Is it correct that we can't use 50 points to buy relentless discipline.

That's a good question. I would say probably not. You buy a command point, not RD, so technically no. Depends on what the book says.

I guess another question is then, can OBR use the generic command abilities e.g. reroll charge rolls and the new ones from GHB19? Or do they use RD points for alternatives?

He misread it, it only affects mortal wounds. You can look at it yourself if you zoom in. And yes, all save-after-save rolls stack in the way you described.

You are right! I thought I could rely on someone reading from a book :D

Thanks for the clarification on the stacking as well!

The google doc is missing the fact that Reinforced Battle Shields also affects anything with normal Shields as well, so this also affects Mortek and Kavalos. However, it also ONLY affects Mortal Wounds.

It affects both wounds and mortal wounds, as per the reading here:

(EDIT: THIS IS NOT TRUE, THE GUY MISREAD)

    https://youtu.be/Whg32GhCqVE?t=1169

I do have a question about this very spell though: Does this stack with the 6+ after save the whole army gets? So roll for the 5+ and then after roll the 6+ afterwards? (Same question for all the combonations of wound negation there is with the general army trait.

  4. Hey everyone,

Just a quick question here, as we have a bit of a discussion going on in our group.

Do Command abilities effect the one giving the command? E.g. Gavriel Sureheart's ability that gives +3 to charge? Surely it affects him too?

Same with command traits. If I have the strauch defender trait from SCE (+1 save to everything wholly within 9"). It also affects him?

It seems abilities and spells always effect the caster, but some in our group are saying that for Command abilities it is different and was FAQ'd or something?

If it is / is not the case, then can you please show me where!

Any help would be great! Thanks!

  5. Hey everyone!

As the title says, I'd like to give my ossiarchs a look based in the undead draugr from Thor: Ragarok, but I am not sure what paints would be needed.

The hardest is what the bone colour actually seems to be from the pictures. I can't tell if its a grey, green or normal yellowy bone colour, because each picture is different! Anyone have any tips.

For the clothing, it seems to be a blackish grey, dark red and some green if I'm not mistaken. What would be some good choices ? For the wash I guess nuln oil?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Pretty much, when rerolling failed you don't get to account for negative modifiers

    8 minutes ago, Panzer said:

That's because re-rolls happen before modifier. Before modifier you technically passed your 4+ save so the re-roll doesn't apply. After modifier you failed your save but you are past the point where you could have re-rolled it.

Thanks both of you for the clarification! Makes much more sense this way.

The shieldwall ability is reroll saves not reroll *failed* saves, so rend doesn't stop you rerolling anything.

I think I am missing something here (still quite new to the hobby), but I thought that reroll failed saves was, well, save rolls that you didn't make. Im starting to think I have been playing wrong and my Sequitors aren't as beefy as I first thought.

Let's see if I can get this myself:

Basically it means that if an attack has -1 rend and I have a 4+ save (so need a 5+ on the roll), I can't re-roll the 4, because I technically "pass" because my save is 4+? So I can only ever re-roll anything 3 or less (if my save doesn't get buffed /debuffed etc)?

If that is the case then I have defffffinitely been playing wrong. The group that got me into it basically simplified it that rend basically changes your save characteristic, and doesn't change the actual roll (leaving your save characteristic untouched).

Hey all, first post here. Have been getting into AoS a bit lately and am looking to try out a new SCE list, one that will hopefully be competitive. I know Anvilstrike is the way to go for competitive lists, but I don’t own those models yet so going to try this out next game.

    Drakesworn Templar

    - General: Staunch Defender

    - Mount Trait: Thunderlord

    - Gryph-feather Charm

    - Arc Hammer

    Lord Castellant

    Knight Heraldor

    Battlemage

    - Hysh: Pha’s Protection

    3x5 Libs

    6 Desolators

    40 Flagellants

    3 Aetherwings

    2000 points on the dot.

So the army is obviously meant to be a hard to shift brick. The Desolator unit isn’t anything new, Castellant and Heraldor both support it really well. Drakesworn makes the list largely for the bow, that buff to hit should be huge for the Desolators. Not sure which weapon to give him, might go the Axe to limit pile-ins.

The Flagellants are probably the most interesting part of the list. I searched through every ally option trying to find a screening unit that I wanted. I know most use Skinks, but I think Flagellants have a lot of game here. I’m running the Battlemage for Phas Protection, can give any of the three big blocks -1 to hit. 40 Flagellants take up a heap of space, and have enough bodies that the fleeing mortal wounds start to actually matter.

Between the -1 to hit spell, -1 to hit on the Drake, Staunch Defender and the Castellant, the central brick should hold up to most anything. The Libs will likely start in the sky every game and go after objectives while the brick holds the middle.

Thoughts on the list? Anyone tried a max Flagellant block with SCE?

What about ignax's scales for the artefact? Mortal wounds will still do damage to it, so that 4+ could be a lifesaver. Throw in a Lord arcanum or incantor with azyrite halo on it. Then you dish out mortal wounds back on a 6.

  9. Guys and Girls, I need some help because I am losing my mind here.

I wrote up a list earlier in this thread about a Gav memeheart list, but I am looking at his warscroll, and he doesn't have the HoS keyword, nor does his CA say it has to be HoS units. It is for friendly "SCE". Here it is:

    https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/Downloads/aos-warscroll-Gavriel-Sureheart-en.pdf

I'm going crazy trying to figure this out, because I see lists with only the HoS as the stormhost, and people saying it can only be them.

I also bought the model yesterday and the warscroll is the same as there.

EDIT: It seems im a bit of a dumb dumb and it's not the most recent warscroll.....

    You win this round GW!

This and Gav are our best 3-2 armies. The only things that might give you problems are Total Commitment or some weird realm rules that turn off rend or reduce range.

I often heard about the legendary "Gav / Sureheart shenanigan list" but what is it exactly? Is it useable in the current state of SCE? What is the stormhost you take with it?

I was thinking on the painting scheme and a terracotta/clay theme would be great with a brown-red tone.

I'll have to think what paints I'll need to use for that 🤔

    Nice idea!

I'm thinking of going for a theme similar to the Draugr from Thor: Ragnarok.

Would be my first non-default colour scheme army and not sure what paints would make it work.

Gravesites work independently of any heroes, so you can dispel and then bring back D3 models (both abilities are at the start of the hero phase so you can pick the order they happen).   This actually makes the unit super effective as the whole unit gains +1 attack due to the dispel but should be pretty much back to full strength.

Should the unit be destroyed entirely then the general can bring them back from a gravesite with 1CP.  You could argue that the resurrected unit should have +1 attack as it's the same unit - however that's probably a little controversial (they could come back at any gravesite)

That's a good point with the whole unit being brought back but potentially retaining the +1. I can see both sides really.

I believe @Heijoshin is referring to Ben Savva's lists from the Essex GT and the recent Rage of Sigmar event.  Both can be found here:

That's right! I've also seen another list which uses the 2 x 12 Banshees here:

     (4th Pic I think).

They both happen in the hero phase, so you cast the endless spell first then immediately dispell it, it all happens in one turn. It is very effective and makes a risky take unit like myrmourns extremely powerful.

and with the max model count per unit, you are basically all but guaranteed to do that. And then you can immediately rez lost models at the gravesites with the general im presuming.

This is one of those tactics which I could just never come up with. I'm too "point and enemy and run" to think of things like this!

  15. 8 minutes ago, Qrow said:

LoG opened up the floor to the rest of the nighthaunt roster to LoN, with the ability to resurrect entire units it become way less of a risk to run expensive but flimsy units.

Another key point as that all these lists include a lot of endless spells, part of the plan is to use the myrmourns to dispell your own endless spells then bring back the casualties of those dispells with the gravemarkers. So while a lot of lists will include at least one spellcaster for the myrmouns, it is more self dependent.

Ah that sounds awesome. But they can't dispell in the same turn the spell was cast? So basically its drop something non-harmful, then next turn dispell and attack?

The rule adds one to the Attack Characteristic, so each model gets an additional attack.

    Gotcha, thanks!

In general, is the Mymourm pick to predictively counter some kind of magic meta that people are anticipating, or just because of the points changes that were made?

Oh good catch! I just thought he played order allegiance. But to be honest I let my friends play all the compendium stuff as darkling covens in friendly games as well. So maybe that’s what’s happening here.

Yeah it was just a friendly game, nothing serious really.

I had the match yesterday actually. I didn't win, and I was pretty overwhelmed by the tactics of it really as it was my first game. The deepstrikes didn't work out and i t did kinda mess up my positioning. Still, it was hella fun and my units did pretty damn good when they got into a good situation.

I didn't make good use of the hero buffs and abilities because they were too far back from the actual fighting.

Overall it was a good lesson and I learnt a lot on what the army is capable of, and what I need to do better next time!

Just be careful of her executioners. Those pack a real punch if you let them. Drop in your ballista or both I range of his reapers and simply pick off his crew. Those are the only things with real punch.

Fantastic, thank you! Got quite a lot of -1 to hits for those executioners, so that should be ok.

I'll pick off the crew with the celestar right away.

In general is it better to go 1st or 2nd do you think, if I get to choose? Or anyone else for that matter)

  19. 56 minutes ago, XReN said:

Such match-up heavily depends on how experienced your friend is, because Executioners are easily countered by -1 to hit (Their thing is dealing 2 MWs on a 6+ to hit, outside of that they are 1 damage with no rend)
Outside of that tip, you can just walk through them with ease, Covens aren't very good and it will take a lot of skill and, quite possibly, allies, to make them dangerous to SCE

I think they have played a few games with the Dark Elves, and more so for AoS in general and its basically my first real game. Thanks for the tip though! Whats the best way to give that -1 to hit?

Looking forward to finally have a full game.

A lot of people here will argue not to go Hammers of Sigmar unless you're using a named character that requires it, however nothing feels better than bringing back a large unit of Sequitors when they die. For a casual game when it goes off it's hilarious and game changing, and an easy stormhost to learn with.

Mount trait: Wind Runner is my go-to. The extra dice could be the difference in stealing an objective.

3rd leader: They're both great choices which you can't go wrong with. If you pick the Relictor, give him Translocation.

Would this list require 2 battleline at 1500 points? Depends on what you've agreed to play of course.

Evocators spells: Yes they most certainly can and that's my usual choice.

Castigators: The more you can replace with anything else the better.

    Hope this helps.

What would be a good alternative do you think if not going Hammers of Sigmar?  I did choose this one for the ability to bring them back, as I thought that would get some shocks if it goes off!

Thanks for the Mount trait tip! I guess I should try and keep my Lord Arcanum close by to the frontlines?

Both the Castellant and the Relictor seem really cool and its hard to decide on either to be honest.

And are Castas really that bad? I have a group of 5 that I can maybe proxy as Judicators instead. Or I can take all of them out and see if I can squeeze in another hero. What do you think?

And lastly, its a 1.5k game, but with 2 battlelines, but I guess 5 libs, 5 seqs, 10 seqs would be the best solution for battleline? Could perhaps proxy 5 libs as seqs or vica versa?

And actually the last thing: Thanks for the help!

    54 minutes ago, Maturin said:

It would be better to run your liberators 2x10 so they have some staying power. A 5 man unit is easily destroyed. Use a castellan, and try to keep them wholly within 9 inch of him so they benefit from a +1 to their save from his aura, that will make them more resilient!

Wish I had another set of Libs, but only have the 5. I guess my battleline will be 5 Libs, 5 Seqs, 10 seqs. I could support the libs more with heroes perhaps? Or could just proxy 5 seqs as 5 libs or vica versa?

    Thanks for your help!

  20. Hey everyone,

I have my first sort of "real" game coming on Friday - Just a friendly with a friend who is playing the Old Dark Elves with their compendium and witch elves, executioners etc etc).

It's a 1500 point game and I'm using mostly stuff from the Tempest of Souls and Soul Wars boxes, with some extra liberators that I bought. So the list is pretty firm in terms of 90% of the points because that's all I have really. However, we can use proxies and as I have 3 Knight Incantors (2 from the boxes and one from the getting started magazine), I thought about what would be good to proxy as potentially.

Also, I really have no idea in terms of what stormhost, command traits, artefacts and spells to take (Oh and the mount trait), but I gave it a try and came up with this:

    Stormhost - Hammers of Sigmar

    Leaders:

Lord Arc. on Gryph Charger - General
    - CT: We cannot fail
    - Art. : God-forged blade
    - Spell: Azyrite Halo
    - Mount Trait (I have no idea)

    Knight Incantor
    - Spell: Stormcaller

    3rd Leader (I thought about a Lord-Castellant? or a Lord Relictor?)

    Units:

    5  Liberators

15 Sequitors (can be split into 2 or 3 groups also I guess)

    5 Evocators
    - Spell: Speed of Lightning (Can Evos take something from the LoI? 1d4chan says so, but the Warscrolsl doesn't say anything)

3-6 Castigators (depends on if I take this 3rd Hero or not)

    War Machines:

    Celestar Ballista

    Celestar Ballista

Any information how I could approach this would be great! Not sure how the Dark Elves play, but I hear that the Executioners just tear things to shreds, so my initial idea was to focus on save rolls and healing potentially.

    Thanks for any help!

In summary, the gravesites have been Errata'd so that each is able to trigger D3 wounds back to a SUMMONABLE unit every turn - so that's potentially 4D3 each turn.  Previously the wording was such that you could only pick 1 gravesite each turn.

Because it wasn't answered in the FAQ it appears that you cannot include any battalions within a Legion of Grief army (as they do not have the Legion of Grief keyword and the army doesn't have a special rule to cater for this).

    Great, thanks for the info!

Really strange they didn't FAQ it, as it seems like the kind of thing that people would most likely wonder about.
