It was the new box. New style and everything. It’s just one weapon type no matter if you go two weapons or big weapon.

also it’s hard to open a first edition box when I saw them take it out of their shipping box and go “oh new red boxing!” I’ve been in the hobby when they were in their old box, then the super boring all white box.

also in new boxes, weapons aren’t named. It’s just pictures of what they look like.

RIP my ironjawz at this rate, I love them for feeling like a smashy bashy army not a load of pillowfists. Hopefully the warscroll has some tasty abilities but I'm not sure it'll make up for the feeling of da boyz bouncing off chaff. At least in the 1.0 ironjawz book you could have them dishing out 7 or 8 attacks each to make up for the mediocre profile.

Cheers for the advice mate, i havnt tried using wrath of gork with my shaman yet.....and i must admit that brutes are my favourite ironjawz models so might have to give that a go

I ran a double brutefist 8x5 brutes in da choppas at a tts tourney and it was terrible, I only got wrath off once killing 7 marauders but the biggest issue was just how slow it was. The reroll charges was great but man what a slog it was getting on objectives. I've just started testing a 8x3 ggs in a double gorefist in ironsunz and it's so much better.

  3. I pretty much kept the renders near the thralls and ran the reavers back to them if they needed healing. I also took reverberating carapace so it was pretty easy

Edit: well that took me down a very long path of reading core rules, faqs, old battletomes, aos 1.0 rules and more  when I noticed the core rules only said 'the' battleshock phase not 'your' battleshock phase  and I figured it must say it somewhere. Currently aware of this idk rule, vanhel's danse macabre and weirdly the dryad enrapturing song ability which must be the only new book that has that limitation. Poor sylvaneth 😆

I was so excited when I heard that there was a list including Lotann in the tournament! I really wish you were on the stream! Did you find the Namarti Thralls any better? Do you find it better to run the thralls as MSU or in big blocks? MSU might get more in combat, but then you couldn't get the Soulrender Lurelight to some into play much...

Thralls were definitely better, 2 games I was against fyreslayers and big waagh so not great matchups for them. With the triple soulrenders big blocks are better to make sure something survives for the healing, in a game against 21 bow hunter sylvaneth he shot the 30 blob down to one model and by the end of my next turn the unit was back up to 30. I'm now running 2x10 reavers for screens, 30 thralls as the main heal blob and 20 thralls as the deep strike blob. Because the lurelight triggers in both players' turns the amount of respawning namarti was insane, you can do some real fun tricks with stealing objectives when you're stringing out a fresh 15 models each turn 😆

That is a very good idea. Thank you!

I was wondering if it were possible to make a list that had a decent number of namarti reavers? I know that due to the armie's buffs being combat based it is hard, but if I'm not wrong we could get reavers to 9"/3/3+/3+/-/1? Could there be something there?

I was thinking something like this:

      Hide contents

    Allegiance:

    Idoneth Deepkin

    LEADERS

Isharann Soulrender (80) - General - Lord of Storm and Sea

    Isharann Soulrender (80) - Lliandra's Last Lament

    Isharann Soulscryer (130)

Eidolon of Mathlann, Aspect of the Storm (330) -Cloud of Midnight

    UNITS

    20 x Namarti Reavers (240)

    20 x Namarti Reavers (240)

    30 x Namarti Thralls (320)

    10 x Namarti Thralls (120)

    BEHEMOTHS

    Akhelian Leviadon (340)

    BATTALIONS

    Namarti Corps (100)

I understand that it isn't very competitive, but do you think that it could have some legs, and are there any changes that should I make?

I love namarti and have just recently got in to idk, unfortunately even with all the buffs they really don't put out much damage even in 20s. I ran a pretty similar list at hammertime 7 (including lotann) and getting everything in range was tough, they ended up just being screens and objective grabbers. Still love them though, I'll always find room for 20.

    Hello Warmill,

these are very impressiv sculpts. Great work.

My Cousin is actually building an Ironjawz army and he saw your staffwielding shaman. Is there any possibility to add this sculpt to your site? I would definitly buy it. Thanks for keeping up the good work. 👍

Thanks, I thought I'd already put it on there but I will add it tomorrow!

No worries! It's tough to say... 3 Enlightened could do that but if you wanna kill those 5-6 wound support heroes then you already have a Lord of Change + Portal and his 18" shot with Chainfire Amulet can put out a decent amount of mortals. Personally I would much rather have a unit of 6 who can actually deal with an equally strong threat, like 20 Hearthguard, 30 Witch Aelves... etc, etc.

As for the range issue, that's just kinda commonplace really. People should always be premeasuring to stay out of range, but they likely can't do that the whole game. Pyrofane + Witchfyre is okay, but it isn't top-tier by any means as it's mostly just a quantity of low quality shots. I meant to ask about Arcane Transformation though.. who did you plan to cast that on? I'm not sure if you were aware but you can only give the buff to a Hero, which isn't entirely useful since none really benefit from +1 Bravery, movement or +1 attack.

Ah I meant arcane suggestion for the -1 to hit and wound, it's awesome on 40 skinks as they're basically totally gimped 🤣

I think yeah the battalion is a bit too much and I'll try keeping the extra enlightened and just squeeze in a balewind, I'm not worried about being 100% top tier as this army is a painting project, I'd just like to optimise it based on what I like about the army.

@Warmill I always say it's worth testing a list 3-5 times against different armies before you change anything. Has it worked out at all for you? What glaring issues have happened if not?

Personally I like having 6 Enlightened.. lets them keep their hitting power up a bit longer\better since they will likely get hit before they can attack and having 3 is risky. I usually go 6 or none at all because of that reason. I don't know that the GS needs a BW but yeah that 12" range is tough.. I guess if your meta is running a lot of Hordes then it would probably be worth it? Those 6 Enlightened are probably just as likely to wipe said horde unit though if you give them the +1 attack agenda and charge the side of a unit to limit what can pile into it.

Yeah as I say I've only played 2 games as tzeentch, I do like the combat potential of the enlightened so I would be sad to lose that, but then I figure 3 is enough to snipe heroes?

The issue I've found after 2 games is everything is 18" range so if the opponent hangs back they can really limit the effect of a round of spells and shooting, and spell portal only goes so far. To be honest I'm not totally sold on the battalion at 160 points but the rerolls on the summoner to help get arcane transformation might make the difference. Either way I can't wait to get a lot of games in to test it out!

  9.

    Allegiance: Tzeentch
    - Change Coven: Pyrofane Cult
    Lord of Change (380)
    - General
    - Command Trait: Shrouded in Unnatural Flame
    - Artefact: Chainfire Amulet
    - Lore of Change: Treason of Tzeentch
    Fatemaster (120)
    Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch (240)
    - Lore of Change: Arcane Transformation
    Tzaangor Shaman (150)
    - Lore of Fate: Bolt of Tzeentch
    20 x Kairic Acolytes (200)
    20 x Kairic Acolytes (200)
    10 x Kairic Acolytes (100)
    6 x Tzaangor Enlightened on Disc (360)
    10 x Brimstone Horrors of Tzeentch (60)
    10 x Brimstone Horrors of Tzeentch (60)
    Umbral Spellportal (70)
    Extra Command Point (50)

    Total: 1990 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 125

Immediate thoughts are I need a balewind for extra range on the gaunt summoner and I've squandered my enlightened both times. I'm debating dropping 3 enlightened and spell portal for a balewind and wytchfire coven too get the artefact rerolls on the GS spells, but I would really miss the combat potential of 6 enlightened and I can only see the hero phase shooting being useful turn 2. Should I give the current list another go and just drop the portal for balewind?

  10. Played my first game with tzeentch today after building the army back in April before lockdown. I'd considered selling the army a few times as I've been playing orruks since 2018 and didn't think I'd enjoy them, but I gave it a go and really enjoyed the play style. I'm going mortals as I love the acolyte models, took pyrofane cult against a friend's tempest eye cities list and was well pleased to bring home the win on focal points!

It was bit of a learning experience when I charged 20 acolytes with the +1 to hit agenda into 6 phoenix guard and only killed 1, with orruks you get used to killing what you charge. The lord of change with fatemaster reroll and artefact was an absolute killing machine, after one shot I was rolling 6d3 mws on a stardrake 🤣

Pics of the first painted models, the army's gonna be my passion painting project so will take a while to paint but I'm definitely committed to them now!

This, and I'm actually really interested in the way they handle combat range in 40k. No more ranges for melee weapons, you just need to have models in range of friendlies that are in range of the enemies. It would fix the inherent balance issues with small bases and make combats a lot quicker.

That would be a terrible move , it would instantly remove all the tactics for charging, positioning and piling in, so I really hope not. Neutering big units by tagging them either end is one of the best defences against them and 2 and 3" reach weapons would be pointless versus just taking big hordes.

These are some awesome work!  Do you happen to sell these sculpts at all?  I would love those shaman sculpts as weirdboyz in 40k, and that warboss with banner as well!

Thanks, I have a gumroad page, you can go to www.warmill.co.uk and there's a few items on there to either buy stls via gumroad or I'll be adding pre printed items as I go. I need to put some of them on there yet.

  13. Been a while since I posted what with the whole coronavirus thing. I've kept collecting orruks and now have way over 2k, some savage orruks have found their way in and are my favourite boyz now, the 3+6++ blob of 30 spears is an absolute essential in a big waaagh list in my opinion.

I did a couple more custom sculpts for my army in between commissions, a wardokk and my new fave, a rogue idol. I've not run the idol yet so I'm really looking forward to doing some smashing with it...

I also did up a banner boss for a list I was planning to test for a tournament list but sadly ghb2020 has nixed that.

  14. I'm playing in a 2 day tourney in September and have never run a rogue idol so sculpted one up for myself, he's almost finished printing so looking forward to getting some paint on it this weekend 😀

The list I'm planning to take is

    Allegiance: Big Waaagh!
    Wardokk (80)
    Wardokk (80)
    Orruk Warchanter (110)
    Orruk Warchanter (110)
    Orruk Megaboss (140)
    - General
    - Command Trait: Brutish Cunning
    - Artefact: Metalrippa's Klaw
    10 x Orruk Brutes (260)
    - Pair of Brute Choppas
    10 x Orruk Brutes (260)
    - Pair of Brute Choppas
    30 x Savage Orruks (300)
    - Stikkas
    20 x Savage Orruk Arrowboys (240)
    Rogue Idol (420)

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 205

I've not tested it yet, not sure how I'll get on with the lack of tech especially with only brutish kunning but I'm hoping the bodies, multiple threats and good old 3+ savage orruks  will make up for it.

Alright, I would like some input on the following list. I always disliked the Ardboyz and I believe now is the time to ditch them ;) I am thinking about trying the following list. I believe Shamans and Warchanters are becoming much harder to use in this arising new meta, so whilst I considered 1 Warchanter at least, I just couldn't fit it in without losing on bodies.  List is a 3-drop!

CP's will mainly be used for either Mighty Destroyers at key moments or for Gordrakk's Voice of Gork to buff multiple units in a big charge turn.

What do you all think in regards to composition, artefact/trait choice, strengths & weaknesses?

    Allegiance: Ironjawz

    Leaders
    Megaboss on Maw-Krusha (460)
    - General
    - Boss Gore-hacka and Choppa
    - Command Trait: Ironclad
    - Artefact: Metalrippa's Klaw
    - Mount Trait: Weird 'Un
Gordrakk the Fist of Gork (540)
    - Mount Trait: Mean 'Un

    Battleline
    6 x Orruk Gore-gruntas (320)
    - Pig-iron Choppas
    5 x Orruk Brutes (130)
    - Pair of Brute Choppas
    5 x Orruk Brutes (130)
    - Pair of Brute Choppas
    5 x Orruk Brutes (130)
    - Pair of Brute Choppas
    5 x Orruk Brutes (130)
    - Pair of Brute Choppas

    Battalions
    Ironfist (160)

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 121

It's pretty awful to be honest, you only have 1 free mighty destroyers a turn and only 1 extra CP from the battalion but at least 3 units who want to be moving per turn on top of potentially using gordrakk's CA, so you'll have pretty much no movement which is not good for IJ, especially with no teleport to compensate. 5 brutes are also going to struggle to trigger smashing and bashing so you'll be getting hit back a lot which MSU brutes aren't great at taking.

If you really want 2 krushas and brutes I would drop gordrakk and 5 brutes for a regular krusha, and either a weirdnob general with great green visions and dead kunnin or take brutish kunnin as your command trait instead and a  warchanter. The shaman will be either left alone or will take a turn of spells/shooting but by then he's generated the CPs and it means your krushas aren't getting killed early.

  16. Our gaming started filming some batreps and this weekend was my go on camera, brought my Ironjawz since I'd been playing mostly Big Waaagh! before lockdown and I really fancied getting back to my roots. Also brought Gordrakk just because I've never used him and it seemed appropriate to bring out the big toy for my first game since March. We've only just started so the overlays are a bit bare bones but we're focussing on commentators so the players can have a proper game. Watches and feedback is always appreciated, see how I fare against Ogor Mawtribes after not playing for 4 months 🤣

  17. Planning my first lists, I'm really liking the idea of a bravery bomb combined with the cathallar scroll spell and vertigo spell to pin important units in place and hit them with a rune of petrifaction for as many mw chances as possible.

    1984148166_Screenshot_20200628-124238_SamsungNotes.jpg.d3ace143aab3d638ec0650fc9a7ec5bb.jpg

Teclis list run as syar to spam the aetherquartz reserve to get -1 bravery on as much as possible and autocast the -2 bravery spell, pin 2 units and hit them with the rune and teclis nuke through the spell portal. 3 drops so a good chance of first turn choice.

    1099074048_Screenshot_20200628-124636_SamsungNotes.jpg.19c3ab2eae85c08c8aeaa30989a3c75b.jpg

No teclis run as generic so I can put the -1 bravery bubble on a stonemage for a potential -4 bravery. Twinstone buffs the casting to make sure i get the bravery and 2cp spells off and the dawnriders are there to cast solar flare to prevent the rune being unbound. Eltharion is just there for funsies and as a troubleshooter piece. 7 drops but more bodies and movement at the cost of some mw output and worse 5++ bubble.
