Warpseer point increase is negated by the Battalion decrease in my 2k Skryre list 🤗

Somewhat of a correction for Stormvermin too. Is 450 for 40 still too much?

    Also no mention of Gnawholes...?

The first GHB FAQ resolved setting up Gnawholes, they removed the requirement to be 6” away from the edge, now it’s only not within 3” of an objective or 1” of other terrain.

Well a heavy skryre list backed up with some magic and verminus battleline, is basically fantastic against any army especially if you want to destroy always attacking first twice ghoulking on big flying dead mouses.

if I were you I’d skip the battalions in total, since they can basically be called worthless, with some pestilence formations as exceptions.

throw out your Stormvermins which are basically just very expensive meathsield and worthless taken in any number unless you go to the limit (40) and even then this guys will die as fast as any other clanrats units something you really don’t want to see of a unit that costs more than most elite units that can deal more damage then them.

The doomwheel is a nifty tool although you might be better of spending those points on something different like jezzails or WPLCannons.

so to answer your questions yes skryre can be competitive, but if your just looking for some casual fun game where both sides don’t really care too much about winning, (like being ok loosing sometimes and winning sometimes), I’d just go with what you’ve got or what you like the most.

How about something like this then?

    Thanquol
    Arch-Warlock
    2x Bombardiers
    Greyseer on Bell

    3x3 Stormfiends
    80 Clanrats (40+20+20)

    1 Doomwheel
    2 Warplightning Cannons
    6 Jezzails

I'll probably never put 3000 points on the table at once, it's more the target number to build a collection to, then cut back on points from there to play 1k/2k point games. Clearly this isn't a "pure" Skryre army, but could be run as such, and is otherwise very Skryre-heavy. I mostly want to make sure I have enough variety to play competitive when I want, but to not have to play the exact same list every time. I'm also a bit wary of painting 120 clanrats, so I'm really curious if 3x20 is adequate, or 1x40 and 2x20, or if more is needed to be competitive.

    Thanks again for the help!

  3. So I’m considering jumping back into Skaven, my question though is how viable is a Skryre army these days? I tend to build my armies at about 3000 points to have some diversity at 2000 and 1000.

Would this be a reasonable collection to play with? Can I make some competitive lists from this?

    Thanquol
    Arch-Warlock
    2x Bombardiers

    2x3 Stormfiends
    3x20 Clanrats
    20 Stormvermin

    1 Doomwheel
    2 Warplightning Cannons
    6 Jezzails

    Warpcog Convocation (Arkhspark and Gascloud)

    thanks!

  4. So if someone were crazy enough to start Bonesplitterz today, what advice would you have for them?

It seems like the Kunnin’ Rukk is still pretty popular, but I’ve heard of people doing quite well with the Icebone warclan. It seems like 2 boxes of boys (making 30 boys, 4 big stabbas, and 2 Wardokks) , two boxes of pigs (maniaks), plus a handful of characters might be an economical start to a decent list.

Haha of you are ever in Amsterdam we'll play a pick up game and it will work I guarantee it ;)

no but seriously yes people will break it but I'm convinced even more people will have great experiences with it. Unless I get the rules next week and they suck of course ;)

I may just have to take you up on that!

Thankfully there's always Hinterlands, just sad that the official Skirmish rules are sounding more like "how to run an escalation league" to get people into making larger armies, rather than a proper skirmish game. Oh well, just means more money to save for Underworlds when it hits!

haha never thought of this. But to be honest it doesn't look to me like GW is trying to create a perfect system just a fun little add-on. If that isn't for you that's of course fine. Can't imagine anyone in my gaming group trying to break a system like this. But you are right, there probably will be people doing stuff like that if you organise a skirmish tournament.

Then again just houserule it to maximum 20 models or something.

Yeah, it's the same people that made Path to Glory just about unplayable by taking a Lord Celestant on Stardrake and 50 Liberators as their "warband," when players like Sylvaneth are stuck with a Branchwych and a handful or Dryads, lol. I'm just imagining the destruction player with the cheapest possible hero, then the maximum amount of grots and moonclan with bows to fill in the rest. I generally look to see how a game can be broken so I know what I can expect from the least of us, haha.

Basically, it means there won't be skirmish tournaments without house rules, and for pick up play, it's not really going to work.

Watch the Miniwargaming review. They talk about the limits of creation a bit. Your concern is valid but handled it seems. You can only take that many of a single warscroll and the warscroll options seem very limited.

Ehh, that's hardly handled, haha. With multiple types of goblin, or just beastmen taking 20 ungor, 20 raiders, you're at 60 points, a shaman brings that to 78, and supposedly in campaigns you will be reaching 100+...

It seems like it would be pretty trivial to take a large number of models and swamp out anyone who is playing something closer to what we can assume GW meant. Without damage rolling through units, you could possibly have more models than someone is even capable of killing over the course of a game.

Really, I'm hoping this is a legit skirmish game, instead of a game that GW is just putting out with minimal effort to sucker people to starting full new AOS armies.

i think people are missing out on the fact that campaigns start at are listed to start at around 25 renown. 50 - 100 is just sizing examples.

I think 50 renown battles are going to be similar to what we've seen on stream, with a hero that essentially takes up all the points, and a small regiment to follow him. I assume 100 renown games will mostly feature more than one hero, and if most heroes will be 20+ its safe to say that the game still wont look too big.

It sounds like 50-100 was suggested for a one off game. 100+ seems extreme though, and isn't hard to get to in a campaign.

Some people were saying reknown is just warscroll points divided by 5. If so, anything much over 100 renknown drifts into the territory of just a normal size game of AoS, with 200 renown equaling 1000 points.

Yeah that's where the concern is, 100 renown seems like you can make quite a large army, especially if you have goblins or ungor, I was really hoping for a specific hard cap to be in the Warband creation rules. I just don't want it to end up like Kill Team where the best way to go was with Orks or Tyranids taking as many of the cheapest troop as possible, ending up with more models than you could even reasonably kill in a game.

They look really good I especially like the pipe, any ideas on colour schemes?

Funny you should ask, I just got done priming all of the models.

I prefer mine to be inspired by different snow-dwelling animals, instead of everything being the same. My Stonehorn are painted off-white with dark grey skin, kind of like a polar bear (starts off as that yellow). The Thundertusks will be red-brown, inspired by Woolly Mammoths. My Frostlord's mount will be albino, bear-cats will be dark brown, wolves and Yhetees will be off-white.

  11. Some minor points tweaks for BCR would be awesome! I think overall the book is currently fantastic, but could use some minor tweaks on points more than anything (and fixing Path to Glory across the board).

Since I'm playing Destruction, I'll keep my feedback to them (don't talk about what you don't know!). It's also easier to see what costs too much, rather than what costs too little, so take this all with a grain of salt. Oh and the requisite call to increase the points of Kurnoth Hunters by 40-60 points.

    • Thundertusk Beastriders +20 points
    • Frostlord on Thundertusk -20 points
    • Huskard on Thundertusk +40 points
    • Braggoth's Beasthammer -20 points
    • Grot Scraplauncher -40 points
    • Ironblaster -20 points
    • Greenskin Orruks and Boarboys -20 points
      • Ideally brought in-line with Bonesplitterz wounds count instead, not really a GHB change.
    • Nasty Skulkers -10 points
    • Grot Wolf Riders -20 points
    • Gordrakk, the Fist of Gork -80-100 points
    • Megaboss on Maw-krusha -60 points
    • Ardboyz naturally Battleline, -20 points
    • Orruk Gore-gruntas -20 points
    • Grot Fanatics size 3-6 for 80
      • Slightly cheaper, but higher minimum investment and must deploy/release together.
    • Arachnarok with Spiderfang Grot Shaman +40 points
    • Arachnarok without Howdah -40 points
    • Gem of Seeing is just bad Battle Brew
      • Make it +1 to hit for any of your units attacking the target unit, not just the bearer.
    • Blade of Vituperation is just awful
      • Make it +1 attack (for a single weapon) per enemy hero within 12". or...
      • +1 to-hit and to-wound for each enemy hero within 12"
    • Collar of Dominion is cute, but compared to other items not useful.
    • Battle Brew is far too good
      • Make it +2 to-hit/wound, but one-time-use, or...
      • Roll a D6, on a 1 you suffer a mortal wound, on a 2+ you get +1 to-hit/wound,  or...
      • +1 to-hit/wound causes a mortal wound, +2 to-hit/wound causes a mortal wound each turn for the rest of the game and exhausts the item.
    • Oh and the requisite call to increase the points of Kurnoth Hunters by 40-60 points, and fixing Compendium Warscroll Battalions.
  12. My Beasclaw Raiders are coming up soon in my painting queue (just behind two Infinity models and my dwarf BB team), which means it's time to finish off my conversion work. The last couple days gave me a bit of time to finish work on my Torr Huskard (Thundertusk), as well as my Frostlord (on mount with swappable head). I was excited when the Vulcharc came out for the Kairic Acolytes so that I could get a different posed bird in the army, and it fits perfectly with the feel I wanted for my Huskard, plus I have a second one to put in the army somewhere (and may want to get a couple more eventually).
