I just dont believe Silent People will be Death. To be fair we know basically nothing about them but they just scream Destruction to me, though Setient Roach swarms sounds incredible and if so would definitely be my first Death army.

OBR in January would be out of nowhere, though I also wouldnt be surprised if they did announce this Battlebox this early in advance because of the lack of AOS content at the moment and this far into 3.0 without any hype.

Ogor Summer is something I've heard repeatedly and I truly hope is true. I would love if we get a range refresh but with Rumour that it's just an updated Butcher I'll keep my hype low.

malerion moved to Q1 2023 would be so sad. I hoped that maybe it would be Q3 Q4 2022

  2. At least people will know maybe understand why I hate missed opportunity be it rules or units and their design, or batletomes.

Bad product leads to lower potential popularity and lower playrate and purchases that leads to this kind of bad minimalist updates. The only thing why I am still hopeful for Slaanesh is because it is the major plot point in the lore. They being chained etc. other than that I don't have much hope for Fyreslayers/IDK at the moment...

I know people largely care about competitive lists but I think the Kruel Boyz section is marvellously written really fun and interesting rules that reflect their lore amazingly. I actually think they are the best section of the Orruk Warclans book to be perfectly frank. I do hate their limited battleline options though and think that they need some form of cavalry but those are things that will be fixed over time.

But I feel like these new books are better designed for more casual/for fun players like myself.

I think if you like fun then SBGL book does that much better on every front. Better unlockable battle line from knights to Big Timmy Dragon like monsters etc. I am yet to see gutrippaz swarm build even though that's how they performed battles in the lore. Gutrippaz warscroll in particular is baffling because there is no way that army with main dmg output being MW wound care about +1 to wound over Stikkas with +1 range which is a huge upgrade. (please grandstaves for celestial dracolines back to +2 range too thanks)

It has a lot of potential but I am kinda worried with malerion elves how they will encroach on each other's design space (stealth, poison, cunning approach, popping up around the map seems like a shared flavour so far).

Let's be real, it's going to be one hero each and a new book.

I've already made peace with it, just have to hope it's a book that is more Stormcast / Warclans than Nurgle.

    Bonesplitterz it is.

To be fair SCE book is flawes in many many aspects. Warlord traits are meh. Artefacts are consistent with the trash writing from previous years. Froom 70+ warscrolls you get few playable options and SCE are still below 50% winrate. Extreme polarization. If you go second and manage to 7 inch deepstrike and charge with your hammers and then get the double turn you just coinflipped correctly and killed hundreds of points of the enemy army. Raptor crossbows are insane and such dmg output should not have been in this game etc. Stormcast book isn't really a good book. Orruk warclan book is IJ's solo with some secondary vocals from Kruleboyz and Big waagh. IJ have already been stellar in their design before so the book is building successfully on that but Kruleboyz are mispointed and play nothing like in the lore. Gutrippaz are 180 for 10. Hobgrot slittaz don't have the keywords and are limited. With the amulet nerf we will what happens with their hero hammer. Shame they didn't get swampy salamanders as cavalry option or something to allow them field a different battleline than big yellers boltboyz.

Nurgle isn't really a worse book than SCE or Orruk warclans it just doesn't have units that shouldn't exist like Fulminators/Raptors or Goregruntas/5+ ward cabbage.

All I want for Christmas is non-Soup Dwarfs.

We will find out on Monday.

we probably won't? if the leaks are true you get a duel box with IDK.

Even if you get a new battletome with GW these days you cannot put another soup dwarven codex for 2023 release lol. (Will we see the rumoured third LRL battletome next year? lol)

I can understand not wanting to play with a summoning army (all those extra models to buy and carry around can be quite taxing), but even now summoning potentially is extremely strong mechanic, as it gives you a unique ability to adapt your starting army both to your opponent composition and to the situation on the battlefield. This summoning flexibility is extremely underestimated.

And yet some competitive lists for Hedonites included both Archaon and 30 Blissbarbs. And honestly, even on paper they are quite good right now. They now cost the same as Irondrakes now, and sure, they can't get buffed hard, they have worse to hit and their save is bad, but they are faster, have better range, don't need to stand still to have 2 attacks and they can run and shoot in a roster that is all about dealing damage. Seriously, do you need them to be more cost effective that Irondrakes damage wise while being much more mobile and with much better overwatch?

You mean the competitive lists that haven’t 5-0 any bigger tournament since the battletome release? The army that has one of the worst winrates in the game? The army that will be still most likely relying on Archaon after his change/nerf as the best unit they can have?

You can be wrong, nobody is takong that right from you, but ignoring objective metrics is foolish.

Slaanesh summoning as a mechanic is in a very bad spot. Does it have potential to be broken? Yeah give us 2 KoS for 2 DPs and it is broken. The thin is the me hanic is such an insane tempo loss. If you get doubleturned you basically have a mechanic that doesnt do anything for 2 turns. You have points you cannot spend and have to wait 2 opponents turns to summon them at the end of your movement phase.

170 points for 5-6 wounds at rend 1 18 inch range per turn seems not ideal when you compare it to other shooting units because there are no other rules to layer on top of it. It´s just vanilla attack with no further empower available.

Should they make them cheaper? No! You dont want to have another marauder incident when they will become so cheap so the best way to play the book is to spam them because no other unit in the book is interesting or worth it. I have big problem with them lowering the points in order to compensate for the lack of rules.

I dont want to play 90 point symbaresh twinsouls. Make them 160 but give them adequate rules.

the whole summoning mechanic is currently as it stands bad and it has negative impact on the whole book. Nobody wants to field 200 point liberators because they have some other mechanic in the book that increases their cost. It is a bad feel moment. (Funny that only summoning mechanics apparently warrant point increases across the whole army but something like miracle dice which is one of the strongest mechanic in the game and singe handedly forced the Archaon change doesn’t warrant point increases. Insane to think that strong mechanics cannot be interpreted in points)

To be fait about Blissarbs, they are a unit in a faction that has summons and can use those summons quite effectively at that, both for objective capping and opponent killing. Every unit in their roster costs around 25% more because of that, otherwise it would not be fair.

Have you consider that Blissbarbs are bad at opponent killing and the summon mechanic is not good? How is it balanced for Hedonites to have below 40% winrate?

    1. Blissbarbs do not benefit from exploding 6s they really areńt much of the damaga dealers

    2. Do you think it is balanced that other units for the same point cost will kill your army but with Blissbarbs you will get some points at the end of your turn that you cannot use till your next turn’s end of movement phase?

hedonites are the only new book to have sich a terrible winrate and an army that is bottom 5 in any competitive metric.

Last year they said that they had no data so the meta stay the same.

This year they have tons of data, even wonderful metawatches in their own website and the meta stay the same.

What they want to achieve with such underwhelming changes? What the game have got lowering 10 points to blood warriors? How two armies with 60% winrate can be the same after a "balance update"?

I just can't understand what they want with this.

At least they showed us how a competent writer writes a fun warscroll. Kragnos buffs are huge and extremely fun.

I can already picture some epic late game moments when you move and charge 12+ inches with the bottom bracketed Kragnos in the late game then wipe a monster and get hold of an objective with your counts as  18 models Kragboss. So much fun!!!

maybe if they released him with this warscroll my LGS wouldnt have 7 leftover kragnoses from summer meanwhile they have had 0 Kroaks 0 revenants for months released at the same time earlier this year.

How to Dodge Bullets — Four-Hour Work Week Style

Yeah those Fulminators and longstrikes are kinda surreal but it just shows bad design to have such a high dmg output on a  unit imo. Especially without the amulet they will melt big boys too. (not like they werent able to do 20+ wounds per turn anyway)

At the same time stormcast relics and traits are so bad rn. You don't even feel bad for including Krondys/Karazai as your general so you can battleline dragons.

We can move the talk of wether models or rules make sales for GW to another thread. For the the first time in a few months we have some good AOS news and with that Rumours!!

I fully expect us to get a FEC piper and an Fec guy with a sword. Those second and third latest unsolved mystery rumour engines.

Yeah but I don’t think that stop people from buying star drakes or Bloodthirsters though, because they look cool, even if someone using 6 for a PoG game was well excessive. You may buy models and paint but not nessisary play the game

i don’t think Slaaneshi being a bad army is stoping people from buying that battleforce either. It more like being tie to sex (yeah I know it not all about sex but it unfortunately a label that exist for them) and body horror is not alway a universal appeal to hobbyist

The thing is Skaarbrand is maybe bad but one of the most fun warscrolls.

legion of the first prince uses a Bloodthirster and is currently the highest winrate faction (check today’s neta report by Honest Wargamer by comparison)

When it comes to slaanesh you scrolls are bad and boring. New archer units dont work with explosive sixes allegiance ability etc.

Yes slaanesh has always been the least popular chaos God but with wargaming  being more inclusive I find that a lot of people like Tzeentch/Slaanesh for their transgressive qualities or feminine nature.

My personal opinion is I don’t think miniature rules and point generally affect model sells that much. Hobbyists just buy what every appeals to them and if the model is of good quality and  the game aspect end up being secondary

There is a point at which bad rules mean players wont get into an army. But they have to be Slaanesh bad.

no rules for AoS 1 made many people not get into AoS for years.

Antidotal evidence (and I'm the first to admit antidotal evidence isn't worth the paper it's printed on), a online store held a competition on twitter to win vouchers if you guessed their biggest selling GW item this year. Dominion was the clear winner.

there wasn't anything big for 40k. Lot's of stock limited duel boxes and some kill teams. Meanwhile dominion was unlimited. Also absolutely 0 new space marine releases. (BT but you cannot use those models in other armies)

I would love to see how well did the second LRL wave sell.

  15. 1 hour ago, madmac said:

Yeah, I don't get it either. 40k has had consistent releases with an updating roadmap and only minor, quickly communicated delays this entire year.

40k has a roadmap, Necromunda has a roadmap, Underworlds has a roadmap, it's literally just AoS and Warcry that are still playing the Mystery Game with every release, huge delays with no communication for months beyond "Uh, Covid" and stealth editing old articles time after time.

40k has a leak roadmap heh.  We had a roadmap in 40k last year but then they stopped doing it. Or they announce in mid December that next year sometimes Q1 there will be Tau. If you didn't follow the leaks you could have bought into Tau and their codex just before christmas.

MtG has a roadmap. I can tell you all the main sets next year their names themes dates for the whole year.... GW doesn't get that people will buy anything no matter if they know about it or not nowadays. Their marketing is from the last century when people had it in them not to impulsively buy stuff on credit.  (PS I am an impulsive buyer)

    And?

Every army will get its time in the sun.

None of the WD bandaids have been earthshattering or game breaking and armies that's haven't had the bandaid are more likely to get a new battletome.

I still maintain that rules come and go and only a very small, yet extremely vocal amount of players choose an army because of the rules. The majority will choose an army based on the models, theme and background. Rules are secondary.

SoBs  WD rules quite helped them.

Furthermore you are really presenting no argument when saying that every army will get the time to shine when I presented the real time constraints and multitude factions we are having.  Yes if I live eternally I wouldn't care because I don't live eternally and I am not yet in nirvana I am prone to be annoyed when some armies get new books and are garbage for 3+ years and some great armies get more and more good rules and models, and warscrolls.

    What's wrong with them?

I see perfectly fine thematic rules in line with the other updates from WD.

we have 25+ factions, factions which don't get these rules which are limited by the number of months we have are worse off.
