I am very new to seraphon, and am really struggling against ogres at the minute. The amount of mortal wounds those guys do decimate my units as they are typically quite small. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, seraphon isn't very good in melee right now. We don't have a unit that can stand toe to toe with ogres.

Your best bet is board control. While Draco's Tail is great at initial board control, spending 400+ points on battalions probably is not the best strategy for seraphon at the moment.

Based on your list, i'd try to get some more Ripperdactyls. They are our best combat unit (although very fragile). In my experience, dropping a unit of 6 Rippers onto an enemy usually results in about 50 saves (no rend).

A pretty easy and cheap ($30) addition to you list could be GOTREK! If you don't mind adding a dwarf to your Lizardman list... he is the best hammer (and anvil) we have access to. And we can heal him and make him fly! Haha

    Maybe something like this:

    Slann Starmaster (260)
    - General
    Engine of the Gods (240)
    Skink Starpriest (80)
Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100)

    Gotrek Gurnisson (520)
    - Allies
    10 x Skinks (70)
    10 x Skinks (70)
    10 x Saurus Knights (160)
    6 x Ripperdactyl Riders (280)
    Shadowstrike Starhost (180)
    Balewind Vortex (40)
    Total: 2000 / 2000

Deep strike with Rippers. Summon with Slann and EoTG. Your Knights and Scar Vet can cap an objective. Gotrek heads up the table on full sprint. ;)

I would hold off buying too many new models for the moment though. Seraphon SHOULD be getting an update "soon". So who knows what will be good after that.

Hey everyone, Nighthaunt player here sneaking into your thread. I've got a special request for you all.

I want you to destroy me.

My friend and I play 1500 point lists, give or take 20 points, and ever since I figured out my niche against him he's been unable to really fight back. We're going on some 6 or more games now where I've pretty much won by turn 2 or 3. And these aren't close calls, either.

I want him to have fun, and it's not fun when you're staring down what you feel is an inevitable loss. And he's no slouch, himself, but he's just not been able to dedicate the time to research and experiment to the best of his ability. And that's not his fault, for reasons I can't really get in to. I want to give him a break in the form of a formidable list and a strategy that goes with it, and I'm hoping by asking the experts we can do this for him.

Give me your best lists that tear apart Nighthaunt. Bring your A game. Target my heroes, deal massive mortal wounds, keep me away from your fleshy units, or whatever it is that gives you guys an edge over me.

    Make it hurt.

Vs Nighthaunt, I would want to avoid paying for rend... so I would MAX out Darkshards. Quantity over quality.

    Hurricanum

    2 Sorceresses

    90 Darkshards (that's 180 shots, I can get 80 of those at 2/3/-/1)

Purple sun (to nuke your hordes)

Balewind (so by Hallowheart horde busting spell can reach you)

Spell Portal (to hit your heroes with mortals)

    1520 pts

What's a 1000pt squig list look like to you guys?

Both kinds of loonbosses, 10 of each kinds of squig cavalry, 2 fungoid shamans, what else?

    You could fit in 1k:
Loonboss on Mangler - Fight Another Day + Artifact of choice
    10 Boingrot
    10 Boingrot
    Squig Herd
    Squig Herd
Squig Rider Battalion - Reroll movement rolls
    960 pts

Probably not the best 1k squig list, but fun!!

The random range is risky but its its no different then the randomness that squigs brings which is why im okay with it lol

Ha... good point. Don't play Destruction unless you like random rolls!!

My Destruction army is mostly Trolls right now, but I recently traded some stuff for a bunch of squigs! Bring on the randomness!

List making while at work. Not sure how effective this would be but it would at least look cool and fun

    Allegiance: Gloomspite Gitz
    Mortal Realm: Ghur
    Loonboss on Mangler Squigs (280)
    - General
    - Trait: Fight Another Day
    - Artefact: Gryph-feather Charm
    Fungoid Cave-Shaman (90)
    - Lore of the Moonclans: The Hand of Gork
    Fungoid Cave-Shaman (90)
    - Lore of the Moonclans: Itchy Nuisance
    Dankhold Troggboss (270)
    12 x Squig Herd (140)
    12 x Squig Herd (140)
    12 x Squig Herd (140)
    6 x Rockgut Troggoths (280)
    6 x Rockgut Troggoths (280)
    10 x Boingrot Bounderz (200)
    Mork's Mighty Mushroom (90)

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Wounds: 172

    Love it!

Have you used the mushroom yet? I don't seem to have much success with it. The random range is frustrating... especially when you accidentally nuke yourself. lol

I wish it had a reliable range. For almost the same points (100) as the Everblaze comet (which goes 36"),  I wish it had a similar range stat.

I want to have a heavy hitter hero too, but I cant decide if it should be a Loonboss on Mangler, or Troggboss. Their points are nearly the same. The main idea is to teleport it behind the lines of the opponent, to make some noise and kill some screened heroes/OB catapult etc. For this I want to have a hero, to reroll charges, to make more chance that the charge is successful after the teleport. I dont know if should choose the loonboss on mangler to make more dmg, but may die easier, or the troggboss to probably put some smaller heroes into its pocket, and maybe make some more noise as it could be more tanky than loonboss on mangler.

    What do you think?

I'm partial to the Dank Boss! Love the model and he can help buff your trolls until its time to teleport him. If you give him Ghyrstrike artifact, he will be hitting and wounding on 2+, rerolling 1s to hit.

My opponent insisted Kroak could not teleport while on the Balewind. We’ve never read the Skaven FAQ. We live in a small town and nobody plays Skaven here.

The relevant section from Skaven Designers Commentary:

Q: Does a Balewind Vortex with a Skaventide Hero atop it
travel with the Hero if they use Skitterleap?
    A: Yes

It's really the only clarification on balewind shenanigans that we have. We know a teleport isn't a "move", so it doesn't violate the balewind card. And this provides clarity for when a model is removed and setup elsewhere... The balewind goes with the model.

I think I'm going to play this list again, but I'm going to have the Slann summon the Balewind and control the cogs from the beginning. Kroak has more offensive spells than the Slann and I was limited in spell range until I gave up the Balewind, although earlier in the game with enemies everywhere, the extra range from the Balewind came in very handy.

Awesome! Great write up. Sounds like it was a fun game! I like the list!

One strategy you can use with that list is boosting Kroak's range with Balewind, Astrolith, and Teleports.

Basically, put your Astrolith right on the front line, cast balewind with Kroak, teleport Kroak (yes you can teleport on the balewind, see Skaven FAQ) forward but stay in range of Astrolith.

Your spells from Kroak should now be +1 or +2 to cast (roll for the +1 to cast from Slann) with an effective threat range of 36" from your front line (teleport to front of 12" Astrolith bubble, 10" spell + 8" boost from Astrolith + 6" boost from balewind).

And then when you are done casting, teleport Kroak back to safety and laugh!

And when running Gotrek...I also ALWAYS take (or switch after turn 1) to Celestial Apotheosis spell for the Slann. It can heal Gotrek!! I've teleported in the Slann close to Gotrek, healed him, and teleported out... to the dismay of my enemy. Haha

-gotrek(ppl here were good about him in serafon and i totally agree)

Yep! Gotrek is a lot of fun in seraphon! We can summon in plenty of extra bodies and have lots of movement shenanigans to make up for his slow stunty legs!

Hi, I am looking to start an Hallowheart army only for double games (2x1k pts).

Would you have ideas of good list to start ?

    Thanks a lot !

Hurricanum would be my first model for any HH list. Very versatile.

I really REALLY like a Sorceress with a max block of Darkshards.

If I were building a 1k list, maybe it would look like:

    • Hurricanum with artifact of your choice
    • Sorceress - General
    • Sorceress - Adjunct
    • 40x Darkshards
    • 10x Bleakswords or other battleline - Retinue
    • 50 pts of endless spells

Those 40 Darkshards properly buffed will put out 80 shots on 2/3/-/1 at 29" threat range.

If I use arcane channeling  command ability on a wizard with 5 wounds can I use the routine to share the damage? If yes, do I get the bonus only for wounds not negated on my hero or the total wounds between the hero and the routine?

Yes, you can send the damage to the retinue... but NO it won't count towards the casting bonus.

The retinue pass off happens BEFORE wounds are allocated to the hero (per battletome page 63).

    • Rolladicebeforeyouallocatea woundormortalwoundtoyour generalwhiletheyarewithin3"of theirretinue.Ona4+,thatwound ormortalwoundisallocatedtothe retinueinsteadofthegeneral.

And the FAQ says the hero actually has to suffer the wounds to get the bonus.

    • add the number of mortal wounds suffered by that Wizard and not negated

So a Hurricanum is almost mandatory for Hallowheart now. And DON'T put Ignax scales on it... that fights against our ability now.

  13. took my Troll list to a 3 game tournament last weekend! Went for a heavy debuff style list. Here is the battle recap:

Here's hoping the Seraphon get in in depth refresh. Of all the factions they seem to really need it, and have to hope GW has been saving the best for last haha.

Will be interesting to see them more prominent in the lore though, given the inconstant backtracking, and retcons  to their AoS lore. They have the potential to be big players on that scene.

Could a big Seraphon + a new SCE Chamber release mark the end of the "Soul Wars" we are currently in?  (Lore n00b here)

I see a weakness as I don't have any real screens. I am not sure if two Fungoid shamans are better than the Troggherd battalion. Was thinking about dropping one Fungoid and maybe the Mushroom to pick it up. Any advice would be great. Not aiming to be a top table army but to win some and lose some while having a good time.

    I like it!

If I were to change anything, id prob drop the mushroom and one shaman to get the battalion. It's expensive, but you would have a 3 drop list!! Which is pretty useful. The extra artifact will buff the Dank.... And you will probably need the starting cmd pt if you get alpha charged.

Maybe another option, a webspinner shaman for 80pts instead of one shaman. Gets a +1 to cast for scuttletide. Also has a VERY useful -1 to hit bubble spell that synergizes awesome with Fellwater.

My normal troll list includes one small unit if shootas... just for some extra bodies, an extra -1 to hit, and so I have a unit to bring back from the loon shrine.

You have to use a Celestial Hurricanum, Lumynark of Hysh, or a Monster caster, then use sear wounds right after on the very model. It's a nerf because now you're almost obligated to heal right after using the CA whereas you could have relied on 4++ against MW with the aqshy artifact.

Yep. Spells are this armies currency... And I don't want to have to spend one to make up for my own ability.

This kills the standard Ignax+Luminark builds for the channeling unit.

    Thanks GW. 😒
