I must say, I found it pretty funny how they keep repeating that yes, these aren't core factions and won't get support. I almost expected a final "and don't buy AoS minis for these!" lol

But at least this helps me personally, by making the list of choices smaller. So TGA, as a chorf lover wanting to start a new army, should I get Dwarfs (for the Dwarf aspect of Chorfs) or Chaos (for the chaos aspect of Chorfs)?

Just do Chaos Dwarfs, that's what I'm doing :D . Chaos Dwarfs have always been the army that you had to work to get built up on the fringes of support, so this changes nothing. Unless you're planning on attending any GW events, most indy events already said legacy will be allowed and the general community sentiment seems to be just treat them as any other army.

If it's models you're worried about, you could always Chaos-ify some Dwarfs or get some 3rd party if you don't want to source the minis. I'm a Chorf lover, and I'm lucky in that I already had an existing 6th edition and Azgorh army I've built up from official models over the years, so I know I'm an outlier but there's plenty of other options available until the AoS Chorfs come out.

  2. The Chaos Dwarf list is amazing! I'm so happy with it. It's rare that GW actually gives us BACK things. They've returned units that were missing in the Azgorh list. Black Orcs, Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers, and Sneaky Gitz have all returned. Also the description for Infernal Guard suggests they also just represent "regular" Chaos Dwarf warriors now and not just Azgorh specific units. I can't understate how excited I am. Feels like a "complete" Chaos Dwarf army.

From The Honest Wargamer today's stream:

    - Snarlfang riders were intended for TOW  but ended up in AoS somehow.

    - BoC are very likely to be removed from AoS at some point.

Every edition since AoS 1.0 we'd had rumors saying Beasts of Chaos are being removed from AoS. There's been a rumor of them being removed every year since Beastmen were split off as their own faction in Fantasy. I think this a meme now lol

  5. As someone who likes the old sculpts and been trying to collect Tomb Kings and Bretonnia for the past few years, I am perfectly fine with these prices over how much they go for on secondary markets, used most of the time even. A few months back I gave up on getting a Necrosphinx and the Stalkers cause the cheapest were double this price and already half-painted or missing bitz. So I'm excited to actually get these at least somewhat sane prices NIB lol

  6. In terms of interest, at my store me and a buddy have been building a community for it. We've been lending out our armies to aos folk who never played fantasy but were interested cause they got the models and older gamers who haven't played in years. We've been playing 4th-8th in anticipation the last 8~ months. All told we've got about 8-10 people and a good mix of armies ready for day 1 games even Chaos Dwarfs (me :D). About half are getting the new army boxes, mostly the new players and me. Rest just the books.

  7. During the Twitch live-stream they kept saying "The Legions of Hashut" almost like a name. He said "Hashut was - or maybe still is - the god of the Chaos Dwarfs or the Legions of Hashut" and that the Horns of Hashut seek out places for his legion to exploit/attack and then bring "The Legions of Hashut with us to cleanse the land". I really don't have a doubt at this point we're getting a Hashut army with at least some Chaos Dwarfs. Just wonder if they're going to have bull helmets like these guys or if its going to be a Hashut army in general with different followers and not just Chaos Dwarfs.

Sadly not specifically. He doesn’t tell us what he has playtested but has said 3 Idoneth and 2 Fyreslayer, but not specifically what. I would assume the other rumours about Eldar and Chaos releases (7 for Chaos and 11-13 for Eldar) to be accurate for 40K.

So do you know if he was referring to models or warscrolls? Because if warscrolls, I could see the 2 Fyreslayer being the new hero that comes in the battlebox with Idoneth, and then just a new warscroll for rider-less Magmadroths. Similar to Royal Terrorgheists/Zombie Dragons and Skitterstrand Arachnaroks and then the Magmadroth-focused hold allowing them to be battleline.

    • Ogors Summer.
    • Nighthaunts October
    • GSG vs S2D Christmas Battlebox: S2D with BoC (new kits!)
    • Malerion Q1 2023

    --------------------

    • First 2023 Battlebox: Skavens vs Serpahons. Not classic Battlebox, they come with some new kits (?)
    • Battletome Priority: Khorne, Lumineth, Sylvaneth and CoS
    • Something for Silent People (?)

    Sentiend Roach Swarms (this week)?

Looks like a mix of junk and believable guesses mixed with a couple existing rumors from here and elsewhere to make it seem legitimate. I guess we'll see if we see sentient roach swarms this week, but that sounds like exactly the kind of out of left field thing you'd make up to make people think its so crazy it has to be real.

  10. 4 hours ago, Clan's Cynic said:

I'd love this to be true, but it feels more likely they just want to get the two remaining 1.0 Tomes out of the way and the rumour is just a coincidence. I do hope I'm wrong though.

Well, the big hint about an Idoneth vs Fyreslayer box was given by Whitefang and he also seemed to hint at a new character for each like the other boxed sets, so its probably that.

  11. 10 hours ago, Whitefang said:

    Unfortunately that’s a flat no.

Yeah, I thought not. Your comment just sounded like you meant the spider guys specifically weren't chaos dwarfs but... there's another warband or something along those lines. In that case though, what did you mean? Hmmm...

I don't think Chaos Dwarfs are gonna be snuck into Warcry or Underworlds with little fanfare. I'm pretty sure they're gonna be teased big in their own video way in advance, probably months out with a voice over and a little art tease like they usually do and be a main attraction and not part of another thing.

  12. 4 hours ago, Whitefang said:

    They may be not, but...

Wait is that suggesting the enemy warband is Chaos Dwarfs? I really would have thought if it was Chaos Dwarfs they would have made a bigger deal. A spider warband is cool and everything, but I would have thought the "Return of the Chaos Dwarfs" would have been a bigger WOAH factor for the previews or at least already hinted at. Unless you're just saying that terrain in the video was made by Chaos Dwarfs lol

Since this seems to have some validity to it, "They are the best yes yes" seems to indicate Skaven. Whitefang was hinting at new Clan Eshin models. Isn't the chief stronghold for Clan Eshin in Ulgu? Perhaps an Eshin themed warband?

So with the recent lore explosion with Andy Hall, CA just released a new roundtable article regarding Cathay for Total Warhammer 3:

    Cathay Roundtable

Now I'm shaking with hype already at the references by Andy to Ind, Tiger Warriors, the Monkey King, Monkey Warriors, Blood Nagas of Khuresh and even Nippon, but its also nice to see CA write this themselves.

With their stance that this game is going to get supported for YEARS, I truly believe that. I really think we'll eventually see so many more factions not really seen before, particularly visually.

Now obviously total warhammer is not directly connected to The Old World, it could point to hints that we will also see more of these factions head to the table top. The one that stands out to me is Nippon.

    Tinfoil hat time:

Both Andy and CA, referenced Nippon as an 'eastern human nation' alongside Dark Elves and the Jade Sea. Its pretty certain that this is Nippon, but the clear notion to not regard it as such, suggests that they are currently re-establishing the name at least.

Now, if Nippon wasn't going to be included on the map or even in game, there'd be no reason to even rename it right? I do think they'll be designing Nippon for Total Warhammer 3 just like Cathay, and I bet this would also mean a release for The Old World, and boy does that make me hyped. I really need some Warhammer Samurai in my life.

What do you all think, do you reckon we'll see more 'un-established' factions come to The Old World?

Maybe for Old World they'll finally release the Nippon guide they promised was under development since 3rd edition :Pimage.png.e2430c340a2eac51a7a648a994852b40.png

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, all the Chorf rumours coming out the same time Hobgrot lore talked about about them just feels like people were making educated guesses and trying to fulfil wishes based on there suddenly being Chaos Dwarf references that're more than a throwaway location on a map.

Similar to how all the "Dawnbringer Crusaders will be CoS 2.0!!!" faux-rumours started only after GW started putting out lore for them. If we'd seen any rumours/leaks emerge before the Dominion/3.0 lore reveals I'd put a lot more stock in them.

The closest thing to reliable we have is what Grimdark Live said, but their reliability - or at least, their 'leaker' - has been called into question by the Hobgrot cavalry claim, so right now I'm erring on the side of their claim that Chorfs are coming being in the educated guess category, same as the Dawnbringer/Malerion rumours. Also Grimdark Live's leaks came out, what, a week before Dominion was revealed anyway? Which does suggest it was more a grunt-on-the-ground who spied the contents than somebody well embedded like the big 40k leaker.

I still think Chaos Dwarfs will happen eventually - it's an obvious avenue to take in regards to fleshing out Chaos and appealing to nostalgia/memes that GW loves to do these days - but just like 'rumours' have been saying saying Malerion is just around the corner for the last four years I don't think we need to wipe the dust off the Chorf Plastics Savings Account just yet.

Those batch of rumors with Oathbreakers in it really messed things up because now they're being tossed in with actual rumors and muddying the waters. As far Chorfs go, besides Grimdark Live there's one more rumor that's not even a rumor but an outright slip-up that was deleted by the source (a reliable one too). It's been floating around a few private groups, but its hard to say what it is without directly implicating anyone. Suffice to say it made me personally believe Chorfs are on the horizon and their own tome even. There's also the new rumor of Chorfs next year from Warhammer Weekly a couple weeks ago, though I'm not sure if that's a real rumor or parroting the Oathbreaker ones. However, they did say next year which would line up with the rumor I'm talking about.

Edit: This is the one from Warhammer Weekly at 12:30. It's basically them saying a Malerion campaign next summer with Dwarfs and Chaos Dwarfs involved. Notably he doesn't call them Oathbreakers or Umbraneth like the false rumors and next summer wouldn't line up either so this could be considered separate from that rumor. Again those fake rumors have things we're expecting anyway, which makes it easy to also immediately dismiss anything that reference the things in them. However, this rumor is different enough it could be considered its own I'd say.

So back on track: in that case, are we going to see a new gloomspite spider rider unit released for warcry? Like actual new plastic spiders and riders, with a boss?

Or is the entire next expansion based on this "spider" theme? Are there any old world chaos gods that were associated with spiders?? Who'd the Chaos Dwarves worship anyhow? Could the rumored chaos dwarves army actually be a warry relase?

I was thinking new Spiderfang, but I don't know about that. I get the feeling its actually going to be some new type of spiders, like not even a faction but roaming monsters like the chaos chickens and furies. I personally think Red Harvest is a new boxed set similar to catacombs with two factions and then new Chaos-themed spider creatures to act as roaming monsters.

The Chaos Dwarfs worship Hashut, Father of Darkness, who is bull-themed. Hence Bull Centaurs and the horn motifs. In the new Orruk Warclans battletome it specifically says they still worship Hashut, so doubt they're going to have anything to do with the spiders. Maybe they could be a new Warcry faction ahead of their tome though, but I honestly expect when they get revealed its going to be a big deal with a teaser and everything, not just a Warcry faction thrown in when they're already hyping up spiders.

  17. Haven't read the whole tome yet, but from reviews looks like numerous more Chaos Dwarf references in the new tome. I was afraid they were gonna retcon Hashut, but the new tome specifically calls them "Hashut-worshipping duardin". We also get a named conflict between the Chaos Duardin and the Orruks called the "War of the Broken Promise" which is why they don't trade with Orruks, but the Hobgrots specifically. Though of course, the hobs are only getting cast-offs from exiles and low-quality blacksmiths, while the Chaos Duardin get the weak and sickly slaves in return, both thinking they're scamming the other.

Interesting how they're expanding Chaos Duardin lore through a whole different tome.

  18. A lot of people are newer to the hobby, started with AoS, or just didn't really go around internet message boards and have a life. However, all this Beasts of Chaos discussion about being squatted or rolled into StD or being un-Chaos'd is the same discussion that has been had since basically Beasts of Chaos got split off into their own faction in Fantasy. :P I remember people posting doom and gloom as far back as in 2005 because they only got Khornegors and Pestigors and were missing a plastic version of one of their core units. Each edition after would always bring back the "Oh Beasts are gone FOR SURE this time." They've just always been neglected, the only Chaos faction treated worse being of course Chaos Dwarfs.

I don't believe for a single second that they're A. Being squatted, B. Moving to Destruction or C. Being integrated into StD/dispersed among the Chaos factions. Renaming? Maybe. They did get renamed in 7th Edition as a faction to "Beastmen". But then they got reverted back to Beasts of Chaos afterward. For a good few years they were just "Beastmen" though, so a renaming, maybe but I doubt it. I don't see any sort of lore retcon happening either other than maybe how they were created which has also flip-flopped between editions army books/tomes too if I recall. I think if any big changes though, it'd just be a renaming and refocus on how their army plays. Though I expect army changes anyway as Beasts have had their Ambush rules changed with every single army book basically.

Bob over at War of Sigmar said Beasts soon, if he got that from Atia, Beasts are soon simple as. He also said he heard rumblings of a plastic Doombull but wasn't sure if it was for Underworlds or not.

Idk the tendrils look almost one for one with maulerfiends. Not to mention the little engine looking thing between the tendrils. Way too mechanical imo.

Do we have any solid basis to think Chorfs are even actually in the pipe other than us really wanting them and them being mentioned a lot in lore? I mean grottvag scuttlers still dong exist and kurnothi have actual models but no big release. Did I miss something?

Yes, two reasons actually. One, Grim Dark Live who were on the money about Dominion and the Kruleboyz completely including the name and units weeks in advance, said Chaos Dwarfs were coming sometime soon. The second reason I cannot share because it will actually get someone in trouble, but its something floating around a few groups that all but confirms it.

Also there's the Oathbreaker rumors, which I'm sad to say are totally fake. They were in the same batch that said GSG vs BoC boxed set and that the Grey Knights vs Thousand Sons boxed set had ALL new Grey Knights and not just the character.

I think it might be a new warpsmith for CSM.

I actually disagree. I 100% believe those rumors about the new CSM stuff, including the Warpsmith. And you'd think immediately Warpsmith because of the tentacles. However, look at that stone the hammer is made out of. That doesn't match the aesthetics of any CSM weapon. For example, you might say its a Thunder Hammer, but the Chaos Lord from BSF has a well-cut stone hammer. This looks more rough. The existing Warpsmiths don't have crude-looking weapons either. What exactly is that stone? You could say Blackstone, but what Blackstone do we know of that's so roughly hewn? Off the top of my head, the only CSM with crude looking stone weapons (not Blackstone even) like that are Death Guard and Plaguebearers, with their swords.

You know what does look similar to that type of stone? Warpstone looks similar when in Skaven weapons. But perhaps not Warpstone, but some other kind of realmstone? Say... the lore in Broken Realms about Archeon mining for Varanite? I think this may be Chaos Dwarfs, leaning more into the "Daemonsmith" aspect of their reimagining using Varanite to forge weapons.

Well I went back and looked and the account I was thinking of was deleted. So I can't say for sure other than it had a similar name. However, I can say if we get the Guard codex in Sep and DKoK Death Riders in plastic that will add validity to his other rumors, so not long before we see.
