@Domowoj, thanks for the run down! I totally see where you're coming from with your criticisms of the LoA's Command Ability being at odds with the bonus of the Battalion. But being honest the LoA is there for 2 reasons: filling out the battalion's requirements to allow me to deep strike, and then making Pusgoyles Battleline. His unique Command Ability didn't factor into my plans at all beyond it being a nice tool to have there if I needed it down the track (sneaking on objectives late in game).

Its really the deep striking and Battleline status of Pusgoyles that, for me, made the army viable gamewise rather than just a neat modelling project. Being able to deposit 1 or more units T1 right in the opponent's face is a fun tactical approach to the game, and if I end up in their territory its a bonus 3 Contagion Points, putting me at at least 7 halfway through Turn 1. The more and more I generate, the faster I can summon a unit of 20 Plaguebearers which in turn covers the glaring weakness of this army; so few boots on the ground.

Of course the LoA can always use the generic Command Ability to give rerolls to charges instead of the movement boost right?

Here's a backup list that doubles down on the theme...

Lord of Afflictions (General, Witherstave, Grandfather's Blessing)
    Lord of Blights
Sorcerer of Nurgle (Blades of Putrefaction)
    4 x Pusgoyle Blightlords
    2 x Pusgoyle Blightlords
    2 x Pusgoyle Blightlords
    6 x Blight Drones
    Affliction Cyst

The battleplan is to try and farm as many Contagion Points early on. By my count I have 4+D3 first turn, followed by 7+D3 Turn 2 if I can keep enemies out of my territory and the one or two units of flies alive in theirs. If I then keep the unit of 4 Pusgoyles on the board with the unit of 6 Drones sandwiching the LoA, with the Gnarlmaw nearby, that's still a whole bunch of movement bonuses there that can feasibly farm for that Turn 1 charge - even moreso if I take the bottom of T1 and at worse play for the double-turn (which of course comes with its own problems).

Another option is to drop the Battalion completely, start with all the flies on my side of the board, and instead have a unit of 20 Plaguebearers in the army.

Decisions, decisions.... Regardless though, it'd look very pretty (or heinous) on the board!

I love the idea of this and have been thinking about an Affliction Cyst list for a while now.

You talk about trying to generate Contagion points to get the bodies on the board.  Have you considered fitting Horticulous into your list?  That would give you and extra tree turn one asa well as another daemon hero for your drone locus and a tanky hero!

I also think a big unit of either plague monks or Marauders is a good option to make up the points as whilst not as survivable as the plaguebearers they can be cheaper for bodies (and monks are deadly)

Really interested in how this goes for you, please keep us updated!!

Congrats! Are the lists posted any where?

    Congratulations.

Do you think that you will do a write up of your experiences at the event.

I’d also be interested to read your thoughts on how you play your list, anything you would change about it and weaknesses you think it has.

Hey guys, just picked up the SC and the Nightfeast box to start these guys off.

Advice as to build my first GK on a ZD or TG?

For me it would depend on what you plan on building with the big guys, horrors or flayers, I've always felt the Zombie Dragon works better with Horrors than Flayers.

Terrorgheist with grim garland works nicely with flayers as they are all getting a buff to their scream attack

  4. A question I've been pondering on the Courtiers rules for returning slain models.

If we are now playing that units can grow above their starting value (as in ghoul patrol)

Can we do the same with Slain models? (to grow a unit bigger than it started if we have the slain models spare)

The Ghast courtier for example; the rule say return slain models to nearby unit of ghouls.  Yes I know the models have to have been slain but it doesn't say which unit they have been slain from.  Could we use this to take the Slain models from one unit and add them to another above it's starting size (as long as we have enough slain models for the increase)

    As an example...

Say use Ghoul King command ability....those 10 ghouls die, next turn use the ghast to grow my unit of 30 above it's starting 30 with those 10 slain models?

I'm just curious as can't seem to find anything definitive on this in the rules??

I was on table 1 against Ben for game 5 with my Nurgle. Sadly though I played the Scenario pretty poorly and it got away from me. I wanted to bring it home for us but after playing 4 games very well, the heat and exhaustion took it's toll on me :( Debating whether or not to take my Nurgle to Eggs, see if I can grab that one.

    Fantastic result though!

Was a great event although as you say the heat was intense.  I only managed 38 with my Maggotkin after losing 2 games over the weekend (two armies I don't think I could have beaten so pretty happy)

What was the list you were running for the event?

+140 actually. Also, technically, the Exalted has a WORSE  noxious bile shooting attack because it will eventually degrade down to a 5+ to wound, where as the GW version only degrades down to 4+ to wound.

Anybody going to the AoS open day tomorrow that could ask in person about why the Exalted Great Unclean One May have been nerfed so dramatically?

It just seems strange to me that it is worse than the plastic one and costs more both ijnpoints and £

They will probably nerf them mammoth next year , like they did with the Exalted Greater Unclean one this time, even if it doesn't see any tournaments.

I didn't even expect to see it included in this year's document since they phase out everything they don't sell so it was a big surprise to see it get a retouch.

Especially since it is a model out of production that they no longer sell, i don't have faith in them keeping it a "reasonable" warscroll in a future revision.

I predict we may see it re-released like the rogue idol.

especially if rumours of a Slaves/everchosen battletome are true

    It’s utterly bizarre isn’t it!

so much so that I’ve actually dropped an email to Forgeworld just to see if there was an error made?

That is really too bad.  It wasn't worth the points difference before but at least it was good.  Now it is just worse for way more points compared to the regular GUO.  I really don't get how they do rules/points sometimes...

I agree, trying to remain positive, but can’t see what it gets for that extra 120 pts beyond 2” extra move...

extra attack on the sword but doesn’t have any other weapon profile like the regular GUO

same save, wounds, shooting, regen, abilities etc

(no buff options though bell/dagger etc)

Seems like a more expensive model (points and £) with worse rules?

Odd business decision or just mistake??

  10. The other thing that the new FAQ has us losing is Pestilens Battalions in a Nurgle List.

Perhaps not as widely used as Plaguetouched but the same logic applies:

Pestilens battalion so it and everything in it becomes allies, which would take it over the 400 pts of allies.

(Although I tend to agree that the wording is ambiguous and could be read both ways at the moment.  I think the intention is to take away things like the Everchosen Battalions from Nurgle armies, but as was shown by the roll off for first turn issue it is impossible to know what GW actually intend.)

They just need to make it clear if, when a unit is taken as part of a warscroll battalion it is that allegiance despite what ever other allegiance it may have. I am going to plan for the worst though and start looking at other options and remember the good times had with Plaguetouched.
