Well looks like people who use dragon blades as blood knight conversions are going to need to find a new source if you want to stick with gw models. Or pray for soulblight update, if that ever happens.

Thanks a bunch for the heads up. Just got me 5 from ebay since I'd have lacked 5 Blood Knights, else.

What you guys think I should take? What you will be more interested in me trying?

I'm interested in the second list since a variation of this is what I'm planning to go for with 2k FEC (currently hanging around on 2k Legions, 1k Nighthaunt, 1k FEC).

A vampire army themed around Aborash would... just be Aborash. He doesn't need anything else by virtue of being Aborash.

Outside of their obvious role as heroes in a wargame, I've never quite understood why Blood Dragons would even raise armies at all, it feels like an anathema to their whole chivalric wandering ronin m/o. Lahminans too for that matter, though for the opposite reason; why go to the trouble of raising an army and exposing yourself, when if you're doing your job properly you can just puppeteer the army of the local lord you've got on the go into battle on your behalf without them being any the wiser?

If it's Abhorash and a Soulblight release with him, there won't be a thing that's raised, rather a small elite force, but I guess it's something else entirely as Abhorash is much more likely to join Neferata, if he's ever to get a Warscroll.

All souls belong to nagash, it is up to you as the player to make sure it happens by any and all means necessary  😅

But I'd always look at what spells/endless spells your opponent can bring.... I don't have my FeC book to hand, can nagash cast their endless spells? If your partner is bringing flesh eaters you could potentially use nagash to ensure the chalice goes down every turn 😉

    He can, yes!

  5. What's the rest of such a list looking like? Reikenor, I presume? 2 Necromancers for the Deathly Invocation, a Guardian of Souls to Buff the Myrmourns, some cheap Endless Spells (Reaper, Shackles, Vault) and what to do with the other 900 pts?

Sure they are... huge investment before you‘ll get to play thou, especially the gristlegore one

Thanks! I wasn't sure if the FAQ drastically changed things up, since I haven't played FEC. I'm owning one of the Dragons and need another one to play Soulblight/Legion of Blood Double Dragon (+ Neferata for double Ethereal Dragon) lists, so when I got that one, I'm halfway through with both lists anyway.

Going on from there, I think I'm better off investing in 2 more of the SC boxes than going for the Flayers only.

Basically to the second and then to the third box... maybe carrion empire if your not into proxy/custom Archregents (sadly broke atm, but my celestial prime regent will be done this year).

I definitely would try out different lists first, before committing and regretting. 2x6 flayers are fun, same goes for 2x6 horrors, with the right back up against the right opponent going on a feast day, they can be really strong.

large hordes of ghouls have not really worked for me (subpar tactics I fear) and also not really tickled my palate... I love my regeneration Zombie list, but with ghouls, I‘m not thrilled somehow

I fear I need to get the original model - I'm into rather heavy kitbashing, but I mostly do this on the original models - but come to think of it, I'd probably manage to make a nice Archregent out of a Ghoul King.

I'm gonna go a rather Knight-, Court and Town-heavy theme with the Ghouls being cloaked in rags and broken armor and my Lords being based on my actual VLs and Blood Knights to keep the continuity (my Blood Knight Leaders, because my Vampire couple won't be sufficient for FEC, I typically run more than 2 Vampire Heroes, I suppose).

I kinda dislike the original Horror Models, but if I put some pieces of armor onto them (the heads, first and foremost), they'll look fine, I guess. I'm rather fond of the Monsters and the Flayers while I can do a really diverse Court with the Ghouls, like: I'd love to do some medieval castle- and townfolk. Gosh, Death is just so perfect, I love me every option.

Back to the question: The SC-Box actually has all the options, apparently (and I need a second Dragon for my Legions anyway). Guess I need another box of Ghouls after that, since 30 won't be enough with summoning; and a Varghulf would be nice too. But good to know that I can just get me some SC-Boxes. Thank you for the explanation! :)

  8. Got me a Start Collecting: FEC Box (mainly for the VLoZD and Vargheists, but the Ghouls are there as it is and the rest I can magnetize). My lore even works with them being a Court rather than a Vampire and a Witch being in a castle (I'm playing her either as a Necromancer or a VL, different years of fighting, there - with Gravesites even stating their human names and being a nod to the World of Old, so I guess, I can also make them work when they lost everything and are in hiding).

Long story short: Where do I go from the SC-Box? What's looking to be the go-to list now that the FAQ happened? Lots'a Ghouls? TGs?

I think they're referring to the Signature Mausoleum warscroll, which allows LoN to use it as an additional gravesite.

I can't find this Warscroll - I know that it's legit and stuff, but where do I get the rules from?

If (like me) you're a mad lad who likes Necromantic bloodline, then Vargheists offer cheaper, flying movement and are arguably better against horses with the potential extra attacks and flat 2 damage and an extra wound before you lose a model.

My biggest gripe with Blood Knights at the moment is the vulnerability to rend 1, going from 3+ to 5+ HURTS, albeit not as much with the point reduction :D

Would you mind telling me what you're planning after the changes? I'm curious regarding Necromantic :) (and totally didn't take into account the other Bloodlines, pardon my ignorance)

  11. Buffs only for Soulblight, I didn't expect this, tbh - not that it wasn't needed, but I thought it wouldn't happen. Totally awesome! (My sceeenshot was blurry, is why I wasn't sure, didn't want to spread hype not coming true).

I don't know if the Blood Knights don't completely outshine the Vargheists now, with them being 200 pts. Neat changes across the board, regardless :)

  12. Don't know if I'm mistaken, but the Vargheist entry in the new GHB looks like it says Battleline in Soulblight Army once again. Video is on YouTube.

    e: and they're down to 150.

  13. Allegiance: Legion of Night

    Mortal Realm: Shyish

    LEADERS

    Vampire Lord (140)
    - General
    - Command Trait : Swift Form
    - Nightmare
    - Artefact : Ethereal Amulet
    - Lore of the Vampires : Vile Transference

    Necromancer (110)
    - Lore of the Deathmages : Overwhelming Dread

Guardian of Souls with Nightmare Lantern (140)

    Tomb Banshee (80)

    UNITS

    40 x Chainrasp Horde (280)
    5 x Dire Wolves (60)
    5 x Dire Wolves (60)

    5 x Blood Knights (240)
    20 x Grimghast Reapers (280)
    2 x Morghast Harbingers (220)
    - Spirit Halberds

    BEHEMOTHS

    Black Coach (280)
    - Allies

    ENDLESS SPELLS

    Chronomantic Cogs (60)

    TOTAL: 1950/2000

    EXTRA COMMAND POINTS: 1

Taking into account the conversation about units working well with the Ambush rule, I built this. I'd ambush with the Morghasts and the Banshee, giving me the charge re-roll and the Banshee's Scream targeting a unit who's Bravery is debuffed by the Morghasts. If I need to shield them, I'd also ambush with the Black Coach, as it's durable enough to withstand a potential counter attack. e: Forgot the Coach's Missile Attack to shoot something upon arrival. Having it not present on the table on turn 1 slows its generating of buffs, though, so I'd rather have it run there, but this depends on the size of the battlefield. Other options I have thought about are either a Terrorgheist to Shriek and shield the other units - or a unit of Black Knights, going for the charge supported by Cogs and also reducing the enemy unit's Bravery - or going in there with my Blood Knights and an additional Vampire to support them.

  14. Thanks for the replies! I just posted a question into the lore thread regarding Morghasts not reanimated by Nagash, since the concept is Old School Vampires, not Nagash - but I figure if I want to use the ambush option, everything else is subpar in comparison.

I sure could field Cogs and send a Hero in with the Blood Knights or Vargheists, but this is more points and less probability than simply going with Morghasts, but oh - how I despise the models.

I'd probably go the route of reanimating something Necrarch style, constructing hideous beasts out of bone (which would still look more elegant than the Morghasts :p).

Any ideas on a cheap bravery bomb with Banshees? - They would probably work well with the Morghasts, but.. ah, well.

  15. What's the best units to hypothetically ambush and kill a Stormcast Ballista in turn 1? I originally wanted to ambush with my Blood Knights or my Vargheists, but even with Cogs I have to get off first, the charge is not sure to be successful - if I drop a hero for the Command Ability there, it's even more points spent. I then thought about two Banshees, but these need to be very lucky with the scream rolls.

Forbidden Power is a set worth getting, even if GeeDubs did mess up the Penumbral Engine with a crazy points cost.  It certainly helps if the store has a solid discount.

I have enjoyed flipping through the book far more than I did for the endless spells one.

The box even has four Gravesite tokens, HAZZAH!  Sure I’ve already made two different sets of Gravesite markers after rule changes, don’t care.  Besides without the Penumbral token how will I know the current setting!?!?

What do the Gravesite Tokens look like?

e: I'm planning to do the graves of my Vampires in different versions of the cycle that is the old world and now the realms. Once as a young human couple that died, once him as a Vampire and her as a witch, separated - and their future Gravesite, as the cycle repeats itself. If this becomes too big, I'll probably do will-o-wisps.

  17. New Player question: If I ambush with my Blood Knights and place them 9" from the enemy, then charge at least 6" because of the Horn Blower and can do a 3" Pile In Move, does this mean that as long as I'm able to place it 9" away from an enemy unit, the charge after my Ambush will always be successful?

e: My bad, re-read the rules. Haven't played my first game yet, I beg pardon.

Here's a thought I just had - has Legion of Grief been added because we're going to lose being able to take Nighthaunt within a Legions of Nagash army like we currently do - e.g. Grimghast capped at a smaller size or not at all?

I dearly hope not, I just started building Legion of Night with nearly half the points being Nighthaunt (Guardian/Chainrasps/Grimghasts/Black Coach as an ally). But since we already didn't have the option for e.g. Bladegheists, I figure we'll retain the option to field at least a few of the NH units without the need to take allies.

e: But why Soulblight is not allowed in LoG is beyond me, tbh.

e2: But since LoG is now an official Legion of Nagash, could it be that the Grand Host gets the option for all NH units? I wouldn't write that off.

Yet we still have the kos on mount which does something similar. You might miss the caster part.

I'm missing Soulblight more in terms of fluff, not in terms of rules - would've liked to field a bunch of Ghosts and Vampires. Rulewise, things are certainly interesting.
