Largely unfounded hyperbole, but part of me's convinced we'll be seeing a Guilliman sized Sigmar figure for the game's 5th anniversary next summer.  😉

That'll be right around the time that 40k kills/resurrects the emperor and it'll be a Sigmar/emperor dual kit. At least that's what the voices in my head my sources tell me.

    Mixed bag.

My last purchase was made with a selection of models that were discontinued.

Archmage and Dragon Blades are in WHFB with squares

Dragon Noble and White Lion charriot came in white boxes with round bases.

Makes sense I guess. Stuff in WHFB boxes is old stock so they're probably not reopening boxes to add bases, just adding them in for more recent packaging. Either way it's a good move. Shame it took them so long. Once AoS 2.0 hit with measurement from bases being in the rules and bases sizes that while suggested, were obviously the way it was meant to be done, GW's practice of shipping only squares was pretty indefensible and a slimy way to squeeze a few more bucks out of their players.

Do they just ship them in WHFB-branded boxes and like open them up and throw in some round bases in the box?

EDIT: Oops responded too fast @bsharitt haha, thanks for the response

It's probably worth noting that one of my more recent purchases that didn't have the round bases(the Dragon Princes) were still in the old WHFB box. Everything that's had a round base or come with both has been either in new retail packaging or in the plain white boxes/clamshells.

I received rounds and squares in

    • Pistoleers
    • Demigryphs
    • Greatswords
    • General on Griffin
    • Chaos Familiars

The last one no longer even has a warscroll.

Nice, sounds like GW might actually be sending out round bases for everything. Though I think the Chaos Familiars have been on round bases since early AoS.

  5. A rumor I heard and posted on here early this year(or maybe late last year, it was a while ago either way) was that GW was making a concerted effort to replace square bases with round in 2019 and everything would be shipping on rounds by the end of the year. They did it with Skaven, basically redoing all the photos with round bases and shipping round alongside the old square bases, but the old goblin stuff didn't get the same treatment for the Gloomspite release, at least not as advertised on the website. They've updated a lot of the Cities of Sigmar stuff with round bases and also hit other random units like the Gorger, a couple Vampire Lords and bat swarms that I noticed on a quick scroll through the store(US). What I'm wondering about now is unadvertised packing of round bases. In the past 6ish months, I've only gotten 3 kits that still appear to be sold with square bases, Chimera(at the time), Tomb Banshee, and Scuttleboss on Giant Spider. The Chimera only came with its rectangle base(but maybe the warcry variant was already in the pipeline so they didn't bother with it?), the scuttleboss came with both round and square, and the Tomb Banshee came with not only a round base, but updated retail packaging.

So has any one else bought any "square base only" models from GW recently with a surprise round base in the box? Have they finally fixed their base problem?

EDIT: I also got some Dragon Princes that only came with their rectangle bases, but I guess we know why they weren't updated

Don‘t get me wrong, those models are great and would have been amazing for the old world orcs n Goblins but I don‘t get the AoS feel from them since they‘re just a „remake“ of the old wolfriders which is unusual and this could be a „first“ for AoS (just adding a freshly for AoS remade unit which was exactly the same back in 8th).

I like that the new ones looks basically like the old goblins on Fenrisian wolves.

From what I gather most are some poor person sitting there putting the model digitally on the round base instead of taking a new photo - which is why many still have square bases when you scroll through the photos.

They just haven't replaced all the pictures. On most of them, it's pretty clear that the round based models are new paint jobs compared to the square based ones..

A lot of players are hoping for this (i.e. AoS rules and basing, with Old World characters, lore and aesthetics).

It will all come down to how well the community takes up pointed Legends, as with no community/opponents there is obviously no game.

There is still a significant following for classic Dwarfs, Elves, Humans, Vampires, TK (etc.), so I'm hopeful

There's still a few people around here that have armies much more built for the old world that I might be able to convince to play some Warhammer Legends games. And of course even if I don't get frequent battle in against other old world armies, the points will make them playable against regular AoS armies in even a casual pick up game.

  9. In a slightly different direction, I'm really hoping for a full Dwarfs release for Wawrhammer Legends when they come out with points. I've got a lot of old Dwarf stuff that I'm repainting and refurbishing and was looking forward to using it as the core of a CoS army, but a lot of that looks gutted from that army and there's already the old compendium only stuff that's in a somewhat broken(not the good kind) state(looking at you anvil of doom). I'd love to have that full army with the character names restored back into a working army.

It's interesting to note that he can only be in an Order allegiance at the moment, since he's too expensive to use as an ally, and does not have that many keywords.

But yes. This is quite the hero. I like it.

It's right there at the bottom in his pitched battle profile. He can be taken as an ally by any Order allegiance and can go over the max allied points, but he's you're only ally if you take him.

Its a personal guess of mine for a while that GW would rotate the season 1 generic cards out of 'standard' when season 3 hit.

I was grudgingly becoming okay with the X-Wing model where you need to buy warbands you don't want in order to get all the cards you want(though I like most of the models well enough alternate AoS models, it was no big deal) as long as they would stay in play the same as X-Wing. But if they're also going to combine the Magic/Heroclix/CCG thing of rotating out sets, I'm probably going to be out of WHU. Might pick up the stand alone releases for models I like, but not more core sets or packs with the cards, which means I'll probably be more picky about which of those I pick up since there won't be cards to push me over the edge of buy models I'm not entirely crazy about.

List of confirmed "safe" Cities of Sigmar kits from the Open Day article and photos:

    • General/Battlemage on Griffon
    • Freeguild Guard
    • Freeguild Handgunners/Crossbowmen
    • Demigryph Knights
    • Pistoliers/Outriders
    • Steam Tank
    • Lumminark/Hurricanum (components used as scenery)
    • Cogsmith
    • Ironbreakers/Irondrakes
    • Nomad Prince
    • Wild Riders/Sisters of the Thorn
    • Eternal Guard/Wildwood Rangers

Those are all probably safe, but the poisoned wind mortar team in the pictured in my Skaven battletome is telling me not to count on photos or any thing else until I have the book in my hand and see warscrolls and pitchbattle profiles for myself.

Nope, not how sprues work, this is a conversion  of the Spire of Dawn Swordmaster (Great looking one btw)

That being said, it's not far out of the realm of possibility so that some of the kits being kept for CoS will got from duel -> tri kits of single -> dual. I mean using the heads from one half of a dual kit with the weapon options of the other is an easy way to get a third option. There was a rumor, that while combined with far fetched rumors isn't so far fetched itself, that one of the Disspossed kits was getting a third option(longbears/hammerers?).

Lord of the Rings do not have GW's heroic scale, so they will be ok height but have super wonky proportions. Pretty sure this was a part of their contract for the license. Doubt the new dudes are any different, as they fit with the rest.

Back before Stormcasts had wizards, I used to run Gandalf as a Battlemage, but since the Stormcasts were already so large, he didn't look out too of place. On the subject of Battlemages, the 4 pack box of wizards is now gone from at least the US and UK store. I don't think they were in the "last chance to buy but already out of stock" taunting so maybe they're not gone for good. They just got re-boxed recently, so maybe they're getting a box with updated allegiance branding.

  15. Hopefully these guys are allies to Legions of Nagash. So far I'm not liking it enough to do a whole army, but I'd bring along that cavalry and and a catapult.

Point for Legends are nice. Hopefully Dwarfs get the full compendium treatment soon with so many kits going away. I'd love to bring out the whole classic Dwarf army beyond even what was recently Disppossed and Ironweld. Sure it likely won't be tournament legal, but it'll be nice to have something between that and no points so it'll be easy for a casual pick up game.

Are you talking about a big announcement beside the two Battletomes and the new death faction?

Yeah, I meant the new faction tomorrow being the big announcement, then Cities and Orcs get reelased, then the new faction actually comes out later.

Am I the only one finding it strange that we are getting the full reveal for Tithe before Orruk Warclans and Cities of Sigmar? I thought for sure those would be a quick drop.

There's probably two completely different release cycles at play here. What ever army this Tithe thing is going to be a lot of new models(possibly entirely new) while CoS and Orcs are just books, with possible terrain and spells that wouldn't overlap with the Tithe work since I think those are still being done by a separate terrain modeling team and of course manufactured in China as terrain. Also I wouldn't be surprised if we see a big announcment, but the stuff doesn't drop for a little bit and CoS and Orcs slip as an off week release(like the paired rapid fire codex releases 40k got when 8th came out).

Planning on rebasing some more of my Marauder Longbeards at the weekend. You know GW are looking out for the grogs

    😁

I think my long beards may be next on the painting table. It's. shame my Maurader organ gun won't have a place. Though if I can freely add in Stormcasts too, maybe it can be a counts as celestar ballista.

  19. Oddly my newer plastic Elves and Dwarves are squatted in the new book, so these old guys will be one of the first units of my Cities of Sigmar army. I'm also hoping there's a "working" mixed army and I can put these guys along side the old Empire stuff for a fairly uniform look.

  20. Interesting that Warhammer Legends is on there along side actual "product lines". I don't recall them actually taking time to really announce new stuff moving to legends other than a Warhammer Community post around the time a new battletome that drops old units comes out. Probably going to have the Empire, Dwarfs, Wood Elves and High Elves going to legends, but maybe they'll finally give us a clean cut off of what's going to Legends and what should be safe to buy in the near future and fully do the rest of the legends armies, especially Ogres and Slaves to Darkness since they're the last factions that haven't gotten a full AoS treatment. I was finally going to buy some maneaters because I assumed that being in the GHB with the new mercenary rules made them safe(I'd stopped buying all non-battletome models, unless I plan to use them for other games) but the removal of Dwarf cannons kind of kills that theory. Points for Legends are probably too much to hope for, but battalions and spells lores and faction special rules would be neat, just something small the the GHB allegiance abilities would be neat.

I can see them re-using a lot of the Death Rattle models - with the exception of the small group of skeletons. The Wight on horse might also get removed/replaced.

Guard and deathhorses will likely remain, but could be superseded.

As for internal strife, I figure we could easily see that happen one day for Death, however it will take a major story event to knock Nagash down a few dozen pegs.

If they ever flesh out Soulblight, they have either Mannfred or Neferata(or both) asserting themselves more solidifying their own power bases while Nagash is busy fighting Sigmar and friends.
