Some armies can, such as any destruction army with Kragnos (he gets to be a general in addition to your regular one) or Invaders Host Slannesh (they get upto 3 generals).

    Soulblight too

You can in Soulblight, Nighthaunt, DoK, Slaanesh and Destruction. Maybe some other armies, and quite likely more in the future, as this seems to be a general design trend to encourage people to take named characters.

    I stand corrected, thanks.

It's not completely clear how multiple generals interact with the new rules. I would guess that you get that extra command point as long as any of your generals are on the field, not one extra per general. However, you should get that bonus to the Heroic Inspiration roll as long as any of your generals has died, even if you still have additional ones on the field.

Proof that Gravelords was written with AoS 3 in mind, all the way back during the days of AoS 1: Gravesites are not terrain, so they can't be smashed by rampaging monsters 😎

    You can't have multiple generals.

I would add that they started showing Adeptas Sororitas one year before the release with some Z models. If The Old World is 2 years away, It's understandable to only see some concepts, some maps, etc... and wait for a more juicy things in one year (or more).

True, but they could at least tell us the scale of the miniatures.

So uh quick question, something I was reading as I finally got my hands on the KO battletome, I noticed that because of disengage, I can retreat and shoot, however I cannot fly high when I am within 3" because I am still retreating and I cannot make a normal move.  Is this correct or am I missing something?

"Fly High: Instead of making a normal move with this model, if there are less than 7 wounds currently allocated to this model, you can say that it will fly high (it can retreat and disengage). If you do so, remove this model from the battlefield and set it up again  more than 1" from any terrain features or objectives and more than 9" from any enemy models."

Does that imply that people are leaning towards a single ironclad over 1 or 2 frigates?

Why not both? A friend played a list including an ironclad, a frigate and two gunhaulers (a liste I made for him, as he was playing with my miniatures and had never played as Kharadron before), and tabled my Skaven in three turns. A ship heavy kharadron army has a crazy amount of mobility and firepower.

    Barak Thryng:

Incredibly Stubborn: The warriors of Barak-Thryng will often deny death long enough to get in a last blow.

If a friendly SKYFARERS model is slain while it is within 3" of an enemy unit, roll a dice. On a 4+, that model can fight before it is removed from play.

This doesn't stipulate you can pile in and fight with melee weapons, or the combat phase specifically the way that similar rules like No Respite does. So can you use missile weapons? Fire weapons if killed in enemy shooting phase etc? Can anyone point me to any core rules related to this?

In the core rules words "fight" and "fighting" are  only used for close combat. The subsection on attacking in the combat phase is named "fighting".

Not to interrupt these very interesting tactics discussions, but I wanted to ask the admirals here, do you name your ships?

Ships are so central to our faction and real life history is full of famous names (the Victory, Bismarck, Constitution, etc.). So it would be only fitting to name our Skyvessels.

I named all of my ships so far.

The flagship of my fleet, the “BLACK DEATH
My two frigates “DEBTORS RUIN” and “BRINGER OF PROFIT II
Plus my three Gunhaulers “INVISIBLE HAND”, “AETHER WOLF” and “IRON ACCOUNTANT

Am I the only one? What did you name your ships?

I have an Ironclad named Kolgrund ("Black Hammer" in Khazalid), three frigates, named Drek ("Enterprise), Zulbak ("Iron Fist") and Miluzdron (" Thousand Thunders"), and three Gunhaulers, Karin ("Shield) , Krozaki ("Crazy Crow") and Uzkul ("Death").

AdBlock is your friend.  I don't see a single advert.

Right now I feel like 20 thunderers with full tohit and towound rerolls can easily kill any 1 model unit on turn 1 and our movement abilities could be very frustrating for your opponent.

How can you have both to hit and to wound rerolls in the same turn?

Beautifully painted miniatures by the way.

So guys. I had my first games against OBR the other day. Mortek guard in petrifex. Damn. They simply cannot be killed. The harvester close by didn't help. I charged them with stormvermin (ubbuffed due to circumstances) and ended up killing four. Yes, you read that right.

So takeaway points for me: you cannot fight an OBR army. We have to use movement shenanigans, and play the objective game.

How are people dealing with OBR?

I haven't played against them yet, but I'd use a unit of 6 stormfiends to kill harvesters from distance, and LOTS of warpfire throwers to melt Mortek guard. Something like this:

    Spoiler

    Allegiance: Skaventide

    LEADERS

Grey Seer on Screaming Bell (240)

    Warlock Engineer (100)

    Warlock Engineer (100)

    UNITS

    6 x Stormfiends (520) - 2 x Warpfire Projectors - 2 x Ratling Cannons

    40 x Clanrats (200) - Rusty Spear

    40 x Clanrats (200) - Rusty Spear

    40 x Clanrats (200) - Rusty Spear

    1 x Warpfire Thrower (70)

    1 x Warpfire Thrower (70)

    1 x Warpfire Thrower (70)

    1 x Warpfire Thrower (70)

    1 x Warpfire Thrower (70)

    1 x Warpfire Thrower (70)

    TOTAL: 1980/2000

I know this, my perseption of balance contains elements outside of the rules of the game though. In sports there is a phenomenon known as score effects. In any sport or activity with scoring typically scoring first, especially in low scoring games has hugely biases the outcome.

In chess especially series chess which is really just scoring to 7 first. Winning the first game gives you an advantage in every game afterwords and white going first, is therefore not balance neutral since it either provides a benefit or detriment to one player.

Do you have any data to support this claim? Specifically that  players that win their first game in a chess match have a higher win rate in the whole match?

  12. 31 minutes ago, whispersofblood said:

This isn't true, White always goes first, that's isn't balance neutral. Also the stat you quoted is true. White has between a 5-10% higher win rate.

You misunderstood. In a chess  a match tipically consist of more then one game. For example, the world chess championship finals of 2018 between Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Cariana were played in the best-of-12 games format. Carlsen played the first game with black, the second one with white, the third one with black and so on. You are not stuck with one "army" like in a AoS tournament.  As players alternate games with black and white, the fact that white has an higher win rate doesn't give an advantage to one player, as in greater chance to win the tournament. Hence, the competition in chess is balanced.

    Greetings fellow admirals!

Im currently painting my second frigat and that got me thinking, how many ships is enough?
Currently I own two frigats, two gunhaulers and one Ironclad and im thinking about getting a second Ironclad.

How big are your fleets? Just one frigat? One of everything? Or armadas so large, even a duardin from Barak-Zilfin would say: "thats a bit much, dont you think?"

One iroclad, one frigate, two gunhaulers at the moment, but I'd like to expand it to 10-12 ships in total, in order to have a more impressive fleet to behold. Another reason for wanting a larger fleet is that I'd like it to be theoretically capable of transporting all of my Kharadrons.

Battles just don't feel quite as gritty to me when you've got your leader on some massive beast instead of in the thick of battle.

I agree wholeheartedly.  As irrational as it may sound, the number of combat heroes on foot is one of decisive factors for me when deciding whether to start collecting a new army.  So no Bonereapers for me...

I don't think it is 40k not technological enough.  it is too clean for grots/skaven, it doesn't have the aesthetic of KO as their flying units are all big balloons. Aelves aren't really technological and free people just came out with a book. Clockwork soldiers as mentioned in the stormvault fiction? Though I am pretty sure it is not.

A kharadron ornithopter is mentioned in the novel Overlords of the Iron Dragon.

Remember when in this thread was a guy who claimed lots of rumours but we (as a community) jumped him and put lots and lots of salt on what he said.

Anyone remembers around which page he posted? I'm curious if he was right in the end.

The one who said there will be a unified duardin tome?

Faction terrain is a good indicator of what armies will still be available to play in two years time and which won't. Cities of sigmar should have had a terrain piece and so should have ironjawz and bonesplitters. It's a good indication this will be the last battle tome for these armies before they are squatted.

It is extremely unlikely they would squat Ironjaws, an army made for AoS.

Small question for fellow rat painters - I plan to add Plague Monks to my army but I can't decide how to paint them. My color scheme for now looks like that: Skryre units - Kantor Blue, non-Clanrats Verminus units - Khorne Red, Clanrats - Blue and Red. I don't know if I should paint Pestilens units with traditional green robes or try to fit it more to other units using other shades of blue or red? At first I wanted to paint it yellow but myarmy has desert bases and it would blend too much. Any tips?

You could paint their robes with traditional green and their hoods with kantor blue.
