I had a successful game yesterday. NB: it was a casual game with my buddy. He brought ogre gutbusters without beastclaw raiders and no monsters; I think this matchup is in Nurgle's favor. It was the first game for either of us in 3rd edition. I brought an all-demon list with multiple GUO's and a focus on summoning. This list can handily summon a 3rd GUO on battle round 3:

    Allegiance: Maggotkin of Nurgle
    - Subfaction: Befouling Host
    - Grand Strategy: Prized Sorcery

    LEADERS

    Great Unclean One (495)*
    - General
    - Command Trait: Infernal Conduit
    - Bile Blade & Doomsday Bell
    - Artefact: Tome of a Thousand Poxes
    - Lore of Virulence: Fleshy Abundance
    Rotigus (495)
    - Lore of Virulence: Stream of Corruption
    Horticulous Slimux (225)
Sloppity Bilepiper, Herald of Nurgle (130)

    UNITS

    20 x Plaguebearers (300)*
    1 x Beasts of Nurgle (110)*
    1 x Beasts of Nurgle (110)*
    3 x Nurglings (105)*

    *Battle Regiment

    TOTAL: 1970/2000             WOUNDS: 121
    LEADERS: 4/6                   BATTLELINES: 3 (3+)      BEHEMOTHS: 2/4            ARTILLERY: 0/4
    ARTEFACTS: 1/1               ENDLESS SPELLS & INVOCATIONS: 0/3               ALLIES: 0/400
    REINFORCED UNITS: 1/4            DROPS: 3

The idea here is that you start with two trees on the board and Slimux gets to drop a third tree immediately at the start of the first turn. First turn gets about 9 contagion points (nurgle in own territory with no enemies = 4, three trees = 3, Bell = probably 1, Infernal Conduit = probably 1). If you can get a unit touching your opponents territory, then you can assume ~11 contagion points in battle rounds 2 and 3 each (I am assuming that the enemy will be in Nurgle territory at this point). Obviously this is dependent on a couple dice rolls, how canny your opponent is and how alpha-strikey their army is. Most people are happy to give the old slow Nurgle boys turn 1, which is fine with me; gives me time to get my tree down and my nurglings deep-struck.

I deployed my reinforced Plaguebearers with my GUO and Sloppity Bilepiper as a big chunky force while the Beasts flanked up one-side with Slimux. Rotigus can act on his own and reinforce where needed. Obviously the Nurglings are hopefully going to get into the opponents territory turn 1...but keep your expectations low. The GUO is going to attempt to cast three spells per turn: Fleshy Abundance on the PBs, Mystic Shield on himself (it's important to keep him alive in this build) or the PBs, and Gift of Disease with +1 to cast. Rotigus will cast Deluge of Nurgle and Stream of Corruption (ideally he is wading into combat).

The list worked well in my game; all the pieces performed as expected. Rotigus over-performed and got work done. The beasts and Slimux synergized well together (Ferocious Advance is a good Battle Tactic choice for these three). The Run/Retreat + Charge tactic was fun to play and these guys were able to bounce around in the backfield flank. The nurglings got into the opponents territory and distracted/tied-up his leadbelchers handily until round 3. The Plaguebearers are meaty with fleshy abundance and were able to tie-up a double-reinforced unit of ironguts and keep them from overrunning my objectives with the help of Sloppity's don't-pile-in-closer song. I was a little careless and the ironguts and tyrant were able to take out my GUO on turn 2 with a couple big charges and a bunch of buffs. Even though I lost him, I still managed to reach 32 contagion points on round 3 and summoned a GUO with sword/flail and nailed a 9-inch charge to 1-v-1 his tyrant. We called it in my favor after round 3. It was 15-12 and I had started to burn the objectives in his territory. Neither of us had widespread board control, but I had better position on the remaining objectives and monsters that could score battle tactics.

    TL;DR

IMO multiple GUOs are a valid option.

It looks a nice summoning list!  However, you need to change the command trait of the GUO. It is for mortals only.

Played this list against a Seraphon monster list and got shot to pieces. The 2 of the 20x Plaguebeares did nothing but die and the one fully buffed 20 unit. I could only get 6-7 in melee due to unit coherency. They managed to take out one of the monsters but the list had 5 more. They then died as well. Any suggestions? Change up my battalions I think I hunters in the heartland isn't worth it in the long run. I'd honestly rather just play Blightkings if I am going to get wiped out at least I'll roll lots of dice to make it happen. I will save the global reduction to rend was nice. One Last gift didn't do any damage(he didn't roll 1's).

Just realized this isn't a legal list. I can't have 2 Hunters of the Heartlands per page 13 of the GHB.

May be remove the lord of afflictions give the whiterstave to the GUO and remove to pusgoyle frome the 4 model until for Glottkin or rotigus. This will make PB stronger as the -1 to hit + the repeat 6s to hit is a very good combo. It also helps to get more 1s for the one last gift ability

I read an explanation where someone stated that the munificient wanderers ability is applied at the end of this fight after all attacks are done etc... And therefore is would not "apply" at the same time...

Overall I agree that we need a clear faq for that one. Even if I think the intention was that there only can be 1 positive effect at the same time, so no add. Hit and add. MW e.g.

They just didn't think about the defensive 6er triggers...

Yes, but the trigger is the 6s to hit. So sadly it does not apply. I agree they didn't think about defensive 6s. They should have said a player cannot apply two or more abilities on a dice roll.

The problem is I need a tanky Warlord. Because if he dies it might be a problem. That’s why I want more bodies with the next points.
I want to go a mix at 2000P with some mortals and some demons, cause it should be fluffy and not maxed out.😅👍

Well then you don't have to look for more. The GUO is the definition of tanky :)

    Hey Guys,

we start a PTG Campaign in 2 weeks and I wanted to share my list and thoughts. We start with 600P and need to get another 100p after every third battle. So the next size is a 700P battle and so on.

    Allegiance: Nurgle
    - Host of Chaos: Munificent Wanderers
    - Grand Strategy: None Chosen
    - Triumphs:

    Leaders
Great Unclean One (350) in Warlord
    - Bile Blade & Doomsday Bell
    - Artefact: Mucktalon
    - Lore of Virulence: Favoured Poxes
Sloppity Bilepiper Herald of Nurgle(130) in Warlord
    - Artefact: The Endless Gift

    Battleline
    10 x Plaguebearers (110) in Warlord

    Total: 590 / 750
    Reinforced Units: 0 / 1
    Allies: 0 / 100
    Wounds: 31

I want to start with this list. I think it’s a pretty solid start and I can improve with another 10 PG with the first new points. But what to do next? A Spoilpox would be nice, after that I would like to go for 3 plague drones.
But I don’t know what to do next?

Could you please help me because I want to win our campaign!

One thing, the endless gift is on the sloppity or the GUO? it should go to the GUO to make it super tanky. Another thing is that you don't have anything that can kill or the bodies to control points. I would may be go with more plague bearers, sloppity and scrivener, but at the end it depends more on what you want to play.

  6. 13 hours ago, Jamezorz said:

6 x Plague drones have to deal with coherency rules. So it might not be the best to take. Haven't tried myself yet, just an observation.

I don't know either, but either the oponent focus on them or 4 /5 plague drones fully buffed with +3 or +4 attacks could be quite devastating.

Also why not Munificent Wanderers in the second list and what about Hold the Line for Grand Strategy?

I was having doubts about the subfaction too. It may be more interesting to use munificent wanderers + endless gift. It needs some testing.

About the grand strategy I just include the first I read. Don't look much into it. It is better dominating presence or master of beasts.

The way I have played this is the following: My unit has 20+ at the beginning of the combat phase and an enemy unit attacks it, the wounds are counted at the end of the enemy unit's attack. If this brings the PB unit lower than 20, lets say 16, then the -1 to hit is gone. So, if another enemy unit is activated against the same PB unit, with 16 models, in the same combat phase, then the -1 hit is gone.

If this is not the case then I am doing it wrong.

Thank you very much. I am playing it the same way, but I wanted to make sure.

I'm currently looking at similar lists, so I'll ask a few questions and provide some feedback later.  I'd like to hear your answers before I influence them with my thoughts.

    - Do you see having 1 drop being significantly better than 2 or 3 drops?  Fitting everything within a Tallyband really constrains the units you can use.

    - You've setup the Tallyband to get the +1 bonus to contagion points.  Do you see the extra contagion points mattering over the coarse of a game?

    - What role do the Nurglings play?

    - Do you have a plan for using your summoning points?

    - Why no Scriviner?

I have never played this list. I am planning on using it this weekend with some friends.

    My answers:

    1. I like having 1 drop to start conditioning from the beginning of the battle. In addition it gives more healing to very resilient units.

2 & 5. I want to be sure I can summon the scrivener in turn 2. I don't want to have both sloppity and scrivener sniped. In addition, with those many plaguebearers I hope to get more board control.

    3. The role of nurglings is to bother from behind/get some additional contagion points.

    4. It will depend on how the game goes or the opponent. Maybe more punch or may be more pleaguebearer bothering the opponent.

  11. What do you think about this list? What will you change? 1 drop army tallyband.

    Howdy Nurglings,

Starting an escalation league that will go through the summer. It will start at 1,000 moving to 1,250, 1500, then 2,000. Looking to do Thricefold at 2k but I am a bit stumped on a 1k list. The new warscrolls has me a bit confused.

I can support a full mortal or demon list. I don't have any StD units except for Be'lakor. I also have 40 plague monks. I am sure this has been asked a million times but would love to get suggestions for a competitive 1k and how you would build it as the escalation goes by. I can supply battle reports as I go.

I played a blessed sons subfaction with harbinger of decay and 2 units of 10 blightkings and 2 units of 5 blightkings. It was super tanky for a 1000 points.
