  1. Started with Orcs and Goblins with the 6th edition WHFB starter set and still have the Skull Pass Goblins from the next set - it's time to return to AoS and reach back to my greenskin roots! Ordered the battletome, a box of Hoppers and some round bases for the Goblins I already have; I'm aiming to make a skirmish force to begin with.

Yep, looks like a tire. I'd be inclined to say Orks because of the studs but I've read in various places that there are supposedly no Xenos releases until next year, after Chaos and the Imperium have had their due.

But who knows, it may yet be AoS. After the Kharadron Overlords, who would bet money against there being a gang of Skaven Road Warriors out there somewhere using Aether-Guano for fuel?

    Bad Rats: Furry Road?

  3. Should be getting my Triumvirate box tomorrow so I can get started on converting my wandering corpse bride. As for other characters to convert, I've come up with a few ideas. I'm going to buy the Freeguild General since it looks like a nice collection of bits to begin with, probably using the mounted chap as the runaway lord.
I also want the priest from the ceremony (still developing the fluff but I'm thinking he had something to do with the undead curse), might base this on the silver tower priest, I particularly like the arm holding the book.
The beggar who killed the bride and was then himself killed by the lord I'd like to represent as a spirit, perhaps using starting with the cairn wraith model over the beggar's dead body.
I'd also like to include one of the bride's lady maids to add some variety to the collection.

I'm loosely themeing the force around the Mexican day of the dead aesthetic; the mortal city they come from is no stranger to death (since they live in Shyish and all) and so they celebrate by showing reverence to the dead who inhabit the surrounding land and also as a kind of mockery, dressing up and painting their faces as skulls to flaunt the fact that actually they are all alive and relatively safe within the walls.

I'm wondering which kit would be a good investment for a collection of undead bits to use in the conversions, I used to have a few skulls and bits from back when I had a vampire army but I've used most of those up. The zombie kit could be good but the models are so old I'm not sure how well they fit with more modern ones like the Freeguild general and Silver Tower priest. I am aiming for a more zombified aesthetic rather than skeletal, that way I can do the face paint etc.

  4. Even if you only ever buy the kits you need for models you need right now, you will over time start to accrue bits as most of the kits will have spares of some kind on the sprues. The great thing about plastic is that it's so easy to cut up and glue, with a little imagination almost any kit can provide bits for something completely different (for example I've got the spares from Harlequin jetbikes and Dire Avengers, I won't be doing any 40k anytime soon but I'm sure some of the bits will come in handy!).

Sometimes I find it helps to just look at the bits you do have and let your imagination run free a little, you start thinking things like 'oh this blade almost looks like some sort of stylized headpiece' and so you can come up with some conversion ideas by looking at the available parts rather than starting with an image of what you want and then looking for the parts.

  5. Some really cool models in this thread! I've been looking to improve my painting skills and so I think focusing on a small warband would be the perfect place to learn some new techniques (and start yet another project!). I've got the beginnings of an idea for a death themed warband which I think will fit AoS28 quite well.

Since I've got a Triumvirate of Ynnead set on the way for doing some AoS conversions my AoS28 idea is based around the lady with the fan.

The lady 'leading' the warband was a mortal living in the realm of Shyish, a noble in a human city that largely managed to avoid the attentions of the wandering dead (perhaps through tributes to surrounding vampire lords). The lady was to be married to a man who was a fellow noble from a far off city. A beggar stabs the bride and steals her necklace (most mortals of Shysih being desperate and poor). The lord chases the beggar and kills him, only to return to find his love dead.

The lady wells up with rage and despair in her dying moments and the darkness now staining her spirit consumes the church and all the guests, turning them into a shambling procession of the dead. The lord, terrified as all mortals are of the walking dead of Shyish, sees only a monster and flees. The newly risen bride cannot understand why her love would abandon her and sets off after him. The dead procession now wanders the realm of Shyish, ceaselessly pursuing the fleeing lord. Without realising it, the lord dies from exhaustion during the endless chase. Now he too is one of the monsters he always feared yet his terror at the bride consumes all his faculties. If he were but to realise what he now is, perhaps the couple could be happy together in undeath. Yet still the lord runs and the bride follows in an endless, stagnant cycle of death.

So I would be converting the Eldar with the fan into the undead bride. I will also need to find a model to use as a base for the groom. The group would then be fleshed out with some of the wedding guests.

  6. I was able to resist the first wave of preorders for Tzeentch, but if I can make a small army with Tzaangors on foot and on discs I may just cave! Also the Tzeentch chariot is out of stock on the UK store, is that being phased out?

  7. Hmmmmm if I can finish painting this 1000 point Slaanesh army before Tzeentch comes out I may just have to grab myself some of the new stuff! But I'd also like to see steampunk dwarves, and I still have previous projects to finish painting argh too many pretty new toys on the way D:

  8. I always loved looking at the BFG models but never got any, I'd love for them to re-release it!

Regarding Epic, the rumours I've read is that the new Adeptus Titanicus is planned to include tanks and then infantry eventually. Again I only know from what I've read, but didn't the original Epic come out of Adeptus Titanicus anyway?

  9. I have a desktop 3D printer myself, it's a more cost effective way for them to make bits and pieces than to set up the mold and stuff to then produce one model. 3D printing would make it viable to just throw up a massive catalogue of OOP stuff and let people pick whatever they want. I think proper industrial printers have a pretty good resolution nowadays but not sure how it would compare to the detailing from a model made in the normal way.

  10. A Treelord was exactly what I was after for my Wanderers/Sylvaneth force and Dryads will come in handy as I continue to expand towards being able to play the 2 armies separately. When do these come out, they're not available on the GW website yet?
