  1. @Anthony225 Ahah thanks ! Your warband looks great, as expected ! Fjul and Tefk are magic, and giving Maegrim hammers is a very nice idea. Well done! I'm glad if you enjoyed this short Deck Guide I wrote and I really hope that you will play your Chosen Axes soon. To answer your questions : yeah I often play some of the newer cards from Wurmspat & Mantrappers. Mainly Team Effort (great end phase easy scoring glory) and Nightmare in the Shadows (having 3 disctractions is great in the current meta). Many people play Cryptic Companion of course, but I don't like myself - I find it too passive for my own playstyle. Incontested can be great against aggro warbands or Cursebreakers. I don't like Victor's Speed so much, because you have to apply it on the fighter who made the kill... And your Conquest / A Claimn Retaken suggestion sounds really fun to me (but that's a very good remark!) - because A Claim Retaken replaced Conquest in my deck ! You're right, Conquest is almost an auto-score every game and doubles Unstoppable Advance well. But recently I've found that early glory is more important, and because everyone plays around objectives (even Magore players sometimes !) it's really easy to score if you have the right cards & strategy. And no one never expects it, so you're almost certain that your moves won't be countered... But I suppose that the 2 options work equally well.
  2. Hi everyone ! This week, let's talk about deck-building again : Fear the dwarven landslide ! Introducing the Chosen Axes Hammer Deck https://www.wellofpower.com/userdeckguides/The-Chosen-Axes-Hammer-(Amber-Edition) Have a nice week-end in Beastgrave !
  3. With the sets you own, you can build good decks for sure. In the link below, you won't find a real deck list, but all the cards are solid : https://www.underworldsdb.com/shared.php?deck=0,117,119,124,125,n299,n303,n368,b295,b306,b308,127,129,132,133,n444,n445,n446,b341,b359,b363,136,143,n499,n504,n505,n506,n529,b411,b427,b431# In this draft, there are 10 cards of each type. As always, Objectives is the most difficult part... Another important question : in the sets you own, there's no inspiration tool (see Regal Vision or Blazing Soul for instance). If you can add Power Unbound Set, you'll find many useful things for all your warbands... including Blazing Soul!
  4. I wrote a little something about it recently (here), so I know it's true : this card can be very tricky... But so powerful at the same time. In your current deck it could help with about the half of your objectives. And also disrupt your opponent's plan if he plays a top tier hold objective warband... And mess with yours of course ! Rebound... Sure, it's a problem for heavy hitters like Chosen Axes. Should be 2 damage at best. At least it's restricted now !
  5. A pretty good choice in the current meta... And in that case, i guess that playing Mischievous Spirits could be a good idea, as it would support your whole gameplan. In replacement of Unatural truce maybe ?
  6. To score Run Ragged, you need every fighter on the board to have a token, not only yours sadly... I'm a 100 games Fyreslayer player who also had 15-20 games with Profiteers... The exact reverse!
  7. Hey ! That's great news. Congrats for this deck and for your victories. Doing so well with the hold-objective approach is no small feat. I'm curious : how often are you scoring Run Ragged ? And Dug In ? And what was your average score in these 6 games ? (I'm in a series of 6 wins in a row myself (vs Despoilers / Cursebreakers / Thorns / Farstriders / Sepulchral Guard / Gitz) with my Aggro Flex Chosen Axes deck - no doubt that they still have life in them !) Keep up your good work!
  8. Hi everyone ! This week, let's go back to an old (but important) subject : Fear not, good cards are coming ! A short post about Deck-Building - for Chosen Axes and for all the others ! By Grimnir, have a nice week in Beastgrave !

  12. That's great ! Well done ! Makes me very, very happy to know that Chosen Axes were successful and that these short posts were useful to you. Thanks for this report and for your kind word !
  13. Hi everyone ! This week, we'll simply make a short abstract of everything that's been writen this year : NO they aren't easy-mode & YES they can ! One year of a Chosen Axes journey in Warhammer Underworlds By Grimnir, have a nice week in Beastgrave !
  14. This is Chosen Axes players' fate... Our warband is definitely not easy-mode. :) Here is the deck I had the most success with recently. With a few changes here and there, this is the deck I used for the Vassal of the Underworlds League. 6 wins out of 8 games, facing Gitz, Profiteers, Cursebreakers and Despoilers with an average score of 14-9... As always, I value reliability over anything else, but indeed I find it harder to get good objectives for an Aggro/Flex warband like ours...
  15. (I must warn you, we dwarves enjoy good disputes...) As they play around Objectives (enough to mess with the enemy plans) but don't need them all game... As they have some of the best faction specific push-ploys... As Hordes can't hide that easily from Fyreslayer's wrath... As they have high damage output and thus don't need to drive back so much to get kills (which is harder to get now with the new Guard Rules and Upgrades)... As their Cleave make Guard less efficient for many opponents... As faction-specific objectives like A Claim Retaken are now becoming much better... As Abandonned Lair is a good flex board which works quite well for them... Aren't Chosen Axes the new Hunters ?
  16. Hi everyone ! This week, it's board time again : Why Abandoned Lair can be a good flexible board for Chosen Axes - and for many others ! https://www.reddit.com/r/WarhammerUnderworlds/comments/e3hm0b/why_abandoned_lair_can_be_a_good_flexible_board/ Have a nice week-end in Beastgrave !
  17. You mean my win-rate ? Since last Rotation, with Chosen Axes I'd say that it's around 75 % (during the Shadespire + Nightvault era, it was slightly better). When it comes to ploys/gambits, as always, The Earth Shakes / Treasure Lust / Oathsworn are the in-faction cards without which I never leave the Lodge. Right now, I'd say that the power deck I play the most looks like something like that : The Earth Shakes / Treasure Lust / Oathsworn / Regal Vision / Restless Prize / Sidestep / Shadowed Step / Confusion / Inspired Attack / The last one being one of those : Undomitable, Shifting Reflection, Countercharge, Mirror Move, Distraction...
  18. I edited my post to mention my opponent's 1st activation (but the image is still sligthlty incorrect because of Alensen's position but that does'nt matter so much) : https://www.reddit.com/r/WarhammerUnderworlds/comments/e0876z/5_useful_concepts_i_learned_from_go_part_2_why/ When my opponent scored CR, he chose to inspire Lund, and that's another reason why I thought I had to do something to take the initiative...
  19. Hi ! I did not. My opponent just moved Alensen in his 1st activation to score Calculated Risk, then I played Treasure Lust and Vol was allowed to release his wrath in my own 1st activation. I thought it wasn't necessary to specify it (and Alensen's position should be one hex up, just near Ironhail), but maybe I should have. Thanks !
  20. Hi everyone ! This week, we're back to the Game of Go : 5 Useful concepts I learned from Go – Part 2 : Why this early attack was probably a good idea... In appearence, it seemed like it was a very simple move... however... A few months ago, when I begun to write this Chosen Axes Series, one of my first posts was about the game of Go, which I think provides a lot of very useful concepts for strategy games in general, and for Warhammer Underworlds in general. Recently, I had the chance to attend my first tournanement ever (where I live, there's no competitive scene at all... but thanks to the great Vassal of the Underworlds community, this experience was made possible for me. I have reached the quarterfinals now, as my Chosen Axes won 6 games out of 7, I'm curious to see where all this will end...), and in the first part of it, one game in particular strongly epitomized what I think about the benefits of the Go game approach. Here, I won't describe the whole game, and will only stress out one important decision I had to make in the first turn, which led to a simple but powerful move. INITIAL SET-UP (see image above) It was a quite hard match-up, against a very nice opponent playing Thundrik's Profiteers... My opponent had won the board roll and had chosen to go second, so I had 3 objectives on my side. One of his was near several of his fighters, and adjacent to Ironhail... With the Mirror Well, my dwarves were as close as possible of the middle of the board, but still unable to reach any of his fighters with their uninspired move of 2... And then came my opening hand... OPENING HAND Power cards : Treasure Lust / Restless Prize / Inspired Attack / Faneway Crystal / Survival Instincts Objective cards : Ferocious Charge / What Armour ? / Unstoppable Advance When I drew my cards, looking at the board, I instantly thought that I had to try something and to take some kind of calculated risk : Vol was 3 hexes away from Ironhail, and I had Treasure Lust in hand. For his 1st activation, my opponent just moved Alensen to score Calculated Risk an then chose to inspire Lund. An early attack was achievable... So here are all the things that came to my mind at that time : ALL THE REASONS WHY I THOUGHT VOL'S EARLY ATTACK WAS PROBABLY A GOOD IDEA, IN RELATION TO GO CONCEPTS : (Note : If you don't remember the following Go concepts, you can have a look at my initial post... see the link above !) 01/ Sente (= initiative) Taking the initiative One-shoting one of my opponent's most important tools (i.e. Ironhail) Denying objective control to him (with Survival Instincts on Vol, which here was an option if the attack was a success) 02/ Shape & Sabaki (= flexibility and efficiency) Making the best possible use of my less crucial fighter Improving my early threat range Making my own overall formation instantly better by saving time for inspiration (because my opponent had to deal with this early threat) 03/ Korigatachi (= balance and overconcentration) Keeping my opponent busy and forcing him to spend ressources on my weakest fighter (even if the attack had failed, Vol would have still been a threat because he would have still been able to charge later) Avoiding to have an over-concentrated formation 04/ Kiai (= fighting spirit) Showing reasonable aggressiveness Trying not to be too passive, which can be killer against Profiteers and ranged warbands in general Forcing my opponent to make difficult choices All these were quite good reasons, and even if there was a possibility that my opponent had the perfect opening hand with the best possible surge objectives to benefit from Vol's presence near him, I finally chose to take that risk. So, what happened ? Vol rolled well, killed Enrik Ironhail, giving me a paramount Glory point and forcing my opponent to spend some important ressources to kill him, while my other dwarves were inspiring on their side of the board. Later Round 1, then Round 2, the game was still balanced but it finally turned into a quite large Chosen Axes victory. Of course, this early move I described did not win me the game alone, but for sure it helped me to fill the gap between the two warbands' relative strenght. To conclude with Go... … I'd also say that this was a move that one could describe as a « two birds, one stone » move, according to the famous Chinese proverb that many Go player use & think about all the time. In this case, because it had so many purposes, maybe we can say it even was something like « three or four birds, one stone »... Because there are only 12 activations in a Warhammer Underworlds game (and because Chosen Axes are so slow), you should always try to make such multipurpose moves ! Have a nice week in Beastgrave !
  21. Hi everyone ! This week, back to basics : Chosen Axes for Beastgrave Beginners ! https://www.reddit.com/r/WarhammerUnderworlds/comments/drkuun/last_post_before_winter_chosen_axes_for/ Have a nice week-end in Beastgrave !
  22. Hi everyone ! This week, we adressed a not that simple (fully theoric) question : Any ideas of the strongest possible builds with 10 glory & 10 upgrades ? https://www.reddit.com/r/WarhammerUnderworlds/comments/dl2rro/the_10_glory_series_part_1_fjul_the_molloghunter/ Have a nice week-end in Beastgrave !
  23. Exactly! Now the minis look even more dynamic. Nice! Let us know about your painting work (hope you'll post the result in the Painted warbands section...)!
  24. Hi everyone ! This week, again, we adressed a very simple question : Did you say short legs ? https://www.reddit.com/r/WarhammerUnderworlds/comments/dghrqe/we_chosen_axes_are_natural_sprinters_very/ Have a nice week-end in Beastgrave !
  25. You did a great work here. Very promising. Will you add hair braids on Maegrim & Vol ? I know that Chosen Axes don't have any, however Slayers do, and maybe it could be nice...
