I don't think the top lumineth lists are going to change that much. That means a couple big blocks of sentinels, teclis, character support, and as few wardens as you can get away with.

As with anything we will have to see how this edition shakes out as well as what the tourney meta shapes itself into, but in this humble gamers opinion, I dont think it will be as bad as everyone is making out.

  2. A lot of the time Sentinels were used as battleine, and they are conditionally unlocked by needing another unit first which also went up in cost. As did a lot of the other units including support pieces, yes they can just take 20 as a standard unit if they want, but that's 300 for 20, or 450 if battleline. I honestly dont think they will be that much of a problem anymore. If my opponent wants to dump that many points into them and plan a strategy around unleash hell, then go for it.

  3. Had a game at the weekend using the new Allarielle rules. I'm pleasantly impressed with how she performed. No she is not a combat monster, or a scary caster, or a 360noscope mlg shooter. But she was active in every phase of the game. Constantly providing heals and spells. Constantly plinking away with metamorphosis and her spear, and properly supported ( ie not solo yolo the entire enemy army) she chunked units in combat. She was also hard for our opponents to kill. You have to commit to bursting her down or she heals right back up. The summon also lets you toolbox the correct unit for the current table state. If you expect to out cast Teclis or Nagash or fight Archaon or Morathi you will be sorely disappointed. But keep her screened, deal with threats to her, and she will last the entire game. While being an amazing tool box support piece. All in all very happy. This comming from someone who had boxed my Sylvaneth and all but forgotten them. List was as follows:

    Heart wood.

    Allarielle

    Arch Rev

    Branchwraith

    30 Dryads

    2x 5 Tree Revs

    6 Hunters with Scythes

    3 Hunters with Bows.

Summoned another 3 with bows. All 6 kept behind a wood and near the horn of the consort on the wraith for some fairly consistent and deadly shooting.

Morathi being a Hero and Monster vs. Cauldrons and Shrines now losing Look Out, Sir! does feel like another big swing towards taking Morathi rather than not now.

Yeah but Morathi is likely to shoot up in points anyway. They said a GHB is comming and what with Daughters being aggressively pointed I expect to get whacked. Besides the Totem changes, and heroic actions make cauldrons really good now. Extra range on command abilities, plus the chance to heal or grab CP will make them a key part of any list. Plus a slaughter queen on cauldron with daughters impressive suite of buffs, popping Finest Hour can hit like a freight train.

  5. Please dont make a shooting spam army. AoS is not 40k and many players like AoS as an escape from the gun line wars of that game. Also while all shooting can be potent, there are enough scary melee armies in AoS to give you serious trouble if they get to your lines.

  6. Gotta say I'm really sick of this current meta. I regularly flick through most of the armies forums and all anyone is talking about is how to spam shooting, fish for the double and end the game turn 2. Heck the new Hedonites hotness is spam blissbarb cause muh mortal shooting yo. I got out of 40k precisely because it was a gun line shoot fest that saw huge chunks or your army nuked from turn to turn. AoS offered a more combat oriented experience, but it seems the gun line shoot fest has followed me over. Sorry if this seems like a rant but, i thoroughly hate this boring meta. The sooner it effs of the better, tone down all the battletomes and allow combat to happen again. Even that has changed into one round deletions where players say a unit sucks if it cant nuke a unit in one combat phase.

After delving into everything, there are only three things I'm discontent with:

    1) Morathi rend nerf is big. It may not seem significant, but there are A LOT of traits/abilities/artifacts/etc. that flat ignore -1 rend or reduce it. Not only that, but all of the high armor units in the game (most models coming out nowadays) have 3+ or 2+ saves, often rerolling. There are many units she'll simply bounce off of with only -1 on her primary weapon. No way she'll be able to fight any Idoneth sea creatures, or any Fyreslayers, or KO with gold, or Seraphon dinos, or Lumineth with quartz...hell, even a unit of Sequitors would give her trouble! And the list goes on. I'm still not convinced this isn't an error...so everybody email them about it!

    2) Avatar has an actual useful ability now to increase prayer rolls---but he's still too expensive. Knock him down to 100 and we might have something here.

    3) Heart of Fury is probably too expensive for how unreliable it is. 3+ to invocate (no way to improve the roll), with a 50% chance to disappear after each battle round. Reducing damage by 1 is cool, but it's only for attacks---not spells or abilities---so it's still limited. 50-60 points would be more reasonable to fit in.

Aside from this stuff, I think the book is great.

I concur, email the heck out of GeeDubs feedback department. While I can  perfectly understand and even stomach the wider changes, the rend nerf feels like salt in the wound. The reason I used Morathi was to deal with large threats. Now even Teclis sword has  better rend. Not to mention even some chump dude on Glutos gets -2.

  8. I cant understand why people are upset about the inclusion of Wholly Within. It should have  been clear to anyone with a Brain stem it was comming. Every other book has followed the same format, no way Daughters were going to escape it. That said I Iike the update. The only two things I dislike is the CV 8 on mindrazor and the changes to Witch Brew.

Boy those new dice are boring as all heck. Solid red, that's it?

Oh well, I like to use mostly normal dice and just use the old DoK dice for specific things like prayers anyhow

I guess my paranoid, baseless worry with the new book is that they'll completely flip the switch here and overnerf witches and hag brew

Seconded. I'm very worried that they nerf the Witch Brew, either removing the full re rolls or the Battleshock immunity. Knowing the silly decisions GeeDubs takes I wouldn't be surprised to see it become a command ability. Though hopefully this is all unfounded, it would be odd for them them to nerf an army that isn't all that obnoxious anymore, while simultaneously power creeping other battletomes.

  10. That makes more sense. So at the double overrides everything and turns the whole roll into 6. Thanks for being patient with me. I kinda think GeeDubs have not quite explained that clearly enough. It's not just me whom I know that wording has confused.

Q: How does the At the Double command ability interact with an ability that allows you to roll 2D6 when a unit runs (such as the Seekers of Slaanesh Quicksilver Speed ability)?

A: Right, listen here you nitwits, when At the double is used on run rolls involving more than one dice, regardless of the total rolled, the whole blooming thing is treated as you having rolled a total combined roll of 6.
