I’m actually surprised slash worried by Nagash being in a Ossiarch army by default with Arkhan (and Morghasts).

This has huge implications on the future of Legions: while before I was thinking every new release would replace and add to Legions, now it seems more likely Legions was a placeholder and potentially “soon” to disappear army. Where soon is debatable. But removing models to add to other factions doesn’t match with the previous Nighthaunt behaviour. Weird and I guess only the full release will solve this mystery.

On the quality of the new army nothing to add that was not already said. Love them and now need to budget to include them in my Christmas presents list.

I was actually thinking a long the same lines upon this reveal. I wonder if the Legions was just a big placeholder, as it was pretty much Death while over the course of the years the Death Factions get fleshed out more.

I would actually end up preferring this, as I have waxed poetic a few times on how difficult it is to balance Nighthaunt, since you are in a sense balancing 3 different armies, and the main Nighthaunt book gets the shaft.

If this is the case then we could look forward to book that would be Vampire and Necromancer focused.

This is all pure speculation, but I was thinking along similar lines.

They look massive, wouldn’t be surprised if they are 250-300pts range with a brutal shooting attack, loads of wounds and a surprisingly punchy combat profile.

This is what I would suspect as well. I just hope they can get the shooting points right, which seems like it has been a challenge for GW in AOS so far!

To be fair most armies had a siege engine/war engines until the great culling of the launch of AoS.

Elves lost all their bolt throwers - several other catapults and weapons also got generally lost and removed from the game. Heck GW even one time did a whole castle siege expansion for Old World which had some wall segments and generic siege weapons (ladder, tower, ram).

Personally as cool as those things look I always felt the scale is wrong for them in AoS/Old World. Neat and fun to play don't get me wrong, but the visual experience just isn't there unless you're running an "apoc" scale game. Now kick things down a few scales to Warmaster and that would do epic sieges where you could put a castle on the table and have rank and file and huge siege batteries laying waste whilst dragons swoop overhead and mighty lords do battle.

I wonder what the points cost is going to be for them. Are they going to be similar to Celestars, so that we can have four blasting the battlefield, or more expense so that we only get 1 or 2 on the table at a time.

Ahh then this weekend its still a possible for the battletomes! Though I'm not getting that "new Tome approaching" buzz from GW right now.....

This seems like the best time to fit them in. I sure hope they come out with them now.

Still a bit surprised they are not getting endless spells and faction terrain.

Its a shame that the Night Haunt list is so boring.   I love my Night Haunts but I have way too many cool looking heroes and the Coach is a great model and I don't see many people actually fielding the stuff I painted up.

I don't want to have to run 30 reapers (my current army has 0 because I never bought into them out of spite for giving us a useless four of them in the Soul Wars box) and so many Chain Rasps.  I love Blade Revenants but 30 of them plus 30 Reapers plus 30 chain rasps sounds really boring to paint and move around the battle field.

The reality is that the battletome is probably in the worst shape of all 2.0 battletomes, so if you are bringing a crunchy list to a tourney, you have very limited options in Nighthaunt.

I love putting Kurdoss and some of my other beautiful models on the battlefield like anyone else, but if I am going to a tourney to win I know that my options are much more limited.

Yeah I was hoping we'd get another leader, but that's partly because visually the other two leader type models appear to be support/caster type leaders and the one with the casket could even be a unique hero. A generic warrior leader would be good to add. Something to lead the armies when the general isn't on the field.

The Bone Catapult making something else makes perfect sense, though it will be interesting to see what!

After Kurdoss turned out to be the fighty one in Nighthaunt, I don't judge on appearances if they are going to be fighty or casty heroes!

The preview video said October. Warhammer weekly are doing  a summary video right now. In the QnA they said that the cities of sigmar and Orruk warclans are coming so soon that they aren’t worth talking about. They won’t be getting new scenery or endless spell kits but will get some interesting rules in that regard. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were coming next after the 40k plane game.

They said no Terrain and endless spells for Orruk and CoS?

It doesn't matter you are tired of it or not.

If people cry like... our 345th book comes without terrain while other people don't get a single book,  you will have to listen them complain. Especially when Order just got their own terrain.

Again, the issue is that StD have no book, no spells, no terrain, no nothing and people complain that the 37th terrain they just got is not to their likings

I mean, at this point everyone knows that the armies without a book are in bad shape. There is no reason to beat the drum constantly about it.

GW has revealed 1 new model for the Ogors and at teh same time announced that the Tithe of Bones is coming. It's basically half of a new box tease like we got for Skaven and Flesheaters etc... Only GW is being all cagey about the other half of the box and, with the new Death army video (we assume) that could hint at the other half of the box's contents.

So there's nothing confirmed, just some educated guesswork based on what GW has released in the past and what they've shown this time around.

This feels pretty accurate to me.

I imagine the other half is going to  be a "Deathrattle"ish army. The Skeleton models are really old, and the Skeleton warband points to some pretty good looking models.

As much as I would love them to bring back half the tomb king lineup, since I have an entire tub bubblewrapped and stored away, I don't think it's ever going to happen.

  10. 1/2 Splintered Fangs/Untamed Beasts

    3/4/5 Corvus/Unmade/Cypher lords

    6 Iron Golems

Splintered Fangs are my favorite. I love the aesthetic, and I hope we see some more stuff in line with it.

Really, the only one that feels a bit lackluster is the iron golems. I think with all the cool models that are KO style, they could have done a lot more cool stuff with the Iron Golems. They just seem super generic.

Do we know any more changes to points for endless spells? Other than that of the purple sun

Cogs went to 80, Geminids to 60.

As for the points, I have to say it's pretty disappointing. I think we needed some steeper drops. I would have liked both the GoS and Spirit Torment to have gone down 20 each.

While I do understand the lore behind nighthaunt being in LoN, it was a terrible terrible decision gameplay wise. The problem is that if they remove nighthaunt from common availability in LoN now, people will feel understandably frustrated; it should simply never have been in there in the first place.

Because of this nighthaunt will always be held back by LoN, anything that could be powerful for us will have to be judged on its power in LoN and they will almost always be able to make it stronger than us. Maybe the new LoN battletome will make nighthaunt allies only and GW will just take the flack in their stride, with LoG they now could do this and still claim that LoN has access, but it is limited to one faxtion within the allegiance.

But dear lord do I hope that more frequent point changes are in the works, because 280 is still WAY to high to justify the mourngul, it is still 20 points higher than a verminlord and nowhere near as good.

Yeah, I think making the Legion of Grief be the nighthaunt faction in LoN, and then Nighthaunt/LoN being allies to the rest of the armies in LoN is really the only way to fix it. Then they are only really balancing two armies, instead of 3.

We got the shaft hard imo.

Mourngul is a joke at 280. Shoulda been 220-240 when you compare it to stuff at those points. Black Coach should probably be 200-220. Guess the army will continue to haunt the lowest tiers as it has since day 1. Really sick of getting punished because LoN made our one unit look good. Could have easily just took it out of the LoN roster.

My ONLY hope is that because points only changed 10-20 in most places they will hopefully be going to 3 month updates. With the points being a free download now it's easy to do and they can continually shift things to make better parity.

I think the main issue is unlike any army, GW is really balancing 3 armies with Nighthaunt. LoN, LoG and Nighthaunt. This makes balance, ridiculously hard. As we know, Grimghasts were fine in NH, but broken in LoN. Now they have to balance points to account for LoG as well. As long as this exists in this current form, I think Nighthaunt will likely never be balanced as a solo tome.

The only bit that seems quite annoying to me would be the battalions. Given you'll probably want to take a Glade, taking a battalion is the only way to ensure you get at least one artefact of your choice. The Kunorth hunters getting an auto 6 for run rolls isn't too bad. Outcasts suits the units, but I'm not sure how popular Spite-Revenants will be.

I mean, this at least had to be expected right? It's how all the other 2.0 battletomes had been written.

I'm going to let all the Sylvaneth super generals figure everything out, but Winterleaf looks really good to me.

There were rumors that everyhing FEC/Skaven and later was built around a different power scale, so AoS2 books released prior will see big price drops in the next GHB to be on a similar level. I don't know if that's true, or how it would affect SCE in any case, but I wouldn't be surprised to see pre-Sacrosanct units get a drop in points.

Edit: Also WHERE ARE MY BATTLELINE DRACOLINES

It really doesn't feel like it to me. Most of the books besides Fec/Skaven this year (barring gloomspite) seem pretty close to each other, with those two being absurdly strong.

That being said I am still anticipating pretty massive points drops for a lot of the earlier armies.

General consensus and rumours seem to indicate an across the board point drop for most units in nighthaunt. At the very least I can't see them giving us nothing at all or nerfing us, which is better than some armies that seem to be freaking out about units getting over-nerfed.

What I am interested in is that the actual match play part is in a seperate cover. They will probably sell them as a package and it could just be for convenience, making the point part smaller and easier to carry, but I am hoping it may contain actual warscoll changes for some units.

Warscroll changes would be fantastic. They've seemed a bit hesitant to do that too much so far, but it would be nice.
