  1. Just played a game vs Living City. Border War. Stegageddon got the win.

    List was:

    • Stegadon Chief - Helm and Nimble
    • EoTG
    • Slann
    • Stegadon
    • Stegadon
    • Stegadon
    • Scar Vet on Carno
    • Scar Vet on Carno

Lost both carnos and one battlline Stegadon. Wiped most of his army by the end.

Only got 1 summons from EoTG out of 5 tries (doubled up twice, only played thru turn 3)

    We played Border Wars.

I sent the two Carnos to the left objective. Two Stegadons to the right. Chief and Steggy up the middle. Left the Slann and EoTG at home objective. Got lucky on first turn and rolled for 10 Warriors to help with bodies.

His first turn he hit the two carnos with basically his full punch. Dreadlord on Black Dragon, 6 palladors, and 6 snipers. Killed off both carnos. (i think i managed to kill 2 or 3 palladors)

The Steggy Chief was the MVP. 2+ save down to a 1+ vs a 5 or less model unit in combat. I basically fought it out over his home objective with two steggies. He missed a critical charge with the Dreadlord into my home objective and i was able to hit back later with the EoTG and kill it.

Just FYI, EoTG rolls thru 3 turns (used 2 cmd pts to double up):

    • Summoned 10 Warriors
    • Heal (no one in range was hurt)
    • Heal (no one in range was hurt)
    • Mortals - 1
    • Mortals - 2
    • Mortals - 2

I mean... Basing your opinion off 1 dice game alone is kind of worthless tbh. Did you trash the old Bastiladon when it rolled 2 attacks on 2D6 too? I did the math a couple of pages back.

Lol, no.... although sometimes I did want to! ;)

I'll still be playing them because I have 3... but I wish Thunderquake had let us keep some rerolls for them. Bastiladons in the current Thunderquake are a strange fit. They had their range increased, so don't really need the run and shoot. It seems Thunderquake was squarely aimed at Stegadons.

What makes you think Bastiladons are trash now? They do almost the same damage as before with double rerolls, but it is much more reliable now.

In Coalesced they can have 2 extra wounds and reduce damage taken by 1. Thats insane against factions that deal 2+ damage a hit like Ironjawz.

My first game with new Seraphon, took 2 Bastiladons in Thunderlizards. Fired both of them twice in my first turn.... killed a total of 2 Sequitors.

Maybe just bad rolls... maybe without rerolls for everything they are just as bad as they used to be outside of Thunderquake.

So can you make a competitive Seraphon army using the new start collecting skinks box?

Not really. Terradons can be good in the right builds... But VERY fragile. Starpriest is a must have in just about every list. Bastiladons are trash now. Skinks are just ok. Nothing fancy... But cheap battleline.

It's curious they included bastiladon in the box. I can't think of any list that would use it.

They used to be awesome in Thunderquake where you could get rerolls for everything. But Thunderquake now just give you run and shoot. Lol.

How would this work with tournaments with pre-placed terrain? I guess tournaments would have to use house rules for it? Or just straight up ban it i guess, if you're playing RAW.

On the OBR terrain piece, GW hilariously FAQ'ed it with basically "Ask your TO". Hahaha... GW doesn't even know how

  7. Just preordered the pyramid.... then read this:

It seems the Realmshaper Engine needs to be placed before placing all other terrain. This means that you need to place it before it has been decided which side of the table you are getting. On top of this, since it's a garrison and it does not specify that only Seraphon can enter, enemy units will be able to enter it as well. So basically, you could be setting it up in enemy territory and then enemy units and go inside and you don't get to use it yourself + it benefits your enemy.

  8. This right here is frustrating rules writing:

Armoured Crest:  At the start of the combat phase, you can pick 1 enemy unit within 3" of this model and that has up to 5 models. If you do so, until the end of that phase, add 1 to save rolls for attacks made by that unit that target this model.

JUST GIVE US A 3+ save on our giant dinosaur monsters instead of this dumb thing that slows down the game.

I would imagine this is fun for a couple of games, then you sit around with a load of models that wont serve any use afterwards

Haha true. I have 5 stegadons/EoTGs right now..... 3 bastiladons… 2 carnosaurs… 2 more carno/trogs unbuilt.... so I hope to be able to be able to field a fun monster mash list!

And then after a few games... play some serious lists. ;)

As of now, yeah - Plus a starpriest.

2+ ignore rend with -1 to hit, possibly -2 with priest spell, possibly -3 with Geminids. 😅

Bastiladons can't get the cover bonus from being garrisoned. They are monsters.

But yes, you could still Garrison them for the -1 to hit and basically turn the pyramid into a pill box turret! Haha

  11. Pretty cool that all the pyramids peices are reversable!

    No new sculpts is sad.

Start Collecting box focused on skinks.... Does this mean Saurus will still be trash tier?

For the summoning allegiance ability, can you get summoning points from non-general casters? And can you cast the summoning spells from them?

Nope. Just the Slann or Kroak when they are your General.

    You can get:

1 pt for a Slann being your general
3 pts per spell you don't cast from that general (can be boosted by Balewind and Cogs)
    D3 from Astrolith Bearer

So the absolute most you could get would be with Kroak + Balewind + Cogs + Bearer = 19 max turn 1 and then 22 every turn after that... and that's if EVERYTHING went perfectly.

So you would spend 450 (Kroak), 40 (balewind), 80 (cogs), 160 (bearer), and 80 (skink priest) to be able to rack up 107 summoning points thru 5 turns.... aka 170 skinks...

So you spend 800 pts to summon 1200 pts.

A "free" 400 pts of models... but you have to give up all your spells.

Not nearly as good as Slaanesh, every Death faction, etc.

I tend to just use the basic Slann and Balewind. Its enough to get about 20 skinks per turn.

Was Gotrek worth it instead of another 3 wizards and other gubbins?

Probably not in Hallowheart. After 3 games, I felt like I needed to lean into Hallowhearts strengths a bit more. More spells!! Although, the army is at the whim of the Arcane Channeling role.... and you WILL role a 1 when you need it most. Ha!

I think my goal list adds a block of 30 Handgunners and more Sorceresses. Those tiny lady wizards are so good in Hallowheart. +1 from battalion. +2 from killing a Dark Elf. Then +D6 from arcane channeling.  I'll probably want to bridge the Handgunners and Hurricanum as the first strike. And then run and shoot with the darkshards.

The Comet was def worth the points. It did a lot of damage to their back line support heroes.

Gotrek did what Gotrek does. Kill lots! In Game 2 he held the middle of the board the entire game vs Slaanesh. People fear him... and rightfully so.

  14. I took a Hallowheart list to a 3 game local tournament last weekend. It was fun. Definitely need to improve on my strategy a bit... but that's par for the course when its the first time on the table with an army.
