It's too bad the Gunhauler is 130pts, it's sort of artillery that functions as shadow warriors for stealing points.

One option would be the Knight Incantor. Ugly, but survivable wizard.

Another is a unit of Thunderers with rifles. Good range, and probably kitbashable from the Cogsmiths and spare guns.

    Or another 10 unit longbeards?

Btw sinse i go with the longbeards for their buffs, do i go with 3x units of 10? If I go 1 unit of 30 i dont have any units to use them on.

There are 25mm rounds in the box

Alright i think i got a plan for my 1.5k list.

    Hurricanum with battlemage

    2x runelords

    Warden king

    Freeguild General

    30 handgunners (3 units of 10)

    30 longbeards

    3 gyrocopters

The last points i could spend on either 10 shadow warriors or a helblaster volley gun.

Do note that they are quite a bit smaller than GW models (but brilliant, I also have them).

If you keep it to historicals, you can easily make a coherent army though:

https://store.warlordgames.com/collections/landsknecht/products/landsknechts-pikemen for guard (try to get some swords and shields) or https://store.warlordgames.com/collections/warlords-of-erehwon/products/dwarf-heavy-infantry for dwarves (they will be slimmer than GW dwarves)

    https://store.warlordgames.com/collections/thirty-years-war-1618-1648/products/pike-shotte-cavalry-plastic-boxed-set?variant=31469101940816 for your Pistoleers

you could also go really cheap with Perry, https://store.warlordgames.com/collections/war-of-the-roses-1455-1485/products/dark-ages-mercenaries-european-infantry-1450-1500?variant=31468932300880, this has swords and shields in it and still a few guns.

Thanks for the tips but the handgunners is enough for me :) do i need to buy other bases to make them correct for aos?

That is how I understand it, yes.

If you want pretty Handgunners, you could look into Skitarii Rangers. The masks make sense in TE because of the altitude and Kharadron connection, and their guns fit AoS better than 40k (in my opinion). They are more expensive though. Similarely Cawdor gives beautiful sculpts in a lower tech, more religious theme (though also more expensive).

Darkshards and with more work Black Arc Corsairs can also be converted to be Handgunners, (no bow, stick a tube on top of the crossbow).

Handgunners themselves are really, really ugly.

Pistoleers and Outriders look perfectly fine, but if you have lots of money the Sulphurhounds would fit the Skitarii theme very well. I myself consider that, at 3x the price, it's not worth it.

A last option would be to get more Pistoleers, and use the Outrider coats, heads and guns on other legs and arms.

Thinking about using these as proxy for handgunners.

Points cost mostly, and the Longbeards have a few tricks in their grumbling.

Longbeards with all their buffs have 3/2+/3+(reroll 1)/-2/1

Hammerers with all the buffs have 4/2+/3+/-2/1, but don't give rerolls to other disposessed and cost 40 points more. Kingsguard probably won't matter with a Warden king, though MW's are a good thing to have.

With shields, they'll have a better save, but less attack. Whether you want this depends on the opponents and your own playstyle.

Ah, so the units of longbeards give the buffs to eachother?

You can make a viable build with Darkshards and a Sorceress, with Handgunners and a General or with Irondrakes and Runelord, even with unsupported Outriders, Sisters of Thorns or Dark Riders, you mostly have to decide what aesthetic you like more.

One option would be Aetherwind runners (half Pistoleers, half Outriders) with Hurricanum and 2x Arkanauts (for keeping objectives).

I also misremembered Darkshards, they are quite good unsupported, but the Sorceress really gets good if she gets to nom on some Darkshards.

Cities has so many options, so it's good to settle which models you like when choosing.

I see, then i have some questions.

    1. If I dont use irondrakes is there still a need for the Runelord?

    2. How many horses do i need to replace the 30 darkshards? I like the idea of the horses in small numbers. How about adding 20 handgunners, a General and some pistoliers?

Darkshards are quick, that is true, but I wouldn't run them without a sorceress. With one? Absolutely worth it.

Handgunners really like having a General around, otherwise I go for Outriders for more mobility and better looking models (both are battleline).

Pistoleers are a melee unit that starts attacking at 9". Can be brutal, and I love them, but not long ranged enough to replace ranged units.

What aesthetic do you like most between the different options?

Hmm so option 1 would be to replace my ranged units with Outriders, wont my screening freeguild guard lose their purpose than?

Option 2 would be to remove the darkshards and add handgunners+ a freeguild general to my heroes?

I would put the Gyro's to three if you can kitbash that together (you probably have enough spare bits in the two gyro's.

This means outright deleting a unit even outside of the Hurricanum's range (5-6 save units).

One thing I could see going poorly is if the opponent brings quite a few different threats, and the Darkshards can only attack one unit, or if it's hard to get every Darkshard in the Hurricanum's Aura.

I'd probably change the Darkshards to Handgunners with clippers and tube (don't buy the real handgunners, they are awful, though Skitarii Rangers are popular handgunner choices) and make them three units of 10 with a long gun.

Longbeards are brilliant in small units, and your Hammerers are also Longbeards.

One issue I could see it getting to objectives, even with your turn 1 speed

Alternatively, if you don't have a lot of stuff already, you could do something like this (assuming you like dwarves):

    3x Greywater starter set

    Longbeards

    2x pistoleers

    Celestial Hurricanum

    Then make:

    Warden King

    Runelord (kitbashed from Warden King)

    Battlemage (not on Hurricanum)

    3 Gyrocopters

    10 Outriders

    10 Outriders

    20 Irondrakes

20 Longbeards (Partly from the Ironbreakers)

    Celestial Hurricanum.

This means you'll have three Cogsmiths and a Warden King spare, which would be quite good in a Kharadron splash.

Though do ask other people. I don't play.

The reason i included darkshards is because irondrakes seems very slow and I dont want to use soulbridge.

Maybe handgunners/pistoliers or grundstock Thunderers instead of the darkshards?

  9. Alright this is my idea for a 1500 list.

    Leaders

    Hurricanum with battlemage

    Runelord

    Warden king

    Units

    30 hammerers

    10 longbeards with shield

    30 darkshards

    20 freeguild guard with shield

    2 gyrocopters

My idea is that the freeguild guards and longbeards will screen for the darkshards and hammerers, gyrocopters for objectives and hord-killers.

Could this work or is there any obvious bad picks/other options?

I only play casual games, but i also dont want to invest time/money in a bad list.

  10. Yeah but there seems to be alot of different lists. Im having a hard time figuring out what works together. Id love some examples of ways to build the army, strengths/weaknesses etc.

For example, is there any clear cut units only used for screening, what are my options? What heroes goes well with what units etc.

  11. Hey, is there any decent list based on:

    Freeguild greatswords

    Freeguild handgunners

    Freeguild guards

    Hammerers

Any heroes that would compliment this list?

I have zero knowledge about synergies in CoS armies etc.

    Thanks!

IMO the clawlord primary function is to give +1 attack to either clanrats or stormvermin. Preferably stormvermin (who are too expensive to use). So I would drop the clawlord, unless it's for rule of cool.
If you go stormfiends I would rather go 6, so that go can buff them, and make them a proper threat. The arch-warlock to buff the fiends is fine though, and 3x20 clanrats is also a good starting point. Though some list want 40 20 20, or even 40 40 20.

Typically with list you want 2 or more threats. 6 buffed stormfiends would be one such threat. Them you could add another threat in the form of 40 plague monks, or a hell pit abomination, 40 stormvermin (and then include the clawlord). Or you could add ranged threat, either in the form of 6-9 jezzails, or 1-2 warp lightning cannons, preferably with and engineer to buff them.
Battleshock immunity is also great, so either the screaming bell or the verminlord warpseer.
Absolutely get gnawholes if you don't have them, as they don't cost points. The warp lightning vortex endless spell is also worth looking into.

    Jezzails are beasts! Do it!
Edit: What are the conversions kits you've found? Also interested in getting jezzails :D

Can you explain how the arch-warlock buffs the fiends? Also how the engineer would buff warp lightning cannons?

Anyways. List goes something like this now after your tips.

    Arch-warlock

    1(2?) warlock-engineer

    60x clanrats

    6x stormfiends

    2x warp lightning cannon

screaming bell or the verminlord warpseer sounds cool to maybe include somehow also later on ..

  13. Noobie question. Can i mix all kinds of units or is there specific ways i can/should build different lists? So i for example dont buy a hero that buffs models i dont even have etc etc

  14. Posted this in the grand host of nagash thread aswell because i wasnt sure what sub-legion this would fit into. I want to make a 1k~ list with start collecting skeleton horde box as base. What kind of lists can i go with? Preferably many skeleton warriors, no nagash but hopefully one with the big guy that comes with the box (i can proxy arkhan as neferata/mannfred)

I have heard that neferata+vamp lord work well with skeletons, but dont you need a necromancer to bring back slain skeleton warriors?

  15. @Sneedlewoods cool thanks! Any idea how i could build the 1k army? Maybe there is another legion that is right for me? Any cool way i could use the big guy in the start collecting skeleton horde pack? I really dont want to play with nagash.

I have heard that neferata+vamp lord work well with skeletons, but dont you need a necromancer to bring back slain skeleton warriors?

Also, why/when would you want to start with units "in the grave" instead of just fielding them?
