This has been an interesting thread but I keep coming back time and again to the question: what are we willing to trade off for more balance?

For example, are we willing to increase list building complexity to increase balance?  Certainly if AoS went the 40k route and started charging points for a lot more of the options we currently get “free” the ability to increase balance via point differentiation would increase.

Alternatively would we be willing to accept more of a Rock Paper Scissors style balance?  By this I mean would we except that for our faction there are opponent’s that we are simply going to have a very low win probability if they are balanced out by alternative opponents where we’ll have very high win rates if it meant overall the balance in the game improved?

This stems again from my basic impression that there are deep & complex feedback loops in AoS so it is difficult to make adjustments in one area without impacting many others.  Given this I struggle to see “free” ways to improve balance.  That is not to say there are not low cost options currently available or higher cost solutions that may be worthwhile to pay up.  I’m just very curious what prices players would be willing to pay, most particularly s relates to their favorite faction, to improve the game’s overall balance?

In theory points for wargear options could lead to more balancing. In practice it doesn't and probably leads more to some options being never taken because of bad points balancing.

Having more nobs to turn only helps if the people turning the nobs are good at using them

So that was the only lumineth shown today, but they are admitting they will be doing another preview in may, and we possibly have the lowdown on moday, still somehwat disapointing considering how long we have now been waiting.

Remember all of this was supposed to be the Adepticon preview and that the army may have already been out now if not for Corona.

For GW it was a choice between dragging on this preview for a while or drop all the info and go dark for months.

  3. I would expect GW wants to go the Stormcast route and have a faction for which they can release 'new' armies for a while to come like they did with the different Stormcast Chambers.

So this initial release is all mountain and then the other 3 get separate releases some time in the future.

This way they are more likely to sell you 4 armies, rather then releasing  all together or in pairs and only sell you  1/2.

Hi folks. I just wrapped up my first half dozen test color schemes for my Bonereapers. They are simple, quick jobs just to test composition and colors.

I have a feeling on which one I'll use for the army, but I'd be interested in opinions from you guys. If you have a moment and a thought, please let me know.

Note: The actual models for the army well be much, much better painted, so try just to discuss focus on colors and composition, not quality. 😁

    Thanks!

2nd from the bottom left, the gold+green is by far my favorite. Tho the bone kinda falls away with the gold. I wonder if it would look even better with black bones or maybe more white?

You are so right! And I can not really understand why GW is not doing anything about it. Why is there no warscroll builder for 40k for example? It is so terribly complicated to build an army in 40k with all the separate point costs and the beloved Battlescribe is the best thing we have, but it is not a good app in my eyes. There is plenty of more room to make a user friendly and easily accessible app which would give GW some additional moneys for a relatively low effort.

I believe GW at some point said they were working on a 40k version, and then never spoke of it again. So my theory is they tried, then discovered how much more annoying all the separate rules for 40k are and they just said "to much work" and gave up...

As for the OP. Digital all the way, not needing to carry a bunch of books is a big plus when travelling to a tournament.

I’ve looked around, and everyone keeps saying how I need the Gnarlroot grove, is it that good?

and can’t I simply play without battalion, and use the points for better units? How viable is that?

    I’m thinking about this:

There are other options then Gnarlroot. People are having success with Harvestboon and Winterleaf aswell.

Yes you can play without a Battalion but the bonuses from them are good and not something you can get anywhere else.

Plus the value of your army being a 1 drop is not to be underestimated.

Ahh. I think you should listen to ritches podcast

"bait" is something hwg said. Unfortunately an objective isn't a bait, it's the mission, ritchie played it very well to give me no choice but to engage on his terms. But I played to my outs.

again listen to the cast for the skinny rather than just repeat what you heard on the stream from people (good people , people  I respect, but ultimately people who totally missed the nuance of what was happening )

People were talking about how the list gets beat. That game is an example in how the list gets beat.

Not saying its not a good list. Not saying you played it wrong/bad.

Well you can deepstrike. For a start you have a relictor or vexillor or both

as for your diagrams they are very one dimensional and over simplified . Unless of course you play of a 12 inch wide table 😂

It's pretty easily done if you know what your doing

try the linked podcast... listen to my dulcet tones

or watch either bobo steams where this "easily defeated" list tactic went undefeated (I'd suggest summer bobo preferably as I think jacks much more competent if for no other reason he's not drunk and/or hungover 😬)

Right, Watch game 4 of Chimbobo Twitch vod and see how the Gav list gets baited, charges and doesn't do enough and.... win a game they should entirely have lost because the objective bounces towards the Stormcast twice And a big unit gets brought back on a 5+ that just happens to be able to get on the objective while being outside 9".

Its basically a textbook on how the list loses to a good player except for BS mission rng.

If Tree-Revenants are within 3" to my opponents units can they use their Waypipes ability and still charge later on that turn or is it treated as a retreat? What about using allegiance Spirit Paths in the same manner?

    From the designer commentary

    Quote

Q: Can I use the Navigate Realmroots ability if my unit is within 3" of an enemy unit?

A: Yes, but that move does not count as a retreat.

I see no reason why Waypipes would not work the same way. Your not doing a retreat move, your using an alternative ability.
