in kastelai ill give it the brick but in aos3 i would not worry about is surviving, cover is a thing, mystic shield is probably going back to being +1 save and we regen like motherfu***rs in the hero phases. I think it could be pretty fine

"I'll give it the brick" - you'll give it the Fragment Artefact against melee wounds, or you won't use it? Not sure if that's a saying that means "I'll ignore it", haha.

Hide it behind terrain. The thing is expensive already, investing more points to protect it makes it perform worse ^^

    But it's so high, haha.

e: Ah well, Wolves also don't protect it from being high. So the consensus is to just be smart with its positioning, no dedicated support? I'll up my positioning-game, then :'D

It says that they sometimes raise zombies, but that doesn't mean they only raise zombies.  And the line "Kastelai vampires will resurrect slain infantry from local barrows and corpse pits if need be" could include any of the undead infantry types.

Barrows mostly have Skeletons, no? I guess I was just surprised on the mentions of Zombies as I figured Kastelai Vampires to actually raise no shambling hordes at all, given their take on martial honor. Skeletons are the better fit there as at least, they once were warriors, while Zombies don't fit that at all but apparently, the Kastelai don't care x)

feels weird, imma keep using wolves for my kastelai

I know, right? I was really keen on knowing if there's Skeleton Guards in Crimson Keep or if they only summon animals, but turns out, they usually raise Zombies. It's mentioned twice, the Wolves and Bats too, Skeletons not at all. I'm okay with using Zombies if my Kastelai Vampires are said to do so all the time, but I also thought the two other Battleline options to be more probable.

With the limiter to +\-1 Neffi and Manni are a bit stuck, but the throne should be able to command two units, same way the vamp lord could only CA a unit once, but multiple units were possible.

tricky how the interactions will work out with monstrous rampage „roar“... no inspiration, but what about buffs from the hero phase?

on the other hand the heroic actions make a big skelli block unsupported interesting again, the battleshock could be denied by the champ 🤔 better for my 40 ghouls in FEC they could feeding frenzy

I also think that the Unit Champion thingy will be a big deal with Skellies. Makes me wait with the block of Zombies I wanted to get initially till we have full rules and a bit more opinions. Zombies are featured in two of the Kastelai descriptions in the tome, so apparently, Kastelai Vampires rather summon Zombies, lore-wise.

I read it as you will get 1 extra CP as long as your General is alive, and not 1 per General. But you would still get the extra CP if you have a named character that acts like an General that is alive, when your appointed General is dead.

Oh, and those who counts as an General but isnt gets the 18"range on their CA. Atleast this is how I read it.

Yeah, I thought it's either this or 1 per General, but not 1 per round anymore, but I also think that 1+1 is probably right - as long as it's not plain 1 per round anymore, I'm happy.

yeah, regardless of the multiple generals thing we got a serious boost for the sole reason that the coven throne exists. You can easily spam its CA on 2-3 units per turn  wich i do not need to tell how strong could be. VLoZD, prince V, all the mortarchs, bloodknights, vargheists, grave guards, dire wolves, terrorgeese, zombie dragons, vengorian lords and potentially (but i would not recomend it) even the throne itself are way scarier now. For sure, enemy armies are stronger as well but there are not many CAs as strong as the throne's. Now it would really suck if they also put a limitation of once per turn only on all CAs xD

Prince V now has a way higher chance to use his CA too 👀 e.g. Mortarchs, a General VLoZD.

pkus the eventual ones you get with hero actions

Ah, yeah, you're right. We were so CP hungry in the last book regardless if Soulblight or Legion of Blood. Now there's Kastelai and enough CP. Finally ❤️

I read it as "get an extra command point as long as any general is on the battlefield". So one at most. But if it turns out to be one per general... Oh boy.

As long as I get 2 CPs per round, I'm good. Either 1 per General (without 1 anyway) or 1 anyway + 1 if any general both give at least double the amount of before.

precisely. I am particulary horny about the coven throne. Thanks to regen (and hopefully new mystic shield) he will have some good survivability and the multi command points are going to be huge on it. Alas the palanquin still sucks some very bloody balls and i am at a loss for words on why they keep making it being so damn bad :P

The multiple command points - do we now get 1 for every general we have on the field every round? The wording in the article irritates me.

hmm I wonder if the Vargheists/Flayers and Terrorgheist/VLoZD would be easy to magnetise so I could start both FEC and SBGL at the same time.

I magnetised both the Vargheist heads and the Dragon head; you need to remove a fair bit of plastic at the Vargheist heads as else, your magnets will create super-long necks. The Dragon- and Terrorgheist-Head you'll need to fill out to properly place the magnet while you'll have to create the surface on the neck.

  12. What's supposed to be the best target for Prince Vhordrai's CA in a Kastellai list?

I'm thinking of playing something along these lines:

    455 Prince Vhordrai

    310 Coven Throne

    280 Vengorian Lord

    125 Necromancer

    390 Blood Knights (10)

    135 Dire Wolves (10)

    255 Skeletons (30)

      50 additional CP

That's 2.000 flat. The Vengorian Lord is there to have a target for Vhordrai. I mean, I could use it on the Coven Throne and get it some buffs to have it be stronger, but with the battle profile, I think it's kinda wasted. Or remove the Vengorian Lord, ignore Vhordrai's CA and only use CP on the Coven Throne's?

Anyone else despise regularly taking named characters?

I'll take them once in a while, for the fun of it, but I don't like playing with a character that doesn't feel "mine".

I want my games to tell the tales of battles of my unique vampire lord, not those of some character I didn't make, didn't come up with lore for and I feel no connection to.

If the named character is really important to how the list plays, I like to have "my" characters be the ones beneath them in hierarchy. For example in a Legion of Blood-List, I had my Vampire Couple who have a ton of backstory be part of Neferata's army and played them as a VLoZD and a Coven Throne with Neferata being the general. If all leader slots are taken by named, you can e.g. put them as Unit Champion and Musician or some such for Blood Knights, for example. Only because they are your most beloved doesn't mean that they have to necessarily lead.

  14. I've been playing Soulblight & LoB before, so I'll be Kastellai now. What I'm planning to do is:

    455 Vhordrai

    310 Coven Throne

    280 Vengorian Lord

    390 Blood Knights (10)

    135 Dire Wolves (10)

    135 Dire Wolves (10)

      50 CP (1)

Which puts me at 1755 pts. I could either put 9 Fell Bats in there; or 40 Zombies, or 5 Blood Knights and cap at 1950; or 3 Vargheists + 3 Fell Bats, or.. suggestions? Belladamma rather not, in terms of theme; I'll do Vyrkos separately.

Aye the only thing that makes me think FEC more than SB is because of the worn down sword.

Unless this vampire has seen a rough few centuries, you'd think these nobles of vampire society would make sure their equipment was fresh and kept well.

It'll be a lovely model no doubt but really hope its SB over FEC. Gimme puar swole badass vampires who'll challenge anything and anyone just because they can.

I'd love it to be a Soulblight model. I'm playing Legion of Blood, but I'd go full Vampires in an instant if they received a proper tome. It's due, the Knights will ride again.

Personally, I am not buying anything else until at least there are some 'legit' rumours about what is going to happen with our army. I have been burned by the transition from WHFB to AOS once (bye ghoul part of my army) and I'm not getting burned again, or atleast I am trying to reduce the damage by not buying all kinds of stuff. I would gladly see the army to continue as it is now with some mortal followers and cool vampire characters or units. Hell vampires can easily infiltrate cities and enemy territories and can raise an army of dead right behind enemy lines.

I also hope we are not getting vampire coast as that would be just a milkng of a cash cow thanks to total war 2 and it would differ from our current theme meaning a 'soft' squat. They can always bring back Luthor Harkon and make him a more important character in the death armies (or a new mortarch even) but personally having a compulsory pirate themed army would be too much.

I feel you and I'm doing the same. What I'd currently miss for variation purposes is another Dragon and a Coven Throne, but since it's completely unpredictable what will happen - Soulblight tome, Soulblight scrapped and kept for The Old World, a last LoN tome similar to CoS for the older models - I'm waiting. I also sincerely hope we do not get Vampire Coast, as I dislike the concept and want my Vamps of old.

Since I simultaneously don't want to start another AoS army as there's a chance that Soulblight does happen, I managed to get my friends into 40k, so I'm painting Harlequins meanwhile 😜

  17. Don't you think that LoN will eventually give way to separate books? Arkhan and Nagash already comfortably reside in OBR, Neferata and Mannfred are fine off, sharing a potential Soulblight Book with Deadwalkers incorporated - the only thing holding its own against this is Legion of Grief, which doesn't make sense to be released if Legions was considered a band-aid (Or does it? I haven't been doing the hobby actively for too long, are armies published between books an indicator of what's to come?). I wouldn't mind another LoN book, as I like mashing Vampires with Ghosts (the looks <3), but I don't think LoN is going the CoS route, with the little amount of armies Death has.

There are supposed to be 4: Mountain, River, Wind and Zenith. So all for are theoretically covered. Phoenix iconography is all over the Lumineth and there is a Sun Spirit. Something like a phoenix should come, but no one really knows. So far everything we have seen has been from either the mountain faction or standard troops, except for Eltharion, who had a lot of Phoenix symbols on him, and one more female mage who could be wind, river, zenith or just generic.

Oh, there's even gonna be river? I feared they'd not do any water-centric things because of Idoneth Deepkin. Lookin' forward to this, thank you for the explanation! :)

  19. Death Player here. I adore these new models (although my Dwarven friends despise them, haha). I already liked Teclis and the Hollow Knight, but with today's release, I'm halfway sold. Since y'all are probably already more invested, will there be other elements too? Fire, Frost, (-Phoenix)? I always loved the Aspects Eldar have and if there's old Fire and Ice with a bit of Earth now, I'd really love to play these.

  20. I started LoB half a year ago, got some FEC from the SC boxes I needed for the dragons; thinking about investing into FEC as I'm super-scared that Vamps are squatted or at least ongoing souped like CoS (or Old World only, in the years to come), while FEC are a "real" AoS army with the new lore and models from this year.

I am definitely not in it for casual play.  Going to the worlds biggest AOS tournament in January and want to field a decent death army so trying to refine it and get a list going.  I suspect I might have to bite the bullet and drop legion of blood, not enough staying power and not really enough hitting power.  Might just run my blood knights as black knights instead.

If you scroll down a bit, you find a thread (don't know how to do links, I'm afraid) that's called "Court of Nulahmia List Help", it's two sites all about fielding a LoB-List competitively. I'm new, but the guy posting has given amazing tips and insight.
