IKR?  Artificial constructs with souls jammed into them.  This one was a no-brainer.

I’ll have three painting goals for my deathcrons.

    1. Make the bone part unnatural in some way.  Something red-ish.
    2. Work some bone color back in (maybe with a tiny bit of dry brushing or edging).  Just enough to remind the observer these constructs are made of people bits.
    3. Paint up the armor like a storm cast to give Sigmar the proper middle-finger.  That soul stealing ******.

Background wise I agree for the most part, but visually Necrons are way more classic skeletons + constructs instead of construct-men.

That being said Bonereapers from Chamon could probably be painted looking like metal. Some quick leadbelcher primer, washes, details and done. :D

So has anyone else noticed there is a lot of negativity floating around the net about this faction. Not so much on TGA but man FB people are losing their minds. I don’t remember nighthaunt or the deepkin being this polarizing

Do you think it’s fueled by the tomb king players that wanted new tomb king stuff?

Maybe to some degree, but I think for the most part it's due it not meeting expectations. Many people expected their bone-y death army to be classic skeletons as basis and then maybe some constructs on top of it, not it being entirely constructs with weird faces instead of skulls.

I'd agree on this - but it would be a super epic scenario to run!  Gotek in the Varanspire, numerous warbands trying to take him down and him just bludgeoning them out of his way!

Imagine you are part of such a Warband, constantly fighting for the glory and to get recognized by your gods ... and then there comes this single half-naked dwarf and just walks through you, your guys, your rivals and everything you've known as if it's nothing. :D

In Europe is 25€, easily buyable for 18 or less with the various 30% discount

I need a source. I only know about places with a 20% discount at best. :D

Is there any FAQ suggesting that?

Not needed. There's only one "at the end of a phase". You do what you have to do at this end and then it's actually ended and you move on to the next phase.

So Nagash is a God and is less durable than Gotrek? Right...

    Sounds about right. ^^

On a more serious note, Nagash is a powerful wizard on top of just a melee monster and it's only a shard of him and not his whole self. ;)

Its interesting from a lore perspective that his special abilities do describe him as an Avatar of Grimnir. That answers that question.

It doesn't clarify whether he's actually THE avatar of grimnir or just wears that title due how unstoppable he is. ^^

Tell that to Gotrek's Fyreslayer Master Rune.

You mean the Fyreslayer Master Rune most Fyreslayers can't touch without killing themselves? The same Fyreslayer Master Rune he just casually punched into his chest after already casually carrying around an axe most Fyreslayers aren't able to carry? That Fyreslayer Master Rune? :P

In terms of lore strength, is he equal to Alarielle, Nagash, Sigmar etc?

It seems like he either is Grimnir or an aspect of him, so logically he shouldn’t be their equal yet.

He's not Grimnir. He met Grimnir and owns his axe now (if he can ever find it again). ;)

I keep seeing the 25mm base size rumor for infantry doing the rounds, which seems off based on the pics from Nova.  25mm would be interesting and helpful to conversions based on existing skeletons I suppose, so that could be nice.

It already got corrected to be 32mm bases shortly after though. It just didn't reach everyone on the internet yet. ^^

Gotrek's effectively Batman as far as power discrepancy goes, in that depending on the situation he's in he can capably solo a Bloodthirster, but also get roughed up by tavern louts or knocked unconscious by a mutant with sling. I don't really mind where his rules fall, I'll definitely be using him in every game I play. :D

Also if anyone wants a refresher course on what went down in Realmslayer ahead of Gotrek's new audiobook and novel coming out a week on Saturday, I've put together a recap summary of what went down on his first adventure in the Mortal Realms, check it out:

    https://doublemisfire.blogspot.com/2019/08/review-realmslayer-part-2-spoilerific.html

Trust me, speedsters like The Flash are way worse than Batman in that regard. ;)

Ultimately Gotrek is not meant to be a character you should take seriously. His whole life is tragedy for him and comedy for us. Too bad they wrote him so well that he got an actual fanbase now. :D

Personally I'd actually like to see him get knocked down a peg or two, just a little. If just because it will add a sense of adventuring gravity to his adventures if he can be defeated; beaten and tricked etc... Ergo if one can get around him and thus if not put him directly at risk, then his allies and those he might be defending.

He can be defeated, beaten and tricked just fine. That was never an issue. He just has the ultimate plot armour, which is pure irony because it goes completely against his goal to die in battle to restore his honour. So no matter what happens, where the battle takes him, how much he gets injured and so on ... he won't die. That's what makes him special as a Slayer (and not a Fyreslayer because apart from the appearance those have nothing in common!).

  10. Well ... he should be immortal, that's for sure. Not even the death of a whole universe managed to kill him. :D

EDIT: I'm SO looking forward to the next audiodrama with Brian Blessed voicing him again. Him meeting Nagash and that way probably one or two mortarchs as well will be awesome!

There was a loud vocal minority but I don't recall hard sales numbers being released.

Not hard sales numbers but you can read it in their annual reports and they talked about it in interviews. It definitely wasn't a vocal minority. If anything the ones who liked AoS how it got released were the minority.

I wish the general on the mortarch's right side (left in the pic) was the mortarch's look and most units armour looked like his.

I like the Mortarch himself but I wish that the regular infantry would look more like the model you're referring to. ^^

I cannot imagine a gaming group recommending someone start a non-battletome army in AOS. Either they gave advice so bad they might as well be lying or the poster started several years back.

Maybe I missed something but I don't remember him saying that his friends recommendet that army to him. Just that they told him that GW rarely 'deletes' armies and that their communication improved a lot. It sounded to me like the decision to start that army was his own.

Now I as friend would have warned him that future support for that kind of army is uncertain, but I'm one of those people who try to give others the complete picture, good and bad. Unfortunately this often gave people the impression that I'm overly negative because nine out of ten times it's the negatives that are missing for the complete picture which I then add.

Just your opinion, which is no more or less valid than the original posters.  I happen to agree original AOS was the best as you were not constrained by rules.  And there were plenty of community point systems that were better than the current official point system we have now.

To be fair it's not 'just' his opinion. GW already told us themselves that they didn't handle it that as well as they could at first, that with the help of community feedback they made the improvements that brought us to where we are today and that they saw the positivity of those changes reflected in their sales numbers.
