Which ones don't make sense?  The gun pike might work something like this. 20220917_012322.jpg.94bdd94c57108f7604bfca714e112565.jpg

I think it's more so that hand-cannons like in your example and the guns they showed in the post would be technologically outdated compared to the current empire kit flintlocks by a few hundred years. It's a sort of bizarre aesthetic disconnect.

My thinking is that maybe they belong to a lesser equipped unit similar to peasant troops or flagellants. That or the Dawnbreaker aesthetic will be more late-medieval and less technologically advanced than the more established free cities that we know of. I will admit though that regardless of the reason it's a bit weird seeing a cannon strapped to a stick when we know that widespread steampunk-esque technologies exist, especially in places like Greywater Fastness.

Turns out the Knight-relictor looks much better in an alternate colour schemeimage.png.6fdcfca4f6b1cddcf2be889bf8928221.png

I'm honestly surprised that I don't see many people paint the clothing/padding under the armor as anything other than black when this illustrates pretty well that red under black can look pretty sick. I always thought anvils would be more visually interesting if the gaps between the plates were red to add even more accents.

  3. The cycles errata from the app was added to the FAQ in a "revision" update.

    Quote

, Cycle of the Storm Change the rule to: ‘Once per turn, before you allocate a wound or mortal wound to another friendly Stormcast Eternals unit within 18" of this unit, and that wound or mortal wound would cause a model in that unit to be slain, you can say that this unit will capture and return that warrior’s soul. If you do so, that wound or mortal wound is negated.’

    Question about Bastian Carthalos:

Can you use the ability "The Thunderborn" even if Bastian is in reserve?

    The Thunderborn:
"Once per turn, in your hero phase, you can pick 1 enemy unit on the battlefield and roll a number of dice equal to the Wounds characteristic of that unit. For each 6, that unit suffers 1 mortal wound."

I'm asking that because for instance the "Guided by Lightning" ability of the Lord-Imperatant specifically mentions "if any friendly units with this ability are on the battlefield" in the description.

It doesn't say its a command ability and it doesn't say he has to be on the battlefield so I guess not? It'll probably be a FAQ situation.

Been lurking for a few days reading this thread, interesting stuff, returning to AOS from about 1.5 years of 40k.  SCE is all Ive played in 1st and 2nd ed.  Since I haven't seen anyone mention them, curious to why no one is mentioning the Ballistae anymore, they were everywhere last I played (I have 2).  Not worth taking these days?

Also, what of the Venator?  I played 2 test games (against Fyreslayers) and even getting the vaunted 6 MW shot to hit for the first time ever against his Magmadroth last game, by turn two he recovered every wound by rolling well on Heroic Recovery.  Worth his points at 175 or no way?

The venator is basically a dead warscroll now, but the ballista might still see some niche uses. It's not as good or efficient at shooting as the other shooting units but it's not horrible for its points. The days of dropping 4 of them with an ordinator are long gone though.

  6. I played two 2k point games today with the anvils stormhost ability against ogors and deepkin. The ability never went off against the ogors as he was running all stonehorns which are really high leadership, but it almost always went off against the deepkin. It saved me from a few clutch wounds on my stardrake and vindictors but honestly I'm not sure if just having the hammer's 6+ ward would have been better. overall it's a pretty lackluster ability, but at least it's unique.

any opinions on what's the better stormhost at this point? I'm pretty sure it's hammers.

I actually think the Thunderstrike Anvils of the Heldenhammer look worse. They really need that bit of red cloth to 'pop' in my opinion, there's just so much jet black there's nowhere for the eyes to centre on.

I say this as somebody who's favourite Stormhost are the Anvils and has his few Stormcast painted as such.

As somebody with a full army of painted sacrosanct anvils I agree with this. Without any white robes and red accents it's just a black model with bits of gold and it kinda loses its visual appeal. It's why I'm thinking about starting a whole separate stomcast army painted as the celestial vindicators.

  8. honestly AoS needs less books, not more. they can barely keep up with what they have now. imagine how long it would take to see updated battletomes if every single insignificant faction had their own book. I'm all in on big juicy multi-faction books like Cities and Warclans.

But hot damn are they dragging this Stormcast/Kruleboyz realease out looooong, sneak peak of 1 thing every week and we still do not have any idea exactly how big the release is going to be, not even an actual battletome announcement or look at the cover, it is a super strange way to market this. Customers have no idea what to really expect, it is just so random and odd, 2 big new dragons revealed and the book is not even really announced? I would love to be a fly on the wall to hear the how these releases are planned, as it is an absolute mystery to me.

their release planning right now probably sounds like a lot of hyperventilating and existential blank stares after covid and brexit tag teamed the entire company. It's definitely annoying, but I don't really blame them. I do hope their normal pace of reveals and releases comes back at some point though.

They are clearly smaller and leaner than the current Star drakes, so no they aren't enormous.

For the big boss of their races (Star drakes are only cousin I know), that's ridiculously small...

have you ever even seen a star drake?

It's hard to get invested in making lists with the 2nd ed battletome v-_-v

This is me right now. I keep trying to make lists to fit the new things into my anvils army but it's hard to think of anything decent knowing there's a looming release and a bunch of missing new units. Thankfully I have soulblight to keep me occupied.

I am almost certain that these two RE are for the same model. A seated Ghoul King leaning on his sword!!

I'm pretty convinced this will be the Carrion King since he's never been described as being dead, just out and about somewhere.
