You can put anyone in any legion, but if they already have a legion keyword they don't get the one you pick.
Effectively, Katakros, etc. can be in any legion, they just only get the legion bonus if you pick Mortis Praetorian.

    Ah, ok, that makes sense.

    10 mortek
    Gothizzar harvester
    6 stalkers

    both Petrifex of course

feels like a solid base, leaves 270 points spare. Probably want at least one more support hero and then endless spells. There’s at least two lore spells that are worth taking (5++ shrug and 6s explode on 5s). Maybe another harvester.

could swap Katakros for a liege kavalos, Boneshaper and 2 mortek crawlers instead. The Boneshaper and liege kavalos have some of Katakros most important buffs (+1 attack and heal 3), and this way you get to use the Petrifex command trait for a tanky general.

of course, WhatsApp chat pointed out that you can stack the kavalos command ability, so 15 of them can roll 2,3,4,5,etc times on the mortal wounds...

I think Katakros has to be in Mortis Pratoerians, since he has the Keyword right?

This has been discussed in multiple threads already so I feel like it is beating a dead horse at this point. Yes, there are outliners, but there is a pretty clear trend that new books are invading the meta and tournament players chasing the ladders are often selling their old army and investing in the new. New rules are being printed, allowing new armies to beat the activation wars and now the DPR craze etc.

I dont see it "killing their business" at all. It is a pretty common business practice in many games. This is the same in card games where new cards are slowly being printed better. It makes sense that they want you to invest in new stuff rather than sitting on your old army for years on end.

There is obviously a fine line between directly pay-to-win and getting a small advantage from playing a recently released army.  A new army should never be so powerful that any army that is more than half a year old has no chance. But to claim that there is ZERO power creep happening is rather silly imo.

Nighthaunt is a pretty great example of power creep, IMO. The army was pretty good when I got into it about a year ago, but now a days it's clearly one of the weakest, if not the weakest, 2.0 tome army. We are now getting a special rule for an army that completely invalidates NH as well.

Orruks? Least popular? Disagree. Even if they are not that popular right now it's because of lack of GW's focus. All kinds of greenskinz were always one of the most popular factions in both games.

I said that Destruction is the least popular grand alliance, and I don't think you can objectively dispute that.  Ironjawz is popular, but bonesplittaz was not, and nothing else in the range until Gloomspite was popular in AoS either.

I also played WHFB, and Orcs and Gobbos were never one of the most popular factions either. Daemons, High Elves, Dark Elves, Vampire Counts were always at the top of popularity. When the new Ogre tome came out, it easily eclipsed O&G as well. Orcs and Gobbos were not a fringe army like Wood elves and Tomb Kings, but they were not one of the most popular either. They were solidly in the middle of the pack.

No, the new "regular" Greenskinz don't have to look like the old ones. They just need to not be like IJ and BS. Maybe instead of chariots they would adapt old Snotling Pump Wagons? IJ are like Goffs, BS like Snakebites and regular Orruks could use ramshackle vehicles full of spikes to vanquish their enemies  - basically fantasy Evil Sunz. There are many options.

This is still Orruks with a twist or a theme though, and again I don't really think GW would think it's worth the investment over a new destruction concept or expanding the exiting Orruk range.

We have to be realistic here, and understand that destruction is the least popular grand alliance, likely by a significant margin,  and it's going to affect GW's risk appetite for expansions. While Gloomspite and soon to be Warclans and Mawtribes has breathed new life into the grand alliance and brought in lots of new blood, it is still the most risky of the ranges to work on.

With that in mind, another Orruk faction is likely a non-starter for the moment. We also know from several retailer sources that most of the revenue from the factions is the initial launch.  With all this taken into account, It is much more likely we will see a brand new concept for a destruction rather than another version of the Orruks.

People make a mistake thinking that Greenskinz can't be regular Orruks and AoS-style units at the same time - you just need to take one aspect of them and enhance it. Maybe boar chariots or maybe siege machines, who knows? GW definitely can come up with something. Just don't make them stronger (IJ) or wild (BS) and they are regular Orruks but with a theme.

I just don't see this happening.  I don't see why GW would take the risk of this, when they could expand the IJ, which are already incredibly popular or the bonesplittaz.  I honestly don't really think a regular Greenskinz style with a small twist being all that popular when we already have IJ and bonesplittaz.  While I can accept Gloomspite as a counterpoint, I would add that Gloomspite was pretty unique, and it was also a medley of combining many old units together. It also focused more on Goblins rather than Orruks.

Since all the regular greenskinz stuff is no longer sold and likely squatted, it's even less likely we see something. I think it is far more likely that we will see a new destruction faction and updates to the existing lines rather than seeing a generic greenskinz style with a small theme.

I could be wrong here, but logically I think this is the most likely outcome.

Normal Greenskinz are defo coming  with the redone Goblin Wolfriders, I wager the next starter set will be Order vs Destruction perfect place to redo orc boys and normal gobbos.  The Orc Boar boys are amazing models and will get re-released, and the redo the rock lobbas and doom divers.  Job done.

I would not bet on this. GW really seems to be moving away from the "Normal" style units.  If normal Greenskins were going to be added back, it would be in the Orruk tome.

Yeah its been too long since the last news/leak. Heck if we hadn't of had the leak we might have waited the whole month before news - come one GW tease us something!

Yeah me too. My gut feeling is we won't start getting stuff until halfway through October though :(

  9. I am curious myself how they are going to change up the Morghasts warscrolls with the new tome. While they are somewhat effective now, they are a bit boring. I am of the opinion that they are going to get a major warscroll change in the new book. I at least hope so.  I would not advise anyone to purchase them until after the new tome is out, for sure.

Right now the superior configuration seems to always be the Harbingers+halberds. The 5+ mortal wound save isn't enough to really keep them around. You have to make use of them quickly, and they need to do a lot of damage so it's always the Harbingers. The extra reach is also preferred because these are pretty big models and bases. it's not worth the risk of not getting in your attacks.

TLDR: Halberds and Harbingers, because they are a glass cannon and you want to get them in fast and deal as much damage as possible.

I'm not going to complain about someone who is doing a community service. In fact, if he reads this, he has my gratitude.

Personally, I'd like to have access to the info as he gets it for my own personal machinations.

Yeah, I don't think anyone here is complaining. I just didn't know if there was a reason he had not updated in a while.

He still does a quick recap of events from the past week on his weekly AOS Twitch show, with some discussion of the lists that did well at the events and cool lists that showed up but like SwampHeart said above LLV was the stats compiler and he has taken a break for a bit for some reason.

This makes a lot of sense. I hope LLV comes back, as this was a huge resource for tracking the meta and lists!

The only possibility I can think of is that they release a wave of terrain and possible models with these battletomes as a surprise release to see if a "flash" sale will increase sales compared to early previews of models.

Lately the pop up store and flash release business model is gaining quite some success in other fields. There is a slight possibility GW is dipping their toes in similar markets? Make the general public aware there will be a COS/Orruk release and then totally surprise us with a mini wave.

Also I think they want to line up the bonereapers with halloween (31 october). Hence late october release will likely be on that date.

Same reason why Gotrek was released on the international beard day?

    GW is experimenting :P.

This actually makes a ton of sense, and I could totally see this being the case.

Have we heard anything of how the Morghast work in  the army? I know that we've seen them on the back group photo and we've also heard of them being "in the battletome" from those attending the Nova, but have we heard any specifics? Such as if the army has sub-armies within it and the Morghasts only appear in one or if they are counted as special allies or fully part of the army?

I've got an itch to make a start on some Reapers and October is a long way off. If we can get some nice confirmations on Morghasts it would give something that could be worked on in advance of the Tome releasing.

So far if I recall right we've only confirmation that Arkhan appears in the army and in the book directly.

I imagine Morghasts will be available as a choice no matter what the army composition. The only characters I see affected by that could be Arkhan and maybe nagash.

I am hoping this tome goes more the FEC and 2.0 tome route with the various Courts or whatever they will be called in this case, and does not follow the NH style where you are stuck with just one.

I wonder what the differences will be between the Stalkers and the Guard. I imagine the guard will give up some offensive power for whatever effect our shields will have (please don’t be +1 save vs rend -!). The Guard will likely have some form of wound intercept as they’re described as protecting characters.

I also wonder what the difference between the quad-wielding Stalkers and the dual two handers will be. It doesn't appear to be a unit champion since it likes the champion markings on the chest. Could it be a 1 per 3 option or could we field a whole unit of just the two handers?

I am guessing that the Halberd version will have a longer reach, since they have halberds. I am hoping the shields also do more than just something static. It would be nice to have something static+ maybe adding a bonus to LoS or something? That would be cool.

I am curious if the blender version will have the two armed option for the whole squad as well. I would like that, as more options are always welcome!

You have four abilities to choose. Two have a wholly within 18" range and on a 4+ you can do either -1 to hit to the enemy unit or only one dice to run and charge rolls for the enemy unit. The other two have a range of wholly within 36" and on a 2+ a mortal wound or -1 to cast, spell and disperse. All effects last until your next hero phase.

The hero on horse gets +1 damage to the spear during charge. Also during charge, extra 3" pile in and rolling a number of dice to the charge roll, with every 6 (?) causing mortal wounds. On a regular basis, reroll 1s to wound against order and destruction and all failed wound rolls against chaos. It has two CA, one can give the rerolls to a unit and the other gives +1 attack during shooting.

    Awesome man, thank you!

In my opinion, the existence of the very modern-looking and classically Vampiric Coven Throne/Bloodseeker Palanquin and Neferata (and Mannfred?) mean that Vampires/Soulblight will remain.

To be honest, new foot Vampire Lord, Blood Knights and Fell Bats - with Bat Swarms as one of the Endless Spells, obviously - and they are home and dry when you include the existing above-mentioned kits, VLoZD and Vargheists.

I'd prefer them to be an elite all Vampire/bat army, rather than the "Vampires leading other stuff" army of old. It's more visually cohesive, and tighter thematically.

I think something Blood focused would be the way to go. Blood endless Spells, Crimsion Knights, and mechanics revolving around lifestealing would be really cool, I think, as well as maybe a t heme of darkness and night.  Could Incorporate Nightmares and other style Night horrors.

In tradtional GW naming, we could call this the Sanguinic Blood Nox Tribunal

  16. I tend to flit from army to army, so what I do is make sure that I come back to an army multiple times before I decide that I actually really want it.

As of right now that put me at Nighthaunt, Stormcast, Tzeentch and Sylvaneth. Tzeentch was an easy choice, since I have an extensive collection of Thousand Sons and Tzeentch Daemons. It  did not take much to get them AoS ready.

That being said, I am pretty sold on the Bonereapers. I also have a Necron and Tyranid 40k army, so the aesthetic hits home for me. I also enjoy the overall look of the Death armies, and how everything endtimes forward fits together really well.

I will probably take my time with this army though. I rushed into Nighthaunt when I should have waited a bit, because I loved the look of the army. This led to some poor purchasing decisions, that I'd like to avoid this round.

So who else is keen to know whether we'll get any ally options with the new bonereapers?

I have started running a local narrative/open play night as a counter to the ridiculous arms race currently going on with the AoS meta. And last night I dusted off my Fec and took a fluffy and naff FEC list. Just basic ghouls and one blob of 6 horrors. Jebus Christmas, the horrors just mutilated whatever they touch. And it made me realise just how far behind us ghosts are. It's great to hear that we've had some good placings in tournaments recently, but it doesn't change the fact that we are going to struggle if the next slew of books follow the current trend for being gross and OP.

I am going to be picking them up as my second Death army anyway, so it would be nice if allies is available. They will likely be my standin for Death until our Ghosts get fixed anyway, which may be a long time.  The nice thing is I am a big fan of the models. I have a Necron 40k Army, and these guys fit right in there.

It sucks, but it's pretty clear at this point that we have the worst 2.0 battletome. I also don't think things are going to get fixed until Nighthaunt units are only allies to the other Death factions. LoN being able to take Grimghasts really hurt our most viable unit in the most recent round of points changes.
