So what is everyones Stomps Lore!?

I'm making proxies for my Sons by taking these digital sculpts of humanoid fungus creatures, scaling them up 300%, and 3d-printing them so they're the right scale for Megas and Mancrushers. I'll try to attach pictures.

The lore involves the death of Behemat- when he was eventually killed, he'd been sleeping in Ghyran a long time, Nurgle and the Skaven had been at him, he got smacked by Ghal Maraz... Various types of magic mingling inside a godbeast.

So when he died, some of that magic cocktail somehow imprinted a simple semblance of Gargant consciousness (which is already fairly simple) into Behemat's toe fungus, which as you can imagine is fairly big and angry.

Now, these odd fungal giants roam the land, mutely mimicking the behaviour of gargants. Sometimes they're mistaken for weird Sylvaneth, sometimes folk try to bargain with them like regular Gargants. Nothing works. They sometimes pantomime negotiations, but they don't actually understand what they're doing, because they don't strictly speaking have brains.

My Maggotkin army's witches and sorcerors have figured out how to point one in vaguely the right direction and stop it attacking them very much, but that's as far as anyone's got.

Im guessing the mercenary Mega Gargants are screwed too since they are their own thing and not specifically the dudes mentioned on page 76, 77 and 78? Seems like a potential silly oversight.

No, they're fine. They don't have separate warscrolls to the 'base' mega gargants, it's just 'take this gargant type as a merc, have an extra ability on the house'.

Interesting... They both do have that keyword on the warscrolls available through the free app, true. Nevertheless, non-Disk Gaunt Summoner isn't listed on the StD army list... Unfortunately, I don't own the StD battletome to verify?

As long as it has the keyword, it can be included in the army and be part of the Slaves to Darkness allegiance abilities, regardless of what book it's printed in (or if you've just got the warscroll off the site).

By the same token, the foot Summoner (and anything marked Tzeentch) from the Slaves book can be included under the allegiance abilities in the Tzeentch book, because that allegiance only requires everything to share the Tzeentch keyword.

I'd love to use Knights from the SC! box... but, as I mentioned, I have a problem with the lances. Seriously, if anyone explains to me how do these guys use them in close combat (and they *do* use them, because their warscroll doesn't say anything about a minimun range for them), I'll take them. Right now, I look at them and can't help thinking that they just don't make sense...

Oh, interesting idea! I might look into it...

Thanks for the explanation re: Varanguard.

Gaunt Summoner comes only on Disk in StD??? Noooooooooooooooooooo...!!! I don't like it. But maybe I could use a Disk-less one as an Ally? Would that be legal?

Check the books, but I think both Gaunt Summoners (disc and foot) have keyword Slaves to Darkness, so you can take either without using up Allies allowance- they're just not both in the same book.

Liking the conversion guides in the painting section in the battletome. Simplistic but effective.

    Long live the cow flail!

I think the hobby section of this book is good. The lore is definitely entertaining, and I appreciate the inclusion of name generators etc.

Only thing left to do is figure out the proportion of megas to mancrushers I'd like to run and start finding models appropriately... And to wait for the FAQ.

I can't be the only one hoping that they do errata in the ability to take Endless Spells just to fill up the odd points gap and get a little more variety into a force.

There are a bunch of GHB2020 points changes that you are missing (most in your favor).  Plug your list into warscroll builder to get the updated points.

What do you have available to summon?  If you are building from what you have lying around, I feel that  that will really dictate your hero / battleline choices.  You want to have the right units in reserve for summoning on turns 1 and 2, before anything has died.

You only have one wizard who can cast Darkfire Daemonrift and they aren't that durable.  I would consider that a risk.

I like the inclusion of Nurglings.  They are an interesting scout + tarpit unit with the extra 6+ FNP.  They give you a really annoying way to block off part of the board.

Oh right, Battle scribe wasn't updated. I'm sitting at 1860 now.

In terms of summonable lesser daemons, everything I currently own is in the list (barring the random handful of Horrors from Silver Tower) so I'll need to invest in some more before actually running this.

Nurglings are an old favourite, I'm interested to see what they can bring in this allegiance rather than Maggotkin.

As for the Summoner/daemonrift being risky... Yeah, I can see that. Might be more worthwhile bringing unrestricted Endless Spells in that case.

  7. Hi all, I've thrown together a list with models I currently own (with the exception of the Daemonrift), looking for advice on things to possibly change or add. The intent is to eventually take this to a narrative thing, so I have to avoid named characters, but anything else is fair game.

    + Leader +

    Bloodthirster of Unfettered Fury [270pts]

Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch [240pts]: 1. Bolt of Ruin, 2. Ruinous Aura, General

Poxbringer, Herald of Nurgle [120pts]: 2. Echo of Hatred

Verminlord Corruptor [280pts]: 1. Fourfold Blade, 3. Spirit Gouge

    + Battleline +

    Bloodletters [110pts]: 10 Bloodletters

    Daemonettes [110pts]: 10 Daemonettes, Banner Bearer(s), Hornblower(s)

Plaguebearers [320pts]: 3x 10 Plaguebearers, Icon Bearer, Piper

    + Other +

    Nurglings [200pts]: 2x 3 Nurglings

Plague Drones [200pts]: 3 Plague Drones

    Endless Spell: Darkfire Daemonrift [50pts]

    ++ Total: [1,900pts] ++

Corruptor and a blob of 30 Plaguebearers seem to be solid choices, which is encouraging for stuff I already own. I like the idea of the Gaunt Summoner being the general, I feel like narratively that makes more sense. Still got 100pts spare to tool around with, maybe for Endless Spells, or switching something out- I do also have a GUO knocking around, so that's an option, or one of the Slaanesh leaders for aesthetic reasons... Options abound, really. Thoughts would be welcome.
