  1. I think the box not selling out quite as quick is probably due to some smart design choices to limit people from buying more than 1. In addition to some actual restrictions on buying more than 1, GW did 2 things to dissuade people from getting more than 1:

    1. Hero in the box is a named hero.

    2. Included the limited edition battletome.

These things combined with the higher price limit the value in getting multiples for the sole purpose of stacking up the units to buy an army "cheap." They want you to have to go buy all those more expensive single unit boxes to fill out your army.

As far as my impressions of the faction beyond just competitive concerns, I'm also not a fan. The model range is very limited but is somehow also quite redundant. While wardens and stoneguard are different in some ways, they effectively fill the same role on the battlefield.

This seems like a pretty tough statement to back up with any real facts.

The biggest similarity I can see is that they are both have limited mobility when in defensive posture (Wardens in shining company), but they're going to be fielded in significantly different units sizes, the Wardens with their sunmetal weapons can deal out significantly more damage and have some unique anti charge abilities, and of course their highly noteworthy 3 inch reach.

I think the word you're actually looking for is complimentary. What you see as similarity is actually thematic army cohesion. Both units can play off each other well to supplement each other's battlefield roles (for example by screening the wardens with the Stoneguard).

yea it is a pitifully short army roster isn't it?

Also, the Spirit of the mountain isn't a Hero?! holy cow that is a surprise. no relics for them either, and makes it so that the ideas I had for a big melee hero is nill...

Also, That is a big entry for the Wardens, which is kinda odd. Still, I need more info.

He said it reads that for each unit of archers or horesmen you want to take as battleline, it requires a unit of Wardens.

  4. Don't get me wrong, I think it is a really cool rule. A great nod to classic rank and file. It is also interesting that the archers are gonna benefit from the rule too (makes the least thematic sense of all the Vanari but I guess they are claiming this is due to some blinding light instead of a shield wall effect).  They might be the real winners here since they're the least likely to need to run or charge.

The only strange thing I can see is that it only begins after setting up and you cannot reform it at any time? it doesn't say that you can reform the shining company again after you break it up, so it seems you have to be extra careful of your positioning. it also creates the problem real life phalanxes had, where you cannot travel over terrain or around buildings without breaking the formation.

It seems like a lot of hoops to jump throough for a -1 to hit!

    Shining company rules.jpg

Agreed it is a little ambiguous, but it seems like RAW you cannot reform the shining company which honestly makes no sense logically.

Now I'm not saying this is confirmation of anything. However I posted back in November of 2019, when I took a trip to the UK and visited one of GW's major brick & mortar stores that one of the employees and I got to talking about our shared love for Soulblight and Legion of Blood. He told me that there was internal discussions of a Soulblight specific army end of 2020 or sometime 2021. Now that doesn't really mean much, however he also mentioned of a faction/army that would be coming out in 2020 with models that were "giant" and larger than most anything else in AoS. With Sons being confirmed (and models shown) it seems that rumor was proven to be true. So I can only hope that there is a Soulblight army within the next year.

I would just caution that I remember when you shared this last year and it was after GW had already teased something "Giant" and something related to "Hysh" being shared at Adepticon, so a Gargants rumour wouldn't have been hard to guess at without any inside knowledge at the time you heard this.

$185 is the price of the nighthaunt battleforce which is £110 in the uk. That’s definitely on the pricey side. Assuming the two units are £35 each, the hero £25 and the the regular battletome is £25, we would have a total of £120. That’s not much of a saving. Would much rather have a regular book, no gubbins and the archers. That would make a good set.

The reality is this isn't a regular battletome though. I'm not a huge fan of inflating the price of these boxes by including the collector's tome instead of a normal one though cuz lets face it the production cost for the two is probably almost identical...

So, I don't follow 40k news, but some info has beed flodding into my gaming whatsapp groups. Info that will probably be relevant for AoS future.
Seems like there is going to be a point increase for all units. This seems like a smart move if they want to keep atracting people to the hobby in the dire economic future that awaits us. Not sure how 40k scales with AoS in this regard, but anyway I think we can expect the fantasy game to follow the same route as soon as they can implement it.

There is also table size reductions and apparently some focus in shorter games, which is where modern games are headed anyway, and where they were stepping into with Meeting Engagements.

Again, I think all of this gives a hint on AoS future.

     Thoughts?

    I don't buy it:

    1. GW's financial incentive is to do the opposite.

    2. The brand new Lumineth army appears to have relatively low points costs. A lot of people were expecting a higher points per model than it looks like we're getting.

I agree that with everyone saying we're not going to see new models, but I remain baffled as to the design choices behind it. Not only is Lumineth one of the smaller factions, as has been discussed endlessly, the distribution of warscrolls is really weird. Unless there's some details we haven't seen, there's more hero warscrolls than unit warscrolls, and fully half of the hero warscrolls are unique named heroes (Teclis, Eltharion and Avalenor matched up against Scinari Cathaller, Alarith Stonemage, and the basic Mountain King). There are almost as many named heroes as there are unit choices, especially if the Stoneguard weapon options are part of a single warscroll. Further, we've got at least three mages, compared to a single non-monster melee hero--and even that option ends up being one of the named options.

It feels like it will seriously limit army construction options and playstyles, above and beyond the already present issues with the size of the range. I just don't get the design choices here, especially when combined with the scope of the marketing (which was already in unusual amounts of hype before COVID forced them to stretch things thin). There's a part of my brain that is screaming that there has to be more, even as the rest of it is pointing out that if there were more, we'd have seen hints of it by now.

I wonder if the designers could have concluded that the way the unit leaders will function as mini-heroes fills that gap somewhat?

Is it just me that thought the light of Eltharion was the clear winner in the lightweight competition? And we don’t even have all rules available... there’s clearly no competition between him and the others

He is one of the higher points models in that bracket. Plus, fighting other melee heroes is his ideal matchup. Doesn't mean he is the best overall warscroll in that grouping, especially when considering points. It would be more insightful if we knew just how much he outclassed the others. Was he ever down to 1 or 2 wounds? Did he consistently survive with 4+ wounds in these matchups?

What do people think about the costing of the Lumineth army box?

    I’d guess,

    Spirit of Eltharion, £20?

    10 x wardens £30?

    5 x dawnriders £30?

    LE battletome £50?

    Dice & templates & markers £20?

    Warscroll cards £20?

    That comes to £170.

What do think of my guesstimates?

Well these boxes are always discounted soooo less than that?

@Ian Wallshyeah its is definetly better than no High Elves! :D
I am content with what we have and do not expect anymore - I was even unsure about Endless Spells until they were revealed.
However regarding Terrain: I think that Ship has sailed by now .... but well it is what it is.

Lumineth have inspired me a great deal with Terrain-Ideas, I think a few pages back somebody already linked the Video about making Elven Waystones out of cardboard, by Miscast on youtube --> you should chek it out!
Because of the Wheat on the Lumineth Bases I want to make a Lumineth Farm lol ^^

Edit: Personally the Stoneguard-Helmets grew on me, but People who don't like them could use Shadow Warrior Helmets - they seem perfectly made for this!

Ooh can someone handy with photoshop put together an image of what they'd look like with Shadow Warrior Helmets?

I have been thinking a lot about this release and i am really thorn appart.

For one side i quite like the lore and the stuff in the army box, specially Eltharion. Had the army followed his visual identity (on the helmet departament) i would enjoy it even more.

On the other hand the montain identity is not for me and GW botched Teclis model compared to his artwork imo. Maybe i got spoiled by the old line, where if you didnt like Eagles you could build on Phoenix or Dragons or lions. On the current state of Lumineth afairs, you got horns and that is kinda it.

I was thinking about all the modifications i would have to do to make this work and it seens like so much!

Something that could make me get out of the fence would be understading the very nature of this release. There is so many things that we still dont know for sure, like "Is this all the models"? Is this army coming out in waves? Will Tyrion be a part of it? Phoenix Temple is an ally or part of the army?

While we can make educated guesses about those questions, the truth is that we STILL dont know the answers for sure.  If Tyrion and/or a second Wave is on the way, it will be waaays off.

Right now i have been feeling out of place in AoS. I waited for a High Elf book since release. Models were squatted and Lumineth came with mixed feelings about it. What now? Start over the cycle and hope they get Tyrion right?  (If GW have plans for Tyrion in the near future. While we can guess, we dont actually know that. Maybe they decide to keep him out of the game like Sigmar and have just Teclis running the show).

WH Weekly Tom claims he has a source inside GW that said they haven't even started working on a Tyrion's army concept so don't hold your breath for a Lumineth expansion in the next couple years.

Does anybody have the Lumineth VS S2D White Dwarf already?

I bet S2D are either being wiped off the table completely or they lose horrendously.
At least that will happen unless the Lumineth player does make bad decisions on purpose 🤣

srsly I am interested in that battle report, do we k ow when it‘ll be purchasable (digital version)?

On facebook someone said it was a draw.

I do now think that yes, there is nothing left to be seen within the range. the list of units for warcry sealed that IMO. still, i'm not dissapointed with what we have, I may just need to rewrite the backstory for my army and main characters.

Idk it is pretty disappointing that kit count and warscroll count looks like it is going to be the lowest in all of AOS for an army they super hyped up.

There was an image on P77 of this forum from the white dwarf that showed a lumineth battleline against slaves and there was a very bizzare white shape that looked like a helmet and some pennants that did not match anything we were shown so far.  (on the image it was behind Eltharion) thats my basis on there being at least 1 more unit but I could be wrong.

I agree the picture looked like there could plausibly be something there, but we have the full list from the battle report this was taken from so that seems to shut the door on that angle.

I don't see the benefit for GW to announce the starting up of their factory and at the same time start doing the next week shout out for the pre-orders. Not accounting for what GW has stored of upcoming releases, the start up of their factory most likely will hit some snags (hopefully minor) and they likely want their production to be (to a degree) ahead of demand, product launch and resupply.

I would think they would like to start up their factory and get it working properly before starting up releasing new stuff.

I have to imagine they are starting up their factory this week though which would give them 2 weeks before new releases. I don't see why they'd even need the factory to fill new releases. All that stuff shipped and should be in warehouses already.

Some potentially good news as Boris Johnson has announced that Construction and Manufacturing workers can return to work, wether that includes GW is yet to be seen, unless it just means Manufacturing in conjunction with building.

    https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/live/2020/may/10/uk-coronavirus-live-boris-johnson-to-announce-covid-19-alert-system

I expected they would announce a reopening of manufacturing today which makes me more surprised that nothing is going on pre-order next weekend.
