  1. Im a bit sad that the female Stormcast look so much better than the male ones. They have less ridiculous shoulder pads and their masks are a lot nicer. Even the armour looks better with the slighter build and subtler details. And I’m sad because I would so collect Stormcast if the males looked as cool as the females.

100 internet points to whoever called the silhouette as a nurgling.

While we were all pretty sure it was coming, it's certainly nice to to have official confirmation of a Nurgle battle tome. Looking at him compared to the other models, how does he compare to the FW model for those that have seen on in person?

I think most people did... was pretty obviously a Nurgling with that horn and the Beast sneak peek we'd already had.

I would actually recommend listening to the podcast Garagehammer's reviews of the bottom half of the image (Quest for Ghal Maraz, Balance of Power, Godbeasts, and Sir not appearing in this image, All-Gates). I mean, you could buy them, but that actually costs money. David is pretty exuberant about the fluff and gives thorough coverage of it. Really hard not to recommend the podcast if you aren't looking for competitive AoS.

I stopped listening to Garagehammer so I haven't Heard those episodes, but  I would recomment the excellent Mortal Realms podcasts which has an entire episode for each of the campaign books and also the novels. Brilliant episodes that go through these books basically chapter by chapter in an engaging way.

Don't forget that the Cauldron doubles as a Bloodwrack Shrine, which is also in faction and also rather affordably priced for the army.  Four of these boxes would get someone 40 Witch Elves/Sisters, 2 Cauldrons of Blood with Hag, 2 Bloodwrack Shrines with Medusa, 2 Hags on Foot and 2 Medusa on foot.  That is a fantastic start to this army and you'd only need to fill in with a couple boxes of Witches/Sisters, Warlocks, or allies to be set.

$400 is quite a lot for a "start" to an army!

I dont understand the allies thing. So if i play 2000 points match i can take 400 points of allies. Do the allies have the same allegiance ability then? Do they get the keyword of my main faction? Can i still build a grand alliance chaos army like now or im i only allowed to pay 400 points in other factions?

From what I understand, your allies don't gain anything from your main faction and vice versa. The point of the allies system is to make it possible to mix different factions without losing the allegiance abilities of your main faction. I doubt that there will be any sort of keyword sharing, battleline sharing or anything that gives you additional advantages. Simply being able to take allies is enough of an advantage.

That was true for metals (given I have held the great weapon Wood Elf lord from 2005 in my hand which is resin).

Plastic models are sculpted in CAD.  But lets have this amazingly said more often.  Cause it never hurts to be snide on a forum.

...and then cast in resin for box shots etc before the plastic mounds are ready. The 'eavy metal painters said as much on Warhammer TV, so you're wrong there, and the rumour photos in resin are most likely pre-production plastic kits.

  7. 25mm square instead of 32mm round is a huge advantage as you can attack with two ranks instead of one, meaning double the number of attacks. That's the only case where base size makes such a big difference though that I know of.

edit: oh yeah cavalry going to big ovals, that's probably the biggest issue since the 25mm<32mm can easily be houseruled to 25mm=1".

  8.  Is a one-week, book only release. If Death got a book and no new models people would be furious. Come on guys, it's extremely likely Death will get a huge release with tons of new models, a new aesthetic and a new faction with matching fluff. It's not something you can squeeze in between 40k releases, they will need a full month.

  9. Flyers in AoS could be very cool since they would lack the biggest problems with flyers in 40k:

    1) They are too fast to be on the battlefield for any significant amount of time

    2) They fly too high and thus have to be very hard to hit

Flyers in AoS could be slow, lumbering warmachines that move closer to the ground, making them more like behemoths and feeling a lot less shoehorned in than in 40k. An airship for example could have dwarfs with long pikes poking at people on the ground. Would be very cool :)

I have seen several people saying the points cost of kurnoth hunters should go up. I believe if this happens it will nerf the entire army. Sylvaneth doesn't have much in the way of variety and hunters are the only hard hitting unit they have. Sure, Durthu hits hard, but he is over costed. Someone stated earlier that several Sylvaneth units are over costed so I believe it all balances out once it's all said and done. There are plenty of ways to deal with greatbow kurnoth hunters. Also, it's worth noting they don't have a way to increase their piddly 50% chance to hit. They are good but they are needed to keep the army competitive.

It's basically already confirmed to be happening from the Heelanhammer podcast.

I just can not believe Nottingham is this locked down leaks wise.  A big release this close and still nothing in the wind.  GW spymasters hard at work.

Well they sort of shut down some rumour monger by giving them free stuff and making them promise not to reveal until preorders...

  12. Uhm, how long are Twitch archives stored? I can't find any Warhammer TV broadcasts earlier than december, I though they were stored forever? Yes, I'm a subscriber.

Also, why does Twitch suck so much for archived content in general? No making your own playlists, no easy way to see what you've already watched, everything is just a jumbled mess...

So I've been arranging my chaos models today to fit some new purchases in an I couldn't help notice how much the new tzeentch head looks like the one on archaon mount .

Does this mean we've seen a preview of what the new GUO will look like when it's announced?

And considering how much alike the tzeentch head is, does this mean they've already made a mould for the GUO

What it means is that they have a library of CAD elements for Tzeentch that they reuse and modify for different models. So the new Tzeentch head is most likely based on the same template as the Archaon head, modified slightly. It doesn't indicate they're doing any other greater demons, and in the case of Nurgle we know that the Glottkin was supposed to be a GUO at first. So I don't think we'll see a new one anytime soon.

As the Errant Questor is missing, does that make it invalid also?

I think it would be prudent to wait for an FAQ which will undoubtedly come before making assumptions. But unless GW explicitly states that the battalion is invalid for matched play, assume it is valid.

He is a Warhammer World exclusive and not on general sale, I would equate him to a Forge World model, none of which are in the GW books. Hopefully GW will clear this up and I'm hoping they will disallow any old stuff in matched play. Otherwise what's the point or doing an update? Leaving things out is as much of a design choice as putting new stuff in.

I should have been much clearer on my squbble being with the design principle, not with "another army gets something better than mine".

That is a field I simply do not care about, particularly with narrative and open play around. It has been the standart as far as I go back with the hobby, that, competitively, there are stark differences between the armies. I am ok with that and do not particularly care if my army choice ends with me handycapped (or the opposite) in a tournament or matched play pick-up game.

However, I do care about good game design and to me, the prayers make sense neither for gameplay nor background reasons.

From a gameplay perspective, spell lores are great for the game, since without them, wizards are actually a bit weak and uninteresting, particularly with the rule of one in effect. It makes even more sense from a background perspective, it is pretty traditional in fantasy for various wizards to learn different spells for themself and you never know what an individual enemy spellcaster has up their sleeve.

The same is not true for priests. In gameplay, priests where already working quite well and as intended, there was no need to boost them or make them more interesting. Unaffected by the rule of one, you could include multiple priests of the same kind and they still did their job. And background related, it seems quite odd to me that a god would grant different abilities to priests of the same rank. Prayers aren't like spells, that you learn and research by yourself, but powers granted by your god. Why would two Warpriests of the same rank be granted different miracles?

There is also another design fault in Prayer Lores. Spells have the additional dial of casting difficulty, giving far more space to differentiate and balance (in the sense of not making one spell striktly better than the others). The success rate of prayers is flat, since it depends on the warscroll of the priest and not the prayer itself, making balancing the prayer much tougher. This means we are one further design mistep away from the a particular prayer being an auto include and cast at nauseum (remember, no rule of one).

The dig at no seperate pointcosts for Enlightened on foot, on the other hand, was pure sour grapes on my part, I will freely admit. I would love to have a unit of 9 enlightened, simply because I like how it looks, but as things stand, I simply can not justify the cost in money and time of the unit to myself.

These new Prayers do have a casting difficulty, but it's on D6 and not 2D6. Check the leaked images.
