  1. If you have models with a 1" base and a 2" range melee weapon, how many rows of attackers will attack the enemy?

Logically it would seem like only 2 rows, but if you stagger the middle row then technically a 3rd row would be slightly within 2" (round bases) so could you attack with 3 rows?

No, you can't unless there's some command ability i'm not aware of that allows you to. That is a very 40k thing... ;)

Wait, so you can't use command points to just re-roll dice?   oops. we've been doing that for ages - you can definitely do that in kill team, I guess we got confused!

For some annoying reason GW doesn't put unique onto character warscrolls.

Instead they put it onto the pitched battle profiles tables under the "notes" column. These are found at the end of the Battletome or in the Generals Handbook. For the Gaunt Summoner it is not a unique character and thus you can take as many as you wish up to the leaders limit for the game size.

    Cool, thanks

You can re-roll them with a command point once. You pay one command point from a hero within 6" or your general within 12" and you re-roll BOTH dice (cant keep one and re-roll the other). You cannot re-roll a re-roll though so it only works once. And yes, sometimes the dice are hot and he will hit multiple unmodified 10's.

Can you let me know which manual/page it talks about using command points to reroll please?  Having trouble find it.

Remember that rerolls happen before modifiers. So an ability that states "reroll failed hit rolls" will never take modifiers into account, it just cares about your base numbers. But with an ability that simply states "reroll hit rolls" you as the player can take modifiers into account, rerolling dice that will count as a miss after modifiers are applied.

    Short answer, they are different.

ok, that's kind of subtle, but useful to know...

  6. Some units has abilities that say they can re-roll hit rolls, for example the skull reapers - "You can re-roll hit rolls for attacks made by this unit if the target unit has 5 or more models."

We understood that to mean we can re-roll failed hit rolls, as re-rolling all of the hit rolls in the hope of getting a better overall result doesn't seem that great.

But I've noticed a lot of units seem to specifically state failed hit rolls, for example Chaos Warshrine - "You can re-roll hit rolls of 1 for the unit. If you picked a Mortal Khorne unit, you can instead re-roll all failed hit rolls. "

So does that mean if it doesn't say "failed" you have to re-roll all of them (if you choose), or does both wording mean the same?

You can use battalions because there is a part in an FAQ somewhere that says Battalions are said to belong to the Grand Alliance for that army allegiance as well. But yes you couldn't use allegiance specific items like battletraits and artefacts in a Grand Alliance Chaos army, only the Grand Alliance chaos ones.

ok, cool, thanks everyone, it's all starting to make sense now!  Definitely adding plague monks to my army, they're awesome...

Yes, Grand Alliances are perfectly legal in all forms of AoS. Unlike other allegiances found in the GHB and Battletomes; the GA rules, artifacts, and abilities are located in the main rule book.

So I couldn't use say an everchosen battalion or everchosen battletraits if I'm using a grand alliance?  Those sorts of thing would only be valid for "pure" armies?

So you can't form a Skaven army with Everchosen nor an Everchosen army with Skaven. However what you can do is form a Grand Alliance Chaos army which can draw units from any force in the Chaos Grand Alliance. The Grand Alliance has its own book and abilities, however they were some of the first published for AoS and are very out of date now, which is why you don't see too many Grand Alliance armies.

If your going the everchosen way, you’ll be able to take pestilence units as allies, since Everchosen take allies from any chaos faction.

although this is only if your going with Everchosen as your army

You could also go with the generic chaos allegiance which is right now anyways the only allegiance your able to take with Everchosen and just play mixed chaos

ok, so don't know about AOS enough to tell if you're disagreeing with each other or both saying I can do it but with a grand alliance...?

Any chance you can get some photos up? Somebody on the forum will likely be able to identify the bits but it’ll be hard working off a description.

Well there's this guy with the big mouth, and this guy with a naked half torso on his banner...

  11. So as I understand it I can choose different chaos factions to form an alliance army.  So can I have plague rats in my Everchosen army?  I seem to remember half reading somewhere that pestilens units could only work with other plague units...?  But I can't remember where I read it, and may have misread it as I was looking for something else and not really paying much attention.

  12. I bought some pre-painted 2nd hand Maggotkin Nurgle Knights  off ebay because, quite frankly, they just look super cool. Even cooler than the regular Chaos Knights.  I probably shouldn't base my army on which units look cool, but whatever.

Now I want some more, but I can't actually find them as a GW product. So I suspect that they were converted somehow from regular chaos knights?

The horses and legs are clearly identical to Chaos Knights, but the torso's, heads, arms and weapons are Nurgle.  But I can't see any Nurgle models that they might have been swiped from.  So is there a Nurgle Knight conversion kit?  I can't seem to find one of those either, so I have no idea how these knights were made...

First off, Wave of Terror (free combat on charge roll of 10) must be unmodified. That means the dice have to say 10 or more, he cannot give any boost for that to go off. But yes Wave of Terror is great if it goes off.

Everchosen/Slaves to Darkness do not really have a battletome right now. The Slaves to Darkness have allegiance abilites in the General's Handbook 2018 that are current. But the new General's Handbook 2019 comes out next month and they may get updated. On top of that a lot of people expect them to get their own battletome soon which may or may not have Everchosen rolled into it.

Yes, they were unmodified.  Can you re-roll 1 of the dice with a command point though?

Ah, found them in the generals handbook, but they are pants.  Basically re-roll git rolls of 1 if within 8" of a hero... lame...

  14. I'm a newish player playing with another newish player - we've played several games and are gradually adding more rules as we got the hang of the basics.

We're now looking at battle traits, command traits etc.  My opponent has a nighthaunts army and he apparently has 6 really quite powerful battle traits - in addition to all the ridiculous amount of buffing he already gets.  Last night one of my large units got slaughtered after being charged by 3 of his units that all got 10+ charge rolls - which allowed each of them to attack with their ridiculous number of dice before the combat even started, and then one of them got another attack at the start of the combat phase before what was left of my unit got a chance to fight back... which seems a tad over powered, especially given the charge bonuses and hero buffs they were already getting.

But I'm trying to find out what battle traits I get for having an everchosen / slaves to darkness army and I can't find any. at all.  So his army is buffed like crazy plus has 6 mostly powerful battle traits and I get naff all.  Am I missing something?
