  1. Oh man!  Not to sound repetitive but awesome Eldarain.  I totally wish that’s what Teclis/Celenono looked like. Wish it looked more like the poster pose from the kit. And Didn’t the old Elf models come with two figures?  One on the beast/dragon/etc and one separate?  Or am I imagining that? But Bravo dude!

Cheers bud. Will answer as much as I can

1: I really Like the rollers, kinda use them for most of my AOS stuff atm (both my armies are Aelves so works fine)

I just used green stuff, wetting the greenstuff and roller slightly so it wont stick.  To break up the rest of the base (since my DOK are brown bases with Grass and tufts) I went with some AK terrain stuff I won at LVO (https://ak-interactive.com/product/terrains-light-earth-250ml/) and used that. I washed both with Earthshade and then drybrushed with a few colours (finalizing with some tufts from Army Painter)

2: Broken statue I had from my old highelves. They have a good range of stuff from Scribor miniatures. https://www.sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?art=758

3: Lions and shoulders are from the High Elf WFB Lion Chariot kit. I had like 20 Lions kicking around from Chariots which are unusable atm, so made some Scourgerunner chariots and now these guys

4:It was pretty easy, just needed some greenstuff to make the legs a bit wider without looking to odd, and I had to cut some of the shoulders a bit to fit the lion ones. Also a little green stuff for some of the female heads as they dont have necks deep enough

TBH the dawnriders seem fine (not done horses) the main issue is they have some annoying mold lines. However, Wardens are far worse for moldlines lol

I've got quite a few of the GSW rollers also.  Really love them...  look great and so easy.  Do you find green stuff works the best?  I'm in process of mucking about with different materials (Greenstuff, Milliput, mix of both, SuperSculpty, Polymer Clay) to find a good but reasonably priced option.

Thanks for the website!  They have some cool looking stuff!  Wondering if there's anything like that in the US that'd be easier to get....

And now you've got my brain hamster working... lol...  I'm going to do one squad of Dawnriders as designed, but... maybe.. do a mash up like you did.  Although them Lions are like $99 on ebay.,, so prob not them.  BUT. there's the old Space Wolves Fenrisian Wolf Pack??  Not sure if that'll make them no much like Ye Ol' Wood Elves, but they look like they are close to the same base size.  I look at the Wood Elf ( I think) Sister of the Thorn and Wild Riders, and wanna make my Realm Lords be that dynamic/cool...  Or maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit and should wait to see what else is released for us Realm Lords.

    Thanks for the info!

Dude!  This.  is. AWESOME!  I'm gonna pepper you with questions now... and I might be stealing the idea.... :D

I love the use of the Temple roller from GSW (and love them in general!).  It's tempted me several times now.  Did you make the roller texture with Green Stuff?  What else did you use on the bases to break the texture up? And where is the broken statue face from?  I'm very new to the AoS stuff, so where did the lions come from (both the steeds and the shoulders?!)?  How challenging was this conversion/kitbash?  I've not yet made any Dawnriders, but I've heard that they are a pain in the a$$.

But seriously, this is epic.  Congrats!🤘

Are lumineth worth starting as an army. I like elves but I’m stuck between this and deepkin.
I feel like there isn’t much unit choice for them but I may be mistaken. Are they multipart kits?

Well, as I got the ltd starting box during this pandemic, I've not played any games yet.  So I can't speak to it's ease/playability/etc.  But I too have kept my eyes open for the Elves... or Aelves as it were.  Model wise, the Deepkin are very cool, but didn't call out to me.  These Lumineth caught my eye, so I dived in.    I'm new to the GW style of models, so getting used to the whole sprue/mould lines thing was a challenge for me.  In particular, these models are real sweet, and yes, they are multi part.  The Light of E is Amazing (and challenging, I'm doing him in four sub assemblies) , the High Warden and Wardens are cool and a little challenging, but not as much customization options.  I've not built a Dawnrider (calvary) yet, but rumors are that they are the most challenging.  Looking ahead, the other models look great as well.  I am looking forwards to the Archers.  And the Stonemage.  And I do hope that the other sects of Aelves (shadow, wild, wind, zenith, etc) get included soon.   But more models will be released in September, so all will be revealed.

I think many here have said that if you see a set of models that call out to you, start there...

  5. Hey all!  I swear somewhere in this thread, there was a post that shared some fantastic looking scenery with huge plinths, cool columns, bridges.... the company was from England.  LOL, I know, very specific.  But the feel was very AoS...  I'm trying to compile lists of scenic places and can't find them.  IF anyone remembers, can you re-post?

EDIT:  found it.  must have missed it.... sorry. https://darkfantasticmills.worldsecuresystems.com/shop.html#shop-page

I'm still waiting to mask and Airbrush the weapon blades (I have a great holographic paint from greenstuff world) but otherwise, I have nearly completed my first 5 Dawnriders, and 7 Wardens.

I've also attached two pictures to show the holographic paint I'm going to start using for the blades. It has a wonderful colorshift through nearly the whole rainbow spectrum. Very pleased with how it looks so far.

I have actually been experimenting with it over same color metallics too, like Burning gold from Greenstuff world over retributor gold for the special armor, which actually turns out quite well I think. I am doing Celestine azure over leadbelcher, but I am not completely sure that it looks as good for a magical weapon sort of deal.

:o Mind blown....  Burning gold over Retributor?!  That sounds delicious...  Might have to do a test with that combo.  While I'm working on the kitbash, I'm fiddling around with LoE and using LED's on him, as well as trying to think of a good color scheme for my other squad of Wardens.  I want do the Illiatha/Clones, but now I'm tempted by that idea.  lol.  And Cel Azure over Leadbelcher could be really cool.  I'm super curious so share a pic when you get a chance!

    @Wyliekyote

interesting choice for celestial azure on the robes. I am afraid to do metal on non metal, but that looks very good! And it is inspiring me to find time to paint as soon as my current exams are over.

    Kick ass on those exams!

After looking at the Alt paint scheme for Ymetrica, I really liked it, but wanted to experiment with making these Realm Lords more... I dunno.. Magical, realmy, you know, Illuminated Lumineth Lords.

The color shift paints recommend using a black undercoat (which I did with the Cathallar Kitbash posted above), but for the Wardens, I actually used a med dark blue for the undercoat (AP Deep Blue) to keep it more blue, and just make their robes shimmer.

The Celestial Azure does really look great.

I'm planing to use it for the weapons, but it's still on the way ... . For me it was between the Tidecaster and the Mistweaver as the basis to kitbash a Cathallar. Although I really like the Cathaller model and will buy that too once it's out. I just thought it would take too long ... but didn't take the delivery times right now into consideration. I've been waiting for almost a month now 😅

I opted for the Mistweaver in the end, but really looking forward how your's will look like once finished. Will be also my first attempt to kit bash something.

On the Wardens spears, I've tried some Celestial, TurboDork Blue Steel and Scale75 Cobalt Alchemy, along with the usual metallics.  They both added a really nice but very subtle sheen.  So be aware of two things: these paints really like a black (glossy) undercoat, and a bigger area ,to really shine.  But I'd love to see what they look like when you're done!

And the Mistweaver!!  Man, that was the other model I was looking at.  Lol...  So, I should have just gone that direction, since after working on the Tidecaster, I've ordered some scenic elements to give her that "levitation/flying" feel.....  and here they are.  (Do I share to much?!?!  sorry... ). They are all from Reaper Mini's, and are plastic, so hopefully easy to mod, paint, glue. These are all rough ideas on placements.   Four "options". A) small swirl of wind/fire.  B) Medium swirling spell.  C) Tall swirling wind/fire.  D) Epic swirling.   Give me your vote/thoughts/ideas!!  I'm hoping to add in things to the maelstrom:  bodies, heads, crystals.... or any suggestions?!  ;)

My end goal is to use this model for my interpretation of a Zenith Mage (that I fudged together using the Anvil, kinda.   Hopefully something will come out as we explore more of the Tyrion side of the LRL's!). But for now, to use it as a Cathaller stand in.  I would love to get close to the epic feel of the Stonemage...

    Thoughts, comments, ideas welcome!!

  10. Who-hoo more posts!!  And more photos...  Previous posts have mentioned some sort of Kitbash for the Scinari Cathallar.  The model is interesting, but doesn't call out to me.   Which is why I've jumped head first into kit bashing (with no life jacket apparently).  I wish I could find the photos of the inspiration, but it's  based with the Tidecaster model, then eventually I'll add the head of the Sorceress ( I really like the moment/action of her hair and face), and finally the staff of Nomad Prince.  FYI, I've used GSW color shift colors Darth Blue for the inside, and Celestial Azure for the outside.  They are AWESOME!  I'll bother yall more with photos once the other models come in.... :P

You mean something like the below? This is NOT mine, sadly : ). A bit different of course, but it might give you an idea how something like that could look. I took that from the Lumineth Facebook group (by Cinderfall). A lot of people posting pictures over there, so it's great for inspiration. Same is true for Twitter.

Hey all!  Looking into different storage/transport solutions. Can anyone give me the dimensions, esp height, of the Light of E and the Steed Master/Steed Bennerman? Thx!

    Repost/Bump....

Anyone with a built LoE out there measure his height?  And the Dawnrider with Banner and/or Steedmaster?

PS: any idea how big the Mountain Spirits or Teclis will be?

  13. Sorry for the multi posting... having to much fun I guess...

IS there any precedence for a group to shift "allegiances". ie the Aelfs in the Cities {esp the Wood Aelves} say, come over and become a welcomed part of Tyrion's clan?  Since Alarielle has kinda sort of forsaken the Wood Aelves?  Those Shadow Warrios are awesome models and would be a cool part of Tyrion's more "military" based world.  And man, I wish they were allies to the Realm Lords!!!  After all, who else to show them the way of being an Aelf than them right?

There are dragon-like beings shown. But those are different again. We had pictures of them before. They are own the ruler which comes with the box, and also likely on the banner of the Dawnriders, as well as on the breast plates of the Wardens.

The one I mean resembles the Naaru from Warcraft a little bit. But it's just one symbolized picture of a face on a tiny miniature. I don't know if this will actually be the Sun Spirit, it just would make sense because the other pictures shown on the great plates are Celennar, and moon and soon symbols (and those dragons : ) ). But you can't say from the picture how the sculpt would look like. I guess not like a dragon though, but something weird.

This is a bit of a close up of the dragons. On top of the picture is the symbol of the Sun Spirit.

About the Zenith mage: There is a little story of a Zenith mage acting as the ambassador to Malerion in Ulgu. He is captured by Shadow Demons sent by Malerion, but eventually freed by efforts of Syar and himself. He keeps this incident a secret though, to avoid a worsening of relations between the Lumineth and Malerion. They have mentioned Shadow Demons now many times, so it looks like this is what Malerion is producing out of his share of Aelf souls.

Ummm.  Man, I've got to reread this Battle Tome.... totally missed the story of the Zenith Mage.  Maybe that's why I wanted to make a Wizard hero subconsciously. Is this story in the Tome?

on that same topic, does anyone think people will object to using a mistweaver as the Cathallar? I don't know what I'm going to do for modifications, but I always loved that model and I finally got my hands on it.

Ohhhh... that's a cool model... That could also be used for my "wth is this" hero, an ALUMNIA ZENITHMAGE.... kinda using the Warscroll Designer to have fun. I can't wait to see what else come out of the Realm Lords, esp the Tyrion side of the coin.   Dunno why the Warscroll Designer smushes the text, but oh well....

@Rock Lobster damn, I finished with the warden alone, and you have to knock me out of the water with those guys. Damn fine job on those guys,

here is my take on ziatrec with color shifting. Used burning gold over retributor armor for the majority of the armor, nullen oil gloss over the retributor armor for the scale mail, and a mixture of paints over the crest. On the shield I used Toxic Purple  for the shield from chameleon paints, and red / purple contrast for the robes. For his sword I just used colorshift celestial azure, and I dunno if I like it, but it certainly shows that it’s special metals.

Man that looks great!!  I'm hitting the High Dude right now, and it's tempting to use the Celestial Azure on the sword...  I'm using it on all the blue robes so I'll post some pics when [close to] done.

@Wyliekyote good to see someone else doing the color shift paints too! Are you using an airbrush as well?

Yeah... I shouldn't have got them, but why not!?!?! More Paint!!  And now I'm looking ahead to the next squad and wondering what color shift to use with them.  Lol.  Looking at doing them either Zaitrec  for the magic, or Iliathia, cause... clones. :)

No airbrush.  Just thinned them down, and did three coats.  A slow process, but worth it.  Thinking I might do a fourth to kick it up a notch.

  20. Hey ALL!!!

Got a few WIP pics of my Wardens in the Alt scheme for Ymetrica.  I tested out a BUNCH of cool paints, from both TurboDork and Green Stuff World, as shown on the Color Shift Test Spoons photo.  I'll mention that they both say to use Black prime/base coat for get the most out of the color shift effect. And of course I ignored that....

I finally decided that I liked the combo of Army Painter Deep Blue Base with Green Stuff World Celestial Azure.  For me, this combo gives them a real cool "glow" that isn't over the top, but will show up on the table.  I've used a brush, and per their instructions, watered it down and did three thin coats.  Might do more.... not sure that I'll need/want to do any wash/shading, but GSW recommends highlighting with Chosen color [Celestial Azure] mixed with a bit of silver and see what happens.  My plan is to do just the Dark and Light Blue robes, but considering to do the blue headpiece as well.... I tried to get several angles to show off what it looks like.

    Thoughts and comments welcome!

  21. well, I'm neck deep in painting, and will post some pics when I get them close.  I'm using some AwEsOmE color shift paints from Green Stuff World (mentioned earlier I think) and man... they are cool!!!

BUT!  I'm looking ahead to storage and transport.  So a few questions:

    1) What do yall use for storage/transport?  I've checked out some tubs from Costco and Container Store:

    https://www.containerstore.com/s/artbin-double-deep-super-satchel/d?productId=11002706&q=art bin. or

    https://www.containerstore.com/s/craft-hobby/artbin-narrow-super-semi-satchel/1d?productId=11002725

and then putting magnetic tape on the bottom, or on the dividers to make them slide out and easy to get to.  But...

    2) Does anyone know how big these models will be?!?!  I've only got the Spears up, and they are 2" high and hella long...  Any idea about the Calvary, Light, Teclis, Mountains?!?!  These last two look HUGE!?!

    Cheers!
