  1. Hello fellow Arkanauts!  I was hoping to get some army list input from you folks.  I haven't played my KO since AoS 2.0 dropped due to other hobby interests, but my local group is starting an Escalation league and starting at 500 pts.  It sounds like there isn't a 2 Battleline requirement, but that remains to be seen.  So I'm currently struggling with two ideas and welcome your input and thoughts on a good/fun 500 pt list:

Skyport - Urbaz with There's No Trading with Some People  -likely take Aethersight Loupe to help counter magic

    Khemist - 160 pts

    10 Arkanauts with 3 Light Skyhooks - 120

5 Thunderers with 1 Aethermatic Fumigator and 4 aethershot rifles (Fumigator helps reduce incoming attacks so these guys can screen and withdraw, to protect the arkanauts)

Now - either 10 more Arkanauts with 3 Light Skyhooks or 3 Endrinriggers for some melee help or high movement objective grabbing

    Thoughts?  Thank you!

  2. I don't know, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.  Why would they take away the ability to fly over a unit while grapneling?  It would eliminate the most useful aspect of the ability, particularly against armies with many units - they could effectively deny you most of the table.  We would have to try and fly over or around the offending unit and then grapnel somewhere?

You might be right actually. He wording fo fly from the rules says that "verical distance is ignored whenaking a fly move". Therefore you can move with grapnels over enemy units and be more than 3" away from them as you can techncally fly infinitely high.

This does still mean that you can't shoot them out of combat though so it is still a nerf just not as bad.

I had never thought you could shoot them out of combat, so that might explain why they tweaked it to clarifying you can't use it when within 3" of an enemy unit.

Grapnel launcher nerf? Did I read that right? Can no longer move within 3" of enemy units at any point during the move.

Well, I'm not actually sure how this affects us, as they fly, so technically they are not within 3" or any unit during the move until they "land", right?  I think it is just clarifying that we can't use the grapnel launchers to end up closer than 3" of any unit.

Along with the Wizard. He is pretty good, great to have on the backline protecting your other Wizards/Priests/Shooters

Not sure, as if you read the wording, it presumably affects ALL units within 3" (no exclusions or specifications), so you don't want it near any of your units!

The aelves, duardin and the humans are in the fluff nowadays sort of combined folk. If I have undersrtood correctly, there are no aelven cities, let alone states, where they could draw the armies from. Thus  a battletome that would reflect the evolved fluff and have all of the free people fighting better together would be ace.

Well, to clarify, there are aelven cities in the Realms of Light and Shadow (Daughters of Khaine for example), however, those humans, aelves, and duardin which were in Azyr now form mixed armies.  However, in the books, they do tend to segregate themselves a little, even in Azyr, as they still prefer their racial communities.

In my opinion GW is moving away from a completely matched play approach and focus mainly on open and narrative play. In open and narrative play battleline and limitations do not exist. Matched play seems to be still supported, so that you can still play at tournaments. But if you look at the last releases they were mostly focussed on the setting and the narrative. Also the non-matched play battleplans and the Time of War rules seem to be better designed and suited for interesting battles.

I have to say I am very happy with a stronger focus on the setting and the narrative than to just cater to the tournament players. I think AoS is a game which can be played at tournaments but seems to be better suited for open play and narrative play. The best battles that I have played on the board weren't often fair and always involved a lot of random events occuring on the board.

I also think we as players shouldn't see matched play as the only viable way to play. And I think GW also tries to encourage narrative and open play more by releasing start collecting boxes with no battleline choices.

Well stated and I agree with you completely on all your points!  It just surprises me, as most games I've played (even narrative, Firestorm, etc) still use the Matched Play points system etc to setup the game.  Having a Battleline unit included would make that easier for most people who start a new KO army.  But again, I echo your sentiments and appreciate the support we are getting from GW regarding narrative play and lore/background.

Can they do this on a massive scale? you do know realmgates are massive in size? like several miles across. several armies and fleets can march out of them at once.

Actually, based on what I read, Realmgates come in different sizes (Nefereta has several within her palace), they are not all that large.  In the book Warstorm, I read last night that the Silverway  was 300 ft tall and 100 ft wide.  So, not even close to miles.  While only the Skaven can gnaw holes between realms, other factions are able to use magic/rituals/artifacts to open portals to other realms, and of course, we have now heard about secret "Skyways" or sky realmgates which the Kharadron and other flying forces can use.

Would be really nice to get a full army release for [insert army here]. GW seems to be moving away from that type of of release in favour of minature releases tied to boardgames/campaigns/skirmish game systems etc. While im fine with smaller, more sporatic miniature releases, it would be nice for the collectors/hobbyists to get a full faction release from time to time that isnt tied to a narrative release.

Well, we did get the Kharadron Overlords this year, which was a new faction and unrelated to any of the items you mentioned.  Hopefully Aelves and other factions will get similar treatments.

Its Wednesday right? Right. Just trying some stuff out for bases. Although I fear I need to get some tufts or something. It’s fast but not really inspiring as of yet. (Trying to go for a fire realm meets shadow realm )

Looks very interesting!  I do like it!  Another thing to consider using is black sand.  I picked some up at a pet store and it may also help integrate the fire/shadow theme - volcanic rock or ash tainted by shadow.  Or, some of the base with black sand with ash alongside.

Hm I don't think so, the Changeling used Maliti's identity to create Tzeentch cults and corrupt some realmstone deposite in the new cities, but they are still two different persons. (And the Changeling does not create "new"identities, he copies existing ones).

Oh! So Maliti was still a real person?  But what happened to him then when the Changeling was using his identity for so long?  I'm assuming he was "disposed of"?

I just had an illumination... Okay, it's "educated" guess at best, but :

    I think the Herald Of Order will be the azyrite architect Valius Maliti (cf. the Seeds Of Hope and Disciples Of Tzeentch fluff) ;

    For 4 reasons :

    1) He is already named in the fluff, so there must be a reason for it. (And the Knight of Shroud, Herald Of Death, is a also named character).

    2) He is the one who lead the construction of many of Order's new cities. So he can be seen as "representing" many factions, as those cities are "multicultural".

    3) IMO Malign portents is a more than just 4 new heroes. If it's huge, there will be new factions too (like Nurgle, Darkoath, Deathrattle, etc.) and there will be new sceneries. As Warhammer TV and Hastings said (supra), we think those sceneries will be for Order, i.e. new buildings / fortresses. If those come in 2018, it ties again with Valius Maliti nicely, as the architect of those cities.

    4) The feather here (and the little parchment in the corner) makes many people think of a "Free people" character. Again, that could be Valiti (cf. the Marco Colombo mini for WFB).

    RumourEngine-Sep12hrvs.jpg

While I like the idea, it unfortunately won't work, since the Disciples of Tzeentch Battletome reveals that Valius Maliti was actually The Changeling in disguise.  He posed as the architect so they would build many of Sigmar's cities on realmstone - a powerful magical substance - which would make corrupting mortals easier and feed into other plans.

  13. I'm going to echo what others have said and that it looks good thus far.  I sometimes try to change me mind mid-painting and regret it.  Once I've done washes and highlights, I find I often got an effect I liked.  So try not to judge too early!  Or perhaps, take one section and do the washes/highlights/details and see if it meets your criteria.
