    How'd it go?!

I had a really rough weekend with really close matches that didn’t go my way. LoA is of course a swing army with alot of upsides (and downsides) depending on a few dicerolls. We knew that and it is what it is. But I did scramble a lot of points even in defeat. And the team finish in 3rd place which is very good I think.

Here is a picture of my magma cannons on 105x70mm from a game yesterday. I think they look good on that base size. I would prefer 105mm but I could go either way.

  3. So we have our own base gate. Let's try to fix this. I am going to wait until the next FAQ to change anything since I think some of these base sizes will change when they try themselves to but the model on the suggested base size.

But in the meanwhile, what are the correct base sizes, should we try to agree on a list. I am sure they read this thread.

Let's start, this is my suggested base sizes:

    Bull Centaur Renders 90 x 52mm

    Bull Centaur Taur’ruk 90 x 52mm

    Daemonsmith 25mm

    Deathshrieker Rocket Launcher 105 x 70mm

    Drazhoath the Ashen 120 x 92mm

    Dreadquake Mortar 170 x 105mm

Infernal Guard Battle Standard Bearer 25mm

    Infernal Guard Castellan 25mm

    Infernal Guard Fireglaives 25mm

    Infernal Guard Ironsworn 25mm

    Iron Daemon War Engine 120 x 92mm

    K’Daai Fireborn 50mm

    Magma Cannon 105 x 70mm

    Shar’tor the Executioner 105 x 70mm

    Skullcracker War Engine 170 x 105mm

Do you agree? I could see that some would like to put the small heroes on 32mm and that would also be ok with me.

  4. It’s much bigger than a iron daemon and that is a tight fit on 120x92 IMO. It will look like 1/3 of the scullcracker is crashing off the base. If someone have a picture it would be fun to see how it looks.

Edit: A picture of Ben’s scullcracker

    Hey Guys!

I have a small tournament coming up this weekend and I'll be bringing my Chaos Dwarves for the first time!  Here's the list I'm looking at running.  The only other possibility I was thinking was taking out the Iron Daemon Engine, increasing the Ironsworn to 30, putting in an extra Daemonsmith, and a couple  endless spells.  What do you guys think?

     List

I think your list is good. I have played a similar list in two tournaments with good results, 3/56 and 10/38. I would maybe skip one daemonsmith and increase the infernal guard to 30 and get an endless spell. I would keep the train. I would also prefer a minus 1 to hit artifact on the general. Minus 2 to hit is too good to ignore IMO.

  6. Fireglaves in units of 10 seems better to me. I think ironsworn works better in larger units (if you use them to grabb objectives or as a screen).

Has anyone had any success with the warhost. It seems to me very expensive with a lot of tax units (castellant, bsb, second ironsworn unit) for little gain. But I havn't tried it.

My big question is, are 3 Magma Cannons required to be competitive or can we be workable with other options and still stay dangerous?

You can run a list with 2 magma (or 0) and still be competitative, no problem.

From the models you have you could try this list:

    Draz

Tauruk - general - grotesk - gryph feather charm

    daemonsmith

    30 ironsworn

    2x10 fireglaves

    6 Kadaii

    Iron daemon

    Skullcracker

    2 Magma

    Maybe gemenids.

  8. I just come back from a tournament in Sweden with 60 players and pretty much the best players in Sweden attending. I came third with this list. 🙂

    Bull Centaur Taur'ruk (160)

    - General

    - Trait: Grotesque

    - Artefact: Miasmatic Blade

    Bull Centaur Taur'ruk (160)

    - Artefact: Doppelganger Cloak

    Daemonsmith (100)

    20 x Infernal Guard Ironsworn (180)

    10 x Infernal Guard Fireglaives (100)

    10 x Infernal Guard Fireglaives (100)

    6 x K'Daai Fireborn (280)

    Skullcracker War Engine (200)

    Iron Daemon War Engine (180)

    Magma Cannon (140)

    Magma Cannon (140)

    Magma Cannon (140)

    Hashut's Wrath Artillery Train (120)

I played a Nagash list, a Gavriel Sureheart SCE list, a shadowstrike & summoning Seraphon list, a Nighthaunt list with 60 reapers and a Phoenix Temple list. I lost against Nighhaunt who later won the tournament. We played the GW secondary objectives where we had to choose 2 new objectives for every game. I completed all of them so I ended up with 4 major wins and 10 secondary objectives.

Any other necessities you all are thinking of that would be good to start off with?

My recommendation would be to get a Tauruk. He is a strong choice to be your general. He hits hard and you can make him -2 to hit.

Other that that, if you can get hold of a skullcracker you want it in your list. Also 6 Kadai fireborns are a great unit.

And I am not a fan of 40 Ironsworns. I havn’t tried the warhost so maybe it works there, but to me it feels to slow.

  10. I took legion of azgorh to a tournament this weekend. It was a quite competitive tournament with 40 players.

    I played this list:

    Allegiance: Legion of Azgorh

    Mortal Realm: Ghur

    Bull Centaur Taur'ruk (160)

    - General

    - Trait: Grotesque

    - Artefact: Gryph-feather Charm

    Bull Centaur Taur'ruk (160)

    - Artefact: Armour of Bazherak the Cruel

    Daemonsmith (100)

    20 x Infernal Guard Ironsworn (180)

    10 x Infernal Guard Fireglaives (100)

    10 x Infernal Guard Fireglaives (100)

    6 x K'Daai Fireborn (280)

    Skullcracker War Engine (200)

    Iron Daemon War Engine (180)

    Magma Cannon (140)

    Magma Cannon (140)

    Magma Cannon (140)

    Hashut's Wrath Artillery Train (120)

A very short recap: I won 3 games and lost 2. I lost aganst a full on clan skyre gautfyre list on turn one and a really strong mixed order list in a very close game and I won against beasts of chaos, Ironjaws and pestilence.

no, it just has the option of 1 in evry X models can be considered a deathmask but not compulsory.

I agree, deathmasks and other unit leaders are not compulsory, it's an option (that most people take for other units). I just wanted to write it in a way that maybe leads people to the same conclusion without ending up in a discussion that I don't realy care that much for. I don't run deathmasks but that is mainly beacuse i don't have the model and i don't think the model fit with a unit of fireglaves. I don't run a drummer or icon bearer either for the same reason. My Ironswarn on the other hand has a full command group.

I think we are stuck with him... it says "the leader is called a xxxx" rather than how the standard and musician are worded as optional.... didn't flag that until now

It all depends if there is a rule somewhere that states that a unit must have a leader. We all agree that the leader must be a deathmask with a crappy pistol

Great job in the battles and that is a lovely looking photo.

Nagash is terrifying! But that artillery train moreso!

Got any other pics of your army/ the battles?

I don't have that many pictures but I will take more at the next tournament.

But this is against  240! rats. Before and after. :P I think it is at the end of turn 2.

Hm, 6 K'daai sure can do some damage, but they aren't as fast, lack rend to punch through some armor (although they have a TON of attacks), and yes, Drazhoath is a Wizard with a nice d6 mortal wound unique spell.  If you ever happen to play games with realm rules/spells, he can really exploit some of the defensive/offensive buffing spells that a smaller wizard on foot would use.

Great job though, and I like your paint scheme.   Keep us updated on how your tournament goes!  I still have to get used to the new rules/meta, but I know we can compete just as well as we could last year, if not better.

Yes I have to try him also. But I think that the Kdaai is quite fast. I don't have that many option to use my command points so I could easily use one point turn 1 to run the kdaai 6" and also maybe use the other command point to reroll the charge if necessary. It should be enough speed for a consistant first turn threath I think since the distance is often 18" in the new scenarios. I have to try it in practice.

  15. 6 minutes ago, Black_Fortress_Immortal said:

Good job.  Hm, any reason in particular that you don't take Drazhoath?  He fills that "mobility" gap you have in your list that you want to fill with K'daai.

The first reason is that I have him built but not painted.

But other than that. Since I have two artifacts I really want to run two Tauruks to make most use of the artifacts in the new scenarios. So if I also run Draz I would have to drop the 6 kadaii but then I need to drop 40 pt more so I have to change 20 ironswron for 10 fireglaves.

So it comes down to if I think 6 kadaii and 10 dudes are better than draz. Hmm they hit harder, they can take more damage, I get an extra screen, they are both fast, draz is a wizard. I think the kadaii is the better choice but I am not sure, I have to test both.

If I on the other hand drop the formation, then I need to drop one Tauruk, (a Tauruk without an artifact seems pointless), they I get some points over for draz and I can also run some kadaii, like your list above. That could be an alternative. I think both are ok. What you loose is the range on the magmas, the lower number of drops due to the formation, and some CC power (3 kadaii and a tauruk  > draz) in exchange for a fast flying wizard.

  16. It's in scorched earth where you can only burn from turn 2 but I hope they change better part of valour also.

MVP were the magma cannons of course, but also the skullcracker. I had some insane rolls with the skullcracker's random attacks and he really cracked some skulls.

The tauruks are really good value and really hard to kill with my artifacts.

The Bull Centaurs are a bit too slow for what I want them to do so therefore I will change them (and 10 fireglaives) for 6 K'Daai and give that a try. I would like to be able to threathen objectives first turn so the opponent takes first turn and I might be able to shoot twice or at least not lose a double turn. That is also the main reason I take the formation (in addition to the artifact). To have 24"+10" threath range on my magmas and scare the opponent to go first.

In two weeks time I am going to a two day tournament with 30-40 players. I will bring the LoA so it will be interesting to see how they perform.

  17. I played a 3-game tournament (20 players) with the Legion this weekend.

It was only my secound to forth game with LoA but I think they worked really good.

    I played this list:

    Allegiance: Legion of Azgorh
    Mortal Realm: Ghur
    Bull Centaur Taur'ruk (160)
    - General
    - Trait: Grotesque
    - Artefact: Gryph-feather Charm
    Bull Centaur Taur'ruk (160)
    - Artefact: Armour of Bazherak the Cruel
    Daemonsmith (100)
    20 x Infernal Guard Ironsworn (180)
    10 x Infernal Guard Fireglaives (100)
    10 x Infernal Guard Fireglaives (100)
    10 x Infernal Guard Fireglaives (100)
    3 x Bull Centaur Renders (180)
    Skullcracker War Engine (200)
    Iron Daemon War Engine (180)
    Magma Cannon (140)
    Magma Cannon (140)
    Magma Cannon (140)
    Hashut's Wrath Artillery Train (120)
    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 1

I lost my first game against nighthaunt in Better part of valour. He out droped me and deep striked his whole army and had more models than me so he managed to burn two of my objectives before I had my first turn.  It was a difficulty matchup for me on just that mission, I am not sure if there was anything I could have done to avoid him burning my objectives turn 1, other than him failing some of this charges.

The second game was against Nagash, 80 skellies, 30 graveguards and 2 necromancer. We played total commitment. I ignored Nagash and killed most of his other stuff a few times over and won the game.

The last game was against a pestilence army with 240! plague monks and three plague furnances. We played the relocation orb mission. I thought that I couldn't really win this match up. How do you kill all these rats when they swarm the table and the orb. But actually in the end I managed to kill maybe 200 rats and won the game. My general was holding the frontline almost by himself (he was -2 to hit in CC) while I shoot his rats to pieces.

My list was just what I had painted but for my next tournament I think I will drop 10 fireglaves and the bull centaurs render and take 6 K'Daai Fireborn. To get a bit more CC power and some more speed. Otherwise I think the list is very stong  (for a LoA-list).

    Hey everyone,

How do you all model the fireglaive/ironsworn unit leaders? As far as I can tell the only model that comes with a pistol is the castellan; do Forgeworld expect us to buy a command set per unit? The Blackshard Warhost only comes with one command set on the webstore and the unit kits don't seem to come with a leader/drummer/banner.

Skip the unit leader. I haven't read anywhere that a unit needs a unit leader. Have anyone else seen such rule?

(But if a unit of  fireglaives has a leader he is a fireglaive deathmask as per the warscroll rules.... ?).

  19. I am working on a tournament list, what do you guys think of this one.

    1    Bull Centaur Taur'uk, General, Grotesque, Gryph-feather Charm    160
1    Bull Centaur Taur'uk, Armour of Bazherak the Cruel    160
    1    Daemonsmith    100
    30    Infernal Guard Ironsworn    240
    10    Infernal Guard Fireglaives    100
    10    Infernal Guard Fireglaives    100
    10    Infernal Guard Fireglaives    100
    1    Magma Cannon    140
    1    Magma Cannon    140
    1    Magma Cannon    140
    1    Magma Cannon    140
    1    Iron Daemon    180
    1    Iron Daemon    180
    -    Artillery Train    120

I get minus 2 to hit my general and I have 5+ ward save  on the other Tauruk and hopfully they will be ok in the missions where you need heroes with artifacts of power to cap objectives.

I am thinking of using the trains and the formation to push two magma cannons so they have 34* threat range to snipe important heroes like bloodsecrators etc.. if the opponent gives me the first turn.

I like fireglaves but I think I need 30 Ironsworn to screen the army or push them up the middle in some missions.

The third and fourth magma cannon I am not completly sure on. Maybe just one of them and 3 fireborn are better. It maybe skip both and get another Daemonsmitt and 3 Bull Centaurs. Sould I go full on gunline or do you think I need some small combat unit to push up a flank and threathen objectives (or are my two trains enough for this purpose).

What do you guys think? How would you improve the list? Do you think it will work?

There seems to be an ongoing controversy in one of the FB Fyreslayer groups about the Lords of the Lodge battalion and the seizing initiative rules. Following the rules as written, the Warscroll Battalion lets you modify a rolloff result, which is normally prohibited, but because current warscrolls take priority over core rules. Is there some sort of official ruling on this? Or does the battalion no longer function?

I think GW made a mistake with the warscroll rule precedence. Why write universal rules like you can never reroll a reroll, change the initiativ roll, generate attacks from generated attacks etc... it is pointless. These rules have no meaning since they can be changed and are not universal...... But RAI they do have meaning so they vill have to run around and chase there own tail when writing rules going forward.

....so my opinion regarding LotL is just dont do it. ? But that's me.

Congratulation to you Andreas and team Sweden! Great work.

Can you tell more about your games?

First game was againts Slaanesh on focal points. I though pre game that this was a very good match up. I basically said give me slaanesh and I buy you all a beer if I loose. My though was that he will hit me hard but I can take it and then he will melt. I took first turn and droped my reserves on the middle objective and told him to come at me, which he did. And after rolling hundreds of attacks and pile in twice I was pretty shaky. But I survived and when I hit back (with my shooting) ge melted away and I won the game. But I have to say his army was one of the coolest I have seen with all old metall slaanesh models, the cool ones.

The second game was againt Wales and Nagash on better part of valour. It was three types of armies I did not want to play, Nagash, Stardrakes and Dreadwoods mostly because I cant hurt them. So playing Nagash I toke one for the team, no one else wanted to play him. Anyway the opponent didnt play his best game here I think. He placed Nagash a bit to much forward so I could tunnel and kill him with my Aurics. I won that one.

The next game was againt a list I didn't want to play on a scenario I absolutly didn't want to play. Les Martins Stardrake list on total commitment where I can not tunnel. I felt that there was no way to win this and I played for a minor loss which I didn't get. We talk afterwards and maybe I could actualy have had a chance winning the game if I had played more aggressive. Next time. ?

The next game was againt Nagash again. If you notice that I only get matchup I dont want it is because this was a list that we wanted to use to take matchups that other teammates didn't want to play since you can give most lists a game with fyreslayers while other lists we had were more matchup dependant. The scenario was focal points and I took the middle objective again wanting him to come at me. He did and the problem here was that when I fought back all my units had minus 3 to hit, minus one attacks and minus one damage...it was hard to do anything. ? Dread, Fading vigour, neferata and gemenids. But he still had to get me off the objectives so it was a fight but in the end he did and won.

Last game was againts a DoK army on better part of valour. This one is a bit harder to explain but in the end it came down to a turn roll that if I won I would have taken one objective from him and burned the one he threatened and vice versa and he got the roll and won. I didn't know pre game if DoK was a good or bad matchup, I hadnt played them. But now I can say it is probably a bad matchup. This game was close but I think he didn't really have the best possible list either.

All in all 5 great games against 5 great opponents. ?

And fyreslayers could hold there own in (most of) the games I played even if I in the end only won 2 of them.

  22. I had a much tougher second day at 6 Nation, playing Nagash (again) and DoK. Both where close games with the last one probably came down to a turn roll. But both opponents played really good so it is what it is. I lost these ones.

But team Sweden played really good today so we came second overall only 20pt after England.
