  1. Eek, there's a lot of bad feels here. It's worth reminding ourselves that the store anniversary stormcast chap is carrying a bullgor head. Unless he slayed the last bullgor in the mortal realms then I'm confident we'll still exist. Also, I think BoC is a well collected army, there's at least three collectors at my LFGS, so I don't think we'd be the first marked for the chop.

Nevertheless I can see why Kragnos is annoying to BoC players. I anticipate centigors are going as Kurnothi and Kragnos have taken that aesthetic but I don't believe the rest of the goats and bulls are going anywhere.

(I have no idea about the DOs)

  2. Also dont write off the devolve spell, hugely situational but great for dealing with screens and castle builds, maybe even cheekily pulling a unit off an objective or out of an aura.

I think its my favourite part of BoC when you get it off, either that or summoning 10 gors/ungors and making a 9+ charge to take an objective in turn 4 or 5.

The worst parts are when all your heroes are shot off by turn 2 or when your giant falls over onto the BL that just cut him. Devastating stuff.

  3. Well this list served me well at a tournament before lockdown 2 here in the UK but its not clear whether youre allowed to have the magmic invocations in a non-fyreslayer allegiance and whilst no one has suggested i am cheating I'd rather not stray into this area if people think i'm being a bit too gamey so i've retired the list whilst i have a think what i could use the extra points for or shift over to playing a different army when games finally happen again.

  4. I'm with Grimdork on this, I've been playing as Lethisian Defenders with a mix of KO, Fyreslayers and a SC priest. The FS priests definitely get the prayer on their warscroll and I've had no complaints from opponents about taking Magmic Invocations, they are just only available to my FS priest and not the SCE priest. You lose a lot of the FS power without their allegiance ability but HGB and VB are both still really good, they make good allies for KO's mobility.

  5. Having had a few games with the old list i've made some amendments to my list:

    Leaders:

Runesone on MD (priest, 5+ FNP and Morrdas Eye prayer)

    Runesmiter (Morrdas resurrection prayer)

    Battlesmith

    Thundrik

    Brokk Grunggson

Lord Veritant w/ pooch (Morrdas embrace prayer)

    Units:

Vulkites x 10 battleline with picks

HG Beserkers x 10 with poleaxes

    Arkanaut co x 10

    Arkanaut co x 10

    Thundriks dudes

6 endrinriggers, one skyhook and 5 with rivet guns and saws

    Gunhauler with cannon

    Other:

    Fyrewall

    Zhaggron flamespitter

    Extra command point

    2000

Strategy castle build as before with the fyreslayers all together near the middle. 1 Arkanaut unit on each side, one with thundrik and his mates and the other with veritant and the dog. Magmadroth can go where he wants but needs to avoid being smashed by something silly, other than that he's very survivable with the fyrewall and battlesmith occasionally falling in range. The gunhauler, brokk and the endrinriggers sit in range of thundrik for his RR ones buff. I drop the runesmiter and HGB last just behind the vulkites as this really messes with opponents deployment as they expect the alpha strike.

The list further confuses opponents as  the HGBs reputation makes people fear them, even in a blob of 10. The fyreslayers infanty havent been the part that dishes out the damage though. Brokk flying high with the gunhauler and riggers is terrifying with the reroll and the plus 1 to charge from the skyhook. I dont typically use this first turn as everything is too compact and i want to hit the valuable things so for the first couple of turns i will stay where i am or edge forward to get the ArCo on the objectives for their buff using the flamespitter to do a few mortals but little else. When they're a bit more stetched out then i start moving forward and drop brokk and the shock troops on one of the flanks, the riggers die to a stiff breeze but dish out horrendous damage with their saws, also dont shoot the unit you want to charge after flying high otherwise your charge roll needs to be higher.

Typically i wait to be charged in more cases than i do the charge.

Its all going quite well but with only one dispell i know a magic heavy build will rinse the small heroes on this army.

Sorry for the long write up, i hope this helps

This army is fully legit for play now as GW have reversed their stance and made old battalions from White Dwarf and other supplements legal without requiring permission.

This is great news and a sensible, helpful move from GW.  Also means the last couple of months painting up mixed dwarves havent been wasted. Might even commit to buying some liberators now.

  7. I can't imagine we'll see another nation-wide lockdown as it's too expensive for the economy so GW's supply chain and our hobby will now be dependent on the compliance and social distancing of people in and around Nottingham to avoid a local lockdown. Fingers crossed for Warcry Catacombs in the next month to see me through the rough times.

    Legion of Grief:

    - You can show everyone how filthy rich you are, because Legion of Grief has the most expensive rules per page money-wise. Only Defenders of Lethis can compete on this level of swag!
    - Your army can stop being legal at tournaments as soon as Forbidden Powers leaves the webstore, so you feel a constant tingly excitement thinking about it. Then it vanishes suddenly and you become one of this mysterious Legion of Grief players of yore.

I'm playing a fyreslayers/KO mixed Lethisian Army and bought forbidden power only a month ago to get the two pages required from the book. I accept i am a ****** but i love me some mixed dwarves and the lack or ur-gold and aethergold bonuses from the respective mono factions makes me less killy and more fun to play against.

Can i just clarify if my army is still tournament legal or whether i should start a new thread to discuss?

40mm base 1" reach, even with 3+, it's not great. When you want to resurrect you can only bring one a turn.
In sce list libs are taking at minimum size as core tax

Fair point, Arkanaut company with their shooting, near objective buffs and the reroll battleshock from the allegiance will continue to be my main battleline choice.

  10. I'm inclined to agree with Mcthew both because it serves my interest as i want to get started with this allegiance and secondly i agree its not a warscroll or battalion, just a seemingly rare and obscure allegiance choice. You can still play much older factions such as dispossessed to my knowledge so surely 15 month old allegiances shouldnt be getting the chop.

Nevertheless i have my first game as Lethisian tomorrow. List below:

    Leaders:

    - Runeson on magmadroth (general)

    - Runesmiter on foot.

    - Endrinmaster with balloon.

    - Knight incantor

    Units:

    - 2 x 10 Arkanaut company (BL)

    - 10 vulkite beserkers (BL) (picks and shields)

    - 2 x gunhaulers

    - 2 x 3 endrinriggers

    - 5 auric hearthguard

    - 10 hearthguard beserkers (polestrike)

    Artillery:

    Celestar ballista

    Spells:

    Zhaggron flamespitter

    Dais Arcanum

Thoughts are... Castle style build at the beginning with lots of screening (i think i'm playing against beasts so need to ride out the turn 1 ambush) keeping celesta and gunhaulers in the middle. Runesmiter underground with the HGB. The gunhaulers, Endrinmaster and riggers for mobility and late game movement/objective grabbing.

  11. Ok, there clearly aren't many of us playing a Lethisian Army but does this GHB 2020 designers' commentary indicate that Lethisian Army is no longer valid for matched play/tournaments or is the allegiance not affected by this just the warscrolls?

Q: Can I use rules from older publications in Pitched Battle (2020) games, such as Mercenary Companies from the General’s Handbook 2019? A: Yes, but only if your opponent agrees or a house rule permits it.

Q: The Pitched Battle Profiles 2020 book does not include profiles for warscrolls or warscroll battalions from previous editions of White Dwarf magazine, from battleboxes like Carrion Empire or for store-exclusive limited edition models. Can I use these profiles in Pitched Battle (2020) games? A: Yes, but only if your opponent agrees or a house rule permits it.

  12. I have enjoyed getting a 200pt 40man blob of ungors on the herdstone. As the aura expands they can start to move out and if you leave a single file trail back to the herdstone you can sacrifice from the blob as well.

I have also taken 6 x 10 gors with shields and with the ambush or +3 from the bray shaman they can be all over the board. Fighty units will kill them but others tend to get stuck and it just makes it so much harder for the enemy to get around the board.

Disclaimer though - I play for fun and am not a top player!

Also, does anyone else share my hatred of playing nighthaunt? The ethereal ignoring rend and being able to fly over screens is devastating against me.

  13. Another thing to note about expecting to be given first turn as I also play beasts of chaos. With bodies and speed (and summoning even) it's actually easier than you think to screen off large chunks of the board so you end up not being able to fly high and will spend a couple of turns fighting your way out of the corner. Seraphon were also capable of screening massive amounts of space using skinks (this was before the new book, not sure about since as I haven't played them or anyone in the last couple of months).

  14. I'm coming over to Slaves from BoC :) Just a quick one about the Darkoath Chieftain which I think is an obvious yes but worth confirming as I don't want to miss out on any MWs - does he have to be alive at the end of the combat phase for the ability deathblow to work?

  15. We have two beasts players in our group, of which i'm one. The other chap plays belakor and people really struggle against him shutting down their main unit. Generally makes people a little salty too.

Grashrak and his dudes are two drops so including him does up the drops significantly but his spell is great and those dudes arent useless as they'll tank some wounds for him.

  16. The bray shaman is pretty quick as his movement buff affects himself so his base move is 9" + d6 for the run. A decent run roll of CP means he's only a couple of inches of the pace of the disks.

I'm not sure Darkwalkers is great for tzaangor heavy list as they can move so fast anyway they're more likely to get closer than 9" away for a charge. The bullgor +1 to charge really does work well with Darkwalkers though.

I'm also keen to hear how well the fomoroid crusher works. We have a couple of beasts players in our meta and we're struggling to keep up with the more competitive armies so looking for anything to add in. Belakor seems to be a pretty useful addition and i'm looking at getting an allied manticore in for a more heavy duty hero - after a couple of poor showings on places of arcane power!

What do you think about this roster? Its 2 drop, with very fast and hard hitting mass of bestigors. Lots of spells and unbinds. I dont play BoC but theorycrafted this for my friend.

    10 x Ungor Raiders (80)
    3 x Chaos Spawn (150)

    Wildfire Taurus (80)
    Chronomantic Cogs (80)

    Total: 1990 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 158

I like 30 bestigors for a few reasons. Mostly involving spells. They can tank wounds with mystic shield whereas the 10 can be limited quickly with shooting or spells. Also with grashraks +1 to hit against a unit, tendrils and wild rampage they are an absolute menace with 3 attacks each on the charge, 2+ to hit on units over 10 models, rerolling 1s against order, 3+ to wound rerolling failed and -2 rend, -3 with the herdstone. Add in gavespawns additional attacks CA and you've killed pretty much anything. I've not run more than 1 lump of 30 though. Also worth bearing in mind that fitting 30 x 32mm bases in a 6" band around the edge of the board and being 9" away from enemy isnt actually straightforward.

I also favour more screens as i dont want any of my good stuff being charged.

I struggle with savage dominion as a spell and prefer wild rampage or vicious stranglethorns.

Spawn are ****** but running in a unit may make them more useful. I'd be interested to know if others have done this.

    Hope this helps.
