Can't remember off the top of my head, but I'm sure that somewhere it's referred to as the Celestant Prime was previously a ruler from the Mortal Realms?

I'm not sure it says mortal realms, but It certainly refers to him being a ruler of sorts. Saying that, he could be both. We aren't certain how Balthasar (Balthas) came to be a Stormcast. It could be that they were reincarnated as mortals in the new realms before being a stormcast.

  2. Spoilers for Soul Wars

Prior to the Soul Wars novel, its was (fairly) argued that Celestant-Prime could not be Karl Franz, due to the fact Franz belonged to a different world and had simply perished.

However with the advent of the Soul Wars - It is heavily implied that a Lord Arcanum, known as Balthas Arum, was in fact at one point Balthasar Gelt of the old world. Whether he was reincarnated as mortal in the realms before becoming a storm cast - or whether his soul was preserved from the end of the 'World that Was' is up for debate. However what it does show is that non-gods can somehow be preserved from the Old War in one form or another.

Does this mean that Karl Franz' soul has been recycled as Celestant-Prime? Given he is once again Sigmar's favoured champion and once again wields Ghal Maraz? Or not? Or does it really matter?

    Thoughts?

There's no settled top 3 armies yet. Should we all go out and buy Magma dragons? Or normal dragons? Or new Stormcast? Or nighthaunt? Or DoK?

The no support comment is utterly ridiculous. It's a new edition drop, with not only two new armys ( two battletome, a full new range) but an expansion and a generals handbook.

I do wish people would stop commenting on the state of AoS based on a narrow faction view. Out of interest, blueshirtman, what do you play?

Yeah I’m not sure I understand the negativity here. This has been a massive year for AoS and just because nothing was announced here, I highly doubt that’s the last update for the year.

Be positive that AoS has gained some huge momentum this past year. 40k getting updates just means more money for GW, more money to develop some new products for AoS.

Either its Chaos Dwarfs or Warherd. Either way, it must mean something!

(or it's an endless spell anyone can use...)

    WHFestLiveBlog-August18-FlamingBull-1dl.

I think it’s specifically for an army, as the article states we will find out who it is for.

    hopefully Warherd/Brayherd!

I play Sylvaneth as my main army, and nighthaunt as my second. The only thing I am scared of from nighthaunts are spirit hosts and their mortal wounds (you can also buff them with spirit torment rerolling ones). With a unit of 6 statistically you kill one big tree in 2 turns and they won’t get killed by him. Other than that you can try banshees buffed, but at 1k I don’t think they are worth it.

Guardian of souls is a must. You will charge through woods (if he is smart placing them), that means you will be loosing 1/6 of your guys, but you can return them with gos spell.

Yeah agreed - i'd swap out the KoS for GoS, Grimhailer can fill a similar role to KoS.

Getting 20 models in with an 8" fly is not a huge deal even with 1" reach. The problem with running 10 or 15 is that they wont hurt what they kill very much, which means they'll get hit back harder, and your unit is smaller to start with = less models left to keep on fighting, and/or not enough models left to take advantage of retreat+charge next turn into a juicy easy pickings unit. Also getting the last 5 for almost half points makes taking 15 hella inefficient.

I think a unit of 10 is probably playable for flank objectives if you want to fill the battalion cheaply and/or need somewhere to shave points, but outside of the battalion 10 Grimghasts would do that job better. I wouldnt want to be putting 10 of them into a main line of battle.

Because they are cheaper and the range? Rerolling hits?

Bladeghiests can also reroll (near a torment) and can have 3 attacks each of your turns (retreat and re charge).

Grimghasts are cheaper and are battleline but Bladeghiests do not need to be discounted automatically.

I ordered mines: 2 boxes. That's 20. With that, I can do the bataillon or the units I want.  Id like to see their efficiency as a harassement uni of 10, or a hammer unit of 15 (20 seems overpriced especially with range 1"). I'll see what I can do with the bataillon with 2*10 (I'd prefer 15+10 but I don't have them).

Yeah I think I'm going to grab 2 boxes and run 2*10 for the Shroudguard with the Grimhailer

I was using a unit of 30 Grimghast Reapers last weekend and did ponder if Grave Guard would have served better.  The answer I came to was that it was 50/50.  In a couple of games the smaller base size would have been very useful - the models tessellate better (no overhanging bits) and double damage would have meant they kicked out more wounds into my opponent.  In other games that better move and save meant the Reapers had a lot more impact on the tabletop - and I mean a lot.  8" and bringing back with gravesites & DI meant that I could sweep from one side of the board over to the other more easily than Grave Guard would have allowed.  What I would say though is that anything like the Geminoids that can rattle out a -1 attack hampers Reapers a lot.

Overall can you give us a run down of how your Nighthaunt played? Strengths, weaknesses? Surprising units/or synergies.

  9. Very excited for DoK in AOS 2 - yes our battalions aren't the greatest, but we have one of the most blendy battelines of all time. I current have about 1500pts of DOK and I'm looking to buy Morathi to push me to the 2k.

With Tzeench being hit hard, now is our time to become one of the most competitive armies.

    For the Shadow Queen!

Craven King will be a pain in the ass for some armies, if you get that 5+ roll :D Especially if you happen to get it 2 or 3 times in a game! Nothing I really dislike about the Craven King.
Lady Olynder is probably amazing, but I was expecting more. I was actually expecting more of a heal and pure support/Spell caster from her.
Grief Stricken, though, seems like an amazing support spell, so I am not saying the character is bad. I was just expecting something else, for some reason.
I love the model of Reikenor, and I also love some of it's abilities. But I can't shake the feeling that Reikenor is more situational than the rest of the characters revealed..

Agreed, to me Olynder looks the best - she has a number of ways of pumping out MW and debuffing enemies and raising up units. Seems like a solid Lynchpin but probably easy to kill with only 7Ws and a 4+. Very excited to get her first though.

Whether FT materialises across the faction or not, I’m still keen and have high hopes for NH. From batreps that I’ve watched, without all units having FT, NH seem pretty good anyway. Their main bonus is that they can take any slap that’s thrown at them.

Yeah this is how I see them too, rather than the MW aspect. Very resilient 'attrition' army that will wear down an opponent.

Attractive to me as I currently play DoK which is the polar opposite Glass Cannon!
