Indeed, I kinda wish they were similar to Gloomspite, where instead of being combined with Troggs and Spiders, the Deepkin instead have like giant crabs, or Fishmen as allied subfactions

I think my biggest issue with Deepkin is that they too much in the middle between elf and fish. They're not elfy enough for me to want them as a true elf army, but they're not fishy enough to really interest me a a cool underwater army. I wish GW would have leaned heavier in one direction or the other(preferably fishy).

A bit off-topic but damn, the new Chaos Warriors are still shorter than Blood Warriors or Stormcast. :(

Some of their details seem to be tiny - either they can print even smaller now or they scaled them down to fit in with the old Warriors - which would suggest no new kit. And there's my rumour theory! :)

I don't think Chaos warriors needed to be bigger, and certainly not as big as Stormcasts since they're just normal humans who happen to fight for Chaos. So this isn't a situation like the new Chaos Space marines being bigger where that was just a correction of their scale(why they couldn't just do that for regular space marines instead of going the Primaris route is a discussion for another board).

Points updates are new for the Winter FAQ normally its just rules. This is new shift for GW. Depending on what they do this could be bigger than the GHB. Though GW has been going the light touch route for the last few updates.

Edit: Its a new shift but they've said for awhile they would look at points, at least for factions released before the GHB but not covered in it or the GHB FAQ (aka Fyreslayers and Slaanesh). So the only surprise is the other armies getting adjusted.

The 2019 version of the GHB and Chapter Approved both had points in separate booklets. While the points changes were still bundled, it's still a measure of separation and I wonder if we could see that continue to the point where the GHB and Chapter approved aren't even tied to point changes any more.

Alas not. I wondered briefly whether I could make a cool Kharadron Conversion out of it, but I think its just too distinctly 40K. I think I speak for all classic Dispossessed/ Dwarf players when I say can we please just have more proper dwarves! A non gimmicky Grombrindal would be a delight.

I don't know, I think you could get him look non-mechanicus enough to work as a Khardon Overlord. I just hate when the do this in store only non-sense. Especially if it's like the store anniversary models where they run out quickly and one trip to the store is wasted to just put in an order for in then you have to come back to pick it up later. I'm not sure that 3-4 hours of driving(depending on traffic) is worth one model.

There’s a job opening on the Warhammer jobs site at the moment for a digital illustrator that seems to imply that the Old World game is part of the Forge World/Specialist Games umbrella.

That seems about right. Hopefully people who were worried that being a specialist game means new models will be an all resin expensive line up like Horus Heresy, will look at the full list of games an notice that the rest of them are mostly done in plastic.

rules were, and remain, the last priority of product design for GW. And AoS was made in the era where GW was deaf, dumb, and blind and insisted that their game lines were just a side thing and the hobby was all about collectors. Kirby was a bad CEO.

Almost want to give them credit since they did put their money where the mouth is with regards to the whole "we're a hobby company not a games company" thing, even though it didn't work out and they've been swinging back towards "game company" ever since.

Not played LOTR in many years, so no idea how much the rules have changed but other then Blood Bowl the original era rules were my favourite ever by GW, fantastic game and if I still had my old armies I would play it now.

I might end up re collecting some tolkien armies though since my interest in getting involved in AoS is kind of dead since they announced the return of the Old World in the years to come.

Some how in this brave new Age of Streamline the core rules in the new edition of MESBG have remained relatively intact. I hope the new edition of Bloodbowl coming out next year is a fortunate.

I think people might be surprised at how popular LotR is... especially among collectors.

I know I wanted to get into LotR back around 2012 or when ever the hobbit stuff started coming out, and talked to one of the guys at my local shop and he said he'd never actually seen the game played there. They sold a decent amount of the stuff, but as far as he was aware, none of them really played it and just collected the models. It's a shame, but cause years later when I did finally find people who were into the game and got into it, it turns out that it's probably my favorite GW rule set.

  9. I think I've figured out the real reason GW is bringing back the Old World. Paints. Look at how many of these old paints are named after WHFB stuff. They wanted to make sure their paint names were aligned with current IP, but there are just too many to rename and would have thrown the entire hobby into disarray and invalidated all their painting guides and tutorials in print and on YouTube. So in the end, it was easier to just bring back the game where many of those paints get their names.

I don’t see GW or Forgeworld releasing redesigned units from existing mode kits and well  supported AoS armies. Maybe some special characters, command units or signature units.

the only full releases I think we’ll see will be Tomb Kings, Bretonnia, and Lizardmen and they might even just be re-releases of the old line.

Based on nothing but speculation of course.

It's a three year wait, so there's got to be some kind of new models, probably an entire army(or more than one) basically getting the Sister's Battle treatment and getting completely redone. Other that I expect it to look a lot like the relaunch of Lord of the Rings where some old kits are brought back in to production, new sculpts for heroes and characters (the ones that aren't in a wholly redone army) and a healthy dose of made to order.

Either way, I'm not super worried about new models since I've got a Dwarf army of mostly circa-3rd and 4th edition models that I need to get repainted.

Interestingly the nighthaunt has a mortis engine included which isn't in the armylist.

Maybe we'll finally see the rest of Death get filled out with books and new models and Legions of Nagash gets deconstructed and the Mortis engine will fall into Nighthaunt.

I don't envision GW firing up production of those plastic kits again.  Who knows what this means for Tomb Kings / Brettonians.

I'm guessing it'll end up similar to how they've done MESBG at this point. With an at time messy rotation of models coming back and disappearing, though they did say something recently on the lines of they're going fix that mess for MESBG and have a more fixed line. So maybe it won't be that bad. There may be some models come back, probably a few waves of made to order too.

  13. Even though I'm totally stoked for a return of WHFB, I do have to say that of all the guesses in the 24 hours between the first tease and the announcement, I really liked the theory of an AoS version of Epic set in the Age of Myth but instead of getting reasonably sized Titans, we'd be getting god beasts instead(leaving room for toddler size models for regular AoS from FW in the future).

Is it possible that it is also they intend to have a whole swath of novels to cover this period of Old World history.

I wonder if all the Warhammer Chronicles and Omnibuses they've been releasing lately have been selling well and that played a part in the decision to do this. It seems like this might be a perfect storm of rank-n-flank games like KoW, ASOIAF, etc doing well and the old lore gaining a whole new audience thanks to TotalWarhammer(which I sure is driving sales of those Warhammer Chronicles books to a decent degree) and GW is going to try to capitalize.

Did they specifically said new year? I just remember them mentioning it after Cities of Sigmar and later this year.

What’s more, in the near future, we’ll be giving all Warhammer Age of Sigmar Legends the same treatment, meaning they too will be getting matched play points for your battles. You’ll see these rolled out in the new year.

That's for points. I'm just speculating that Empire, Dwarfs, and High Elves are waiting until then too.

So this is the end of Warhammer Legends right? Why we haven't heard a peep about it since Cities of Sigmar was announced.

They did say that points for Legends would be rolled out in the new year, so I'd assume any Empire, Dwarfs or High Elf Legends would wait until then as well.

  17. If this does end up being more of a specialist game, meaning they can make it a bit more complex, I wonder of they're going to treat it how many historical games cover large periods of history, but some units are only available to armies of specific time period(i.e. late roman armies vs early or mid might have a different unit selection with some shared) and designed to have armies of certain time periods fight. Obviously it's GW, so there'd be some kind of open play for so anybody can fight any body, but I'd love to see it approached as a historical with lots of campaign books.

  18. I'm excited to see how this goes. Since it's going to well after the end of 8th, it's probably going to be a fresh start(I think 6th was the last more or less clean slate that didn't bring forward old army books?). I'm guessing it'll be a bit more streamlined in the way that Kings of War and ASOIAF are. But is sounds like it might also be a specialist games, so maybe it'll retain some crunch like MESBG has rather than being too dumbed down for mass market.
