I had up to 9 of them, resold FEC halves of carrion empire then seeing it was a good deal, sesold some more halves of skavens. Result: 3 arch regents, but finaly sesold one.

I think that 2 is the reasonable max in a balanced list. One is often almost autoinclude. 2, far less. We already have the opportunity to play many list with FEC.

Yeah they currently sell for 59.99 USD...which is silly for an infantry hero. And I assume GW will eventually get around to releasing them in a clamshell...

I don't think this kind of list is good - only funny!

It would be much better bringing something like this:
    2 x Archregent
    1 x GKoTG
    3 x Terrorgheist // Battalion Menagiere
1 x 30pts Endless (Like Barricade to help with board Control).
    1 x Throne
    1850pts // Meaning 3CP + 1 CP (Battalion) + 1CP on your HP = GKoTG Summon + 4 Double attacks with all TG turn 1

Plus you still have 560pts of summon, 2 Artefacts and less Drops!

Ha, yeah, this seems far better. I guess that was my point. Getting 800ish points of free dudes seems nice, but there are probably much better strats to take advantage of.

The most difficult part : finding those 4 archregents!! (or kit bash them....)

Yeah, once I saw the prices (and that GW hasn't released a stand-alone kit) I just decided I'd be kitbashing my archregents anyway, whether I'm using 1 or 6. ;)

  3. Yeah, if you stand all your archregents next to a throne they can all poop out their mans turn one for no points. Not necessarily going to be the best strat every time, but it is possible. Also in a list like:

    4 x Archregent
    4 x Terrorgheist
    1 x Throne

It takes you from fielding a 2000 pt army to a 2800 pt one in like one second flat. And supplements your monster mash with 80 chumps that you can send off in four different directions. Not sure if it's great, but it seems "good"

  4. Has anyone tried playing a 4 archregent 4 terrorgheist Gristlegore list? I feel like crapping out 800 pts of ghouls for free turn 1 seems good...but I am not sure if giving up the utility of certain delusions or battalions is worth it...

I would maintain that Underworlds remains the best put-together ruleset ever to come out of GW (apart from LOTR), easily leapfrogging any edition of 40k or WHFB/AoS. Both tidy and characterful. There's a lot that can easily be transferred over into a non-hex-based format. Throw in bottle's Hinterlands stuff and even a sniff of the campaign rules from Necromunda and  it'll be far from watered down.

Oh I am not saying that the rules aren't tight for Underworlds, that was pretty much implied in my "board game" comment. That's just not a paramount thing for me. For my money Underworlds kind of pulls on the tedious bits of games like Magic and Malifaux, without really coming through on the flavor (or narrative, but I admit that's not the point of Underworlds). Underworlds and Kill Team both make me feel like I am playing on rails, not something I am very interested in as a gamer. Warcry feels (obviously we don't yet know) like it will be in that same vein. So again, I just don't understand why we need 3 games with that similar structure/style. I was hoping for a more Necromunda/narrative style game and didn't get it. That's my disappointment, but not necessarily everybody's.

  6. Necromunda is a good skirmish wargame, though not my cup of tea. Underworlds is a board game. Kill Team is boring, watered-down 40k with unappealing add-on rules. Won't even mention AOS Skirmish, because it is literally AOS with less models.

I was also sorta including Shadow War in there, which was fun but the rules throwback was too much for some people. I enjoyed it though.

Said with the experience of having played all of the above many times. These are my opinions, feel free to attack them I guess, but I don't see why you would need to do so.

  7. Yeah, this is undoubtedly more of the same watered-down/dumbed-down skirmish stuff we've seen from them in recent years...with monopose boring models to boot. Oh yeah, and it's Chaos-only. I'm not saying they should reprint Mordheim exactly word for word, but it's something people have been asking for for years now. New rules and new plastic modular kits. Nobody asked for this. If you want to play a boring boxed-in game you already have 3-4 options. This is a real disappointment.

EDIT: That sounded real pessimistic, and it was, but if I had to give a "neat" thing about this I guess it was those fury/gargoyle looking models. There will no doubt be great pieces for kitbashing out of this line...but GW seems to have committed themselves down the road of releasing a metric tonne of mediocre board games they can't possibly support long term instead of a couple of solid but expandable properties. And that is a development I do not like.

  8. Hello spooky scary skellingtons. I have a bunch of Death models/kits sitting around and I have wanted to start on an army for a while now, so I think I am finally going to get cracking towards a 2000 point force. I was thinking something like this as the "core" of my army:

    Vampire Lord General on Steed
    - Lord of Nagashizzar
    - Ossific Diadem
    - Amethystine Pinions
    Neferata
    - Overwhelming Dread
    Wight King on Steed
    Black Knights
    x 15

The idea here is to wrap the characters in Black Knights and buff the Knights up to 5 attacks each (2 base, 1 from WK trait, 1 from VL trait, 1 from LoN) on a turn where I can virtually guarantee their charge on something (base 6" with horn). This will hopefully wreck weaker units (BKs are dmg 2 on the charge), or tarpit stronger ones (with Neferata's aura and Overwhelming Dread giving their biggest threat -2 to hit). Neferata's Mist spell also basically turns them into Hexwraiths for the turn (Ethereal and fly).

    So my questions are:

    • Is 15 BKs too many? I know they are large-ish models and possibly won't all get to swing every time in combat, but I felt 15 would put them in the spot where they won't be wiped out in one combat either...
    • Does this strat even make sense?
    • What would be good to compliment or support this? I am thinking of adding Lady Olynder and a bunch of chainrasps. Olynder can add to the -1 to hit shenanigans, and is an overall good dmg/pts piece. Chainrasps would be my battleline and would stand on points/near graves in my territory to hold the fort.
    • I have a VL on dragon...I hear those are good. But 440 points is a lot! Should I try to squeeze him in? Keep in mind I don't want to hit 2000 exactly as I would like a few extra CP to get my traits off when I need them.
    • I am taking the VL on steed both for the modeling potential, but also for the extra attacks (why not?) since it will be taking Pinions anyway. I see people choose the wings over the steeds (and still take Pinions) a lot though...is that just to guarantee fly?
