hi, i've recently started playing warhammer and i desperately need advice on which list is best to play for new stormcasts, for the moment i was thinking about this:

    Cartalos 300

    Lord-relictor 145

    Vindictors x5 130

    Vindictors x5 130

    Judicators x10 400

    Chariot 165

    Annhichilator wGreathammer x6 480

    Retributors x5 235

    ToT: 1985/2000p

Thx for helping at all ^^

Well it's too early for there to even be a best list (Except for as many Stormdrake Guard as you can fit, because that warscroll is bent AF for the cost)

But for what you have right there I'd for sure want a Lord Imperitant to give your Annihilators the 7" Scions deployment instead of 9". Is the Relictor in your list to Translocate something specific? Like the Judicators? If you're Deepstriking both Paladin units, you probably don't need the Relictor for Translocate (Although let's be honest; he's one of our top 3 leaders and will always be good)

This is for maximizing competitive lists though, otherwise go for it, it is by no means weak or unplayable. The big question now if going to events though is if you can handle Mega Gargants, and I do not think this list got the oomph to take them down relaibly without taking too much damage in return.

On that note; do you guys think the sons of Dracothian will be on Mega bases? Are megas on the same base as a Cabbage?

  3. I'm actually pretty hyped on Raptors with Hurricane Crossbows now. I had previous been running a min squad for horde removal, but they seem like something that could output a truly terrifying volume of firepower. Probably one of our best answers to something like Gotrek.

As an aside. I am tempted to put together a Double Dragon meme list.
Do you guys think a list with the following would have legs?

1x Knight Draconis - General for the -1 Wound Command Trait
    1x Krondys
    1x Karazai

    1x2 Stormdrake Guard
    2x5 Vindictors

  4. Thinking about trying this for a Dragons List;

    Allegiance Ability: Watchful Guardians
Stormkeep: Either Tempest Lords or Anvils of Heldenhammer

Holy Command: Probably Call for Aid. Thinking about Steadfast March

    General:
    Knight Draconis - 255
-Command Trait: Master of the Celestial Menagerie
    -Artifact: Drakescale Armour
    -Mount Trait: Celesital Instincts

    Krondys, Son of Dracothian: 600
    -Spell: Starfall

    Lord Relictor - 145
-Prayer: Translocation (Might take Divine Light as an additional enhancement on him instead of an artifact)

    2x5 Vindictors - 260

    1x5 Sequitors - 145
    -3 Grandhammers

1x2 Stormdrake Guard - 285 (Their cost in twos has to be a mistake. Only 5 points more than Dracolines?)
    -2x Lances

    1x1 Stormdrake Guard - 145
    -1x Lance

    1x Stormstrike Chariot - 165
    -1x Lance

    Total Points: 2000
    Total Wounds: 104

Idea would be to lean on just enough bodies to play some objectives while having fun with a ****** number of flying monsters. The Sequitors and Chariot would just be another pair of Drakes, but they have to be getting a points hike right?

  5. Overall I'm pretty happy with how customizable the Stormhosts are. New Dracothian units are nuts. Vanquishers are meh. Vigilors are decent. Judicators are improved, I might actually like crossbows more now. For Vanguard Raptors I DEFINITELY like the crossbows more now. Knight Venator got like no love, basically trash. Same with Ballistas. Azyros gives +1 to hit against enemies in range now, but hits twice as hard. Sequitors and Lord Exorcist got some spicy utility. Gavriel Sureheart got nerfed into an early grave. The Chariot is bonkers for the points. Everything basically went up.

Biggest surprise is the Holy Commands we can choose. Count as an enhancement (Does it mean we can choose a second if we take a warlord battion?) Once per game command abilities that are bonkers value. Like get back an entire Redeemer unit when it dies, as long as you have a hero on the battlefield for 1 CP, once per game. Other options are Run and charge, Shoot in the hero phase, get +1 attacks for the combat phase, and Explode on 5+s when dying instead of 6+s

Liberators improved but didn't really get the help they needed, and went up in points to 115.

Castigators now ALL have D3 shot bows. Their channeling buff was unchanged.

Vanguard Hunters can teleport to any board edge instead of making a NORMAL move each turn.

Knight Heraldor lost his run and charge ability, now only has his MW toot.

Castellant and Vexillor remained the same.

The Knight Draconis is a hell of a leader choice.

The Knight Judicator is 205 points. RIP, lol.

Hey guys, quick quiestion - do I uderstand it correctly, that only new battletomes and a few new models will be on preoder 18-19 and not new dragon models?

Yes, from what they've announced, the preorders will be:

    Battletome
    Warscroll Cards
    Special Dice
    Knight-Judicator
Lord Arcanum + Evocator Prime (Re-packaged)
    Stormstrike Chariot

If they make castigators good with Soul Bomb RPGs and d3 mortal wounds, god watch out ebay for that mad dash

No kidding. They could make it work too, since they are on units of 3 and never battleline.

Also, I gave a guy six of my Castigators to build and paint for Warcry, because he wanted to start a SCE warband and I assumed I would never need them, lol. So wouldn't my face be red if they end up being great.

like that they are carving out new niches for our shooting units. I hope Hurricanes and Castigators have their own specific niches, too.

I 💯 concur, but it all depends on the execution. I certainly hope all the options have a niche that makes them a reasonable consideration, but the precedent has yet to be set. That said, I'll try not to be all doom and gloom about it. I love Ballistas and always have, so I hope I can find a way to run an artillery battery that feels like an asset and not a handicap.

And agreed that Anvils needs to lose that CA.

A 4x Ballista drop is going to be pretty good if the meta continues to focus on big MONSTER units, especially if the Azyros keeps his re-roll hit1 ability.

Is it going to be better than an equal point investment of Longstrikes? Surely not right?

At least my experience so far with Yndrasta's spear leads me to believe it wouldn't be.

It's hard to see what GW thinks the roll of artillery in this game is, because it does so much less damage than a similar number of points in a different shooting unit, and the board is small enough and movement fast enough that it is hard to justify something that just straight up does so much less damage.

Exactly. Especially since they aren't mobile and can't ignore LOS. And since they've always been single units, you can't even get value from translocate or the Anvils command ability.

Without some really impressive warscroll special ability, I can't foresee ballistas being remotely viable in any competitive sense.

2d6 shots is just too damn random to count on without some like of Blast rule like 40k has.

What do you think it would take to make them good enough? Considering their rend, it honestly feels like there's no way we get a MW proc (Outside of curse), and 2D6 shots makes me suspect we won't get some kind of double-tap ability either.

  11. Hurricane Raptors also improved their wound rolls from 4+ to 3+. If they kept the 3 bonus attacks from standing still, that's actually a huge upgrade!

Ballista seems like it would still need some special rules to be usable with that profile. Although since it has the same melee profile as all our old support heroes, it makes me wonder if those guys are getting significant melee upgrades.

If Sequitors are staying at a 4+, I hope their warscroll abilities improve a bit. 4+ base save is just not that great for their cost.

I think I see your point now. Reducing it from 3 models to 1-3 models per summon does lower the threshold of minimum models needed to play the faction and perform a teleport. You are correct.

But I don't understand why that had to take away the ability to summon 3 separate pieces with each summon. It was absolutely a huge buff that we desperately needed.

As it stands, we probably have one of the worst 3 basic allegiance rules in the game, since it hedges entirely on either getting a spell off or bringing a model that can auto-summon it. The "split" rule helped alleviate that.

I guess its all moot since we don't technically have the teleport at the moment lol. Here's hoping several paragraphs are missing from that warscroll :S

Yeah I agree that it could have still been 1-3 combined or individual. Especially since they made it explicitly clear we have to keep them 3" from EVERYTHING

Chaos Warshrine protection doesn't stack as of previous errata and pretty sure Archaons armor of mork is both wounds and mortals.

Can someone explain the deal with body guards and how they factor into this?

Bodyguard rules (which state they take place BEFORE the wound is allocated) do not stack with Ward saves, as wards officially also take place in that timing window. But all after-save abilities that state they take place AS (or when) wounds are allocated, do stack.

There are a lot of things in that are bad for the game, but spamming trees was not one of them. It gave us a pretty big leg up competitively, since it let us teleport with a lot more versatility.

We have always had to have a lot of forests, that change had no impact on that.

Didn't Mathmallow say at that one GT he was at, that in two of his games he ran out of trees after summoning 15, and would have easily been able to summon 3-6 more; and WOULD have? That's too many man. Like.... we're talking over $400 worth of faction terrain.
