Wyldwood

Question

17.1.4 Wyldwood terrain...

Owk, i don't understand the following in the rules :

"Visibility between 2 models is blocked if a straight line 1mm wide drawn between the closest points of the 2 models passes acrross more than 3" of a wyldwood terrain feature..."

What does GW wants me to understand...? What does it mean ?

Thanks a lot!

Greetzzz,

C.

Usually line of sight in AoS is determined as "true" line of sight, if one model could "actually" see the other model, then you have line of sight. This is an addition to that which makes it a little bit more complicated.

If there is a wyldwood between two models, even if parts of the target model are visible through the terrain, they might not have line of sight to each other. To check, you determine what the closest point on each base is, and draw an imaginary line between those two points. If that line doesn't cross over the Wyldwood, then they have line of sight. If it does cross over the wyldwood, then you have to check how much of it crosses over, if it crosses for more than 3", then even if the models can physically "see" each other, they do not have line of sight.

Here are some quick MSPaint diagrams:

Model A and B cannot see each other. There is a wyldwood between them, so we draw an imaginary line between the closest points of each model (the blue line). It crosses over the wyldwood, so we measure how long the portion of the line that crosses the wyldwood is. In this case it is more than 3", so the models do not have line of sight to each other, regardless of the core line of sight rules.

Model C and D can see each other. There is a wyldwood between them, but when we draw an imaginary line between the closest points of each model, it doesn't cross over the wyldwood. This means we determine line of sight as normal.

Model E and F can also see each other. There is a wyldwoof between them, so we draw the imaginary line. It does cross the wyldwood, so we measure how long the portion of that line that crosses the wyldwood is. Because they are near the edge, the line does not travel more than 3" across the terrain, so we determine line of sight as normal.
