  1. I find it it hilarious that the choice of argument about balance is Idoneth vs FEC. Like you do realize that Idoneth are a top tier army and FEC are no where near their power level, right? You can’t just flatly compare one specific ability vs another specific ability, you’ve got to include the whole package as Idoneth seem to be getting by just fine with that command ability the way it is now, whereas FEC definitely need something to boost them up.

The way things are now that spell alone would not be enough to bring FEC onto the top tables, but it’s a start depending on what else they get. Remember what was said before, FEC have a very limited selection of units and very little variety between those few units. If the army is a one trick pony, then it needs to be able to do that trick better than most other armies, so you will find situations where yes this one spell/command ability is just flat out better than the one in this other army, but there will be other factors in play to help balance it.

There is an ability called Feed on Dark Magic on Vargulf's Warscroll, so it is probably just renamed to be shorter

The token is actually for Feed on Dark Magic, so it’s likely just a marker for that. The ferocious hunger 1/2/3 is likely for the regent’s spell which looks to be “Casting value of 6 (8?). Pick a unit wholly within 24” (18?) and add D3 attacks to their melee weapons.” Everything the regent does just looks slightly better than a regular ghoul king:

7 wounds, 7 attacks, heals a flat 3, cast/unbind 2 spells, D3 attacks on his spell, and his command ability can summon a courtier, a unit of 3 revenants (likely to be flayers or horrors) or 20 serfs (ghouls). Now only if we could take him on a terrorgheist!

  3. I’m pretty happy with the release. I wasn’t expecting anything more than a revamped book, the endless spells and terrain piece are a bonus. Of course I’d want some new units or a plastic varghulf, but I expected GW to follow their release model for 40k and just knock out the old AoS 1.0 books in rapid fire order with limited new models and mostly just a new book with updated rules.

"All WIZARDS in a LEGION OF BLOOD army know an additional spell from one of the Lores of the Dead."
"A Vampire Lord on a Zombie Dragon is a WIZARD."

I can't see where it specifiies which Lore of the Dead a Vampire Lord has to be. Is this in a FAQ somewhere? (Sidenote: I should probably go read the FAQ for this book...) Can you give me a page number or a reference?

Pg. 70 under the Lores of the Dead.

Deathmages can only pick from the Lore of Deathmages. Vampires can only pick from the Lore of Vampires. Deathlords can pick from both. And just in case you were wondering, a Guardian of Souls in LoN cannot pick from either Lore as it is not a Deathmage, Vampire, or Deathlord.

It’s Bill Souza (not Ben) but I still love you all 😉. Twitter has spoken and it looks like I’ll be taking FEC to LVO as well. I just can’t seem to put them down haha.

I read your review Darren; how are you getting pinions on Arkhan? If I’m missing something and I can take it I absolutely will but he can only choose if in allegiance correct?

There are definitely a couple things wrong in that guide. I don’t believe there is any way to give Arkhan pinions outside of being in a LoN list, as those spells are specifically alligence abilities. Also in the guide he states using pinions on the GKoTG which is impossible as pinions only affects the caster, it’s not targetable.
