So, mabye you guys have already seen her, but Raging Heroes brought a new Dark Elf Queen who is quite obviously supposed to be Morathi (-Khaine):

I think she's pretty awesome and superior to the regular High Oracle sculpt. I suppose she's a little cheesecakey, even for DOK standards, but her pose is just far more regal and majestic, fitting her new role as goddess.

Considering this was basically Morathi's outfit in the Old World this seems rather appropriate.  Now we just need a Shadow Queen version to match this one.

I had my second game of AOS3 last night.

Admittedly, I wasn't playing Soulblight. I was running 9 Stormfiends into Tzeentch with Archaeon.. and I did basically no damage to him through his layers of buffs. Even though disrupting some of his buffs, I barely did any damage.

I don't see a lot of rend in the Soulblight book. And no shooting. A lot of mortal wounds from spells/6s on melee attacks (which would be rerolled by him).

The hell does Soulblight DO against a monster like that? Tarpit?

I would be curious to see what the rest of his list was. Because depending on what else he had I would ignore Archaeon and keep him occupied with trash troops while the rest of your army wins the game through objective points. If it was Archaeon and just mobs of horrors...well...the speed bump game instead of the killing game would probably be your best move.

You could always do what I did, build Lauka Vai, but swap the hand and sword arm, they fit fine and having the sword up should help make enough of a difference! If not, you'd probably be looking at greenstuff-ing hair or a face.

Exactly what I did. Regular VG has the raised sword arm and the female torso and head. And then I gave Lauka Vai GS hair to differentiate the two.

After going to the local store and having a chat with the manager, I learned something new. Because of the changes to how pile-ins work, a unit that can fly and can pile-in 6 inches can reasonably jump over a screen, and attack what is behind it. Something to consider.

It still has to be the nearest unit IIRC, but definitely more flexible now that it is not model to model.

I'm amazed at the tactical flexibility of having so many units that can fly. Popping behind a unit on a charge it something I look forward to trying in the future.

  5. So I'm liking the potential of putting the Master of Magic command trait on a wizard and giving them the Arcane Tome artifact. Boosting a level 1 wizard to a level 2 with rerolls is amazing. Good potential boosting with the many generic casters we have in this army.

After seeing the new 3.0 rules, how is everyone feeling about the Avengorii dynasty? With smaller units across the board, an Avengorii MSU list seems like it could have great potential.

I'm feeling pretty optimistic at the moment. With the buffs to monsters and the fact that less armies will be taking giant hordes is going to be super helpful to monster lists. Also, considering that some of the generic artifacts are better than the awful Avengorii Dynasty artifacts there could be some super great combinations.

Likewise, I do think Vengorian Lords are one of the quiet winners here. Have access to the hero and monster actions, can attempt to heal with the heal action in addition to the Hunger, can Monster shout at people to shut down their command abilities, blocks -1 rend, etc. My estimation of that piece (along with the Mortarchs, obviously) is going up in an MSU world.

Edit: multiple generals is also strong as this army will use CP well

My thoughts exactly. Heroes that are also monsters are going to be stellar in what they can do! And the good news is IIRC monster actions and heroic actions are different than command abilities and can still be used if the VL or Lauka Vai fail their undeniable impulse.

Was thinking of starting an Avengorii Dynasty army. So wanted to be sure about one thing: The FEC Start Collecting Box, do you get all the bits to build Vargheists and VLoZD/Prince V?

    Thanks!

Yep. The FEC Start Collecting has vargheists and the entire Terrorgheist/Zombie Dragon/VLoZD kit.

Anyway.... in terms of Avengorii looking over the warscrolls I'm definitely thinking that the Zombie Dragon just isn't great without a rider compared to the terrorgheist since it still has its potentially 6 mortal wound bite attack. Are there any situations where having a regular zombie dragon stomping around might actually be better? I know it gets lots more claw attacks and its breath will do more than the shriek against high bravery enemies but I'm not sure if they're enough to justify taking one over the terrorgheist for a monster mash.

This is also what I would like to discuss, having only ever faced Terrorgheists on the battlefield I know how dangerous they can be. I'm leaning towards Terrorgheists but would certainly like to know the merits of Zombie Dragons.

It's alright, just time to be super abusive with units.

Vengorian Terrorgheist Avengorii spam, time to play some games.

This is literally all I want to play right now. This and possibly all Blood Knights. I just love the Lauka Vai model and want her to lead an army of nightmares.

Except that the prayers in the list are not called Invocations.  It doesn't seem to be the same as Khorne.  It looks like you only get 1 prayer total now.

Previously you could chant 1 prayer from the warscroll and 1 from the book. But it looks like it's only 1 prayer from any the priest knows. That sucks, but that makes the relic that lets you chant two prayers more valuable now.

Quick question about the Masters of the Shadowpaths ability. The last line says "That unit cannot move in the next movement phase." However - it doesn't say "in your next movement phase." As written, if your opponent takes the next turn, they cannot move in that movement phase. After their turn, if initiative falls back to you, they'd be able to move in that movement phase.

    Is this interpretation correct?

We won't truly know until we get an answer in a FAQ, but I agree with this current interpretation. NEXT movement phase vs YOUR NEXT movement phase being the key words here. Still a strange stipulation when there are many other abilities in the game that do not have this requirement. We shall see!

So the new tome has a really cool piece of art of the avatar shaped has Morathi. Does anyone has any ideia on some head swaps that could help make something similar? (I don't have the avatar, so I'm unsure of it's head size comparade to the shadow queen or morathi-khaine models for example)
