  1. The old empire aesthetic is slowly fading from the realms never to return that is for sure. As it it is the worst unit are chaos knights these should still be the elitest cavalry in the game. They are at the moment okay but nowhere near the threat level they should be. Chaos warriors and liberators as well are pitiful. Run 10 liberators and 10 chaos warriors into each other and watch as you roll hundreds of dice and no one dies they just lightly slap each other.

  2. I'm having a hard time imagining a full slaneesh mortal release. I think it might end up being fewer units/kits than we think. It does seem a bit unfair that tzeentch and slaneesh dont have their own versions of chaos warrior chosen. It would be nice to see specific armoured mortal worshippers again rather than another round of loincloth wearing guys.

I completely agree with your first part and was quoting (from a distant memory) a GW interview.

Old GW was held back mostly out of fear of moving the setting along in any compacity (both IPs) and I am glad that new GW has embraced ongoing narrative, it makes each new release more exciting, to me at least.

Exciting until your 5000 point mixed dark elf freeguild anvilguard army gets squatted? Ongoing narrative is very exciting when it's not your army being destroyed I  mean I remember nagash and glottkin coming out during end times and i was estactic.  But looking back brettonia and Tomb kings both got squatted in those books. It doesnt always work out so well.

The biggest problem AoS has with the ongoing narrative stuff is all the new army releases mean they keep having to be shoe horned in later or what were they just sleeping?  I mean malekiths mummy just became a twin souled god and yet lord of ulgu god of shadow doesnt even feature or have an opinion on any of it. It's a bit odd.

  4. Going to call it now definitely no battle forces they have so much stuff out of stock online at the moment I just cant see it feasible they have mass produced hundreds of sprues of thousands of discounted boxes and havent told us what they are yet . I mean the mega gargant is brand new and has been out of stock for weeks. They cant sell this stuff fast enough

The Zoat isn't a pre-order for this week. So it seems Blood Bowl will be two weeks pre-order, it is very strange to see a long pre-order in November.

Its cos this stuff should have been released probably in september or early October they are a few months behind at least. It why I think there are no christmas battle force boxes this year.

And on top of that, if you want dual wield or halberds you have to buy the old kit. However, I will say the new Chaos Warriors are amazing models with a ton of unique poses

Dont worry next warscroll release they will probably lose those two options and it will just be sword and shield

  7. People always say it will be so easy for Gw to update cities all they need is a few new units and some terrain.  Let me tell you not once in Aos has that happened to any army. Not once. Not one old army has received a new unit.  Not one.

When cities book came out entire product lines were squatted we got no terrain and about half the option were lost for most units.

If people are really crazy enough to think GW are going to release a new box of handgunners and spearman with realm sprue I dont know what to say. It isnt going to happen. Tomb kings could have had redone skeleton troops with realm sprue and brettonians could have had some plastic grail/ questing knights with realm sprue but they didnt and they got squatted.

Aos only releases brand new armies freeguild will never get a new release and neither will cities.  Something new is coming on the horizon that's for sure but the freeguild model range and the cities of sigmar faction is on it's way out the time to update it would have been when its book released the fact it hasn't is very obvious.

I'm sure I will get modded and banned possibly for this but it had to be said.

As one of the persons very much doubting its longevity, I haven't seen any indication of its demise. Inclusion in Morathi even implies continued paper support through AoS 3

The easy evidence is model availability. Old dark elves box is being sold in new packaging the other good guy city faction is all stormcast. The druchii shall survive this purge but mark it now by the broken realms end the city model line will be at an end. I can dream that this will mean aos 3 will release with a human faction box vs skaven or something but that probably wont happen yet. New humans are definitely arriving broken realms has confirmed it

Once full spoilers are out and allowed people will see how the old cities book is already obsolete now.

  9. Rumours abound now that cities are definitely going to be gone as an army come the new edition broken realms is the end times but specifically for old dwarf and human models the dark elf models are going to be kept and rolled into the new morathi faction. What a shame. I guess phoenicum will be the next city to go that will get rid of phoenix guard.

It's actually pretty good news because it means GW MUST  has to will need to release a new human faction at some point in aos 3.0.

As city of sigmar players i really dont like the book.

First see how my citys(alegiances) seems gonna be deleted one by one in each book and replaced by new downgraded citys with worse rules.

Second see how armys at the same lvl or better than citys get huge buffs as idoneths while citys dont get anything dont have sense, how is posible the sorceress in dragon have a save of 5 and nothing more, and only cast one spell for 300 points when per name a old and new example, the verminlords have a 4 save and special save of 4 and cast 2 spells for less points,or the new idoneth mage who have a save of 3 and special save of 4 and cast 2 spells.

So easy to see that the sorceress needd a save 4 and special save of 5 with two cast to be at the level of all the similar models of others armys

But i hope old citys never gonna be deleted (the rules) and we have old citys and these news for who want play them and who knows if any of these future citys gonna be a dwarf city and i gonna can play my dispossesed+fyreslayers in the same list.

Ok now not all is grudges, the book lore is great and i would like to know who is the bat wing who saved the stormcast, maybe a new vampire faction coming and this vampire is one old familiar who has fallen to the curse? Or maybe be malerion who fused with his dragon at the end of times and so have wings.

I think is the vampire and we gonna see maybe a vampire new army with the release of the death book

    But if

Dude cities was always going to go the way of the dodo its exciting to see where humans of the realms end up after this.

Cities are finally finished I think and I'm sure what comes next will actually be something new at least. Whether it's actually good is something else entirely.

Except there are no new miniatures for Har Kuron. And Hammerhal is too important to fall.

No new miniatures but the old ones are technically lore dead. Hammerhal could be ashes tomorrow and it would make little difference. Sigmar would still have azyr. Archaon would still be undefeatable nagash would still have shyish. The cities could all fall and tbh at this point of it works lore wise why not. Something new is needed now

  12. I think we all see where this is going one city of sigmar already removed they are going to be destroyed one by one as this series continues.

Hopefully as in beyond my Hope's it ends with the azyr human forces emerging from sigmars realm as a new human army or it's a mass squat. Even I have to admit this is a good way to get rid of cities of sigmar and start something new narratively. We shall see.

Seeing how popular is city of sigmar in tournaments and how it have double players than fyreslayers per example it is obvious that the people prefer old fantasy models to the weird and"ugly" aos armys.

Myself started to play to aos with cheap stormcasts, then i started a fyreslayer army and when citys was released i stoped all my aos armys and only focused on city because fantasy models are so much more beautifull than these weird aos models and moreover have a decent price tag and not the rip off that are aos new models.

Btw i have 1600 stormcast,700 fyreslayers and 3000 citys points even when i started citys the last by some years lol

Karl franz-phoenyx-hurricanum-black dragon etc all around 45-50€ but similar models of aos as magmadroth, maw krusha, alarielle etc are 90-120€.......even if someone se aos models as beautifull(hard to me) it is tastes what are personal but the price dont lie and for me it is a big factor so i never gonna buy a aos model when i can buy 3 same models of citys with that money

100% cities is still the best selling aos army just look at gws own bestseller selling fast page every single time freeguild units will be present and yet we still dont have a single new model release.  I guess when we do they will all be 120 pounds per unit lol so i guess careful what we wish for right :)

What drive me insane about Lumineth is see stuff like Chaos Warriors and Gloomspite gitz, that are just remakes of older stuff and think about the wasted potential of new High Elves.

Say what you will but the High Elves aestethic was unique to warhammer and now it is just gone.  It would be fine if the older models had been absorved by Cities of Sigmar (lorewise they were Hallowheart forces) and Lumineth be its own thing.

As it is, Lumineth are considered boring by those that want something new and too Alien by those that just want a remake.

Nail on head right there. Imagine if the stoneguard had instead been remade swordmasters with the traditional peaked helmets instead of giant cow faces stuck on top. Imagine how many thousands of boxes would have been sold? It's like redoing chaos warriors but they all have liberator helmets. It's just not the same. The riders and the wardens are solid but the old peaked helms of the high elves will be forever missed.

  15. I think battlleforces are going to be a thing of the past. People who want warhammer for Christmas can  just buy the individual sets at much greater profit from GW. With start collecting going the way of the dodo I dont see big discounted boxes full of miniatures as something GW is going to be releasing anymore. One kit for 125 pounds or 4 regiments and a couple of heroes for 140 with a 30% discount. If I was GW i would stop producing them too. People seem willing to buy regardless of price at the moment.

  16. Why do I get the feeling this heralds the end of the age of men in order factions. Aos true identity i think has been revealed a land of aelf and duardin and orruk with no humans in sight except those turned by sigmar or chaos. I think this herald the ends of the cities of sigmar and begins the empires of the aelves. It looks like the last few remaining freeguild kits will be going soon.

This makes me think we may have 4 or 5 books if that many Factions are in each!! ****** this is so exciting think of the possibilities for the Realms!! What news minis will each Faction be getting? Could we see new COS?

I doubt it. This is like the pa books for 40k at most we might get a new hero model every book but at this point even that seems unlikely surely they would have teased a new model by now

I do honestly appreciate the "recent history lesson", in case my "like" wasn't explicit enough.

Personally, I think that they somehow managed to cripple ally options via the specific synergies they allow within faction. For example, I was looking at fyreslayers to have something "competitive" besides my collection of oldhammer. What allies can one meaningfully bring there? Seems pretty limited, most competitive lists are pretty closed in points.

I think that was the design intent, to be honest, to include a bunch of "smaller" armies and have people paint a bunch of those, as opposed to the massive collections of old.  You are telling me that is changing? I also think we may have different expectations.

Discounting heroes, I'd say lumineth are fairly limited. Archers, spears, cavalry, hammers; one version of each; then some centerpieces. I mean, compare that to the old "high elves". One might argue this is on release, and that they will keep expanding. But I thought that hasn't been the case for a lot of factions in AoS. You are telling me otherwise?

And this is the problem realistically people who bought into ironjawz and fyreslayers at the start years ago probably thought oh only a few units at the moment but I can ally in my old dwarves or my old goblin wolf riders if needed. And I'm sure more units will be coming and the army will be expanded. 4 years later fyreslayers gained 5 new sculpts and some endless spells and a pizza oven, ironjawz 7 new sculpts all just redos of existing units.  All very small no new units and theyve now lost the options for old allies as the grand alliances are basically dead and the models no longer in production.

SoB comes along with 1!! New kit and rehashes an old one from 15 years ago and that's an army. Well as I've said earlier in the thread. I dont think these updates and new sculpts are going to be as forthcoming as the much vaunted imperial knights. Every new Aos faction is limited it seems and SoB have taken that too the true extreme.

I think we should try and keep in mind that the main thrust of this thread is that the army is lacking in design space and composition, and not about price.

There's another thread discussing pricing ad nauseum, we probably shouldn't replicate that in here.

In regards to the topic, I think this army still has plenty of room to grow. They can come out with new smaller giants, maybe some with ranged weapons. Easily come come out with a new mega box with a couple new builds. Maybe a hero box that can make a chief, Brodd, or a shaman.

Realistically this is not an army for everyone but I don't think it was meant to be. It also begs the question of is there anything wrong with that?

I 1000% agree this army has many places it can grow but 5 years of aos releases tells me not to get too excited about that just yet.

Fyreslayers have scope to grow, the kharadron the sylvaneth and the idoneth have scope to grow. So do all the older armies skaven ogors cities.  But since each of these armies intial releases theyve all had no more than 5 extra models produced for them.

That's why this army is so limited because of the slow slow pace of aos releases it's always a big new army being released so far we have not had a single release for an aos army that just added multiple new units and sculpts to an existing army. Save stormcast which are the exception that proves the rule. It's going to be a long wait I think for that second mega gargant.

  20. 9 minutes ago, GrimDork said:

Yup, chaos armies can only take a warstomper.

Death can take gatebreakers. And order the kraken eater.

Drat seems odd that each alliance can only take one of each type seems restrictive.

Mayne the different types would be too powerful in different alliances.

  21. 18 minutes ago, Maddpainting said:

Sticker shock. Everyone was thinking 160 high end 170 for the Mega-Gargant and then they made the already over costed old Gargants higher costed and they are now only in dual packs when most just want 3 and not 4.

Exactly I think AoS very obviously sells less than 40k  the mega gargant are very expensive and the high cost is because less models will be sold. I dont think design costs mold splicing and plastic can expalin the huge discrepancy in price between the SoB army and literally every other army Gw sells. Its shocking.

And reboxing and upping the price is the small giants that can be fielded in units of three in a box of 2 is absolutely shameful.
