I think Drycha, hunters, units of 20+ dryads and a single wraith are good choices from our army list. Maybe going 20 x dryads would be a good idea.. but not sure it's that much better really.

I'm new to Sylvaneth but this made me think.  Isn't there a rule with Drycha that allows Spite Revs to get a reroll?  I wonder if they would be a reasonable addition to this type of list?

Got a small rules query I’m hoping somebody could help me answer - when the branchwraith summons dryads into a wyldwood, the spell states that those dryads cannot move that turn. Does that include using the spirit paths to move them to a different wyldwood considering that would be considered “setting up” the unit rather than a move?

Yes, the spirit paths counts as a move.

  3. Just played my first game with Sylvaneth against Seraphon.  Arcane Places.  Spirit of Durthu with Ghyrstrike is a BEAST!  Wiped out a large unit of Temple Guard turn 1, then a Slaan turn 2.  We got booted from the table after turn 3 (one man shop with one table sucks.  Kill Team megabattle was reserved on the one table.  Guess how many players showed up to play that.  One.) .   Got one turn of shooting in with Drycha, then decided to charge Bastilladon to see what she can do in combat, d3 wounds make short work of her.  Next time I'll bubble wrap her in Dryads to keep her shooting the Flitterflies. Need to remember the rule for Wyldwood that units that end charge or run need to roll to see if they die, totally forgot about that.   Anyhow, Sylvaneth was a ton of fun to play and we had a major victory.

  4. Hi all, I have a rules question.  Playing my first game with Sylvaneth tomorrow against Seraphon.  Probably get my teeth kicked in simply because I'll forget a bunch of cool stuff.  That being said.  My question is for Drycha's Colony of Flitterflies...does this need line of sight?  The way it reads in the book I would say no, I haven't seen anything in FAQ about it either.  "10 dice for each unit in range" seems like it is just a bubble.  Thanks for the help!

I'm curious about your list.  I'm brand new to Sylvaneth and this looks like a list that I would like to run.  I was wondering what you would think about running the Dryads units as one 30 and one 10.  That would free up 30 points leaving 80.  That is enough for 2 Endless spells which seems attractive.  However, I was also thinking that if the Hunters were dropped to 3 instead of 6 then you (I) could take Drycha for 2K on the dot.  No Endless Spells.  What do you think?  Not just limited to vesco obviously.  ;) . Thanks for the feedback!

  6. Just to add to the confusion.  If it is one attempt per prayer, what use would the Khainite Pendant be?  The bearer can pray 3 times, but if the best we can do is know 2 prayers (1 + animate avatar) why would we need to pray a 3d time?  Now I am really confused.  Actually, there are a couple of other prayers on the Hag card that are possible to cast.  Just not necessarily that useful.

  7. I'm  a little confuse.  Our Hags can pray twice each in our hero phase. So if one Hag knows Catechism, she prays for Catechism and fails...can she pray again to try to get it off?  Our book says that each prayer can only be prayed for once.  Is that one success, or just roll the one die?  Thanks for any insight.

You're losing out on 60pts taking 3 units of 20 instead of 2 30s and a 10, you're also basically throwing one of the units of 20 away since you don't have a hag queen for it. 15 Doomfires not really  going to do much for you, people have had success with 5 and 10 but getting a possible extra turn out of their spell isn't worth the extra 160pts, especially considering that you're again running into the problem of having to use CAs for battleshock prevention(which you REALLY want to avoid whenever possible)

Cauldron guard is 150pts and also requires 2 units of Lifetakers so it's 100% dead in the water competitively. Taking a bloodwrack shrine, a bloodwrack medusa, and Doomfires in the same list is going to end up being pretty redundant. You also 100% want to choose one of the Temple rules because they're FAR better than anything the generic abilities will give you.

Using the core of what you have here I would go:

    Allegiance: Daughters Of Khaine
    - Temple: Hagg Nar

    Leaders
Slaughter Queen on Cauldron Of Blood (330)
    - General
    - Trait: Devoted Desciples
    - Prayer: Catechism of Murder
    Bloodwrack Shrine (220)
    - Artefact: Shadow Stone
    - Lore of Shadows: Mindrazor
    Hag Queen (60)
    - Prayer: Blessing of Khaine
    Hag Queen (60)
    - Prayer: Crimson Rejuvenation
    Hag Queen (60)
    - Prayer: Sacrament of Blood

    Battleline
    30 x Witch Aelves (270)
    - Pairs of Sacrificial Knives
    30 x Witch Aelves (270)
    - Pairs of Sacrificial Knives
    10 x Witch Aelves (100)
    - Pairs of Sacrificial Knives

    Units
    5 x Doomfire Warlocks (160)
    - Lore of Shadows: Mindrazor
    10 x Blood Sisters (280)
    5 x Khinerai Heartrenders (80)

    Endless Spells
    Chronomantic Cogs (60)

    Total: 1950 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 146

Admittedly I don't use doomfires much so there are probably more efficient builds using them, but this is certainly going to get you some decent bang for your buck.

Awesome!  Thanks so much for the feedback!  I really appreciate it since I am totally new to AoS, let alone competitive AoS.

  9. Curious how you all think this list would do in a competitive environment.  I'm trying to use what I have, but I'm not opposed to purchasing stuff if need be.  Think this comes in at 1990 currently.

Slaughter Queen on Cauldron Of Blood (330)

    - General
    - Command Trait : Zealous Orator
    - Artefact : Thousand and One Dark Blessings - Prayer : Blessing of Khaine

    Bloodwrack Shrine (220)

    - Lore of Shadows : Mindrazor

    Hag Queen (60)

    - Artefact : Iron Circlet
    - Prayer : Sacrament of Blood

    Hag Queen (60)

    - Prayer : Catechism of Murder

    Bloodwrack Medusa (140)

    - Lore of Shadows : Mindrazor

    UNITS

    20 x Witch Aelves (200)

    -Pairs of Sacrificial Knives

    20 x Witch Aelves (200)

    -Pairs of Sacrificial Knives

    20 x Witch Aelves (200)

    -Pairs of Sacrificial Knives

    15 x Doomfire Warlocks (480)

    BATTALIONS

Cauldron Guard (100)  (think this changed in GH18? what should I modify to fit this in, or is it not worth it now?)

    Thanks for the feedback!
