  1. Thank you both.

had a frustrating game this evening losing 11 ungor raiders to battle shock and 18 gors to one gyro bomber flyover. Lost my beast lord first turn too the. Rolled a 1 for the spawn. In a 500 point game, those outcomes were pretty devastating.

can you summon using primordial call points when you have no general?

  2. Ok, I've got some newbie questions.

    1. How many spawns for a gavespawn, two beastlord list? I've got two, but I feel like there is a small chance I may one day need three?

    2. Objective holding summon unit? 3 points ungor/spawn, 4 points gor, 6 points bgor. The big 10 for my ghorgon. But I'm looking at 5 points - a fast objective holder. Cockatrice v centigors. Both fast, 5v1 model count, flying. Any thoughts on this?

    3. Is the desolating herd worth it at 150 points? I'm working on a 1990 list ATM. So I could afford another 20 raiders with 160 points. I know it depends on game and style. But the extra hits for a 6 just don't seem worth 150 points. Please tell me I'm wrong BC I'm already in the process of painting 120 of these things!!

  3. I've finally caught up with this thread.

Imho, I agree w Ganigumo on ungors v gors. Having just built 120 ungors, I would. But I have to say, they are amazing. You can't get the poses wrong - they're hilarious. I love them. That one confused head is an absolute gem. Made me laugh every time I'd finished building. Fantastic.

But gors too, these models are absolutely beautiful. I haven't done any conversions except for the ghorgon. So I've got 206 models as they come. But they look fantastic. I'm absolutely delighted. Underpainted only so far. I need a final coat of white and then in with the browns.

Sorry, this is turning into a diary entry now. Just wanted to share, if anyone is unsure whether to dive in and spend/build this army, do it! Imo, beautiful models - the best. I'm delighted to have made the leap.

My only issue is originality - pushing a new idea. I'm a bit dry ATM. I'm going to paint them a variety of skin colours. Unified jungle bases. So my idea - the herdstone - I've bought Vallejo space dust airbrush colours. Anyone tried this? I'm torn between, this could be a great new magical way of representing the stone and... this will look like a karaoke microphone.

    Any thoughts?

I should say, thank you to all you experienced players who have helped shape my idea of what I want to do on this thread. I'm totally happy and excited to be building this army and I'm confident that my direction in build represents exactly how I want to play because of all the advice.

  4. "Hi Sam24, welcome to the Beasts of Chaos Herd! "

Thanks Dolomedes! And thank you for this phenomenally detailed advice. Brilliant idea with Gashrak. I've actually been trying really hard to get a 200+ model BoC army. Though I've now learnt that Gavespawn is pretty much a must which means I need as many heroes as possible. This inevitably lowers my ability to get bodies on the paint table. I had been searching high and low for a Balewind Vortex, so I understand the issue but love the idea.

Below is my current plan. I've bought everything that is currently available (no ungors or ungor raiders as yet). I did get a start collecting box, so I have built a fantastic ghorgon. But he will be for summoning. Expensive in PCP's and unlikely I realise. But as I said before, I'm going for high model count for the run on team.

So this isn't a list that will excite anyone - no new ingenuity, but I'd appreciate feedback from those who have the experience of having played it. The idea is to ambush the shooters taking advantage of the desolating beastherd buffs. Run up from the front with the rest and hold those objectives as long as possible. It's pretty close to the lists I've been reading about around pages 140 ish.

    LEADERS

    10 x Ungors (60) - Mauls & Half-Shields

  5. Hello to the BoC community. I've been working through all these pages to get a grip on how my list is going to work or not. I'm almost finished with the reading. But one thing I havent seen the answer to from this is the following:

With the headstone ability in sac d3 models gain that many PCP's... I'm thinking I need a unit of ten ungors to stay within 3" and a hero too. Am I right? Or is it possible to use another more active unit from your army to not only sacrifice from but that can also carry out other function simultaneously.

    I'm a BoC virgin FYI

Have you considered playing them in Living City?  They get drastically better particularly as that's a build similar to mine.

EG are good and could surprise people but they cost a lot for their points costs.  IF they were still 80 points sure,.. maybe but at their costs they are a good choice.

Yes I'm looking at that now. I was using a few spellweavers to heal up EG backed up with SOTW. Pretty basic plan.

So, if I go for hallowheart, I can do the same with sorcerous' at d6 wounds rather than d3?! I'll take it.

I should say that I play against a friend who is playing bretonnia knights. So his options are even more limited than pure wanderers!!

  7. I play a wanderers list just for fun. Enjoy it very much. Essentially eternal guard backed up by sotw. But are the eternal guard not a bit OP? H/W/S ON 2/3/3.?!?! This is with the bonus of no move, but per turn. As long as you don't pile in, you don't move on your opponents turn. Two attacks each on twos and threes, too much no?

The correct base size for the King on Hippogryph is a 60 mm round. There is no official document for this, but GW showed it on this base size as the King was available as "Made to Order" in 2018.

No, it's not allowed. Command traits and artefacts don't work on a mount.

Thank you so much for all the clarification!

I've just re-based on this advice and it looks so much better. Before it looked like he was in a bloody boat.

Makes sense on the artefact. I might still do that on the sly though!

Bases and models now ready for under painting !

    Thank you

it's correct use it as a great opportunity to do some dramatic basing. Hysh army has crystals, dead body of stormcast, whatever. for  a comparison look at the gortrek mini small model BIG base

Thanks for the confirmation. I've seen it online on a much smaller base and I just feel that's too much or an advantage. I love basing so I'll go with you and go big!

Also, can I put the legendary fighter artefact on the griffons beak?! (On the subject of OP)

  10. Hello, looking for help - I'm building a bretonnia army. On the bases. For the king on hippogryph I have the old griffon looking creature with a claw up and the king on top. Smallish model. AOS base sizes are saying to me I need a 105x70 base - that is so big in comparison to the model! Is this correct?! Should I just get a more realistic size given the model I've got. I find the stats a bit OP as it is, if I get a small base, I feel that makes this model even more OP in combat.

    Any advice?!?!

Upset isn't even the word, such a kick in the teeth.

People will try and put a positive spin on this and/or play it down by trying to claim it's "justified" but i'd be very interested to see the amount of models you actually have.

Won't be making any purchases for a long while, wouldn't have bought Warcry if I knew this was going to happen either.

Got to say I agree. I'm not happy about this. I'm very much Tolkien style. I was actually thinking about doing a dispossessed army as well as wanderers.

To give new points values a couple months ago thereby indicating everything has a future, only to do this. Not happy.

Although, I should admit, I don't really know what this all means. Surely they can't withdraw anything? Therefore, all current combinations should remain playable regardless of what happens?

Most of all I'd love to see the Wild Riders get fixed though, and this quote from

If Wild Riders can be true shock cavalry again and stop "[hitting] like a wet fish" (as one of GW's newer rules writers acknowledged), that would be amazing!

Thanks man. I really love the wild rider models. Not a fan of the gushing hair on the riders, bit the deer are fantastic. I hope they get the treatment this Sam chap is intimating they might.

I think that Waywatcher and Glade guard are safe. Waywatchers were featured in AoS 2.0 preview with their -2 to hit with look out sir. Glade Guard although old have had the AoS rebrand and the circular bases.

I would suspect something like Reavers, High Warden or the Swordmaster might be in danger as they are no longer available (you can still get swordmaster fine cast, but no banner or musician or leader). Or maybe some of the older fine cast models.

However our metal range might be in danger, I only hope they replace it with something good.

Ok thanks for the reassurance. If glade guard are safe I'm happy. I also really hope the waywatcher stays.

I just can't see a cities book appealing to me in any way - I don't see myself allying in other factions to the wanderers. I've got my eldritch council dragon and that's all I want. Factions are so distinctive in style, I don't think I would mix them.

With the rest of the living city forces, Sylvaneth and Collegiate Arcane.  I just think it's an image of the city, I don't think it will cover Wanderers as an alligence ability or updated warscroll. This is however just my opinion.

So do you think they will knock glade guard and waywatcher to 'legend' status? I wish they could just tell us now. I'm about to paint some sisters of the watch. But if they are about to be deleted, I wouldn't bother.

I wouldn't mind new GG sculpts, but we have to have a basic archer unit that outperforms other basic archer units. Arcane Bodkins are a great ability, but smaller units with better to hit or range would be an improvement. I agree the GG models are old, I kit bashed all 80+ of my Glade Guard.

Are you saying the models will be replaced but the unit (glade guard) still available to play with? I painted 30 of these and it was paintful. Also, they are one of only two battleline units. If wanderers lose GG or WW/WF, I'll be devastated.

    • Thanks 2
  16. Thanks awcamawn for your feedback. Much appreciated. Endless spells aren't great are they. 50 points for maybe being able to heal D3 wounds... How can that possibly ever be worth it. Themeatically it goes great. And I have the model, so that is my deal. But it's not my ideal situation.

  17. Hello all, I've been reading along in the shadows. Great reading - thanks for all the comments which for me is guidance. Here is my list with the points changes taken into account. Decisions based partly on the models I like and because I've been building this up for almost two years and I'd like to get it finished soon.

     Allegiance: Wanderers
    LEADERS
    Archmage on Dragon (320)
    - Magestaff
    - Allies
    Nomad Prince (80)
    - General
    - Command Trait : Stalker of the Hidden Paths
    - Artefact : Obstinate Blade
    Spellweaver (100)
    - Heartwood Staff
    Waywatcher (120)
    Waywatcher (120)
    Waystrider (80)
    - Artefact : Relic Blade
    UNITS
    10 x Eternal Guard (70)
    10 x Eternal Guard (70)
    30 x Glade Guard (360)
    10 x Sisters of the Watch (160)
    5 x Sisters of the Thorn (210)
    5 x Wild Riders (100)
    BATTALIONS
    Waystone Pathfinders (160)
    ENDLESS SPELLS / TERRAIN
    Emerald Lifeswarm (50)

What do you think. Not super competitive but it'll be fun to play with?

    Sam
