I actually put my skaven purchases on hold until Eshin gets proper support. Its the year of the rat, so I have my fingers crossed for a big Skaven release wave.

both Skryre and Moulder could use a LOT of love...

personally I'd prefer to see some new material for moulder dudes like packmasters, master moulders, giant rats, rat ogres, swarms since I doubt we'll see another reprint of the Spire of Dawn/Island of Blood sprues, but at least Moulder can be practically played as a solo clan on the table, whereas Eshin has nearly nothing to work with aside from ancient metal/resin models

Turin is starting AoS, and when listening to him casting I think he is quite respectful of other people. There are problems on ladder, but people spamming op single entities isn't worse than people spamming Keepers.

yea, some of the people complaining about 'tw pc streamers/gamers' obviously have no clue what they're talking about. Turin (arguably the face of TW: Warhammer) is like the nicest, most positive dude ever, and has even started a Cities of Sigmar army. You also have friendly, nice guys like Loremaster of Sotek/Italian Spartacus/etc... , all inviting and good potentially ambassadors for any community. I  got into AoS because of that game, and am grateful for it.

the Total War community forum is a cesspit of idiots and likely young children, but its no worse than most of the Warhammer themed forums like Dakka Dakka/etc...

Yeah I’m not really a fan of it either, considering how the skaven really could use a sub faction or a battailon that is worth it’s points.
Considering  that we are in the year of the Rat and well, that the skaven haven’t gotten any replacement for their old, very old models, we might get lucky with a similar campaign book that features the rise of the great horned rat, and some duardin foe’s who seek to Take back what ones was their’s

imagine a book that Age of Sigmar'ed the War for K8P. Gloomspite vs Skaven vs Kharadron Overlords

Considering how Gw implies that this book is a must need for every chaos player,

but is missing the skaven part, must mean that the skaven will soon be their own thing.

    rumor confirmed🤪

I wouldn't mind if for organizational purposes, the Skaven were moved over to destruction. The horned Rat can be booted from the pantheon and get super salty at chaos.

that's the issue forcing all factions into one of four categories/alliances, it adds otherwise arbitrary restrictions to the lore

  5. Ideally, the lumineth battletome would include stats for some of the CoS aelf models as well, at least in the vein of the inclusion of KO in the CoS book.

Luckily, I'm confident my units of Swordmasters/Sea Guard from the Skaven/HE WFB starter should prove easy conversions into the lumineth style

  6. To throw in my two cents, I've played many different games and seen many rulesets come and go. The ephemeral nature of the rules means that whatever 'power' level a model has is fleeting, but your opinion/taste on the design of the model won't change. Therefore, the only metric I use to determine whether to buy a sculpt is whether I like how it looks individually and as part of my army.

(Oh no, that new site looks so confusing and too busy!)

But to the topic at hand:

Well, lads, lasses and enby pals, this is where I think my stop on the hype train comes. I wanted overly-emotional (Kin-strife! Kin-strife!) Silmarillion elves, not the arrogant and aloof LOTR elves! I am most likely hyperbolic right now, but this really feels like Eldar: AoS Edition with similar history, personality and both carry magic stones on them (albeit for different purposes, hahahah!). And nothing against Lumineth or Eldar - or anyone who wants more arrogant elves - but they aren't for me. The models are still cool and I'll gladly follow what kinds of Lumineth we'll still be teased with.

hmm, I could be totally misguided in this thinking since we don't have any other information on these guys, but I would argue that your army could still have tons of emotion, with the added tragedy that they are aware they will eventually lose all it. I'm guessing that each individual lumineth still has different levels of emotion similar to any other human, where some will be clearly more emotional than others

Maybe Teclis just isn't under as much pressure as Alarielle, or say Morathi, to present his divine form as a good looking young person with a take it or leave it approach to clothes.

    🤔

yea, and Teclis was always an ugly dude... maybe he just didn't care enough to change his facial structure due to his hubris? Either way, I'm sure he's packing some heat at least considering the sweats he's wearing

  9. So I personally enjoy how the game currently offers a multitude of different sized armies for everyones individual taste. I personally play mixed skaven because I enjoy having many options when building my lists, and would  dislike if they once again broke the skaven down into the individual clans. I have the models to play more focused Skaven builds if I wished, but having the full gamut of options helps me further differentiate my Skaven army from the next person (aside from the fact that we will all have a f-ton of clanrats!

however, for the newer players who seem to carry less attachment to their armies, constantly churning out low model option armies seems to be beneficial as it allows them a dynamic field from which to pick up new armies and streamlines their army build options.

I do think there will be a point where there are too many armies available as far as shelf space is concerned. Due to the time/money it takes to put together an army, it's much more difficult to just "trade in" your army for the next big hotness, especially when you've just finished painting/modeling/lore writing for your current army.

It's like a wonderful Poe's Law thing, where I legitimately can't tell if it's a real person, or if it's some forum regular making an alt account posting as satire.

honestly, I've come to the conclusion that Icegoat is some selfless lad who has offered himself as a sacrificial lamb by representing something so obnoxious and disliked that he brings the rest of the community closer together in our contempt.

I'm not saying WHFB models should have rules so bad they are a total joke.

More like if you have two equal skilled players and one is playing an old WHFB army and the other an army made for aos then the aos army should be better on paper.

Is it really good for the game that a new player to aos who picks up either Nighthaunt or Stormcast will soon discover they are far worse than ancient WHFB armies like cities of sigmar or skaven?

it sounds to me like you are new(ish) to the hobby and don't quite understand the appeal/ethos behind miniature wargames... were you, perchance, a magic/ccg player beforehand? Because your ideas wouldn't be out of place in such an environment, but are utterly ridiculous here.

I can't see GW releasing new warabands for all the factions all over again. Even if they could I'd rather those production slots went to actual AoS war models not another block of 5 or so characters. Would you rather see a new plastic Skyre Acolyte kit or a new band of 5 skaven rats.

Instead I'd hope that this is GW repackaging/releasing a combined rules deck - ergo retiring the universale cards and updating the core rules and giving those warbands fresh cards to play with on the tabletop. That would be the best move as it means all those forces remain current for all current and future gamers and also means that GW hasn't got to produce a whole slew of repeat warbands just to keep th game going. MTG does that, but that's purely cards and the whole system is different.

how about 5 skaven rats that functioned had 5 distinct models for WHU that could also function as generic Acolyte models? Or maybe 4  packmasters and a master moulder?

Building my first new model in a while- swallowed the bitter pill of the price and got the Verminlord, so I have until next Thursday to throw him together and get him at least a little painted.

congrats! I've got a moderate 2500pt + skaven force but still haven't picked up the Verminlord. The idea of putting him together is so daunting! May the blessing of the Great Horned Rat be with you in you endeavor

  14. Skryre can run Stormfiends as battleline, so you'd need a minimum of 9 models painted/3 units of 3 models  . Moulder can run Rat Ogres as battleline (so you'd need a minimum of 12 models painted, or 4 units of 3).

Skryre in particular can be run with relatively few models, throw in a couple warpire throwers/warplightning cannons/jezzails/ a screaming bell + grey seer as hq and you're good to go

Who in their right mind buys 90 grimghast reapers? Who in their right mind buys 90 of any one particular model?

Have zero sympathy for people who power game like this and then find their net list is no longer top tier.

Not saying you're one of these people but I really dislike it when people spam one unit just because it happens to be good at a particular point in time.

I have 120 models of clanrats and it's not because I'm netdecking or unit spamming. I just like the look of massive hordes of them and they help accentuate my larger setpiece skaven models. Also, painting the ****** has turned out to be rather therapeutic

Positively ancient, some from far away year of 2013 if one can imagine such faraway times ; ). Same time as Glottkin and the rest of large nurgle beasties, year older than such old things as Nagash and the Mortarchs [cool band name, to think of it...]

Sorry, just having a laugh, especially comparing it to the fact that the Skaven battletome had 20+ year old discontinued models actually *return* to the line. And beastmen still have THIS monstrosity availible in store :D

What discontinued skaven  models were returned with the Skaven tome? AFAIK, we lost the poison wind globadiers and gained the warlock bombadier

The BT CoS gave me a moral boost to keep on painting my High Elves. Really hoping i can play with all my toys in a single force.

Worried about the possibility of the Dragon Noble be removed from the line, but got a backup plan in case it happens.  Will use the 2 horses on my Dragon Blades, one as a really cool Standart Bearers the other as the leader.

I started High Elves with AoS, and i am super attached to then because of my depression. It keeps me from painting and as a result it takes me ages to get stuff done and it was a bummer to not be sure if the range was going away or not.

Took me a couple years to get here,  but now i have painted 2 phoenix, 2 dragons, archmage, loremaster, 20 Phoenix Guard,  4 Swordmasters, High Warden and now i managed to paint my first Dragon Blade (testing colors) and the result was cool. Looking foward to get the first 5 ready to go.

One day i will manage to get a full painted army on the table, but it feels good to be moving foward.

Honestly, any of the old high elf models that they remove you could easily still use as "counts as" for whatever similar outfitted units end up in the book (Spire of Dawn swordmasters of hoeth counting as empire greatswords, ellyrian reavers as whatever mounted cav ends up, etc...)

And it'll probably look better as a full army since you can keep the cone head high elf look for everyone

I don’t want to cover of my army book to be humans and Stormcast

... then glue a dwarf cutout on top of the zwei hander . or wait because precedent has shown that the dispossessed showing up in this tome doesn't preclude them from getting their own tome down the line. or just sell all your models and quit the game i guess, idk

I was waiting for a solo Clan Skryre book, but I got skaventide... yet it has all the good rules and lore I need for skryre. Just because it doesn't have an arch-warlock or pack of jezzails on the cover doesn't keep me from using the book that functionally does everything I need

Extremely dissapointed, but holding back rage until we see the actual book... 😑

There are scenarios I could see this working out but GW hasn't exactly inspired confidence with their last few books.

the Skaven, Slaanesh, Gloomspite Gits books were all phenomenal... I don't know what you're talking about.

And all this grumbling before any other details have been announced  is both very dwarfish and hilarious. Based on the  soup-tome design paradigm  set with BoC, Skaven, gloomspite there will be effective rules and options to play the dispossessed just as effectively alone as with other pro-sigmar oldworld folk. People are starting to make things up in their heads and get angry over nothing lol

  21. Clan Skyven: An Aeronautical themed Skaven  faction and the foil to Kharadron Overlords. Instead of the glistening metallics of the Ironclads, think gritty, dilapidated Hindenburgesque Zeppelins and a red barony, WW1 fighterpilot aesthetic complete with goggles/scarves/etc... and some of the more traditional gas mask donned skaven on the mounted aerial rattling guns. Rat Ogres parachuting down onto the enemy from above while Ace Fighter Skrizitch Notail cackles gleefully from above.

the name is terrible and I hope if we get something along this line for skaven that GW come up with a much better title for the clan
