I'm sure you mean that knights with allies will do some crazy stuff, but that reminds me of something interesting I noticed. S2D units will no longer have marks when taken in other armies. Not a big mechanical deal in general as most of the mono-god stuff is being changed over to work off the book keyword (ex. Disciples of Tzeentch instead of just Tzeentch) but it still feels weird.

Also thinking of some more options for princes, I noticed that Despoilers buffs Monsters with no caveat, so Archaon and Be'lakor both get the buff. 27 wounds on Archaon with a 5+ ward means he has effectively 41 wounds. Not only that, but they can both be healed by 'Radiance of Dark Glory' which is just silly. I was thinking Archaon in despoilers backed up by a couple support princes could be pretty fun but I'm waiting on the cultist and marauder warscrolls before I dive too deep into list building. Those cheap battleline options are going to be a pretty big deal when everything else in the book is so elite.

Archaon is locked to Host of the Everchosen and Be’lakor to Legion of the First Prince based on the keywords. So no go there.

  2. Saw this list through reddit, from the Ogre Cubb Age of Sigmar 2022 (Tournament?).  StD came in second with 4/1/0.  A Ravagers list using two warqueens.  With marks now perhaps they should be more utilized with marauders so something with a small foot print can provide them marks?  I know her ability is win more with the extra charge but could still be useful.

Lumineth tends to be more about precision damage and mortal wounds.  They can't do a lot of damage, but they are going to be great at picking off support hero's.  As long as your opponent isn't going heavy on foxes, the best "hard counter" to lumineth is probably going to be throwing a wall of bodies at them.

Ex. 20 chaos warriors (with runeshields - halberds or hand weapons both work), chaos knights, varanguard, Karkadrak, etc.

    2 example armies:

    Knights of the Empty Throne
    3 Varanguard
    Karkadrak
    20 Chaos Warriors
    5 Knights
    5 Knights

Just give everything the mark of Khorne, and you are throwing an army that has 94 wounds, everything has a 5+ ward vs mortal wounds, and everything is rocking a 3+ or 4+ save.  Give the Karkadrak an arcane tome and flaming weapon and go to town (or the varanguard the grasping plate for 6" pile in).

    Ravagers
    Karkadrak
    Sorcerer Lord
    Sorcerer Lord
    20 Chaos Warriors
    5 Knights
    5 Knights

Give everything the mark of Tzeentch and you can save stack against any rend your opponent brings, and only your sorcerer lords will be weak vs mortal wounds.  Give them both the spell "Mask of Darkness" so you can teleport something around, and give one of your sorcerer lord's "Master of Magic" to reliably get that teleport off.  This army brings 89 wounds to the board and is a bit weaker vs the precision sniping, but again your opponent is going to struggle to get through the wall of iron you throw in their face.  On top of that, this army can bring cultists/marauders in on a board edge to attempt to get into their shooters and tie them up, potentially bringing another 30 wounds to the board.

Do note that slaves to darkness don't really have an answer to a "Fox Spam" build that attempts to block you off with foxes and move out of charge range at the end of the shooting phase.  It is basically a hard counter.  However, against most other lumineth lists, just drowning them in bodies is probably going to be the most effective answer.

This is all great.  I was probably just overthinking and just throwing bodies will do.  He doesn't have any foxes as this is more casual so I will most likely go with the ravagers approach.  Thanks!

  4. What are some good tools against Lumineth?  I'm not facing anything crazy but something like Light of Eltharion, Cathallar, 20 Wardens, 20 Sentinels, 5 riders and 1 ballista.  It's a 1250 +/- 10 point game.

I was thinking despoilers mainly due to extra healing and ward saves built in on the general.  The LoS block will help some on the spells front and Khorne prince should help slow their charge movements down.  I'm thinking having speed is essential but this is about as far as I get with the list before not really knowing what to do with the final 250 points:

    LEADERS

Slaves to Darkness Daemon Prince (210) - General - Command Trait: Radiance of Dark Glory - Sword - Mark of Chaos: Khorne

Chaos Sorcerer Lord on Manticore (270) - Artefact: Arcane Tome - Mark of Chaos: Tzeentch - Spell: Mask of Darkness

    UNITS

5 x Chaos Knights (170) - Ensorcelled Weapons - Mark of Chaos: Khorne

5 x Chaos Knights (170) - Ensorcelled Weapons - Mark of Chaos: Tzeentch

    20 x Chaos Marauders (180) - Axes & Shields - Mark of Chaos: Khorne

    1000/1250

Battlalion would most likely be Battle Regiment for the 1 drop.

Any advice is appreciated as I never played against them.

  5. Those that have used both weapon options for their Khorne prince.  Which just feels better to use?  I know mathematically they're similar but just wanted opinions on it.  I like the idea of high rolling with the sword but the axe is just very consistent with Khorne and getting the charge.

  6. We received some point changes: https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/XTPR7PzBSVcNAAOd.pdf

    We see:

    Chariot -5

    Gorebeast chariot -15

    Ogroid Myrmidon -10

    Fomoroid -10

    Chaos warshrine +30

    Chaos Sorcerer Lord +20

    Archaon +30 and rule changes

Also in core rules FAQ we see amulet of destiny is a ward of 6+ now and heroic recovery can’t be done in melee.

  7. I don't use him but I think that's comparing apples to oranges as they provide different roles.  You want your strongest units to fight twice you go with the Lord.  If you want a big block of iron golems to tarpit or to keep a big block of unmade fighting with the nightmare sickles longer you can use the Ogroid.  It depends on your list and goals and could be useful in Idolators since cultists are battleline.  The price reduction and Mark does make it more attractive too.

I've been using the Warshrine as my general lately with Fiery Orator, for double Favour of Chaos... Along with Daemonic Power from a sorcerer that's all the rerolls all the time!😜

Not gone double prayer enhancement yet. For the regular prayers I normally give heal to the shrine and curse to the chariot (so I can double Favour and curse in the same turn).

EDIT - Although now I've written it out, I think I may have been an inadvertent  massive cheat...
Warshrines in Idolators gain the Leader battlefield role, but not the Hero Keyword.  Booo!

Absolutely illegal but would be insane!

  9. Hey guys,

I'm looking for advice on what prayers you think would be best for an Idolator Lord (Fiery Orator) and Idolator Warshrine with the additional prayer enhancement.   I was thinking of giving the Lord both Heal and Curse since he can double prayer per turn.  The Warshrine would then get Curse and Guidance.  Do you think that would be a good distribution of universal prayers on top of their warscroll ones?  Any suggestions?  The army around them would be typical - 10 Knights, 10 Warriors, 30 Marauders, 2 chariots and plenty of hero Support (CL on Karkadrak, CL on foot, Daemon Prince and Sorcerer).

I suggest dropping the arcane tome from a lore point of view 😆 but it is still a good choice from a power level point of view! I like having a warshrine in an idolator list, but I guess switching a knight unit for a warshrine is against the goal of the army...

Oh I agree on the lore viewpoint! I justify it as the outcome fits the Khorne imagery…. giant flaming axe and I can pretend it’s his hatred that gives him the ability to dispel.

I would have to drop the Karkadrak to fit in the warshrine since it eats up a leader slot leaving the knights without the command ability. The warshrine will definitely be in the 2k list version.

  11. Hey guys, doing a 1000 point game as a test for a cavalry/fast khorne/idolators army.  Any additional tips/suggestions?

Allegiance: Slaves to Darkness - Damned Legion: Idolators -

    Triumphs: Bloodthirsty

Slaves to Darkness Daemon Prince (210)* - Axe - Artefact: Arcane Tome - Mark of Chaos: Khorne - Universal Spell Lore: Flaming Weapon

5 x Chaos Knights (170)** - Ensorcelled Weapons - Mark of Chaos: Khorne

5 x Chaos Knights (170)** - Ensorcelled Weapons - Mark of Chaos: Khorne

    1 x Chaos Chariots (105)* - Greatblades - Mark of Chaos: Khorne

  12. Do you think with the new small unit sizes, a unit of 3 Varanguard with lances would make a good scalpel? Get a charge off and double fight with charge bonus in a key target. At that size they don’t have to worry about the coherency rules until they hit 6+ In size.

  13. I feel like my army idea for Idolators didn't change much and will look like:

    Warlord
    Chaos Warshrine Leader 185
    Chaos Idolator Lord Leader 105
    Chaos Sorcerer Lord Leader 115
    Marauders Troop 270

    Battle Regiment
Chaos Lord on Karkadrak Leader 225
    Chaos Lord Leader 120
    Chaos Warriors Troop 400
    Chaos Knights Troop 170
    Chaos Knights Troop 170
    Chaos Chariot Troop 105
    Chaos Chariot Troop 105

Should amount to 1970 points (5 drop list) with Magnificent and Strategist battalion abilities.

  14. Hi Guys.  I'm trying to focus on a small start point from what I have.  I've been slowly building some warriors/knights and started painting some but need to nail a decent 1k list to build/focus toward now I have a Chaos Warshrine to pick as well.  Here's what I'm thinking for going for before branching to prior 2k lists I've posted:

    Realm: Chamon

General: Idolator Lord on Chaos Chariot - Smite the Unbeliever, Nurgle (Blessings of Nurgle), Plate of Perfect Protection

Leader: Chaos Sorcerer Lord - Nurgle, Binding Damnation

Battleline: 10 Chaos Knights - Nurgle, Ensorcelled Weapons

Battleline: 15 Chaos Warriors - Nurgle, hand weapons/shields

    Behemoth: Chaos Warshrine - Nurgle

    Wounds - 84

    990/1000 points

Given GW's recent trend of having the art closely mimic the miniatures and the frequent use of Bloodreavers when they depict light Chaos infantry is this a sign of new Marauders?

Unfortunately, I'd say these do look like the current old kit so I wouldn't bet on new ones from this; however, fingers crossed as it would be nice.

I did not. League ended there. Still keen to try a 2K Idolator list but havnt had the chance yet 😞

Ah okay, I enjoyed reading those.

I was just thinking of doing a plague touched warband with idolators.  I ended up picking up a warshrine so changed my list from what I shared prior.  I think the chaos lord and sorcerer lord would be left out of the battalion.  I have 90 point left but unsure how to change up the list to close that gap.  I have an additional sorcerer lord and 3 varanguard to work with.  Looking at it more, I should probably swap from Ulgu to Chamon for plate of perfect protection due to Nurgle prayer rerolling wounds.
