Neither of these really address the root issue of the rule at hand. The fact is they did CHANGE THE ABILITY once heroes were a thing.

They did not.  I have GA book and original Abilities Card from card pack and Chosen of the King reads exactly the same, to me.
    Am I missing something?

Picture of Abilities Card, red border box is from the GA book.
They seem exactly the same to me. No changes.

One note: sorry if I sound a tad bitter, but I suppose I actually am.  These GA books have been a huge disappointment. They're full of typos, inconsistencies and things that don't make sense. Honestly I'm a bit sick of GW attitude about rulebook writing. I'm seriously considering to  start to  rely on russian websites to provide myself rulebooks, for the time to come.

New book adds symbol for Chosen of the King to normal crypt horrors

Nope. This wasn't added in GA book. It's always been this way. The phisical cards are this way. It's just they messed up the ToC2019 and swapped in the Leader runemark.

Also, I disagree with your conclusions because:
    1) Crypt Horror Leader (Haunter? Can't deal with GW stupid names) did have the rune for Chosen of the King already when Heroes weren't a thing, and since the rune doesn't do anything by itself, seems logic to me that it was there for a reason (access to Chosen of the King).
    2) Point costs wise, the Infernal is already a better option for a Leader. Way better. Strip the Horror Leader of Chosen of the King and nobody will evere use it. Ever.

Really, the only "right" way to apply rules in GW games is on a case by case basis, as I wrote above. Thinking you'll find consistency in their rulebooks is just vain hope.

Given visibility can only ever be within the context of the fighter, I'd say that the definition of friendly fighter is also from the perspective of that fighter and, therefore, excludes itself.

If so, why specify "another visible friendly fighter" in Gloomspite "Boogeyman Dance" ability?

Truth is, GW wording in writing rulebooks is pure ******. They just don't give a sh*t in writing their books properly (the amount of  errors and inconsitencies in GA books is disheartening) and since we still flock to purchase them, why they should ever change this?

As for me on this particular issue, I'll apply the "visible friendly fighter" statement on a case by case basis, depending on what makes more sense to me (my group).

  10. I'd like to gather in one place all the changes brought to previous cards/stats by GA books.
I'll start this with physical cards, listing what has eventually changed, then if there's interest, this could be expanded into Allies, that have been changed so much that I don't know if it's even worth trying to track the changes...
I'll add what I have, one item per post. Feel free to contribute.

  11. Disclaimer 1:
Some of this has been already discussed in FEC thread, but I just noticed some discrepancy I'd like to discuss.

    Disclaimer 2:
I haven't received yet my GA tomes, so I'm basing this on M&M and ToC19 books.
If something is different in GA books, please comment below.

There has been some discussion regarding the FEC ability Chosen of the King. The ability reads:
A fighter can use this ability only if they are within 6" of a visible friendly fighter with the Leader runemark.
Until the end of this fighter’s activation, add 2 to the Attacks characteristic of attack actions made by this fighter that have a Range characteristic of 3 or less.

    [ToC19, p.120]

The discussion regarded if the Crypt Haunter (a leade  who has the associated runemark) can use the ability on himself.
Some says no, cause Visibility rules (Core Book, p.35) always consider two bases/models in their description.
Some says yes (including me) cause the Core Book (p. 35) specifically says that unless rules says "other" friendly fighter, a player considers all fighters in their warband to be friendly fighters. And Chosen of the King doesn't says "other". Plus, the associated runemark (Elite) doesn't have any rulings by itself (like for example Fly or Mount), there are not any other ability associated with this runemark so there will be no point in giving this runemark to a model if it could not use the associated ability.

But then there's the FEC ability  The Royal Hunt, that reads:
This fighter makes a bonus move action. Then, they can make a bonus attack action.
In addition, add 1 to the Attacks characteristic of that attack action if this fighter is within 1" of a visible friendly fighter.

    [ToC19, p.120]

Now, if the above interpretation (if wording doesn't specify "other" friendly fighter, a player considers all fighters in their warband to be friendly fighters) is correct, the last part of this ability would not make sense, as the model using the ability would always be 'within 1 of a visible friendly fighter' himself.
So, the correct interpretation is that a model can't be considered a visible friendly fighter to itself?

    Well, not so fast.

The Gloomspite triple  Bogeyman Dance reads:
Pick another visible friendly fighter within 6" of this fighter.
Until the end of the battle round, add half the value of this ability (rounding up)to the Move characteristic of that fighter.

    [M&M, p.63]
So this ability specify "another visible friendly fighter", this would be redundant if a model should not be considered a  visible friendly fighter to itself, isn't it?

    So what's the correct interpretation?
If a model is a visible friendly fighter to itself, the last part of The Royal Hunt has no meaning to be there, but if a model is not a visible friendly fighter to itself, specifying "another" in Bogeyman Dance would be redundant.

To date, nothing is in the faqs  in this regards. If someone could check if the wording of these abilities is the same in the most recent books, would be great.

As for me, I will just play Chosen of the King considering the Haunter is visible to himself and The Royal Hunt as if it specifies "another" friendly fighter.
Until we'll get some official interpretation, at least (if we'll ever get one).

  12. I've asked on Warcry Fb group, too, and the consensus is that Crypt Haunter can actually use Chosen of the King.

To me it can for the following reasons:
    1) Rulebook specifically says that if the rule says "other friendly fighter" a model cannot target itself. and Chosen of the King does not specify "other".
    2) Why giving the Hauter the Elite runemark, that doesn't have any "intrinsic" rulings  (like Mount or Gargantuan, for example), if not to grant him access to the ability?
    3) Last and more important: because if Crypt Haunter can't use Chosen of the King, I would ALWAYS use the Crypt Infernal as a leader, and nobody wants this :P

on page 35 of the rule book it is written:" If a rule forn an action or ability preformed by a fighter refers to 'other friendly fighters', it means fighters for the fighter's warband, excluding itself."

in my opinion a leader (Infernal or Haunter) can't use Chosen of the King on himself. Tell me if i am wrong, but it is clearly in the core rules.

I disagree. Rulebook at p.35 specifically says: "If a rule for an action or ability performed by a fighter refers to ‘other friendly fighters’, it means fighters from that fighter’s warband, excluding itself." while Chosen of the King refers just to friendly fighter (with the Leader runemark).
So, in my opinion, Crypt Haunter can use the ability. Otherwise while bother giving him a runemark with no use?

  14. Ok, finally got Start Collecting FEC box. How I am supposed to assemble them?
I was initially thinking on Bat leader, Bat and Big Ghoul, as the obvious list -totally at exactly 1000 pts- is:
CRYPT INFERNAL (LEADER) (300), CRYPT FLAYER (235), CRYPT HORROR (190), 5x CRYPT GHOUL (55)
But looking at their stats, it seems to me that fielding two 10" flying monsters could be annoying to the point of making the game unfun for my opponent (and possibly me: getting an easy victory once in a while is nice for a good laugh, if it becomes the norm it would easily make me lose interest in the warband).

I also have already ordered off eBay a set of torso+legs to make a third Flayer to have a full unit for AoS.
So I will be able to actually assemble 4 of them: a full unit of whatever I choose plus one non-leader of the other type of warrior. And I was thinking about assembling a full unit of Horrors and just one single Flayer (non leader) instead.
But list building seems a bit more problematic this way. Some options I have jotted down are:

    Crypt Ghast (125) (Leader)
    2x Crypt Ghoul (55)
3x Crypt Horror (190) - I would have to proxy one with the leader model
    Abhorrant Ghoul King (185)
    Total: 990pts / 7 bodies

    CRYPT HAUNTER (LEADER) (255)
    CRYPT HORROR (190)
    CRYPT FLAYER (235)
    5x CRYPT GHOUL (55)
    Total: 955pts / 8 bodies

    CRYPT GHAST (LEADER) (125)
    2x CRYPT HORROR (190)
    9x CRYPT GHOUL (55)
    Total: 1000pts / 12 bodies

    CRYPT GHAST (LEADER) (125)
    2x CRYPT HORROR (190)
    5x CRYPT GHOUL (55)
    ABHORRANT GHOUL KING (ALLY) (185)
    Total: 965pts / 9 bodies

    CRYPT GHAST (LEADER) (125)
    CRYPT HORROR (190)
    CRYPT FLAYER (235)
    4x CRYPT GHOUL (55)
    ABHORRANT GHOUL KING (ALLY) (185)
    Total: 955pts / 8 bodies

    CRYPT HAUNTER (LEADER) (255)
    2x CRYPT HORROR (190)
    3x CRYPT GHOUL (55)
    ABHORRANT GHOUL KING (ALLY) (185)
    Total: 985pts / 7 bodies

Problem is: I would like to have one flying chap in the warband AND I am not very fond of the Ghoul leader.
This leaves me with just the second build (in Italics) that wastes me 45 points.
I have to admit, though, that the 12 bodies list looks fun to try :)

Ok enough talking, sorry for the wall of text. What's your opinion? Eager to read comments and suggestions.

  15. Me too. As curious as I can be in regards of the new rules, the box is too expensive to me. Especially considering the terrain included: half of the content is stuff I already own (sure, the more the merrier, but new stuff would be preferable) the other half is made of doors (not the greatest and useful only in Catacombs games) or scatter. Adding the fact that one of the many aspects I love in Warcry is that it's played in three dimensions (and you loose the vertical aspect in Catacombs), I really cannot justify the price. With the same money (or slightly less) I can get two warbands and one terrain set. Which is preferable, to me.

  16. Besides the fact that AoS warbands may be unbalanced to start with, there's another factor that adds up in making Warcry warband against AoS warband a quite one sided game: the fact that most people usually don't have multiple boxes of any Warcry warband and so tend to play with the warband as 'out of the box' while the AoS ones are cherrypicked from a larger collection.

Not saying that AoS aren't more diverse and so prone to unbalance, just that the fact that they're often custom lists, while most of the times Warcry warbands are made of what's in the box adds up in making the comparison unfair.

  17. Hi, at some point "Killing Grounds, a fanmade overhaul of Warcry campaign rules, was made available. I have v.1.0 but it seems now that it has been updated to v.2.0
Unfortunately the original link seems broken now. Maybe there is a chance that someone here saved the file and is willing to share it with me? :)

  18. I was reading Theddra Skull-Scryer's warscroll, and nothing seems to stop me from adding her to an army without adding the Godsworn Hunt.
Warscroll Builder allows to add her independently for 70pts. A note says "Mortal Wizard - Unique (Includes Godsworn Hunt)" but then charges another 60pts for the Godsworn Hunt.  I tried a random list with just her on it, and got no error message, but I don't know if WB checks the validity of an army, beyond the battlelines.
I would appreciate feedback on this.
