OK, I was looking forward to dawnbringer crusade, but this model is not doing it for me. The crows nest and rider are waaay to big for the ogor. Maybe a goblin or halfling on the ogors shoulder, but a whole crows nest with an adult human,..... Nope, my logic circuits are now cooked. On the back of a Mega-gargant, or even a big normal gargant..OK, but on an ogre... Nope.

Well to each his own :)

Looks like Ill be kit-bashing this one, perhaps placing the gunner kneeling behind the ogor's gigantic palisade shield.

It would certainly make more sense than putting an older/worse version of the same unit back into production concurrently with the new one, and I feel like the previous announcement about base sizes going up was actually less about "dynamic posing" as they claimed and more to accommodate stuff like the new Chaos Warriors (and eventually Saurus Warriors).

Its possible they have warehouses of old stock left over from the end of Warhammer fantasy, and we may just see those older sculpts repackaged for 2024 warhammer fantasy battles. Its a dream come true for any company, who can sell old stock they paid to make in 1990 and sell it for 2024 prices.

But re-using old molds and reproducing old metal and resin fantasy units? seems like a terrible waste of resources, especially for a company that wants to sell little plastic soldiers. So you lure the old guard back with photos of old models, let everyone dust off their old models to play with, then slowly replace each faction with new spiffy plastic models, which people are tempted to buy to upgrade their existing "dated" sculpts.

I love the idea that things like the Parasite and the red terror were almost just wartime gossip (or were they!?) Test organisms that could be a mutated version of something more common, some may become stables of the hive fleets, some may become evolutionary dead ends.

According to google, there was a Warhammer CCG card game with "Von Ryan's leapers". I assume its some inside joke or reference at GW.

Here's the artwork for the card.

It's ok. It's not really a combat piece, not super tanky, but it is fast and has a cool ability to either have an extra cast or generate an extra CP. In theory you can make a Vampire Lord by sniping a small hero with its spell in conjunction with other damage spells, or at least force your opponent to dedicate their heroic actions to keeping an otherwise unimportant hero alive to prevent this. I like it well enough but that's because I've long been partial to the unit, losing its unique command ability has really hurt it in my eyes and I don't think it gained enough to make up for that. The double commands, potential hero sniping and value of either extra cast or CP are why you run it, and it's notable for being a fast 'medium' tier hero on a big base, so if you have any auras you can extend them really far.

Ok, well that's encouraging. I spent waaaay to much time painting my coven throne up to be an army showpiece, it would be nice to field it in 3rd edition.

On the other hand, the 20 custom kit-bashed intricately painted black knights that gathered dust all second edition are looking VERY spicy right now. Obviously they need a hero to lead the charge. So I dug through my collection, and broke out  an old metal figure for a nice mounted Wight King custom.  Time to get painting!

So I saw in a battletome review that the Coven Throne can now issue 2 commands at the price of one. As an Iron jaws player (who have a similar trait) I find that type of ability extremely useful. I haven't seen the warscroll yet, are the rest of the Coven throne's abilities that bad? OR is it pointed too high for what it can do?

  7. I actually think the Corpse Cart and Zombies are now more useful as a Regiment of Renoun for another death army, than they are for a soulblight Gravelords Army. The regiment grants The corpse cart the HERO status (for look out sir) a 6+ ward to the zombies, a 5+ ward to the cart and -1 to the enemy ward rolls within 12".

It makes me sad you cant use the regiment IN a soulblight army..

  8. So if I cover myself in contrast paint, construct a pentagram from old sprues , and burn a pile of squatted figures, do you think I can summon Whitefang and find out if we'll ever see any Silent People before AoS moves away from Ghur to another realm?

Forget more elves, dwarves, humans, etc. AoS needs an insectoid race. Lets end the era of the beast with an insectoid Destruction army of silent ones and a giant Ur-Grub/beast monster for the army.

I'm huffing copium but i think is Bonesplitterz.

I'm still amazed Bonesplitters are an existing faction, and survived the great greenskinz squatting. They've had no love since Warhammer fantasy. I was going to convert a bunch of beastsnagga orks into bonesplitterz to better mesh with my ironjaws, but the fear of that army being deleted has always kept me from doing so (and doubly so since we got Kreulboyz instead of a ironjawz/bonesplitters line expansion).

If bonesplitters get more love than a single hero sculpt, I shall be amazed and overjoyed. Then ill go back to grumbling about a Ironjawz goregrunta hero 😋

That would fit my theory of needing a Skink general to unlock Raptadon battleline.

Also man I can’t wait to see the Soulblight Vanguard. I really like that the current one is themed on their Deathrattle sub-faction to show off their autonomy but I just can’t justify spending money on those old dusty grave guard even for their amazing new commander.

Even when I saw the starter box at a retail store I couldn’t do it. Only way that was happening was if I bought the Mortek guard that was there too and substituted them in but I already maxed out my hobby budget on Lauka Vai and the other good looking Soulblight options.(and anyway I rather wait for the actual Ossiarch update to jump in on the bone golems)

I hope I live long enough for the golden day that Age of Sigmar finally leaves the last trace of it’s ancient model dead-weight behind. ☺️

I ended up using the "New" deathrattle skeletons as my graveguard, and used the old unarmored skeleton sculpts as normal horde of deathrattle skeletons. works great!

The OBR hero sure does seem uninspired (although admittedly cool), but I actually really like the look of the vampire huntress. The bestial elements are great and I love the idea of another less traditional vampire (with a wood chopping axe!), even if it is a shame they didn't go for a mounted vampire.

I'm ambivilent about her sculpt and story. Don't we already have a Vrykos vampire lord that has a thing for bats (Lady Annika). Besides Soulblight Gravelords needed another unique foot hero like I need another hole in my head. By my count this new Vamp Lord would make the 15th foot hero (13th unique) for Gravelords. Would have preferred a mid sized beast or a mounted hero. Or heck, a ranged hero? Anything really except another foot boss. Lets hope the new Battletome differentiated between them all instead, of 15 units with identical A4 H3 W3 R-1 Dam 2 melee profiles.

    Did I miss anyone?

    Cado

    Deintalos the Exile

    Gorslav

    King Velmourn

    Kritza

    Lady Annika

    Necromancer

    Prince Duvalle

    Radukar the Wolf

    Torgillius the Chamberlain

Vampire Lord (plus alternate Sculpt Anasta Malkorion)

    Watch Captain Halgrim

    Wight King

Heck Soulblight has more foot heroes than Flesheater Courts, Fyreslayers, and Ironjaws have for total UNITS in thier faction.

  12. When I saw the Killteam beastmen last night, I died a little inside.

    Now  I can't decide if:

    A) A planned Beasts of Chaos revamp was abandoned and the model sculpts are being recycled into other lines (ala Kragnos, Ogroid Theridans, and Killteam beastmen).

    OR

    B) There are a few designers that really love Beasts of Chaos as GW and they have been trying to provide some love for the faction by seeding new models for the BoC players by sliding them into other lines.

Whitefang said that destruction players who were disappointed with their battletome will get a second chance next year.

Tbh mawtribes missed out the most with not having new yhetees, butchers etc. Could this be the first sign of the great 2024 destruction wave for broken realms?

Destruction "Wave"? ...No. Possibly a small trickle to existing older destro factions. If we see any large scale destruction love, it will be for an entirely new army faction.

  14. Wasn't one of the older rumor threads a studded leather glove holding an ornate hilt? We had speculated it was either a vampire or slaneesh. Is this guy it? Also his boots look very familiar. Another rumor thread? Apologies if someone already covered this.

Neutral wondering monsters which could randomly bother either side would have been superb in the era of the beast.

Still can't really work out which beast(s) this is the era of?

The "era of the beast" as a marketing ploy is dead.  We got 1 incarnate and a whole lot of nothing.

    Hey a fellow biologist!

I think the gills was to give some node to the salamander part of it (or that this is the sucessor of the old salamanders) as without it is pretty much a dimetrodon with some frills on the head.

I assume the old "Salamander" label from the Old World was in relation to the mythical salamander of British lore that is born from fire. Probably a real life anecdotal tale based on someone tossing a damp log on a fire, and an actual real salamander crawling out to escape the flame. Same with the old "toads are born of dung" belief of the middle ages (toads can hibernate in warm dung piles and pop out in the spring).

As for the new mini, those feathery gills are, well, gills. They imply a fully aquatic existence to the sculpt. They took a terrestrial creature (technically a non-mammalian synapsid, not a dinosaur) and stuck on aquatic larval salamander gills. makes my eye twitch 🤪

Which is why Ill just snip them off, and have a very nice Dimetrodon sculpt!

  17. Why did they give the "salamander" feathery gills? Its basically a Dimetrodon dinosaur with neonate salamander gills, and a tiny seraphon helmet. Its just a weird combo. Then again i'm a herpetologist (biologist who studies reptiles and amphibians), so maybe it just pokes my inner logic circuit in my brain.

  18.  After reading the regiments of renoun article today, I saw the imperial dragon article and, for a moment, was filled with hope that my dreams for a faction neutral dragon were about to be met. Era of the beast here we go!

Alas it is not to be. No true dragons for Warhammer unless your Order, or you find a dead one lying around to animate.  And yes there's the mawkrusha, but its intrinsically linked to iron jaws. Where are my chaos wyrms? Where are my Forest dragons, willing to work for anyone with enough gold to satisfy them? Or a fiery desert dragon that haunts the wastes of Ashqy, searching and consuming Ur-gold? OR a shadowy dragon from Uglu that enjoys using mortals as puppets? So many possibilities. Perhaps one day...

Ah think I missed the context of your post. I didn't realise you were talking about boarding actions box and thought you meant in general the starter for 10th was going to be a full Genestealer Cults (vs SMs) starter, rather than the rumoured Nids. My bad.

I know people have wanted a gene stealer revamp of those modes for a while, but from what I've seen the rumored 10th edition starter box is Pyrovores/Biovores and some Lictor variants.

Of course I'm still waiting for some insectoid army to pop up in AoS. Looking at the Helamite riders GW made for necromunda, gave me hope for some new modern insectoid race design for AoS.

(He also only sold physical models and no stls)

I spent years trying to get a set of those kroxigor proxys off ebay. They occasionally pop up, but fetch a $200 price tag these days.. Too rich for my blood.

  21. I know this is AoS here, but hey, I needed to toss in some daily humor centering around our 40K cousins.

So are Desolators what happens when a Tactical marine with a missile launcher crosses the Rubicon and forgets to put his gun down? Or did the Ad Mech just go insane with a welder? Or was there an administrative error and the missile launcher design was outsourced to an ex-imperial world now ruled by Orks?

I feel this old Simpsons clip exemplifies the Missile Marines.
