Yeah. But it feels strange having this, especially just having the new Skaven rule to allow something similar. Or even the reason you took spears over hand weapons?

Because it allows Skaven to fight in more than 2 ranks?

How would this even work in AoS?

Presumably something like “if a model is in base contact with a friendly model from the same unit that is within range of an enemy, that model can also attack as if it was in range”

    🤷‍♂️

  3. There have been some wild rumours on 4chan about ghb changes. Bear in mind 4chan faked the gossamid warscroll, but these do seem to have some confirmation from other sources now (users in AoS coach discord).

    * All battleline infantry 4 wounds or less can fight in 2 ranks
    * one drop still exists

    * One new battalion gives infantry + battleline + <5 wounds count as 3 for scoring (Veteran)

    * One new battalion gives infantry +1 damage vs units in the above battalion (bounty Hunter) (melee only)

    * All battle tactics are replaced, much harder, no easy wins (like monstrous takeover)

    * Player going second r3 picks an objective and can only be contested by infantry CORRECTION It's every battle round you pick an objective. But the same one can't be picked more than once in a game

    Some sylvaneth stuffs

The dragonflies move really fast and hit like a truck. They are a bit fragile so you want to use the teleport ability to help protect them.

Kurnoth hunters are great, all types.

Woods still have some stuff with Los blocking and owning the actual kit is still beneficial Vs just using the overgrown rule.

    Tree revs can still deepstrike.

The whole philosophy is to make the sylvaneth a lot more dynamic rather than just sitting in the woods. Think skirmishers that attack fast and then vanish.

    Skaven

I don't really know or care much, but die hard players should be happy.

    GHB

Nighthaunt and DoK are going to really benefit. Don't be surprised if BoC continue to rise to the top too.

There aren't really any big losers, but a lot of those monsters that were borderline inclusions in lists might drop out.

    Horrifying realisation bonus

IDK exist just to stop the shooting meta ever becoming too powerful. Because if a gun line army starts to go above 60% then IDK will rise up to counter them.

    Moar!

nightnaunt and dok benefit because the rules favour 1w infantry?

    SCE doesn’t like this

Morathi has had that since she first appeared. It simply means you can't "gang up" on her and wipe her out within a single turn. Instead you have to deal with her a bit like dealing with gotrek and a good few other big nasties in the game. You either ignore them because they are out in a flank so you focus on the rest of the game; or you distract and delay them. You accept that you'll take losses, but if you can tangle them up in close combat against some chaff or beefy units that also take damage slowly then you can hold them on the board and render them less useful.

It's all about thinking outside of the kill box.

*removed for pre morning coffeee snark

  7. Lmao new Lumineth book, I told you all!

And no Tyrion in the cover artwork either, Lumineth wave 5 confirmed.

    DoK leaks:

Morathi up a mere 20 lmao

    Morathi keeps shoot twice CA

    Both snakes up 20

    Witches down 5 🤣

    Subfaction:

    +1 to blood rites (stacks)

Witches and slaughter sisters +1 rend on charge

    Retreat and charge

    End of movement CA teleport

Slaughter sisters fight twice on a 4+, target gets fight last

    Melusai fight on death

Morathi lost +1 cast/unbind/dispel but is now -2 rend on heartrender. Shadow Queen degrades slower (doesnt bracket until 7) but is functionally the same. Both cost 680 together.

    Bow snakes have no changes.

Damn must be nice to be a play tester army.

The Summer 'tome is almost certainly Sylvaneth since they said they're closer than we might think.

Autumn's won't be CoS for obvious reasons.

That leaves... Kharadron, Lumineth or Lizardmen.

None of them are especially old books, all of them have been criticised for NPP. There's been rumours about another Lumineth wave but it's entirely possible those were just meme-posting, plus theirs is the newest Battletome of the three (not that it stopped DoK getting another).

Lumineth will 💯 get another wave. We’ve not seen rules for all 10 nations or all spirits or Tyrion.

  9. AoS has 4 battletomes in the pipeline and a new GHB due in 4 months time, and all they could show us was… 1 model from 1 of those 4 (which admittedly is a cool model), and a campaign book that might be relevant for all of 2 months before we move out of Ghur with some nebulous “battle packs for every mode of play.”

Oh and a repackaged terrain box that doesn’t block line of sight.

Pretty underwhelming and seems to lend credence to the rumour that aos is on life support.

To be fair there wasn’t much for 40k either, but even AoS somehow missed the low bar of “just show off codex covers.”

Well a) you can't patch GSG, Khorne et all into relavancy.

    b) This patch is clearly more about the bring the top factions closer to the middle factions without too heavily impacting the games between the top factions.

Which it does. Anecdotally between the games I've seen post patch and reports from friends abroad it's actually having a positive effect. To the point that I have Seraphon and SCE players making changes after playing 4-5 games under the new package.

So despite my initial reaction, I have to give GW a round of applause.

You definitely can patch weak factions into relevancy: see BoC and Nighthaunt.

  11. The gameplay of Idoneth really appeal to me but I’m not a fan of the allopexes at all. Thought I’d try a modelling project to make lovecraftian/Cthulhu-esque/deep abyss horrors, but I’m really struggling to find a stand in for the allopex that has a similar ish silhouette. I’ve picked up one of the models to try and kitbash it but I would have thought this was an obvious project and yet it doesn’t seem like anyone else has tried any such conversions before.

Has anyone seen anything like this or have any suggestions for conversion fodder?

  12. While I’m all for giving struggling factions a boost, I’m extremely cautious about GW creating another balancing tool when they don’t have a great track record with all the balancing tools they have currently (eg points).

I think it’s pretty wild that GW have just chucked in a new system for scoring extra VPs with no apparent consideration for how this will actually affect games. There’s nothing in the post to suggest that they’ve done any sort of analysis on game VP differential to understand what effect this will actually have. Have they even looked at the battleplans to see how these are affected by extra VPs available? Of course not.

It’s also slightly counter-intuitive in that it just encourages people to double down on the Sin list units. Why take small units of Fulminators that give up 2+ extra VPs every 12w dealt instead of one unit giving up 2+ VP every 24w which you can also better buff?

There’s also the fact that the list isn’t equal at all. You get 2VP from doing 12 damage to a 4+ save (Longstrikes), and 1 VP from doing 12 damage to a 4+ over 4 turns (Morathi). One of these is not like the other. Same with salamanders vs dragons.

SCE world problems, but I’m also not keen about the fact that 3 of the only good units for dealing damage can’t earn bonus VP. This doesn’t encourage me to use the rest of the book, because the other units are held back for other reasons (Annihilators) or simply don’t do enough damage (Paladins, Evocators, other Dracoths).

The notable absence of Idoneth and Gotrek is baffling.

Finally this is going to play havoc with any tournament system using VPs as a scoring system. A few extra VPs for killing monsters is fine but there could be 8 or more extra VPs floating about here which some armies can get and others can’t.
