Do we know if the Kruelboys getting split from Orruk Warclans? Have there been any rumors along that front? With the retirement of bonesplitters I was wondering what they were going to do with orruk warclans moving forward? I could see either consolidating them into one cohesive force with the clan differences tied to detachments, keeping them as is, as two semi-independant armies with an option to mix and match, or splitting them into two entirely different forces.

I don't know if they will be split for the index or battletomes, but splitting them up for Faction Focus makes the most sense to me. At least if they will remain two separate factions as in 3rd.

I'd add Cities of Sigmar, Gloomspite, Flesh Eater Courts, Slaanesh and Nighthaunt to possible early single hero tomes as well.

Honestly, as much as I would like some new units for Kruleboyz, I think you can add them to the list as well.
I'm expecting only a foot hero for Kruleboyz along with the tome. Maybe some new units at the end of the edition.

    That's crazy if true.

HALF a year left and nothing else?!...

Well it's not really half a year.
Skaven and SCE will most likely get additional models along with their battletomes in september/october.
Then I would guess one or two more battletomes +single hero for the next 1-2 factions in november/december.

    - The factions that had announced removed warscrolls could be the first books.

What makes you think that's the case?
And which factions are you referring to specifically?
BoC and Bonesplitters will just have free to download PDF battletomes.
Slaves to Darkness just had the warcry warbands removed.
Skaven and Stormcast will be the first two books 100%.

So the remaining factions with removed models are Sylvaneth, Gloomspite, Seraphon, Khorne and whatever faction Mistweaver Saith belongs to.
But these were just 1-2 warscrolls per faction.

  5. I'm thinking we shouldn´t pay too much attention to the Spearhead warscrolls because the real warscrolls could differ a lot.
But do we actually have any concrete evidence of this?
Which warscrolls have we seen both versions for, does anyone know off the top of their head?

Do we think we will get all new updated Spearhead boxes upon launch/into the 4th? Or just a simple reboxing of the current Vanguards?

I think only reboxing now, and even that will take a while to roll out.
Then the boxes could be updated when each respective faction gets it's 4.0 battletome.

What was the last dual kit of this type? Slaanesh Twinsouls? It feels like this kind of thing is not very common for AoS anymore.

Real talk, back when the squatting of Beastmen was only a rumor people were saying "why doesn't GW just go out and honestly say this stuff instead of leaving us to speculate? If they have bad news just tell us openly."

And then they told the bad news openly, and everyone's having a ragevomit about now.

Maybe the people who asked for GW honesty aren't the ones raging now?

Edit: Also, you can both be upset about the range cuts and appreciate the GW honesty at the same time.

  9. RIP BoC and Bonesplitters.

To me, Bonesplitters was expected. And also BoC to some extent, although I would've really liked to see something Chaosbeastly replace them.

Seeing the whole Sacrosanct range get removed is a huge surprise to me, considering that they're not that old.
Good to see the bloated stormcast range get reduced, however.

For me the most negative part of this news is what it could mean for Warcry.
Maybe all warcry warbands moving forward will be directly linked to an AoS-faction with inherited specific aesthetics.
Which to me is a bit sad because I liked that Warcry allowed for more creative freedom in the design of warbands.

They'll be in the bin again.
Kruleboyz are notoriously hero heavy. even 3 drop might be a stretch.
Ironjawz will be in a similar spot unless they're less reliant on warchanters.
I bet the good armies next edition will be ones that can get by on like 2 heroes.
Its legitimately gonna suck when 60% of the meta at any event is 3 drops by necessity and most of your t1 priority is decided by dice roll.

But we don't know what the Regiments look like for each hero yet.
Maybe the Snatachaboss on Sludgeraker will allow Swampcalla Shaman in the regiment.
It's way too early to draw any sort of conclusion as to what this change might mean for certain armies.

  11. I dislike the double turn mechanic but I can respect if other people like it. However, for the sake of discussion, here’s why I have issues with it.

    1. I feel that it makes lower point games unplayable. I understand that lower point games will never be fully balanced, and I’m fine with that. But losing or winning 90% of the time due to one dice roll is simply a terrible design.

    2. It is very punishing for new players. In my experience the DT is the number one complaint from new players, and from people who tried AoS but quit.

    3. I think it messes with the verisimilitude and immersion of the game. In a real battle both armies would of course act simultaneously, but this is hard to mimic in a tabletop game. But alternating turns does a better job, in my opinion. Having one army just allowing the other one to do twice as much in the same time just feels off to me.

One argument for DT that I see is very interesting. Its that competive and frequent players generally like the DT when asked. But to me that is obvious, why else would they play it so much? The people who dislike the rule have most likely moved on to other games, so of course they would be a minority at tournaments etc.

The interesting question is then, which players should GW cater to? Should they try and make the current most active players enjoy the game more, or should they try and make the game more attractive to players that don’t currently play AoS (or play a little)?

I think removing the DT would attract more players to AoS. But maybe that’s not only a good thing.

Or that all weapons choices have been rolled into one across warscrolls?

    This is very interesting!

What about different warscrolls that are basically the same but with different weapons? Like liberators/vindictors.

I don't have anything profound to say, but I do love me some Dark Elves.

Actually, here's a question: had anyone considered buying Krethusa and using her as a Sorceress on Dark Pegasus? Do people think she would fit aesthetically, or is she too weird?

I’m thinking of doing exactly this!

  14. My army from WHFB days was Dark Elves.
I like them for many reasons: I'm a big fan of Elves in most fantasy settings. I'm a fan of the more evil factions. I like intelligent and clever factions. I'm a huge fan of the asthetics, especially the art from the 6th ed rulebook grabbed me. I like big blocks of infantry and an organised mixed arms military force.

For AoS I don't feel like there's a good Dark Elves alternative at the moment.
DoK are just the witch elf stuff that I wasn't a huge fan of. The rest of the Dark Elves range is stuck in CoS, and that doesn't feel right to me.
Eventually I started collecting Kruleboyz because I like the asthetic and the playstyle appealed to me.
But they don't feel 100% right, even though they do tick some of my boxes (Evil, clever, mixed arms).

    Index feelings...

In my personal opinion, I hope we get an index.
Increases the likelihood of USR, and other big changes that I would like to see.

  16. I'm gonna refresh my Dark Elves for tOW.
I have a whole bunch of "new" plastic models, Spearmen, Crossbows, Black Guard, Cold One Knight, Black dragon, Sorc, that are mostly painted but would need baseconverters or rebasing.

Then I have a solid amount of old metal models: Corsairs, Executioneers, Shades, Bolt Throwers, Dreadlord, Assassin.
These would need to be stripped and repainted because they were painted when I was young and the quality is quite poor.

I'm also looking at adding a few models, like: Cold One Chariot, Dark Riders.

Have some other projects that I'm working on that I would like to finish first (Terrain, Necrons, Gobsprakk), but soon the Dark Elves project will start!

That will then be my main and only army for tOW.
But a future High Elves release might change things, hehe.

You can do this one specific thing with the Battlemage and it's only because of the multiple models attached to this warscroll, all of them transferred from WHFB.

The regular AoS situation (at least for small heroes) is that you only have a single, non-customizable model and the corresponding warscroll with extremely limited customisation options. Even if you believe that the result is lower barrier to entry (I don't think that's the case), this also means that you lose the potential to field two similar heroes, unless you customize the model by yourself (and that is an actual entry barrier). How am I supposed to field two Endrinmasters if there is only one model available? Does GW really expect me to buy copies of same hero model?

How is then AoS supposed to keep refining its focus by committing to lowering barriers to entry further? Remove any unit customization altogether? You are of course right about the importance of fun during downtime element, as most of the hobby time is spent either on models (building, painting), fluff, list-building or activities such as TGA discussions - and AoS is no different from WHFB in this regard.

    (Apologies for going off-topic)
Maybe it's just me, but the way you format your text makes it almost impossible to read.
