It's been 3 years and my memory is failing me; how much actual information do the faction focuses typically give us?

A brief faction overview and one or two rules? Maybe a warscroll, or a select ability or weapon profile?

I don't recall much from the previous faction focuses which tells me that there wasn't much to remember.

Here is the page with the links to the faction focuses in 3rd edition, but they were not called Faction focus then.

  2. In the War-Com article when they announced The Hunt, they mentioned that the Gods and Heroes rules were still in effect and had been incorporated into the FAQs. If you check the FAQs, you will find them there. Kragos' new warscroll is the errata for Orruk Warclans. Archaon's warscroll is in the Errata for StD. Nagash's new warscroll is in the errata for Soulblight. The changes to the core rules are on the last page of the errata and not in their respective sections, which would be easier to deal with.

  3. It is the Sons of Behemat ability on the Mega-gargants warscroll card. Son of Behemat: If a spell or ability would slay this model without any wounds or mortal wounds being inflicted by the spell or ability, this model suffers D6 mortal wounds instead.

This ability is also on all of the mercenary warscroll cards for the megas as well (from the new app). The mancrusher gargants do not get this ability.

  4. Companies destroying their products to not dilute their brand is unfortunately very common. There has been somethings online lately about Whole Foods throwing away not expired food. This article about that also mentions Coach (purses) destroying their products:

And of course there is the Atari dump thing from a long time ago:

Yes, they definitely do. Here is the clarification from the Core Rules errata (page 5, section 27.1):

So, I'm interested in the same thing as @frenk_castle - which battlepacks contain rulings that forbid using coalition units to fill mandatory battleline slots?

It was shown in the GHB 2021 preview videos. Coalition units cannot be battleline in the pitched battles battlepack. I did not watch the preview videos for the core book, so I don’t know about the contest of generals battlepack.

None of the poll options fit me.  I suppose "Yes, with doubts" is the closest.

I'll probably subscribe, but not a day before there's a working AoS army builder included.

There are some digital battletomes in my Azyr app that aren't nostalgic looks back - they are current in-use battletomes (unless all battletomes are trashed with 3rd? I haven't heard that...).  I'd sure like to have those in the new app...

I agree. "Nostalgic look back"?!  I feel like I just bought the Soulblight Gravelords Battletome last month!  And since everyone says it was designed for 3.0, I'm assuming a new battletome isn't coming anytime soon.  Am I going to have to buy it again?

The newest article has clarified what "battle packs" are. Apparently, they are suites of rules you agree to use. I think this kind of thing is nice, it gives players an easy way to decide how complex they want their games to be. I imagine most people will still want to play at full complexity eventually, but it's nice that the option is there.

I like that this is in the rule book, because it makes the idea that you can pick and choose your rules "official". You can always do this, of course, but having it as an explicit option in the book will make people consider the idea when they might not have otherwise.

I am really hoping that there is a battlepack for casual matched play or what you non-celiacs call beer and pretzel gaming.  I don't think I'm ever going to a tournament and in my group we've never had trouble deciding if we are taking "mean" lists or fun lists or monster-mash lists or any other type of list we'd like to play.

I’m sat here looking at 2 boxes of Dire Wolves wondering why didn’t I have more self control and wait till the new edition drops.

I’m telling myself that they will be fast to build (how many pieces can there be anyway?) and paint (spray chaos black and drybrush, drybrush, drybrush!)

  9. I'm putting serious effort into building, painting and basing, so I will be as ready as possible for the dominion box.  I'm also trying to try out the battalions that I've always wanted to use before 3.0 comes along in case I can no longer use them in match play. I played 2500 points of the Omniscent Oracles the other day (Tzeentch) and it was loads of fun.  I might want to repeat that game.

I had the same reaction to the hobgrotz, although I think they may be salvageable with a different paintjob and maybe clipping the lone spikes off the top of their heads. I still can't get over how absurdly short their legs are compared to their bodies, but at least with a more firmly green (or outright weirder hue like orange) skin they'll appear less like they've staggered off some old Yellow Peril style poster.

I don’t like the yellow skintones either. It looks like they are all dying of jaundice. When I google images “hobgoblins” I get mostly green, red or gray skintones. It will be good to see how others paint them. The gray or red seems most appealing to me.

  11. Spoiler

    AoSDaily Annihilators Jun6 Boxout2

Are we subtracting 1 or 2 from the charge roll to determine the number of dice rolled, and then dealing mortal wounds on a 4+ or a unit with 2 models deal MW on a 5+ and a unit of one model deals MW on a 6+?  I think it is the former, but I've read the rule a few times and am not sure.

  12. I played my first SBGL game this weekend.  I had never played LoN, so this was quite new to me. I was playing a combination of what I had on hand (VLoZD, 3 Terrorgheists, Necromancer) and units that I was proxing as I tried to decide if I "needed" them (10 and 20 skeletons and 40 zombies) . I was playing Avengorii because I love terrorgheists. My opponent was playing StD. He had a chaos lord on Karkadrak, chaos sorcerer lord, chaos lord, 2 exalted heroes, 3 Varanguard, 6 Varangaurd, 20 warriors with shields and a warshrine. We were playing Force the Hand.

The MVP of  the game for the Vampires was the 10 skeletons. 6 Varanguard charged into 20 skeletons and killed them completely in the 2nd round. The 6 varanguard piled in to bring in the unit of 10 skeletons and those 10 kept the varanguard in combat for 3 turns. They were supported by the necromancer, but after he moved away to capture an objective, they melted away.  the 40 zombies were in combat with the 20 chaos warriors and they only killed 2.  The warriors made an impressive number of 5+ MW saves.

Other highlights included the fact that my necromancer put the killing blow on a Varanguard, which shocked my opponent and that I lost the game because my opponent made a 12" charge into my 20 zombies (brought back from 40) on my primary objective and then he killed 15 of them and the last 5 ran to battleshock. The final score was 22 to 20, so if I had a hero in range to pass battleshock, I would have won. It was a close and fun game.

My take-aways from this game was that I need to position graveyards better, I need zombies and skeletons (yay-building more hordes)  and I need more small support heroes. After the game, I called my FLGS and asked them to set aside a box of zombies and skeletons for me. I think they will be a "necessary" part of this army.

No that's not correct, you're thinking of Royal Menagerie @Angela.

Royal Family calls for 1 Archregent or 1 Mounted Ghoul King, plus 2-6 Ghoul Kings.

It wasn't intended, but the core rules allowed you take as many mounted Ghoul Kings as you could fit. It ended up giving rise to lists of AAR, 3 x Mounted Ghoul Kings plus 3 x Ghouls for battleline. I played it several times, it was a nice way to get lowish drops whilst packing some big mounted kings, but ultimately they FAQ'd it after the 50th time it was discussed in the WhatsApp group, which contains one of the lead developers (he probably just got fed up of reading about it).

Oh, you are right.  I am sorry.  So we are hoping that they do not FAQ our battletome saying that the core rules don't apply for this battalion? I don't think I was playing FEC before that was FAQ'd so I never got to try that battalion. It sounds awesome.

Nah, all we have is that there are some armies with good battalions and some with not so good and GW wants to level the playing field a bit.

For all we know they'll just add a bunch of new universal ones in the book and call it done.

I really hope they don't get rid of them, I really like the Fellwing Flock - I'm a huge fan of Vargheists and the Fell Bats models are lovely, plus it's a nice little buff. I was really happy when I saw that in the book and I hope it stays for matched play.

Based upon the preview videos, there is one battalion in the pitched battle profiles, Legion of Shyish, that was not covered in the book (Ash only reviewed 4 battalions). I keep wondering if this is the "core battalion" and it gives me hopes that core battalions will be in addition to the battalions in the battletomes.

  15. 6 hours ago, Egalogalis said:

Ah I wasn't aware of that, I'm not familiar with the FEC rules.

That's a shame, I guess I was premature in buying a second zombie dragon kit with ny pre-order

FEC is a completely different situation. That battalion calls for 3+ Royal Terrorgheists or Royal Zombie Dragons and the warscrolls for mounted ghoul kings have "Abhorrant Ghoul King"  as the title of warscroll with the mount as a sub-header. You can ignore sub-headers. You cannot ignore the actual name of warscroll.  A better example is the Seraphon battalions that call fro an Oldblood.  There were many questions regarding that and GW did not put out an FAQ because it is covered by core rules- when taking a battalion, sub-headers can be ignored.

  16. 18 minutes ago, Aren73 said:

Actually I saw something on the FB group saying this was FAQed and that mount choices are fine for rules like this. Because it's "Vampire Lord" as the main title and "on Zombie Dragon" as the subtitle.

It is from the core rules "If an entry is the title of a unit, any unit with that title can be used (you can ignore sub-headers under the title unless they are included in the entry for the unit)." It's like the Old Blood in the Seraphon Battalion.

Is there anything official about the battalions going away or is it still a rumor?

In the interview with the designers at Warhammerfest, the designers did mention core battalions and referred to there being armies that were have and have not in relation to battalions and that the core battalions would fix this. I am really hoping that the core battalions are in addition to warscroll battalions as oppossed to instead of warscroll battalions.

Speaking of core battalions, did everyone notice the "Legion of Shyish" battalion in the Pitched Battle Profiles of Soulblight that isn't otherwise covered in the book? Is that the first "core battalion"?

I only want the Wight king...

I am curious why they throw that many grave guard at us?

I was just about to buy 20 grave guard, so I will buy this kit. I'm thinking of making the black knights into hexwraiths and then allying them in, or just waiting for the first faq, people to start playing (maybe they are better than they sound?), or for 3.0 before deciding to build them.
