  1. If the pallador need to be 9" away and have no buff for charging, it will remain almost useless. To be honest, I will it is even worst, currently, you can still use the pistol to do some shooting, just cannot charge to do close combat. If changed to 9", no pistol shooting anymore, you basically do nothing in that turn since the chance to get a 9" charge without any buffs is less than 30%.  7" or 6" will be much better and make pallador a viable choice.

Does Astreia Solbright actually have to be within the Hammers of Sigmar Stormhost only? Or can she be "unbound", too?

She can be in any list, but when she is not in Hammers of Sigamr, she cannot use her CA on friendly SCE units, Stormhost rules also doesn't apply to her.

  3. (1) It depends, lord arcanum on dracolines tend to be good combo with evocator on dracolines. The gryph verion have good CA that buffing sacrosanct units. The tauralon verions is the only wizard who can cast two spell in SCE, but I think this verzion is overcost.

(2)Both are overcost from my point of view, but their model are awesome, so if you have budget and like the model, why not?

    (3)Two version have difference usage.

    (4) To be honest, both are not efficient shooter, butI would recommend judicator.

  4. Well, I prefer them change the "ride the wind" rule to move 6d6" with temporal fly ability, need to be 6" away from any enemy unit but can charge in the charge phase. Actually, considering their pathetic close combat damage output, GW can really consider just remove the cannot charge limit for the current verion "ride the wind" rule.

Might it be worth running up the LA to cast? I'd prefer the ability to snipe vs having to pick the closest unit, but a board-sized range is hard to argue with

Well, for the first turn, you need to cast the spell before moving, so lightning blast makes a different. Also chain lightning need a 7 but lightning blast only need a 5, this is also worth considering since in most cases, SCE get no cast buffs.

Good thing I hold back my next purchases until the GHB2019 - but now I need some advice. What I have currently is the SCE half of the Soul Wars box with the Sequitors bumped up to 15, a Lord Castellant, 20 Liberators, and 5 Retributors. My target is to have a viable (semi-competitive) 1500-ish army, and I have a budget around 100 GBP. I would like to have a 1-2 units of Desolators, but for the rest, any advice? I am a bit lost. I was thinking about Gavriel (is he still relevant?), and maybe a unit of Evocators on Dracolines? Or a box of Judicators would serve me better, with another character?  Thanks for any advice.

desolator tends to be good when there are 6 models, so probably you want to use concussor(same kit);  evo on dracoline tends to be deadly when playing with LAoCD and heraldor; judicator have good model but they are overpriced when considering points; gavriel should still be effective in semi-competitive list).

I still haven't memorized our spells lol, thank you! I just remembered chain had great MW application for a small cast

edit: can Evos cast celestial blades on themselves?

Yes, they can cast that spell on themselves. Chain lighting can do a lot MW when the enemy units are sticking together, but that's a 24" spell.

So the Meeting Engagement rules came out. My 1k list from matched I think translates perfectly into the new mode:

      Reveal hidden contents

    Spearhead
    Lord-Arcanum (160)
    - General
    - Spell: Chain Lightning
    5 x Sequitors (130)
    - Stormsmite Mauls and Soulshields
    - 2x Stormsmite Greatmaces
    3 x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows (170)
    3 x Aetherwings (50)
    Main Body
    Knight-Incantor (140)
    - Spell: Azyrite Halo
    5 x Sequitors (130)
    - Stormsmite Mauls and Soulshields
    - 3x Stormsmite Greatmaces
    Rearguard
    5 x Evocators (220)
    - Lore of Invigoration: Celestial Blades
    Total: 1000 / 1000

The idea is to get LAoF w chain lightning and longstrikes out first, both with MW capability and ready for their first and second turn heroes. Longstrikes could even run to claim their range buff next turn, depending on battle plan drop. Shield Prime starts on table against any ranged.

Incantor drops second with Halo since I doubt there will be melee in the first turn. Possibly a better spell choice here,  especially to help rearguard drop move. Greatmace Prime comes in with.

Evos drop last as rearguard. There will probably be an issue getting them into combat, but I feel like longstrikes could clear up any shooting units by this time so them running won't be dangerous. I am wondering if there's a better spell choice for the Evos as well.

I suggest use the lighting blast instead, in Meeting engagement, the deployment distance is 30" at the beginning, so chain lightning might not be able to hit the enemy.

  9. For Meeting Engagement, I have an idea,

    Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals
    - Stormhost: Celestial Vindicators
    SPEARHEAD
    Lord-Arcanum on Celestial Dracoline (220)
    - General
    - Command Trait : Single-minded Fury
    - Artefact : Stormrage Blade
    - Spell : Celestial Blades
    - Mount Trait : Pride Leader
    3 x Evocators on Dracolines (300)

    MAIN BODY

    Knight-Heraldor (100)
    Knight-Incantor (140)
    - Spell : Lighntning Blast
    5 x Liberators (100)
    - Warhammers
    REARGUARD
    5 x Vanguard-Hunters (110)
    - Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes
    ENDLESS SPELLS / TERRAIN
    Dais Arcanum (30)
TOTAL: 1000/1000 EXTRA COMMAND POINTS: 0 WOUNDS: 52

The basic idea is to use thundercat to charge-retreat-charge. Any suggestions?

  10. Just some personal thought about enhancing the Celestial Vindicator Stormhost rule:

    Ability(reckless attack):

After a CV unit made a charge move, it can the reckless attack ability. If you do so, you can pick this unit to fight at the start of the combat phase, but you must subtract 1 from save rolls for this unit during this phase and this unit cannot be picked to fight again in this phase unless another ability or spell allow it to do so.

    Command Ability:

Choose a unit wholly within 9" of  a CV hero, or wholy within 18" of a CV hero that is a general, that already been picked to fight in the combat phase to fight a second time.  Same unit doesn't benefit from this command ability more than once.

Do you guys think this is too IMBA?

  11. Well, the last two years is kind of the time for 40k, they get about 22 codex released. In the first half of 2019, AOS is speeding up a lot. I think eventually GW will give updates to fractions that it thinks worth supporting and leave GA behind. Besides, except for being patience, I don't think players have much they can do.  The best choice might be start another army.

One thing might worth mentioning is that GW reorganize the website list last year, merging a lot fractions, such as skaven and aelf. Then all skaven as a fraction get a battletome this year, so the list shown on GW website now might be the fractions GW wants to keep updating for the future.

  12. Well, I think the actual thing many players(such as me) want is balance. From my opinion, unbalance will create unpleasant experience in any kind of play(it is not just a problem for match play), unless you add a lot house rules. For example, if you don't add house rule to restrict the deadly FEC dragon, I don't think it will be less devastating in open play or narrative play.

  13. From what GW did in the recent months, I don't think the races without battletome won't need to wait for too long, probably this year or 2020. Remember, in recent months, beast of chaos get integerated and get a new battletome, so did the gitz, skaven and slaanesh, fyreslayer and FEC are also special, they have their battletome but their alleagiance ability is on the GHB18. In fact, for the last few updates, Khorne is the only fraction with a standard battletome already getting updates.

Moreover, compared with GHB 18, GHB 19 has removed 7 fractions alleagiance(14 in total) since they get a battletome. I know that player starting from AOS 1.0 might think they have waited long enough. However, please don't just ignore GW's effort to update old fractions in the past few months and just complain that GW doesn't care the old fraction at all.

  14. With sequitor rising to 130, sequitor becomes a upgraded version(no longer a substitution for liberators) from my opinion, if you just want a unit to sit on the objective, then liberator is enough already, it can hold off when the attacker is not very efficient. If you want a unit to do more, then you can consider switch to sequitor. However, with the points increase,  I prefer using the sequitors in big unit, like at least 10 per unit,  because a unit of 5 isn't much tanker than the liberator, especially if you take 3 greatmace to maximize damage output.

Played yesterday a pre toruney game, 1000 points, using IJ vs FeC.

I used a slightly bomb of 10 Brutes, that could deal with the FeC Monsters. 340 points, but need the support of a Warchanter and a Megaboss and a Shaman/Ironfist. The total cost was 720. My opp was using a King in Terror, Gristlegore with the trait of attacking first, and of course, use Feeding Frenzy without spending any CP.

In my turn, I activate the Ironfist, roll a 2, Brutes moves 4" more. I'm in a 8+ charge (including the +1 from IJ). I spend my 2cps on waaagh, recovering 1 and using it to more waaagh. Roll the charge, I heavily fail it. Yes, I could save the earned 1 to reroll a charge, but I need my unit of brutes to kill the King and another DRAGON next to him...

My opp starts his turn, just move, buff the terror through spells, sing (1 brute less) and charge. Strikes first and kill 2 Brutes. Activate Frenzy and kill the rest. GG.

What I'm complaining here is that I had to spent a lot of points, resources (in form of cps and characters auras correctly located) and a bit of luck in order to charge the enemy general, that in under any other circumstance the Brutes could easily wiped out. BUT, with no cps investment, no extra points and no extra resources, all FREE, my opp could have beated them even me charging him. That's SO UNFAIR, overall because you can'd do anything to avoid the combo.

FeC MUST HAVE a heavy nerf in this combo. It's insane you can combine Savage Strike with Feeding Frenzy in a mount that shoots and fights well (fights specially well, with that trait rerolling failed hit and dealing mortal wounds "because yes") and free CP for the Frenzy. Insane and unfair. Maybe some other top armies could stop this, but... What can do armies like IJ, that relies in cc, and ONLY cc?

Thanks for reading my cry xd

FEC have another mechanism that  can make you cry, bring three archregeant and the fraction terrain, then summon 60 ghouls in one turn without using any CP.

  16. I don't think it is necessary to stack things to improve the defence of EVO on dracoline if you stack things to improve its damage output considerably already. EVO on dracoline is an upgraded version of EVO on foot from my point of view, so will you stack a lot buff to improve the EVO's defence?  In most cases, if you can delete or  severely wounded the enemy unit able to attack you, you don't need to worry too much about its fight back.

By the way, the pride leader is "Add 1 to hits rolls for attacks made by friendly dracoline units while they are wholly within 9" of this model", although I think gw means add 1 to hit rolls for claws, but from this description alone, it seems to me that the grandstave is also affected.

I disagree and I think the Drac guard drops were needed and improved them. 300 of less damage than foot evos. MW spam is so prevalent I never take them at 300

Edit: even without MW their armor is close to tissue paper for their cost

I think you underestimate the paws, on a successful charge with the LAoCD, nearby the paws gives 10 attack with 2+ 3+ -1 D3 each,   that's some pretty huge for me, you can further stack the empower and CV's command ability on it to make it more deadly.
