Yes, as per the recent FAQs if you do not give any artefacts to a PRIEST then you could skip the artefact from that Stormhost. A similar thing can be seen in the Fyreslayers (Lofnir lodge) and Orruk Warclans battletomes.
Aha, I missed that in the FAQ. Sounds good!

It's a strange aesthetic that doesn't fit the vibe of Stormcast being an 'elite' army. That's just my opinion, of course. In terms of gameplay, I think it makes it difficult to design interesting battalion/stormhost abilities while also considering how they would scale out of control if applied to a unit of 30+ models. For example, the old Vanguard Wing battalion was really weird thing to play against when you could teleport a unit of 30 Liberators, but maybe with only 20 models it could have been fine.
This is a fair point that admittedly I hadn't considered.
3 hours ago, PJetski said:In the case of Raptors, I limited their size to fix the current situation of their synergy with the Anvils of the Heldenhammer command ability. On their own Raptors are a fairly inefficient and fragile unit, but when they can double their shooting output they become absurdly powerful. If Longstrikes are limited to 6 in a unit then it becomes less effective to buff them (you need double the command points), which means maybe they don't need to cost 170 points per 3 models, and then maybe the could be usable in lists other than Anvils.
Perhaps here it would be possible to boost the Raptors a bit as it seems that the Anvils of the Heldenhammer CA is the main problem. What if you give the Longstrikes a Headshot on 5+ and the Hurricanes -1 Rend for example and put some limit on the Anvils' CA instead? The would give the Raptors more value for their points and makes them more useful in other lists as well.
3 hours ago, PJetski said:I thought about making Paladins a 3+ save. I went with a point cost reduction instead, since a 3+ save would make it harder to add any kind of save bonuses to the army. I may still consider making them a 3+ save and raising their points back up.
I see where you are coming from here. I was more thinking from a more thematic point as the models themselves are much bulkier than most of the other Stormcast. I'm still in favor of making them more durable somehow.
3 hours ago, PJetski said:I'm not sure how to balance battleline Dracothian Guard. If they are battleline then they become spammable, and if that's the case you need to raise their point cost. They are already barely playable at their current costs so I thought it might be better to indirectly boost them through improved Stormhosts. A big unit of Desolators in Knights-Excelsior is going to do some really nasty things in the combat phase!
Again, I'm coming from a more thematic point here. I see the problem though, perhaps it would be possible to put some size limits on them if they are battleline units? Perhaps that is just making it unnecessarily complex though.
3 hours ago, PJetski said:My next pass will have Command Traits for the Aquilor! I was thinking one would let nearby gryph hounds strike first, and another one would allow him to charge after using Ride the Winds. Still working on it.
Those sound really good!
3 hours ago, PJetski said:I think the reason we have a Knight-Zephyros is because the model comes with two different head options. You can run Neave and a Knight-Zephyros side by side with two slightly different models. Gavriel is a very distinct model with no opitions, with Hammers of Sigmar iconography all over him, so I'm not sure it would work to make a generic Lord-Celestant out of his model.
Maybe this stems from the fact that I put a helmet on my Gavriel and in fairness most of the early Stormcast do have quite a bit of Hammers of Sigmar iconography on them. I would see this as pretty much the same as using Vandus as a generic Lord-Celestant on Dracoth or Astreia as generic Lord-Arcanum on Dracoline which I believe is not uncommon.

2. For Stardrakes, I think their damage output in combat are too low. maybe sacrifice some of their abilities (Cavernous Jaw and Sweeping Tale, etc) and buff their combat damage. (Change their great claw to rend -2 and D6 damage). So, they can fight one on one with other monster.
3. Change all “re-roll failed to hit/to wound/save” to “re-roll to hit/to wound/save”
Agree fully on 1 and 3. Not sure we'd need to sacrifice any abilities from the Stardrakes, I think it's fair to simply up their combat damage to get them on the "new" monster level.

This is very impressive! I really hope you will bring this to GWs attention when you're done. This is definitely a big step up from our current battletome. I especially like how these changes make the rules much more thematic for the various stormhosts and units.
Some feedback:
For the Hallowed Knights artifact you state "The first HALLOWED KNIGHTS PRIEST". Does that mean that other non-priest heroes could get other artifacts than this one first thereby circumventing the artifact rule of the stormhosts?
I don't necessarily think it is needed to reduce the maximum size of Liberators and Raptors, I think having the options of bigger units is fine as is.
I would suggest having Paladins with 3+ save, after all they are wearing much heavier armor, or alternatively some MW save option. This might mean their points would need adjusting.
As the Extremis Chamber is the only one that is not possible to play legally as a "pure" chamber I would add Dracothian Guards as conditional battleline if the general is a Lord-Celestant on Stardrake.
It would be cool to have separate command traits for Lord-Aquilor as well as Lord-Celestant and Lord-Arcanum.
39 minutes ago, PJetski said:I would rather make Liberators more useful rather than reducing their point cost
I like this approach a lot more than point reductions. For Liberators with shields I would like to see some kind of tanking shieldwall ability in order to hold objectives longer. Something like forgoing attacks gives +2 on saves and a +5 MW save and also counting wounds rather than models if on an objective.
40 minutes ago, PJetski said:I have plans to update all the Hammers of Sigmar heroes, and add at least 1 named hero for each Stormhost.
This sounds really good as well. I would also be interested in seeing general warscrolls for the current named heros that do not have one like Gavriel for example (maybe he's the only one?). That would then be a Lord-Celestant with a Sigmarite Runeblade and a Sigmarite Thundershield as an example.
Really great work!

From looking at the recent poll regarding what age you started wargaming it seems I had a longer journey to get here than most of you.
My gaming background is initially role playing games, 2nd Edition Dungeons & Dragons to be precise and mainly the Forgotten Realms setting. I spent a few years playing that pretty religiously in the early 90s and still have most of the books and boxes that were released back then.
I always played computer games on the side, mostly FPS or RTS and went pretty deep in on the competitive side in the early days of Counter-Strike. When I discovered Dark Age of Camelot I was seriously hooked, and since then my computer gaming has been mostly covered by MMORPGs (and probably 90% of that being WoW), although much more casual now for many years than at times in the past. I haven't played WoW for around a year now though, so maybe I've managed to shake that addiction finally!
I was always aware of Warhammer, back when I was buying my AD&D books I would see the Warhammer guys with those massive and pretty damn cool armies in my then LGS but I always told myself that the effort to get to a big army like that was crazy and that I couldn't paint anyway so I never really gave that a proper consideration as a hobby to get into.
Fast forward a whole lot of years. Just over two years ago (at 44 years of age at that point) I was in Gothenburg with my wife for a weekend when we happened to walk past a Warhammer store. We went inside out of curiosity as I wanted to see what had changed since the early 90s. Turns out it was a lot! We were both amazed by the looks of the AoS miniatures and even if we didn't buy anything that day we talked about getting a box or two and trying out this painting thing.
After much thought and many visits to the GW webstore we ended up picking our factions. My wife went for Slaanesh (and has since expanded into Tzeentch) and I, against my own expectations, ended up with Stormcast. I really liked the models but the gold wasn't really doing it for me and I was kinda leaning towards some chaos or death. Eventually I found pics of silver armored Stormcast and that was it, I was sold.
So just over two years later we have 6000+ points of various Chaos and 13000+ of Stormcast and no end in sight.

The price increases haven't had any impact on my buying. I still buy what I want / need, or perhaps more accurately what my wife allows me to buy 😄

I will admit that I was hoping for a Tauralon in the SCE boxed set, but this looks pretty good. Depending on price I might even get two of those. Only kinda useless figures would be the two extra Lords Exorcists I'd have then.
But definitely better than the last one with all the Gryph-Hounds 😄

Missed that, then. That seems pretty inconsistent.
Errant Questor also had his points in the box. That's why I was expecting points for this one as well.

Exactly. Which is why I expected to find her points there as well.
-
I recently got my hands on the store anniversary model of Larissa Shadowstalker and expected to find her points in the box. However, there is no mention of any point values in the box, so should I use the points of the regular Knight Questor or is she just not match play legal? Or am I missing something?
-
It's impossible to draw any meaningful conclusions from vague statements like those.
For all we know IDK selling below expectations could be outselling Dispossessed selling above expectations by a massive margin.
It should be safe to assume the expectations are not the same for those two factions.

My aim is to do some hobby stuff every day that I'm home. My problem is lots of business trips though, cutting down on available hobby days.
So far so good though

Some mighty impressive collections here.
I'm at 11.000 points of Stormcast but unfortunately only at just over 2.000 points painted so I don't think I'm at the picture taking stage yet.

I'm in process of putting 5 together. The grandstaves (weapons) are not a singular model in the sense that the staves all have different looks to them. The top of the staves can be anything from a spell effect to a sort of mace-looking thing. The evocators themselves essentially come with two different sets of arms, while the bodies retain their overall poses. The poses are cool-looking, but they are not quite as pose-able as you would imagine (making me wonder how much variety you might get if you had a massive army of them). They look cool though, and the models are very big and imposing.
On the topic of the Evocators sprues. In the description on the Games Workshop page it says that it's possible to assemble a male prime, a female prime and a Knight Incantor out of the Evocators box. Is it possible to build all three out of a single box? If not, what options are there?

Is it just me or does the male Knight Incator look a lot more like the Evocators armor wise than the female Knight Incantor?
Although he has a lion head motive on both is chest and staff that neither of the others have.

On the new battletome this sequitor is labeled as "Hallowed Knights Sequitors conversion" and he is in the section that showcases the 'eavy metal team's work. With a fast research I've found that the sword comes with the "Lord-Celestant on Stardrake" kit, it should be a Starbound Blade.
Damn shame. I was hoping for an additional hero. Looks really good.

In fact, I think you got one dubious kit here.
5x Castigators? That's not even a matched legal unit. They would release a 6x multipart kit. But with no options on the warscroll, why would they? Plus, has there be any hints of Castigators besides the SW and easy to build models?
You are right. That's a duplicate from the Soul Wars list. And according to the podcast the Asteria kit is a pushfit so it will be interesting to see if there will be separate kits for her and Lord Arcanum on Dracoline as well.
-
There are quite a few kits in this release and I don't think they've shown us all the models yet on warhammer-community. By my count there are 12 boxes; Soul Wars, 3 small pushfit boxes and 8 multikit boxes:
Soul Wars
- Lord Arcanum on Gryph Charger
- Knight Incantor (female)
- 5x Castigators
- 1x Celestar Ballista
- 3x Evocators
- 8x Sequitors3x Castigors (+ Gryph Hound)
3x Sequitors
1x Celestar Ballista5x Castigators
5x Evocators
Lord Arcanum on Dracoline / Asteria
Lord Arcanum on Tauralon / Aventis
3x Evocators on Dracolines
Lord Exorcist
Lord Ordinator
10 x SequitorsAnd no word if the Lord Arcanum on Gryph Charger and the female Knight Incantor will be available seperately.
Then there are the three models they haven't previewed yet:
Knight Incantor (male)
Lord Arcanum on foot
Sequitor Hero with sword and shield
Am I missing any?

Thanks guys. We'll try the 60mm. Do they sell them at the GW shops?

My wife just bought a Lord of Slaanesh on a Demonic Mount and it comes with a 50mm square base. I checked the list and the round size is missing for that model, and we're not quite sure what to put him on.
What round size are people using for that one?

That is a good point. Probably would be less of an issue if it was not possible to increase the range from 24" to 30". But then again, you're probably right that the size limit is the easiest limitation overall.
