White dwarf battalions are legal again, including the dolorous guard, which were mentioned earlier in the thread as a fantastic bodyguard for your general and cheap enough to fit into the allies allotment of a 2k point list.  Could be a saving grace for VLoZD in a post-ethereal-amulet world.  Also nice for anyone who wants to run mortarchs in LoN.

That's super cool actually. A question regarding allied-in battalions, do they still grant a CP and an extra artifact?

  2. Also won a game yesterday!

GHoN vs Seraphon (Stegadon spam list + Kroak)

Won the objective game T4 because he just couldn't deal with 40x Chainrasps that kept coming back.
Nagash survived with 3 HP due to some unlucky dice rolling from my opponent. Almost killed him T1.

    Hey guys,

so ive just got my hands on 240 chainrasps. Not a nighthaunt player but has anyone ever played a list flooding the board with Chainrasp horde before?

In theory it sounds really really fun to run some crazy The Condemned list with maxed out units, throwing in some extra GoSs, Chainghasts, using both Chainrasps as tarpit and damage dealer. No idea if it would work or not, movement phase would be an absolute drag though, haha..

  4. My vote goes for one D3 rolled, each unit takes that damage.

This is of course based on my own opinion, but because other rules specify ‘roll a dice for each terrain feature’ (Volcanic) or ’roll a dice for each enemy unit’ (Storm Breath).

Other examples would also include Lady Olynder’s Wail of the Damned. This further cements that if ‘roll a dice for each enemy unit’ isn’t mentioned, then there’s only one dice to be rolled.

Great to hear on the win. On another note, I love the look for your army. What was your scheme?

    Thanks mate!
It's really just a ton of thinned down hexwraith flame, that's the theme. :P

  6. Managed to grab another win today! This time it was versus Seraphon, a really wonky magic focused list with Kroak.

I gave him the first turn, which after his hero phase felt like a major mistake, however I really didnt want to get double turned.

A grand total of 20 MWs went through in his Hero Phase. My general died, several SHs and Black Coach was down to like 2 Wounds.

It looked stupid, but that was essentially all his list did. Barely anything in shooting, and nothing in combat.

So all deep striking (Lady O, 10 Chainrasps and the 30 Grimghasts) spread out over two objectives - while the SHs sat in the middle and the 40 Rasps + GoS on another one.

    6 VP(NH) vs 2 VP (Seraphon)

I didnt get the double turn. Thought I was screwed at this point. He made a crazy Lord Arcanum combo with Purple Sun and 8 CP. It moved over 40 Rasps, 6 SHs and 30 Reapers. However it totally flunked and killed a total of like 5 models, none of which were SHs.
Reikenor managed a cheeky move + charge and pile-in move which got me a 5th point in the second round.

Once it was my turn, I had all objectives. Thats another 8 VP, and the next turn again he just couldnt get me off them as I could the double. 8 VP again.

At this point, Round 3, I had like 22 or 24 points, versus his like 6 points or something, so it was pretty much over.

We sure suck at fighting compared to most, but out flexible deep strike and fast moving models make us really good at the objective game.

    easy peasy lemon squeezy!

I like this list. It's similar to the one I am tooling, but with DG instead of Reapers. (Reddit seems to think we'll get our WD battalions validated in the FAQ)

Don't be afraid to put Reik in combat positions. Not to engage, but if you can manage to snuff a candle on an enemy unit every turn after the first then his value increases. If you can snipe a hero or a banner-carrier normie from a unit then that value is immense. I like giving him Lifestealer to heal himself so you can feel more confident bringing him in range.

Somewhat the same with Kurdoss. His CP steal can be nice, especially if your opponent was really counting on that CP, but his real function is to accompany a unit that's targeting the enemy general. A single combat round is about all you can expect from him, but if you do some damage and soak the hits then there is his value. Personally, I bench him.

Indeed I think you've got the right idea of how to use Reikenor actually, I'll give it a try next NH game I play, for sure. I didn't play DG as it is currently "up in the air" if it can be used or not, but if it gets confirmed I will def roll a list with DG too. If only Hexwraiths had Reaped like Corn I would be all over 2x 10 man units. For now I guess 2x 5 man units is the way to go.

Anyways, on a side note I will be giving this list a run on Sunday vs Ironjawz. Could be cool, could be ******, who knows. Might as well give it a go. :)image.png.b318abf1de9af888fb6a5ec4ec5ae43d.png

Good News Everybody GIFs | Tenor

Managed to win today vs Ironjawz with the above list!
Mawkrusha, Warchanter, Weirdnob, 2x units of 3 Gore Gruntas, 2x units of 15 Ardboyz, 1x unit of 10 Brutes.

It was an extremely convicing win after battle round 3. The Spirit Host blob + Spirit Torment is an absolute beast, especially if you got Black Coach in range to help with the refilling in the Hero Phase.
This little blob managed to wipe 3x Goregruntas and 15x Ardboyz while holding the objective - 0 wounds lost (after resummoning with ST and BC, and healing with ST).

Kurdoss didn't manage to bring a single CP my way, however the "Commanding" terrain feature ended up in my deployment zone, so I scored an extra CP from there. He tried to battle 1v1 versus their general, i.e. the Maw Krusha, but did a measly 3 wounds. However he also didn't die on the swingback, which was cool.

Grimghast Reapers didn't do much killing, however they did deep strike in T2 and easily stole the enemy territory objective while also killing his Warchanter and Weirdboy who had fallen behind. I'm sure I could've used these in a better way, but in terms of VP they certainly did their job.

Chainrasps got smacked by the majority of the enemy force, 15x Ardboyz, 10x Brutes and 3x Gore Gruntas. They managed to hold all of these in combat for 2 BRs, so I guess they did their job. This is most likely where I should've deep struck the Grimghast + KoSES, however there wasn't enough room for me to deep strike and secure majority on the objective if I had failed the charge, so thats why I ended up in the deep back line instead. I think it was the right choice, as it got me a whole lot more VP in the end. Failing the charge would've left me with 0 VP and most likely a scewed fight.

So once my BR3 was done, all he had left was 10 Brutes and the Maw Krusha, so he promptly conceded as my VP lead was huge due to me solely focusing on objectives rather than fighting (which is quite different to how I have usually played my NH, which is a bit dumb, haha..).

Super happy that NH can still hold their ground, albeit it was quite a good matchup for me.
Was the opponent a shooty or magic focused list, this game would've been a lot different. Thankful that some factions still are very melee focused, hehe..

EDIT: What would I change? Well I think Reikenor did a ****** job. He was really only there to cast Soul Cage, which he did, but it didn't make much of a difference either way had it not gone off. I would replace him.  Same goes for Kurdoss. 180 pts, didn't even get me a CP, barely scratched the enemy General. The rest did their job. A batallion would be neat, it kind of sucks to not have any +cast on the GoS.

  9. Managed to win with GHoN last week versus an Arkhan OBR Mortek spam list. Was positively surprised! GHoN definitely still packs a punch.

We played Total Conquest I believe it's called, I don't quite recall the name. 4 objectives. +1 VP if you took it from the enemy. +1 VP if you have a leader on it.

We played in the realm of Aqshy, so the Fireball (D6 MWs on units of 10+ models) was super tasty versus Mortek Guard. Command Points was obviously an issue, the "Commanding" terrain feature was rolled, but it was on a terrain piece super far away from Nagash.. So I ended up only using CP for Nagash's command ability.

Ended up positioning my Gravestones so one Objective had 3 in range of it when I had a big blob of Grimghast there. That combined with the Necro, turned out to be absolutely crazy. He challenged that objective with a unit of 20 Morteks and some mounted Leader. The Grimghast just wouldn't die thanks to 4D3 rolls of regen every turn, plus Nagash's flat 3W regen.

Chainrasps proved extremely viable versus the Mortek, absolutely slapping a unit of 20 (with the sneaky help of Nagash's 2" and 3" attack from behind them.. that might have helped a bit, hehe).

Dire Wolves tried to do their thing, and I guess they succeeded to some degree - managed to snag me a total of 3 VP during the game.

All in all, super happy with the performance of the list.image.png.bc5e4f9c314c65a2b4773ac8dd0260b0.png

I think I'd definitely, no hesitation, would go with Harridans when up against armies that don't have 10 Bravery. At that point the -1 hit aura just becomes absolutely insane. Imagine getting both the Harridans and Mourngul into combat. -2 hit.. wow.

But indeed, you make great points here. I think it's definitely a strong choice against most armies today.

  11. Monsterous Arcanum (?) has a print date of March 2020, and the GHB20 has a print date of June 2020, so GHB20 overrules the PDF that they uploaded yesterday.

Anyways, on a side note I will be giving this list a run on Sunday vs Ironjawz. Could be cool, could be ******, who knows. Might as well give it a go. :)image.png.b318abf1de9af888fb6a5ec4ec5ae43d.png

Next up if this feels like ****** will be Enix list, but I guess replacing the 10x Chainrasps that tag along Olynder with 3x Spirit Hosts perhaps, still haven't really looked into what to do with the extra points.. It's around the same damage provided that all of the Chainrasps can fight, but instead the damage has a chance of becoming Mortals instead of normal Wounds, and Battleshock will never be an issue.

  12. thanks guys, that's all the convincing I needed. This sunday the 40x Chainrasps get to see the light of day!

    Skeletons = trveness

    bedsheets = abomination

Otherwise you assessment sums it up pretty good. The cursed bedsheets are also more durable with an ethereal 5+ save, while skellis only have a 5+ against non rend attacks and no save against any rend...

Skellies are just not the force they once were. I've been replacing them slowly with Chainrasps, which I feel nowadays are just better in every way, including on the offensive.

  13. Allegiance: Grand Host of Nagash
    LEADERS
Nagash Supreme Lord of the Undead (880)
    - General
    Necromancer (130)
    Vampire Lord (140)
    - Flying Horror
    UNITS
    40 x Skeleton Warriors (280)
    - Ancient Spears
    5 x Dire Wolves (70)
    5 x Dire Wolves (70)
    30 x Grimghast Reapers (420)
    TOTAL: 1990/2000

So I've definitely decided on the above list. Reapers just have so much more synergy compared to Morghasts.
There are two things I will swap around though to get a feeling of what's best for me.

First one being Skeleton Warriors vs Chainrasp Horde.
Skeleton Warriors can provide quite a punch with their Spears. However Chainrasps are more mobile and have a better unrendable save.

Second one being Vampire Lord vs another Necromancer.
The Vampire Lord +1 atk CA costs a whopping 1 CP. This is fairly expensive for an army that neither generates CP outside of normal means, and doesn't have any extra. I might want to save this CP for either a ressurection, or a battleshock test.
Being able to still cast the "fight again" spell from a Necro even if I lose one might be quite big, especially if it results in me ressurecting the Reapers for 1 CP and getting a "fight again" cast off on them.

    Thoughts?

Meanwhile, I have been experimenting with the Dolorous Guard elsewhere (Legion of Blood), because a very tough Olynder is scary, sure, but a Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon with 20 wounds of Hexwraiths around is even scarier... this battalion is phenomenal for Death in general, coming in at exactly 400 pts worth of allies... again, is somehow sad that the best bits of the Nighthaunts often work much better in some other splinter of the Death GA.

I'm sorry, I was under the impression that Dolorous Guard was a Nighthaunt only Batallion, and I can't see an option to add Batallions from other allegiances into a list? Sounds cool, but I'm unsure if this actually works?

  15. Thoughts on this LoG list? Two huge tarpits with mediocre killing power, two crazy hammers - with the ability to reroll hits on both (due to reapers inherit ability, and the chainghast for the revenants), and the ability to hit twice with whoever a Necro can reach. Combine it with the Dreadblade Leader who can teleport to a appropriate gravesite and ressurect a unit. Dire Wolves for some extra objective grabbing in those battleplans where there's a ton of them.

Thoughts so far: Spirit Torment for supporting the Chainrasps. Possibly replace with something else.

    Allegiance: Legion of Grief
    LEADERS
    Necromancer (130)
    Necromancer (130)
    Dreadblade Harrow (90)
    - General
    Spirit Torment (120)
    UNITS
    40 x Skeleton Warriors (280)
    - Ancient Spears
    5 x Dire Wolves (70)
    5 x Dire Wolves (70)
    40 x Chainrasp Horde (280)
    30 x Grimghast Reapers (420)
    20 x Bladegheist Revenants (320)
    2 x Chainghasts (70)
TOTAL: 1980/2000 EXTRA COMMAND POINTS: 0 WOUNDS: 174

  16. Aww, reading here makes me a bit sad - I was hoping that GHoN was still quite competitive with Nagash in it..
C&C this list, please - I was hoping of running it when I've finished painting the last Dire Wolves.

    Allegiance: Grand Host of Nagash
    LEADERS
Nagash Supreme Lord of the Undead (880)
    - General
    Necromancer (130)
    Vampire Lord (140)

    5 x Dire Wolves (70)
    5 x Dire Wolves (70)
    4 x Morghast Archai (420)
    - Spirit Halberds

Can nighthaunt (or anything really these days :p) be played with less than 80 models?

I'm really enjoying the following list:

    Allegiance: Nighthaunt
     - Mortal Realm: Hysh

    LEADERS
    Dreadblade Harrow (90)
    - General
    - Command Trait : Ruler of the Spirit Hosts
    - Artefact : Aetherquartz Brooch
    Dreadblade Harrow (90)
    - Artefact : Pendant of the Fell Wind
Lady Olynder, Mortarch of Grief (220)
    - Lore of the Underworlds : Shademist
Kurdoss Valentian, the Craven King (200)

    UNITS
    10 x Hexwraiths (280)
    10 x Hexwraiths (280)
    9 x Spirit Hosts (360)

    BEHEMOTHS
    Black Coach (260)

    BATTALIONS
    Deathriders (130)

ENDLESS SPELLS / TERRAIN / COMMAND POINTS
    Chronomantic Cogs (80)

TOTAL: 1990/2000 EXTRA COMMAND POINTS: 1 WOUNDS: 103
    LEADERS: 4/6 BATTLELINES: 3 (3+) BEHEMOTHS: 1/4 ARTILLERY: 0/4
    ARTEFACTS: 2/2 ALLIES: 0/400

An argument can be made if the Dreadblade with RotSH or Olynder should be General.

The Harrow's movement ability and spectral summons both state begining of move phase; since its your turn you choose the order. So yes.

Doesn't the Harrow's ability only state that a "check" is done at the beginning of movement, but the actual teleport happens when you're supposed to do a normal move?

If this model is more than 3" from any enemy models at the start of your movement phase, instead of making a normal move, you can remove it from the battlefield and then set it up anywhere on the battlefield more than 9" from any enemy models
